SOLID spruce top. You can always tell if the guitar is solid top for Sigma guitars by the "S" designation in front of the model. So this is a SDR-28, and an SDR-35 would be solid top, etc. Rosewood back and sides. I can't tell if they are laminated or not. Made in Korea.

Neck actually looks like stained maple or cherry to me, with a mogogany finderboard. Also has a neck adjusting screw inside.

To me, sounds excellent, as good as any D-28 I have played. I haven't played many, maybe 20, but this guitar sounds great. It has the same quality of sound, although different, as my 1972 MARTIN D-35. As soon as I strummed it in the consigment shop I knew I had to have it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Excellent fit, finish, and setup. No cracks of any kind. Looks almost new. Inside is identical to Martin D-28 construction.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Still in great shape, so excellent.

Never used it.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for 30+ years. This is truly a great guitar. Only alternative I would consider is a real Martin HD-28 or D-28. But I can keep this one on the wall of my office without fear. If someone stole it, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

I would prefer a real Martin, but would hate to think about it hanging on the wall at work. These great guitars are really undervalued. Make sure you get the S models, as they have the solid top.

Made 1993 as indicated by serial #. Everything else as above posts. Basic dreadnaught in Martin D-style. Tuners: Chrome generic (martin style, no inscription, light gearing action). But tuners hold excellently.

Sound : 7
Excellent bright sound, not quite enough bottom, but only noticed by comparing against more expensive all-solid counterparts. Better than average for price range. Nothing near my Gibson. Play classic acoustic rock and country.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Action was too high but had professional set-up and solved that. The fit and finish is flawless. The top was so well bookmatched it looks like one solid piece with beautiful quilt patterns. A VERY quirky thing about this guitar is the sides/ back do not come close to matching. Sides look like redwood (reddish) but back is dark brown with different grain pattern which looks more like mahogany. Also, neck is gloss but at headstock tranisition the back and top is matte finish. Binding (white plastic?) bond to body flawless.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is bulletproof. Delta Airlines tried to do it in but couldn't. I've banged it against everything I've come close to.

N/A Bought new, never had a problem.

Overall Rating : 8
I bought this guitar new in '94 and didn't give it the respect it deserved. Always considered it my practice guitar. I started playing it daily 11 weeks ago and have come to love it. But it still is only a laminated Korean Martin D-28 copy. You can buy $400 guitars now that sound as good as this. I wouldn't attempt to replace with another if lost or stolen, as that would seem to be impossible. But I would be heartbroken and would not part with this one.

The guitar was made somewhere around 1984.In Korea. It has a solid spruse top with laminated rosewood back and sides. It has 20 frets and came with a martin hard shell case.

Sound : 10
This guitar is exactly what I have been looking for.I play bluegrass music and nothing comes close to a Martin for sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action on this guitar was set up by the previous owner and is very comfortable.great woods and finish, probably not as good [the finish]had it been made in the USA.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar will last a life time if treated right.Very well made,no need to carry an extra this one will last.

I started playing at age 12. I quit playing for several years and started back about 10 years ago.I own another acoustic guitar and a Fender mandolin. If I lost this guitar I would try and find another one.I bought tyis guitar because I`ve got a Martin D-28 at about a third of the price.Sigma doesn`t make this guitar anymore so I feel very lucky to own it.

Sigma SDR-28, Martin D-28 copy, with solid spruce top, laminate rosewood back and sides.

Sound : 10
I love this guitar. I have owned this one for approximately 7 years. It has aged well, with beautiful tonal qualities. I have no fear playing music with other pickers playing Collings or High end Martins. You couldn't give me a Taylor. The SDR-28 I owned previously developed cracks in the top from the bridge back. I sent it to Martin and they replaced it. I replaced the nut and saddle with bone, and installed a Carl McIntyre pickup which I run thru an LR Baggs paracoustic pre-amp/di box. this goes into my Crate 6 channel box mixer/amp and out through two ten inch crate speakers. Great sound, especially for those of us on a budget. Being primarily a bluegrass/country player, this guitar has that booming bottom end that I desire for Country/Bluegrass playing.

I play this guitar exclusively. It does well around the campfire and on stage. If you buy one, have it set up professionally and have the nut & saddle replaced with bone. I alos can't recommend teh McIntyre system enough.

lifetime warrenty for original owner

outstanding value for the money. I have played high dollar guitars that don't sound near as good.
