I mainly play extreme metal, and while this wouldn't normally be my first choice of instrument, it certainly serves as an excellent rhythm guitar, which is what I mainly play. The sustain on the high end of the neck is quite poor, so lead guitarists be advised when buying this unless you're they Slayer type soloist who likes to shred and make the guitar squeal with the tremolo. Hovever it's got growl to it, and that's what I like in guitars.

I used this with a Boss Metalcore pedal and a Roland 30w Cube combo amp. Pretty nice, although I normally keep the gain down on the pedal to keep feedback from arising from the amp. It's not the noisiest of guitars, but with high gain settings with a guitar like this, there's bound to be noise, on a clean channel however it's nearly silent.

The sound is very warm when clean, not very bright, as I said it's got growl and is a rhythm players guitar.

I do wish there was more sustain in the upper register but I don't often play lead so it's not too much of a loss for me. For other players it will be however.

The action was perfectly set up, and I could easily just start pummeling the guitar as soon as I got it. The pickups were adjusted fine, along with everything else. Spector have a high quality standard too all of their instruments, and this instrument was not left behind.

Locking nut will be needed if any metal players plan on getting this and going nuts with the tremolo, an addition that this guitar could really use as standard, though I highly doubt Spector had the metal player in mind when they designed this instrument.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Basswood, as we all know isn't the most durable with woods, and the maple top will get dented quite easily. However with that said, I have had no problems with electronics that have stayed intact since I got it, and the bridge system is just lovely to use. Much more reliable then any Floyd Rose bridge I've ever used, though as I said before a locking nut is a definite addition for anyone buying this. And I don't mind my guitars getting a little bit beat up on the cosmetic side of things, haha!

Strap buttons are a decent size, but locks should be taken just incase, especially if you're playing over an hour set. I can definatley depend on it without a backup.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never dealt with Spector directly, however I do know they have a five year warranty against defects to the original owner, which i guess is pretty cool.

I've been playing for nearly 2 years, 4 years with bass, and I think this makes a great beginner/intermediate player's guitar. I own two other guitars, an Encore stratocaster copy and a Schecter Omen 6 FR. I find it to be a good match to the Schecter, though this does seem to have less noisier pickups. I love the neck and tremolo system, but the sustain can get so annoying if you're trying to play lead and you just can't hold that note.

I think this is a good choice for any type of music player, unexpectedly the metal player as well, I just hope Spector add the locking nut this guitar really should have with any updated models they have planned for the future.

There are a LOT of guitars with the SAME list of features ... But ... They are NOT "all the same" and this one has some exceptional qualitys. Spectror has made a name for themselves as a TOP OF THE LINE supplier of DISTINCTIVE and INNOVATIVE designs. This guitar maintains those HIGH STANDARDS. It's appeal is mostly to the serious player of complex music. Jazz, Fusion, Bebop, Prog Rock, (and I think -Funk-) players will appreciate the ambiance these instruments bring to the playing experience.

I have a lot of guitars and aquired this one mostly out of curiosity. I've been testing it thru a stereo chorus amp and comparing it to similar guitars. I like it a lot, the stock Tesla Pickups are PAF class (7.9K bridge & 7.4K neck). They're Spunky thru the clean channel and remain distinct and clear in the distortion channel. They have an exceptional warmth that is beautifully accentuated by the stereo chorusing. They're Well balanced and have no tendancy to get muddy however I adjust the amp. But they are NOT edgy or cutting and will require a stomp box to get any shredding action going, so the loud agressive player may want to replace them... I'm wondering how a SD Screaming Demon would sound in the bridge ??? (tempatation begins).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got the guitar USED (tho it's hard to tell) so I can't comment on "Out of the box" condition/setup. I have no issues with it as recieved other than a need to tighten the tremolo spings to get the tension up where I like it. The tremolo is great! Smooth and very articulate, feels much like a modern USA fender. I believe the nut is graphite which helps keep things in tune when the whammy bar is used. I recommend installing a set of LOCKING TUNERS to anyone who uses the tremolo for more than an occassional light tap. With lockers installed the tremolo system should be VERY reliable.

The Mirror Finish is Fabulous... This is an (orangy) amberburst model, (several color options are available). Somehow spector gets a subtle, muted finish, that still has a brilliant gloss which makes the quilting look fantastic. I suspect the start off Clear Coating with a MATT Clear and lay some high gloss over it (???). It's unique (!) deep and very appealing.

I found no flaws or inadequacys worthy of comment.

Seems to be built pretty tough. I expect it will stand up well on the road. The neck is 3 piece, which usually makes for a strong stable neck. The fretboard is fairly thick which adds to long term neck integrity. I've had no need to adjust the truss rod, but I expect it works adequately. I'm usually skeptical of import electronics quality/durability, but I've found nothing to complain about yet.

They have a GREAT rep, but I've never needed them.

I've been playing many years and have experience with most styles of guitars and amps. I own a lot of them. Which leads to my only real issue with this guitar... To me it's a specialised instrument and if I keep it, I will use it only for funk, progressive rock, and the occassional Alt/Fusion/Jazz style tune. I have to many other guitars suitable for those forms and may find it hard to justify hanging onto this one. If you're playing mainly, Jazzy, Funky, Progressive, type music and your looking for a "Main Sqeeze" guitar, you should SERIOUSLY consider this Spector ... They're a GREAT VALUE for the $$$ and probably a decent investment too!
