3-layer Laminate with real hardwood 1 piece Mahogany between 2 pieces of Red Wild Cherry.
TusQ nut and compensated saddle
Not very ornate, however is pleasing to look at and definately not an ugly box. Just a good looking no thrills plain Jane.

My style is ACOUSTIC almost anything acoustic. This is obviously where the the attention to detail of all the guitars made from the Godin people go into the SOUND. Nothing beats a handcrafted guitar in this category. Think Yairi, Collings, Froggy Bottom, Huss & Dalton, Santa Cruz ect... While this guitar doesn't compare to the likes of these $2000+ guitars I would dare say it compares nicely with the Martins, Taylors, Breedlove's, Yairi's in the under $1500 range. I rate this based on it being in that under $1500 category.

Not your $2000 fit & finish but everything was clean and well done across the board. Doesn't look like a million bucks but it sounds like one. Because it's not $2000 I'll rate it for what it is.

I have either past or present owned the following : Martin DX1, Alvarez PD80S both of which I still have. I've owned other Alvarez, Ibanez, Dean, Fender and probably a few more that I've forgotten. I don't think for under $1500 you could get a better overall guitar than the Simon & Patricks, Seagull's. For the money they are hand's down hard to beat.

This was a new one but a factory second for a VERY VERY slight imperceptible cosmetic flaw in the binding so the 565. dollar guitar became a 460 dollar guitar ( Can) in the blink of an eye. Spruce with wild cherry back and sides ( and neck , I believe ) 21 frets , solid sprice top with a light laquer fisish not heavy gloss. B-Band pickup w/ volume , mid , treb and bass, battery accessible through door at rear by the strap pin. Dreadnought body .

I finger pick a little and strum a little and flatpick and it fits the bill across the board. Acoustically it sounds good but I lowered the action which results in a bit of low end loss . Nice bright top end , though with the solid spruce top.

I did my own setup for the action and filed the nut slightly ...It is PERFECT now . The neck seems a bit wider than your Yamaha , Takemine , "You name it" Asian brands which is why I was drawn to this model. The fit and finish , except for the aforementioned minor flaw , are outstanding . I played about 40 to 50 guitars by this company ( Godin...they make Seagull, Simon and Patrick, Norman, and Art and Lutherie...)while looking for "the right one" from the top model to the entry level these are VERY impressive instruments both cosmetically and functionally.
Reliability/Durability
:

I have only had it a short time ...I can't really comment on its projected life span HOWEVER I noticed a bit of slippage in one tuning peg . So far , tuning is unaffected and of the other 40 or so models I tried , I NEVER saw that problem. The finish is a question mark . It looks fantastic but whether the durability is there is hard to say .

I've played for nearly 40 years and I've owned Ovations, Fenders , Yamaki, Takemine , Aria ....this is easily more playable than most of the above brands . Now that I've worked on the action , it seems easier to Customize it , too.The price for these instruments is REALLY RIGHT and I expect it will be a "goodun" for quite some time

Hand built in Canada. Solid spruce top acoustic with cutaway and pickup. The dealer included a hard case and a few sets of strings with the deal.

I tend to play play mainly country and folk styles. This guitar has a very full, bassy and bright sound which totally fits my style. I find it particularly good for fingerpicking.

A slightly tough action compared to my other guitar, so I'll probably invest in a professional setup in the near future. I love the plain looking finish.

This guitar stands up well to live playing - and has done so quite a few times in the three months of owning it. It appears and feels as though it is a very solid and sturdy guitar, so I would expect it to last well for a long time to come.

I haven't needed to contact S&P for customer support reasons, although I did email them via their web site to congratulate them on the quality of their guitars, which they seemed to appreciate.

I've been playing on a regular basis for about four years. During that time I've played many makes and models but none compare to my S&P. I just cannot fault it. It is a true value for money guitar.

1999 model with cutaway and pickup
Solid spruce top, with cherry sides and back, rosewood neck (I think)
Chunky-looking pickup (Quantum EQ)with 3-way equaliser, but pretty good sound (battery on the inside though)
Satin finish - barely there !
Seems like a slightly short neck, standard thickness
Overall, a pretty good setup for AU$ 600 or around US$ 300 at current exchange rates

I use it for folk and acoustic pub music in a band.
The sound can range from VERY bright and sharp to a lot mellower, depending on the strings and pickup settings. The sustain and attack are excellent, and I am thinking about upgrading the pickup even more, which will leave me with a superbly versatile and satisfying instrument for a fraction of the price of other brands of similar quality.
At the moment, I'm using it straight into the mixing desk without a preamp, and the sound is crisp and bright, though it does lack a little light and shade....not that important for what I use it for though

Not really any technical problems with the setup, though I do notice that if I put the lightest guage strings on, it tends to need tuning after every song. The neck also needs a little adjusting as the harmonics up the neck are a bit flawed. This would matter if I used the neck more !
The pickup looks really chunky, but plays fairly well for the price.
The machine heads are just OK..thinking about replacing them with better ones as well.

Used it live lots of times and it has loved it !
The really cool thing about this guitar is that the longer you play it in a session, the better it sounds, and you can actually appreciate the improvement in tone after an hour or so of playing.
The finish seems quite thin, but overall it has stood up well to the first year of use

Can't say anything about the company, but the shop I bought it from told me to go away and play it in for a couple months before bringing it back to get properly set up, and were really helpful.

Overall, it is very different to my other guitar, which is an F-series Takamine. It compares very well with Maton, Epiphone and Gibson guitars, when price is taken into account. It has a couple of slightly annoying flaws, but for the money you get an A-grade sound and plenty of durability.
I would recommend it as first choice for the non-professional chord-bashers like myself who love the sound of spruce, but can't afford a guitar with all the bells and whistles. If it was lost, I'd look at another straight away, having looked for second-hand, more expensive ones first, though. It has a great sound for country anf folk, but I think that the need for medium-guage strings would make it a pain in the ass for rock players looking for an acoustic option.

Handmade in La Patrie and Princville, Quebec, Canada. Spruce top, Cherry sides back, 21 Frets with cutaway. Has a small visual blemish on the back so I got A GREAT DEAL!

I chose this one over the cedar models cause it had a brighter more full sound. It sounds great when strumming and plucking. And it is going to sound much better once I play it in over the years!

Perfect set up for a guitar. The lack finish I have a little worry about cause it will get so many nicks in it. That would probably be even worse with the cedar models. As I said before it has a visual blemish on the back, nothing serious, most people wouldn't even spot it.

This guitar has a very full sound both plugged in, and unplugged. I didn't think that the unplugged sound would turn out to be too great, but was I wrong! This is the sound I was looking for. I run this guitar through effects pedals, and it still sounds very sweet.

I had a S&P 12 string before(which I loved), but it was stolen from my church. I knew that I wanted to stay with S&P after looking at so many other companys. S&P is the real deal. It is a great company that makes a great guitar. I don't think I will ever need another acoustic again. This guitar is great!

This is a 1998 model, Canadian hand-made (La Patrie & Princeville, Quebec. Dreadnought body style with flat (perpendicular)cutaway. Solid spruce top, wild cherry ply sides and back. Features Quantum EQ electronics (not sure if it's the Quantum Pro version). Purchased new from Mainline Music in Auckland, New Zealand, about a month ago. Neck woods, fret number, tuners, finish, etc. same as other S&P 6 models reviewed here.

I'm a strummer first and foremost (Shadows rhythm, Eagles, America, Neil Diamond, CSNY, etc.) and love its big, full, bassy but bright sound and light touch (big sound even with soft thumb strumming). But I also pick/strum a lot of blues, some jazz and Latin as well as all kinds of pop/rock. I'm finding this guitar very versatile both with and without amp. (mostly use a Vantage (Samick, Korea) 10watt Chorus practice amp). You can also get a flat, tight country sound, nice harmonics, very full and clean with capo. It's quite bass-boomy which can require a bit of experimenting on the EQ, but I generally prefer plenty of bottom-end (helps when you're trying to be a one-man band, too). The Quantum gives quite a lot of sound variety, from pure acoustic to sharp lead, with Vol/Bass/Mid/Treble and Presence sliders, plus an interesting separate mid-range control knob. There's also a handy cut-out button and light, plus a battery test button and light.

I'm not really expert in this area, but fit, finish, action, etc. seem very good. There's one tiny nick on the top edge of the fingerboard at Fret 5. No big deal - could have been a tiny knot that popped out.

It's early days and I'm babying this guitar at the moment. The thin (four coats, sanded between) satin urethane finish (designed to allow greater vibration and improve sound with age, say the makers) may wear out sooner, but I'm not worried. As long as it sounds as good year after year, I'm happy. Hardware seems solid.

Impressed with the dealer salesman - an ace guitarist who recommended this brand and model even though I was shopping with more money than it cost. I was looking at more expensive Australian Matons, Takamine, K. Yairi, etc. Being in a hurry on the Saturday, I didn't decide. Came back Monday to find the S&P6 had been sold just after I saw it. He said this brand really moves through the shop. He ordered another from the local distributor and phoned me when it arrived two days later. Threw in a quality Fender lead and Levy strap and gave me a half-price deal on a new Samick hardshell case. He also issued the 1-year Warranty. I subsequently e-mailed LaSiDo in Canada with the model number and they got the actual luthier to send back some construction info. Later found the S&P website, conveyed my appreciation of their product and they seemed most gratified.

I just turned 55, have played amateur/semi-pro/session/parties and private since I was 15 (wow, 40 years!!). I have an old Ibanez acoustic, a baby Japanese classical (no name), Casio "toy" with many sounds and drum machine built-in, and my beloved Gibson J160E 1964 Acoustic/Electric which I bought second-hand many years ago and am now restoring (no acoustic volume and very "electric" pickup, but a joy to play). No solid-bodies currently, but interested in the Godin range or maybe even a Danelectro. The S&P is my birthday "treat", and that about sums up my reaction to it after a month. Love the big, rich full sound and just-right action. Hate putting it down. I agree with other reviewers that its performance and quality matches or exceeds those of several more expensive and celebrated guitars. more expensive. Too glowing? Too bad.
