I know what you're thinking... Silvertone? what a cheap guitar! Yeah, OK but the SG body style attracted me, and Gibson's prices sickened me, and with a moneyback guarentee... what the hell? This was bought new fro Zzounds, made in 2003-4, 21 frets, made in USA (NOT! Korea probably). Two passive humbuckers PUs, bolt-on neck, with 2 tone knobs, 2 volume knobs, and 3-way toggle switch. Maple neck, rosewood fretboard, GEORGEOUS black "liquid metal" finish.

Tone is EXCELLENT, and easily varied to suit your desire. Low noise coming through the amp (if you have a decent amp and throw away the crappy cable that comes with this great guitar). I used to own a Gibson SG, and this Silvertone sounds better... NO KIDDING !!! It does ANY musical style that you know how to play; Metal, rock, blues, country, etc. Sustain is superb, an it stays in tune well. The range on the tone knob is not even, but that's nit-picking. I use overdrive, chorus, distortion, and octave pedals going into a Peavey KB/A 60 amp = SUPER CLEAN sound, or heavy metal growl, or... whatever you want.
Don't let the low price fool you, this is a TOP NOTCH axe !! But if you're a Gibson or Fender snob... fine... go ahead and slam this guitar's name all you want, but you're the moron who spent 5-10 times too much for a guitar! Hah!!

The great looking glossy black finish was flawless! Nice chrome harware. Pickups were a bit loose, but easily tightened. Right out of the box, it tuned up and sounded great. Low action, no fret buzz, easy as pie.

Solid as a rock! Dependable, tough, it'll outlive me. Gig without a backup? Yeah, if I had to with any guitar, I would with this Silvertone, but a backup is ALWAYS a good idea.

been playing 30 years, off & on, and this guitar is at least as good as ANY other solid body I've played, and better than most. If stolen, then the theif is an idiot for risking jailtime to get a guitar that would only cost him $150. But the bigger idiot is the guy who pays $800-$1,500 for a Gibson SG. I would definitely buy another one of these under-priced gems.

Even though this guitar doesn't have a double-locking tremolo or anything like that, that isn't necessarily a short-coming. When a guitar has a simpler but effective design, you'll find that it is more trust worthy and dependable. This guitar does, however, have dual tone and volume controls, which I fell in love with.

The humbuckers on this guitar give you a really clear tone and is great for solos.

This is a beautiful guitar.

This guitar is constructed excellently. You can feel safe knowing that this guitar is probably the sturdiest, most difficult guitar to damage ever made.

I have put buying guitars in perspective for myself and anyone interested. What you want in a car (or should), you should want in a guitar. A guitar should look good, sound mean, be dependable, be comfortable, and be fast (have a neck that is great for solos). I'd like to add: I don't like seeing a guitar described as a good value, it makes it seem like there's something wrong with it, or it isn't top-of-the-line. Well, this guitar is top-of-the-line, trust me. I am simply dumbfounded that this guitar is only $150, seeing as how this guitar is, aside from accessory appearance, (not worse, by the way) Gibson's '61 SG, which I might add, is about $1,700. Simply put: Gibson's prices are retarded in a bad way, and Silvertone's prices are retarded in a good way. By the way, why isn't Silvertone listed as a manufacturer on this site? Gibson is listed, and they are, in no way, a respectable guitar company.
