No fancy features, just a solid acoustic guitar. Good bright finish.

My neighbor has a great sounding Tacoma. I was very impressed with its rich and balanced sound. Last week, I bought a used Sigma Martin DM2. I must say that my Martin sounds better than my neighbor's Tacoma. Even he was surprised how great a sound my Sigma Martin produced. Now, I have owned a few guitars over the years. I attest this is the best sounding guitar I have owned.
Before I bought my DM2, I went to music stores, (even pawn shops) looking for a guitar that I would really appreciate. I did not find anything that suited my taste, for the price that I would pay. I pat myself on the back for not rushing to buy.
Luckily, I found this DM2. The moment I heard how it sounded, I knew that it was the guitar I was looking for. I am very happy with it. Now, I do not know if all DM2's are like the one I have. But I can say that mine can compete easily with guitars selling for $900.00 or more.

I have small hands, and the action is just right for me. I did not have to adjust anything. Very easy and comfortable to play, whether strumming, picking or plucking.

I have only owned it for a week. But the person whom I bought ir from told me that he had owned it for over ten years. Based on that, I think this guitar will last for a long long time (with proper care of course.)

To me, good guitars must produce rich, balanced, and dynamic sound. If a guitar cannot produce a good sound, all features does not mean a thing. I am proud to say that my DM2 has what it takes.

The sound is full, rich and throaty. Perfect for sitting around a fire or in a bar and singing your heart out. Medium strings and even a powerful voice wont over power the sound of the guitar.

The action was quite high when I first bought this guitar, but I paid $100 to a guy to set it up and it has played wonderfully since then. Other than the high action, the guitar is flawless.I

I bought this guitar almost 20 years ago when I was in college. I played in bands, took it camping, brought it to other countries, etc. I never really worried about it in the first years that I owned it because I only paid $130 for it and I figured it was expendable. 20 years later, this guitar still looks awesome and plays just as beautifully as it did when I bought it.
My son who is 12 now plays it whenever he gets the chance and loves it as well.

I bought this guitar in 1988 or 89, and had the action lowered within the first week. It was the first guitar I ever owned and I learned to play on it. As I said before, I abused the hell out of it when I was younger. I have gone through periods of time of up to a year or so of not touching this guitar, and pulled it out of the case and it is still in almost perfect tune.
I never imagined when I bought this guitar that I would be teaching my kids to play on it, but here I am. Words can't express how I would feel if something were to happen to this guitar.
I have owned numerous other guitars since, bought and sold them, given them away. This is the one guitar I will not part with. Unless I give it to my son.

Will this guitar withstand live playing? Yup, Toured with it..
Does the hardware seem like it will last? It Has Yrs now, just Put an extra nut on the lead input for added strength
Is the finish good enough to last, or does it seem thin and easy to wear off ,, with lots of playing? Solid finish, even when the Neck Broke, Glued it put a Screw in that to Hold, then did a Gig that night..
Are the strap buttons solid? yup
Can you depend on it?Would you use it on a gig without a backup? Shit Yes,,i Have a Fender Strat for a Backup, lol,,

I don't know exactly what year my DM2 was made. The serial number is in the 25,000's. I have seen them on eBay up into the 80,000's. Can't be too old since they were established in 1970. I am fairly new (learning) with the guitar so there is much I don't know. I first bought a new Oscar Schmidt (low end) but the action was too high and I had problems fretting it. Friend told me he had a Martin for $200 so I told him I would take it. Turned out to be a Sigma but it played so easily and sounded so good I bought it. It's in mint condition with case.
Sound
:

Since it hadn't been played for over ten years the strings were a little tinny. Even so the sound was better than my new (in the $200 range) low end guitar. Put on new strings and it sounds as good as my friends Gibson. That's according to him and he is an accomplished guitar player. Looks good, sounds good, easy to play, what more could you want in this price range.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

Since I bought the guitar used, I don't know how it came from the factory. The action is so perfect I would have to suspect it has been reset since new. If not Sigma did a great job setting it up. The keys look a little cheap, but it holds tune well and I see others with more knowledge like them. Great finish, no blemishes.

I don't know the history of my DM2 but is well over ten years old and doesn't have a scratch on it. I know one of the owner's played in a country band. He hocked it to my friend for Christmas money and never retrived it. I will never use it hard so I would expect the finish and hardware to outlast me. I do wish it had both strap buttons on the body.

I have only been playing a few months. I have a new Oscar Schmidt and a classical guitar. The Sigma is the only one I would replace. I am currently looking for one with a low serial number in good condition. Before buying my DM2 I tried several guitars in the $150 to $400 price range. I found the Sigma by accident and fell in love with it. I honestly wouldn't take $1.000 for it. I wouldn't pay that for another one but I sure wouldn't sell mine for less.

I'm not sure what year this guitar was made. It was made in Korea, which turns some people off but I don't see why as this guitar plays great. It's a laminated top w/ no electronics. I believe the top is Maple, but not completely sure. Grover tuners are awesome for a guitar in this price range. The neck is medium to thin with standard 14 frets clear. It has a nice white trim on the top with a two piece back and black binding. Overall a pretty nice looking guitar. For the price this guitar is well endowed.
Sound
:

I play everything from picking to extremely heavy strumming, and this guitar handles everything pretty well, although I would say it is better suited to the strummer. It has a very heavy sound and that's why I can't give it great props on the finger picking. So, in essence, the guitar is dominantly bass and less treble. I had a bone saddle installed and this made a HUGE diffrence, really brightened and sharpened it up, and I have had trouble purchasing a new guitar now because I am really having difficulty finding one that I believe sounds better than this for what I'm willing to pay (under 700.00).
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
9
The body is a standard Dreadnought. Action was a little high when I received the guitar, but I have no idea what was done to it before I got it, and as I mentioned above I don't know how old it is. I have since had the bone saddle put in and the action lowered and it's great. I don't know what the finish is, but it's nice and durable. Like I was saying above, really nicely appointed for the price range.

Dave Matthews is my favorite guitar player/songwriter, and I model most of my strumming after him, which is hard and steady. This guitar takes it and then some. I had to have the frets refinished because they were getting divots, and I don't believe they were very worn when I first got the guitar. The Grover tuners will last and last. Personally, I prefer a strap setup where the strap ends both connect to the body of the guitar and not on the end pin and the head. As for durability this guitar can really take it! I have knocked this thing around, it's been dropped, kicked, and run over by dogs without so much as a scratch. Super dependable.

I've been playing for almost 2 years. I own another Sigma, a TB-1N Acoustic Electric cutaway w/ Sigma electronics. Accessories include a Crate GX 100 Amp and Tascam MFP01 portastudio. When I do get a new guitar I will definitely keep this one to play regularly because of it's sound and durability. I know I can pull it out in a crowd of people at a party or bar, travel with it, and jam on it and it will take it. I'm looking to get a nicer guitar soon, but this guitar will always be my workhorse.

This is a 'made in Korea' cutaway acoustic dreadnought guitar in natural finish . It sounds very similar to the Sigma DM2's also reviewed and I guess the 'C' in 'CN' stands for cutaway . I have no idea what the 'N' means . It has a laminated top in lighter wood than the back and sides . The tortoiseshell pickguard is a nice touch and the matt finish headstock carries chrome Grover machine heads and the Sigma logo in pearl . It is a fairly basic but very pretty looking guitar .

This guitar sounds really nice but I haven't played many other acoustics to compare it to . It is quite loud and bright sounding (especially with new strings) but also sounds quite warm . I enjoy playing blues and country/folk/rock like Neil Young , JJ Cale etc. and this guitar sounds great (considering the price) . I would love to play a solid top Sigma for comparison though .
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

I bought the guitar second hand but it had hardly been played and was in perfect condition . The Grovers stay in tune well , the neck is comfortable and the binding well finished , and the finish on the body is excellent . My only gripe would be that the action on this guitar is a little high (seems to be a common issue going by other Sigma reviews) but it's perfectly playable .
Reliability/Durability
:

As I mentioned , I bought second hand but believe the guitar is now approx 6 or 7 years old and it is still in perfect condition . I don't gig it but if I did I would have no hesitation in using this without a backup . The only minor complaint it that the plastic strap button at the base of the guitar used to come loose and fall out . I've now fitted a tranducer . The chrome socket doubles up as a strap button and looks nicer than the old plastic button to boot .

I've never dealt with Sigma/Martin but I find it really frustrating that information on these guitars is so hard to find , Martin don't even seem to acknowledge their existence !! I'm sure Martin could shift huuuuge numbers of these brilliant guitars if only they were advertised and available to more shops eg.There are 6 different (good) shops near me and not one stocks Sigma , despite stocking loads of Martins ??!!
A word in CF Martin's ear ....your Sigma guitars are nothing to be ashamed of , honest .

Originally I was looking to buy a Yamaha APX or Jasmine (Takamine) electro acoustic but saw this guitar advertised and thought that #135 for a "Martin" guitar was too good an offer to pass up . I was right . If I had to replace it and I had a limited budget , I would definately buy another , but that's if I could find another !!

Don't know what year it was made. My mom actually gave it to my dad as a gift a few years ago, but he never really got into guitar. I picked it up about 2 years ago and started learning the basics. It was made in Korea. This is completely acoustic, not acoustic/electric.
I give it a nine because it has all that an acoustic needs to have. Um, a bridge, body, pickguard, fretboard.... you get the picture. Nothing fancy, just basic.

This was my first guitar. I play everything, from Barenaked Ladies to Jimmy Buffett (I also play swing/rockabilly, but an acoustic isn't really fit for these types of music).
It sounds pretty decent. I mean, for a beginning-intermediate guitar player, this would probably work really well.

I've been playing for 2.5 - 3 years, I own a squire bass, a no-name electric, and I'm about to purchase an Epiphone Wildkat and Peavey Classic 30 amp. I'm a teenager who is low on cash, and the Epi 'Kat and Peavey CL30 will deplete my money supply. If it were lost/stolen, I would definelty want another acoustic. I don't know if this would be it, though. I'd probably get an electic/acoustic. Overall, I think this a good, little rugged guitar and I'd recomend it.

Sigma is a subsidiary of Martin Guitars started in 1970. They're best known for their premium sound at a reasonable price. Don't let the fact that it's made in Korea fool you. It's all Martin sound. Depending on the guitar, maybe better. Features are nice and simple but ample. Best of all, it looks good.

I received my Sigma DM-2 as a birthday present. It's the guitar I learned on and the only guitar I own. I've now had it for seven years and it has served me very well. It's just as comfortable on the stage of The House of Blues as it is at home on the couch. The sound is rich and soulfull and probably more full than 90% of the guitars I've played. I'm pretty sure my next guitar purchase will be another Sigma.

Tough doesn't begin to describe this guitar. I've seen in knocked over by a drunk woman, hit four bar stools on the way down and survive without a scratch. It's taken a beating from everyday knocking about to even being Fed Ex-ed from Michigan to Florida. The only mark on it is from the time I dropped a pair of needle-nosed pliers on it from about two feet. Whoops. It's just has a little mark.

I've seen others say that Sigma guitars are great for those just starting out on the guitar. I agree. It's a great guitar to learn on, but don't limit yourself. If you've played for years and you're thinking of getting a new guitar, do yourself and favor and look into Sigma. You actually may save yourself a few hundred dollars.
