like all diamond series guits- korea - excellent handwork for less money- bang for the buck factor is great - I've never cared where my guitar comes from - or which name it sports - only tone counts- this guitar has been dubbed by tone-enginiers in my area as "rated -R" for violence - just plain wicked - hardware - wood etc all fine - pickups can but dont have to be switched out- check the schechter page for technical details. its easier
rating is 9

Sound : 9
used for heavy "stuff" to straight blues
it does its job fine
rating is 8.75 :-)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
factory settings are a lie - I have worked in wholesale and retail long enough and there has never been a fender, gibson, ibanez etc. that we did not need to adjust upon arival -
only prs,usa schechter and a small and select few others were "perfect" upon arival
this guitar was easy to adjust and still is.

Reliability/Durability : 9
have had it on the road and in studio for 2 years - its in fine shape and I am sadistic to it -
nuff said

Customer Support : 7
schechter is helpful enough, even international, has social endorsing policies and is ok

Overall Rating : 10
I have played guitar for around 17 years, been a session and studio player for years and worked in retail and wholesale for many years as well - this is a kick ass instrument for little money - you can get better - but not anywhere near the price/quality ratio this instrument offers. breat bang for the buck. not a guitar for vintage fanatics or wannabe usa guitar purists - just a solid good guitar for modern music and experimentally open players

The Scorpion (not Scorpian, morons..) was developed in the ESP/Schecter factory in Korea. I generally stay far away from all non-USA guitars but they do a pretty decent job. Anyways, here are the features:

-24 frets, 26.75 scale (not quite baritone), dark rosewood board
-its tuned BEADF#B, with .013-.062 gauge strings, plays perfect
-two volumes, one tone, 3-way pu selector
-stock pickups were duncan designed shit (put in DiMarzio SD in bridge)
-the body is mahogany and the neck is maple
-"dual graphite reinforcement rods to give increased sustain and stability"
-the finish is kind of like a dark silver/olive-ish satin finish
-basically a deformed 'SG' shape
-no gay floyd here, strings thru body
-very good tuners, never goes out of tune (grover i think)

Basically this is a semi-baritone gibson like guitar. I was skeptical about the practicality of the longer scale but now I find myself wanting more 'baritone' guitars. Basically it plays phenominally, it feels just like you were playing a normal scaled guitar tuned standard but its tuned way down. The action and intonation is flawless. String bends and pinch harmonics even on the low .062 B string is easy. Very impressed here. The wood tone seems to be nice also, no need for crappy active pickups here.

My musical 'style' is pretty varied, but I'd say this guitar would fit in just about any application. That said, presently I am mainly using this for recording my metal (real metal, not nu-trash) band's album.

I am using this mainly with an all-tube Peavey Ultra Plus, which is a 120w watt 3-channel head. It's a lot like a 5150 but a lot more versatile, more features and a better clean channel. I also use a Laney GH50 head and a Line 6 Pod Pro. I run these through a Mesa/Boogie 4x12 cabinet. I don't use any effects currently (I add fx on the computer).

The best way I can describe the sound I get with this guitar through my amps is...huge. It is warm, full and heavy...yet also very cutting. No mud here. Pure definition. I am in love with the tone. It sounded okay with the Duncan Designs, nothing great as to be expected with cheap korean pickups. You could tell it would sound good with real pickups, and that it did. With the DiMarzio Super Distortion it sounds absolutely amazing. Everything from blistering 64th notes to power chords to palm-muted stuff comes out defined and sounding massive.

Minus one for having gay stock pickups, but for the price its to be expected.

The way the guitar was made certainly contributes to the enjoyability of this instrument. I occasionally tune down 1/2 step (Bb Eb Ab...) or to drop A and its always perfect.

As for things like pickup height adjustments, thats easy and should be up to you. Most people have them too low and hence it sounds poor, but if you raise those up to the proper level it will sound thick and sweet.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Everything seems solid hear. Obviously I'd recommend straplocks. I would not use it without a backup, but I wouldn't use any guitar without a backup.

I haven't dealt with Schecter but I hear good things.

I've been playing for about 6 years now. I've owned dozens of high-end USA guitars (Rich, Gibson, Washburn, Jackson, ESP, etc). I loathe imported guitars but I've been impressed with Schecter. I used to own a Schecter A7 Elite and that was nice as well. Currently though I own a USA Custom BC Rich 'Wave' 7-string (neck-thru, ebony board, dimarzios), a USA Washburn Sonic 7-string (bolt-on, figured maple fretboard, usa duncans) and a USA Washburn PT3 6-String (set-neck, mahogany, ebony board, emg85/sd '59, off-set v shape).

Overall I think this guitar is a tremendous value. This sounds right up there with my USA customs with the pickup change. I love pretty much everything about it besides the color and the nut (i think its plastic). I'd like to buy another one of these sometime, I really fell in love with this one.

24 fret, B to B tuning, flat black, import Tiawan, Korea?

Sound : No Opinion
i'm using it through a Line 6 POD, to an Ampeg B-1 bass amp and through a computer. there is a bit of fret buzz though with a set up I've got no doubt it'll be ok.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
after about a month and a half of playing it HARD i have a crack in the paint at the neck/ body, it doesn't take to well trying to pull a Randy Rhoads Crazy Train. The pickups that were in it when bought on ebay are a seymour duncan in the bridge and a gibson in the neck giving it a very nice balance and growl . definately swap out the pickups, you will be better off.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
unknown as far as durability as stated b4. the hardware seems to be top notch.

overall am pleased though will be reviewing after dealing with the company about the neck issue.

2002, korea, 24 frets, you know the deal

I thought the sound was great. It is very razory, like in the previous review. But I don't know what he's talking about with the artificial harmonics. I have an ESP EC-100 and have a hell of a time trying to get them in that (although the EMG 81 im having put in should help) but with the Schecter, I found them to be too easy. Try playing Crazy Babies.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
low finish and no fret buzz. im not huge on the down tuning, but this guitar made it sound considerably less muddy.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Im sure its reliable but I wouldnt thrash it around too much. it is very thin.

This review is for the 2002 Schecter Scorpion Tribal. It's Korean made, 24 frets with a LP junior style setup like the previous Scorpions (2 Volume, 1 Tone, 3-way selector). This guitar comes with passive Duncan Designed pickups. They look like EMG wannabes and are very muddy on the low end even through a M/B Single Rectifier. I'm having an SD Invader installed as I type.

The guitar has a nice thin mahogany body, a little thinner than I'd like, but it feels very nice. It came to me tuned B-E-A-D-F#-B. The finish is a very nice gloss black with body, neck, and headstock binding that looks very sharp. I especially like the devlish looking headstock with scorpion on the back. This guitar looks very smooth and very mean.

The bridge is a fixed string-thru body style and the tuners are real Grovers. It features a set maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and 26.25" scale for accurate intonation for lower tunings and fat jumbo frets. The neck is a bit thin but it still feels very nice. The fretboard is relativily flat, just like the S-1. It has a distinctive feel that is very smooth. The neck has a downright wicked set of tribal inlays flowing up the fretboard!! It looks sooooo cool!! I'll get to the sound later, but feature-wise this guitar is pretty stacked.

I play metal. All kinds from hardcore to power groove to nu-metal (or whatever label they've slapped on it this week). As such, I needed a guitar that I could tune low and get a crystal clear sound as well as raging percussive distortion. This guitar does both very well. As a previous reviewer said, the sound is 'razory.' That holds true for this model as well. We'll see how it sounds with the Invader in the bridge.

I am running this guitar into a Tuner Pedal to a Line6 MM4 (for clean sounds) into a Mesa/Boogie Single Rec. head powering a Peavey 4x12 (Sheffield). The guitar is just as quiet as both my LTD EC-100 and Ibanez S-470. I generally run my dirty sounds through the bridge pickup and clean sounds with both pickups going. I wasn't too thrilled with the 'razory' sound. I had to re-tweak my tried and true settings to get more low end. The Duncan Design pickups just didn't seem to pack enough punch. My DD HB-102 pickups in my EC-100 provide a ton of gain and output for a lower-end pickup, but the EMG-like pickups in the Scorpion just don't sound that great. It was hard to get the Zakk Wylde style artificial harmonics raging on this axe, even with the gain cranked. As I said before, I'm putting an Invader in the bridge position right now and we'll see how it goes then.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The setup from the factory on this guitar was great. It played smooth right out of the box and felt so nice. As I said before, the pickups aren't that great, so I wasn't too thrilled with those at all. I can't find any flaws on the setup. Everything feels nice and solid. The body is kind of thin so it feels like a sports car kind of guitar as opposed to the tanklike feel of my ESP Eclipse. The pickup selector produces a very slight noise when switching, but with all the gain I usually have going, that's to be expected. The tuning pegs are so much nicer than any I've had before. I especially like the feel of the neck. It is very smooth and playable.

Reliability/Durability : 10
As I stated before, this guitar feels thin. I'm a pretty big fella, so we'll see how it flies. It feels very solid though so I would feel confident gigging without a backup. The hardware is super-solid. Everything looks and feels very sharp from the pots, to the tuners, to the bridge. The finish and the neck inlays are beautiful. They look like they will perservere even through my beatings. To stick with the car analogy from above, it's more like a camaro than a tank, but it feels so nice and looks too sharp.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I sent them an email expressing my interest in this guitar and never heard from them. That didn't bode too well, but we'll see if I actually NEED to talk to them later on.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for 17 years and have tried a ton of guitars with all kinds of setups. I've played Strats, Teles, Les Pauls, Ibanez, Arias, Deans, you name it I've tried it. This guitar is everything it was advertised to be. For under $1000 I couldn't have asked for more (except for some hotter pickups).

If someone stole this guitar I would beat them severely, and if I lost this guitar I would beat myself severely and go buy another one. I absolutely love the B to B tuning and the feel of the neck. The evil look and playability of this guitar rank it as the coolest guitar I've ever owned. The only thing I'm not too happy with are the pickups, but that's easily remedied. I compared this guitar to the ESP LTD VB-300 and the Danelectro Baritone guitar and I think I made the right decision. This guitar just feels classier then the comparable ESP's and the Danelectros just look stupid. The ESP comes with the EMG HZ's which don't sound that hot either. That was another deciding factor which turned out to be a moot point because the pseudo-EMG looking Duncan Designs don't sound too good anyway.

All in all, this guitar is AWESOME. It plays great and looks SOOOO sharp. I recommend this guitar to anyone who wants a downtuned baritone guitar. For the price you cannot beat this guitar. At $530, you can toss some primo pickups in it for a couple hundred bucks and it would still be a bargain.

24 frets, b to b tuning, duncan designed pickups. your basic LP junior type layout. thin feeling neck. black satin finish. its a basic guitar, no bells and whistles, no GPS, no cell phone holder. just the ability to ROCK. heavily. longer scale neck for accurate intonation for detuned strings. it fits into a standard les paul shaped SKB case (bonus!)

Sound : 9
awesome. right outta the box this is the guitar i've been dreaming about for the last 10 years. its set up for B right from the factory, and its thin like a perfect gibson SG. the neck is thin but not too thin, and the guitar is so light it doesnt feel like you even have the thing strapped on. the pickups are nice and quiet. much better than any of the second run models of pickups from other manufacturers. chuncks great through the right amp, i used my vanous and some tweakage. its a thin and razory kind of sound, you have to get the bottom end from the amp. but man does it cut through a mix.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
again (see my M-33 review) they didnt skimp where they could have, and that make high marks for me. real grover tuners, nice pots, good solid feeling and sounding electronics. the neck binding is very nice, the woodwork it very well done, the only weird thing is the fret crowning looks uneven. its perfectly flat, but it looks "off"... playing it you would never even notice it. the paint on it was perfect.

Reliability/Durability : 9
i intend to play this guitar till i wear through the fretboard. i wish it was a bit bigger (i'm a big guy it looks a little small on me) but this is great for long sessions coz it wont tear your shoulder to bits from the weight. im an SG player from long back and this guitar lays in my hand just perfecctly. all the bits and pieces feel very solid. i didnt see any pot metal on it, and even the jackplate is metal not plastic. i worry about the softness of the frets, though. i was able to scratch them with some pretty beefy vibrato.

Customer Support : 9
a little hard to get on the phone, but very courteous.

Overall Rating : 10
i'd totally buy another one. very nice to see a guitar that fits those that want the detuned guitar sounds but dont want the gimp factor of a 7 string. i'm very sold on the design of this guitar, and i'd defintely buy more if it got stolen. i dont like the soft frets, but for the price i paid and the rest of the quality, (dont have to upgrade the tuners, pickups, bridge, etc etc being that its a budget guitar) i'll definitely get it refretted with harder frets. big thumbs up!
