I just had to submit a review when I saw the mix bag of reviews on the DR7. Mine is an older one with out he ajustable bridge. Construction is impecable. Solid woods throughout. Very stout.

It's a 10!! My high end Martin's and Some Gibson's are jealous. Clear, clean, crisp, deep bass, loud mid, mellow highs. Strummer deluxe, not my first choice for finger picking but accecptable.

Action is good, could be tweeked but why it's a 30 year old Sigma. Some imperfections in the grain on the top but nothing really obvious. For the money if you find something better "BUY IT"! If we're talking value(sound and craftmanship) and bang for the buck, don't waste money on a low end big name guitar if you can find one of the older Models of this guitar. From what is sounds like from some of the whiners, the guitar got cheapend to cut costs some where along the line (paper lables?).

It's made it just fine this far, I'm not scared of it.

I doubt it's ever needed any attention since the initial Nazareth set up.

Been Playing a Long Time, I got 57 guitars of various makes and models from all over the place. This one stays out and gets played regularly because of the over all qualities and I don't fret as much if a critter knocks it over or friends handle it roughly and play it hard. I know this ax will out last me at the rate it's going, unless the house burns down. Look for the older DR-7 after the ajustable bridges and before the paper tags, Keep on stumming!

If taken care of,it seems like a very good guitar for the money,I have seen higher priced guitars that were not as well made as this one.But like all good guitars, you have got to take care of them

I have been playing since 1968,I should of had her take guitar to repair shop for a check up.I have just bought another DR-7 from a lady in Chicago, she took it to a repair shop and had it checked out "OK" this one cost me $315.00 1970-71 I will let you know how it is.Always ask to have a guitar checked out before you buy on Ebay.Make sure they will refund your Money. There are alot of dishonest sellers out there, saying they have got to sell Grandpas ol guitar to save the farm ASK LOTS of ??'s action hieght ect, Good luck these are good guitars

This is a basic dreadnaught acoustic made in Japan for the CF Martin Co.It was their way of competing with all the cheap Martin copies coming out of Japan....so they made their own! Good thing is all Sigmas back then were checked and set up at Nazareth before being shipped to dealers all over the country.Mine is a 1973 with a solid top and very nice rosewood back and sides.Ive just got it from my dad whos has babied it from new.

Ive always loved the sound of this guitar, but I was brought up with it too....my dad played lullabyes on it for me as a baby and nursery ryhmes on it as a child and I learned to play on it too.Its got a rich sound with clear as a bell notes when flatpicking.Hes only ever used the very best strings and Im continueing that tradition.I recently went to a music shop to check out a Martin and their medium price range doesent even come close to the sound of this. The higher end $2000+ ones competed well tho...but I dont see a $1500 difference...so I reckon its the name on the headstock.

Well made, with solid feel. The neck is V shaped like a Martin, chrome tuners and no messy glue anywhere. The only thing I would say is that I didnt like the adjustable bridge,so I changed it to a normal one.The action is just fine for me and my dad says it was fine for him too.I had to have it set up when I removed the adjustabe bridge.
They stopped making them with that bridge after a few years. The body is bound front and back with a nice pinstripe on the front.

I was born in 1975 and my dad bought this about 4 years before and its lasted this long without a problem.Hes played regular since then and all it ever needed was the set up when the bridge was changed. All is tight on this guitar. If I was a pro Id use it without backup.

Been playing since I was a child 20+ years and Ive played lots of different guitars and even tried another DR7,but it wasnt the same.
There seems to be a difference in quality between the later ones and the earlier ones.Mine has a paper label inside and a sideways M on the headstock in abalone. Its also got "model dr7" stamped on that label.looks like in the old days they used the same label and just stamped a model number on it.If anything happened to it I would try to replace it with the same vintage model...I dont like the newer ones.

my Sigma DR-7 was my high school graduation present back in 1972 I think it cost about $250 at that time.
I actually hitchiked cross-country with it, but that's another story.
The only problem was with the neck which *always* needed to the adjusted as the action was very high on the lower neck. I had a guitar repair person recently look at it and he said it was 'belly-up' ...in other words tension from the strings were bowing the wood! not worth fixing.
has anyone else experienced this?

70s made in japan for CF Martin & Co.This is a nice guitar and well made. Its got a solid top and rosewood back and sides.I think the last reviewer got one with the wrong label!Hes not describing a DR7!!Having said that mine is an SDR7 the S standing for solid top.Dreadnaught shape and a well made axe.Ive had another Dr7 and its just as well made. Its a solid guitar with a nice feel and great sound.

Sound is full and rich with a good resonance.Ive been using it for years as a campfire, travelling guitar. The sound cuts through a lot of noise and its well defined and tight.Single notes can be heard well.I like it best when fingerpicking

Bought it used so dont know about setup,I had it setup and adjusted myself and no probs since then.Tuners work fine and are smooth.Build quality is good with a nice finish and no poor joints or glue marks.Mine has an "M" sideways inlaid on the headstock under the sigma name.

Been hacking it around for 22 years now with no problems, its got the odd ding on it,but has held up well to many drunken nights and many parties when everyone played it.I keep the soundboard oiled and the tuners are still smooth.Would use without a backup with no prob

Wrote to Martin about it and a nice guy there gave me the rundown, telling me Sigmas began in 1970.The plan was to make a guitar for the lower price market. No warranty was given, but the second generation Sigmas made after 1980 all have a limited lifetime warranty. He even told me the list price of mine when it was new

Been playing for 30 or more years and have about 6 different guitars of various makes. The first DR7 I had was broken in a barfight and I did replace it with the SDR7,I didnt notice a huge difference in sound between them to be honest. This isnt my favourite guitar,(favourites a Martin d28)but the Martin is too valuable to take out a lot so its for home playing only. This sounds almost as good, but not quite as rich.Well worth the money though.

My Sigma DR-7 was made around the year 1980. Inside sticker says made in Japan. Has standard amount of frets as most acoustic dreadnought guitars. I have inspected this guitar and have concluded by appearance and sound that it does not have a solid spruce top, and neither does it have solid rosewood back and sides. The top has a very thin layer of spruce over some other type of wood. The back and sides are laminated rosewood. The bridge is standard, and nothing special. Tuners are basic as well with some rust.

I play fingerstyle. It sounds very plain, like most acoustic guitars made in Taiwan or China. I even put high end martin strings and the sound still sucks. I have owned many acoustic guitars and this one happens to be one of the worst.

I purchased this guitar on ebay for alot of money. I assure you it was a waste of money. At least the guitar was put together pretty well, and the finish is pretty good also.

This guitar is dependable. It is built faily solid. This guitar should not be used for performances. It should be used as a practice guitar only.

I have been playing for over 12 years. I also own many other acoustic guitars, electric guitar, classical guitar, and flamenco guitar. I do not care if this guitar was stolen, or broken. This guitar is easily replaceable by a used $60 guitar. This guitar simply is not worth more than $100. Mint condition or not, it just isn't worth it. I was told that this guitar is excellent and is a solid wood guitar. Unfortunately, it is not.

This is a super made in Japan acoustic dreadnaught guitar.I bought it in the 70s and it was top of the line then.Solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides make this an amazing guitar which sounds better than some Martins Ive used.Ive been told these were made by Takamine for martin under the Sigma brand as Martin wanted to produce a cheaper guitar for the lower end market. All these DR7s were first assembled in Japan and then back to Nazareth for a final setup and check by Martins own staff.Only then did they let them out to selected dealers. This is a dead ringer for a Martin D28

Ive given this guitar all I had as I went thru all the usual stages, flatpickin, strumming, and just plain ole guitar beatin and it never let me down. The sound is full and and rich with just the right volume.Notes can be heard clearly.I use light strings for flatpicking and mediums for strummin

Properly made and finished, the woods are beautiful and the rosewood graining on the back and sides are top quality, action was just right when I got it,but Ive gone thru a few saddles in the last 30 years and finally replaced them with a bone one and a bone nut as well. The guitar has a pearloid "m" on the headstock and chrome tuners,Ive seen other ones without the m,dont know what it means

Been palying all my life and Ive played the best and the rest. This is one of the best guitars for the money with the best sound Ive ever heard, hard to find tho,as they were only made for a few years and then Martin changed the name to DR28.It compares to the budget Martins around today, and a lot of other so called high end guitars.Ive replaced it and if they were stolen,I would search high and lo for another after first hunting down the thief and beating him till he told me where it was
