First of all, this is a great guitar!, i have owned my Squire Standard Telecaster 10 and is still great!. My Model was built in Indonesia, has an Antique Burst Rosewood Finish, a great red-ish color, 22 Medium Jumbo Frets, one volume and tone knob and a 3 way pick up selector (not much, its a standard)!, 2 Alnico single coil pickups and a great thin neck!
Sound
:10
I play Blues, Rock, Blues-Rock and Metal, i'm playing through a Marshall MG10 (boring amp) and doesn't give its full potential with it,but when i played through my friends fender amp, it came to life!, it gives a very bright sound, good for country, Blues, Rock and Hard Rock. I love the bright happy sound it gives, and also has a nice creamy blues sound it too.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:8
The Action of this guitar was perfect for me, not too low, not too high, and the pickups are great too, although i got annoyed by the buzzing on the Low E string (Smallest string) on multiple frets, and the Jack is very loose and even falls out sometimes!
Reliability/Durability

This guitar has never,never,never-ever bailed on me, even with the jack falling out of the body, it still plays perfectly, i don't play live so i cant really give an opinion for live playing. but overall, this is a very tough guitar!

Music, style, well, I play mostly British invasion stuff, but have many differnt tastes in music, for the most part, it suits what I would expect of a single coil pick up guitar.
I use it mainly with a reissue Vox Ac15, and some times with a marshall 8020 valvestate in conjunction with a tube preamp, sounds good on either amp, but, I prefer the Vox sound.
I use the Marshall and valve preamp, for thrashy stuff, heavy rock etc. The Telecaster handles these sounds well with the affore mentioned amps.
I generally (apart from the valve preamp) do not use pedals, so effects don't apply to me.
I can get most sounds I require with out effects pedals.
Mostly what I like about this guitar, is contrary to popular belief, it plays just as well, and sounds just as good as my band mates "real Fender" Telecaster, only thing is, he got rippered off, I didn't...haha !
I find (as opposed to my humbucker fitted guitars) it is a little noisey, not too bad though.
The cable has a tendence to be a bit microphonic, but thats due to the unshielded cable, NOT the guitar.
No dislikes, I'm happy with this guitar.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action, Fit and finish.
Well, I set the action and intonation etc. myself, to my specs.
The guitar was set up reasonably well straight off the shelf, I just reset it to my liking, because I can!!( more guitarists should learn how to set up thier own guitar, it is extremely simple, asuming you have a nice straight neck to start with).
Finish was good, clean, nice poly finish, neat, tidy.
Pick ups were adjusted nicely, didn't need to touch them.
Over all, nice and clean, attractive finish, better than my Fender Strat !
Reliability/Durability

I have used this guitar at several parties and other shows, have had no trouble with it.
I always have a back up on stage, NOT necessarily because I don't trust my guitar, BUT because I don't trust me.
I have dropped several guitars over the years, whilst performing, hence I have a back up on hand.
Mostly though, these days, I use strap locks, soooo no more dropping things, a must if you get a bit carried away and have a freak out haha !
If you haven't got a bit carried away from time to time, and freaked out, you haven't played to your full potential, smiling, :)
Yes, I would say I have used this guitar enough to say it is dependable.
It has chrome hardware, so if you sweat on it and don't clean it, it will rust, nothing new here.
Hardware is typical of chrome hardware, keep it clean it and it will last.

Good customer support.
I had an issue with the bridge pick up, had it fixed whilst the guitat was under warranty, no problems here.

I have been playing guitar since I was at school, 60's !
The thing I would like to stress here is, I've owned quite a few guitars in my time. I don't think it is necessary to spend several thousand dollars on a brand name guitar, when you can get a generic for a fraction of the cost.
Lets face it, a guitar is a fairly simple device, not at all like the space shuttle.
Given this, if the neck is true and the materials are of resonable quality, who needs an ego guitar ?
I've had them and am not impressed, my Epiphones and Squires are just as good, if not better in some cases than the so-called real thing, pun intended.
Is there anything I wish it had ?, NO !, it is a Standard Telecaster, nothing more nothing less, suits me nicely as it is.
I chose this Squire over a Fender because it played just as well, sounded very similiar, was well finished and cost one toe, not an arm and a leg !

2008, Indonesia, 22 fret, solid body, 2 pickup (neck, bridge), passive pickups, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. Black Metallic, string-through body bridge, stock pickups, standard Telcaster configuration.
Sound

I play mostly Blues, or Blues-based Rock, and it fits the bill nicely. You have the single coil 60 cycle hum, but that's to be expected. It has a very good Tele bridge sound- LOTS OF BITE! It really just cuts through. Before getting it, I thought I might need to replace the bridge pickup, but I may not. It sounds that good! Neck pickup is classic Telecaster also, good for mellow Blues or smokey Jazz licks. So far, I can find nothing wrong with the sound. Of course, your guitar amp has a lot to do with your sound also. For the money spent, it's a GREAT VALUE! Gets a solid 10.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
The action had to be adjusted, but that's fairly easy to do with the truss rod (remember-small increments). Some of the fret edges will need filing, but even more expensive models require that sometimes. I had to tighten some of the tuners, but that took just a couple of minutes. Overall, very good setup out of the box. Same body-thickness as USA or Mim Telecasters. Beautiful paint job, will look very nice once I've replaced the white pickguard (either black or tortoise shell). I give it a 9.

I think it would hold up to live playing. Have you ever seen what some punk-rock, or garage bands play with? Your finances dictate what you can afford. This guitar, with a proper setup would do fine in a live setting. Just tweak it to your liking, and let it go! Remember, a lot of your tone is in your hands. You can have a $1000 guitar and still not sound good. The Squier Standard Telecaster seems solid enough. Take care of it the way you would any guitar, and it should be fine. I would always take a second guitar to a gig. It just makes sense.

I've played for nearly 30 years. I've owned Gibson Les Pauls, SGs, USA Fender Strats and Teles, so I know quality when I see or hear it. These days my budget is a little tighter (as is most Americans' I'm sure), so I have shopped around a lot. I don't play professionally, just a hobbyist; but I've played a couple of gigs in my day. In a live setting, you might be surprised what sounds can cut through the mix. The Telecaster has a way of riding the top, just the right amount of treble to stand out. After all these years, it really is the most simple, yet effective electric guitar. I love the way it looks, sounds, and the overall playability. I thought about upgrading to a MIM model, but if I don't; the Squier Standard Telecaster will work just fine. If you're on a tight budget, check it out. You will be impressed, I'm sure.

Mine is a new 2007/2008 Telecaster Standard in Candy Apple Red polyurethane gloss finish.
The guitar has 2 AlNiCo II, single coil pickups: neck is chrome covered while the bridge pup is exposed.
The strings are backloaded. Tuners are non-descript, mini Gotoh-like and work well.
The rock maple neck is a comfortable C-shape, somewhat of a semi-baseball bat thickness. The fingerbaord is rosewood ans the frets feel like jumbos.
The body is a standard tele size and thickness and is made of Agathis. Tone and volume controls round out the package.
Sound
:8
The guitar comes strung with 9's. I restrung with 11's with a wound 3rd.
The sound is quite good and better than I expected. One either the bridge or neck pup alone, there is some single coil noice, but that disappears in hum-canceling mode when both pups are on.
The guitar has the spank you expect in a Tele with no acidic Strat tone, though the tone is quite bright in a good way.
I've had the gutiar for a few weeks now and originally thought I'd never replace the pups, but if I was to gig with the guitar, I'd replace both pups for a little more clarity of tone. For at-home/garage-band use, the stock pups are fine clean or dirty.
For the money, the gutiar sounds liek a "10", but compared ot other guitars costing much mroe, it's closer to a 7 or 8.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Excellent action, intonation, fit, and finish. No adjustment of the neck was needed and action is 2/32" from E-to-E.
For the moeny this gutiar costs, it should get a "15", but "10" is as high as I can go.
Reliability/Durability
:10
This guitar could stand up to live use, but as I said, you'd probably want to change out the pups and maybe some of the switches to curtail any strange staciy soudns you can't have going thru a PA. \
For at-home use, though, the guitar gets a solid "10" outta the box.

2008, Made in Indonesia. 22 medium Jumbo Frets, 2 alnico SS pick ups Agathis body, Maple Neck with rosewood fretboard .Polyurethane Finish. Standard tele controls, two single coil pickups, with the neck pickup covered.
Sound
:9
Full and rich are not adjectives I'd use to describe the sound of this guitar but it does produce a very versatile sound. All three pickup settings produce extremely useful sounds. The bridge pickup won't make your ears bleed like some strats. The Neck pick up produces a tone so sweet and clean. I find it a great blues and jazz sound. nice tone control. The sustain is very subtle and is great for chording. In middle and bridge position you get that "twang" sound. Never thought I'd like a tele, always thought it was a one trick (country) pony. Not so. Playing at the edge of break up on my Vox AD amp, this guitar is great, you can get quite dirty with it and still have note clarity. And when run totally dirty, it has a very edgy sound.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Some shops will set a guitar up before it goes on the floor, some don't. this guitar was a diamond in the rough.
When picked up from the shop it played like the $200 guitar that it was. The pickups (quiet) didn't require adjustment (a little low but I like that). The action and intonation were awful.Grimy neck and bad strings. Fixed all that and now I see what a great deal this guitar is. I'm sooooo impressed, it plays great. the bridge seems good quality as are the V&T knobs. the PU switch feels cheap. Tuning pegs are good; it really stays in tune.
The frets feel a bit like they were added to the guitar as apposed to being part of the guitar, but not horrible.
The finish is nice, the rosewood fretboard not as nice.
Reliability/Durability

This guitar is built to last. feels as solid as my much more expensive guitars. apart from the previously mentioned PU selector switch. There's no reason this guitar could not be trusted in any situation.

Have a Fender Highway one HSS Strat. (upgrade), ESP Xtone semi hollow body, and a Vox Valvetronix amp (love the clean on it).
this Squire tele is not the best guitar I have and at $200 and a fraction of the price of my other guitars you couldn't expect it to be. It is however, the most versatile.
Was actually looking for a new amp when I tried the Fender MIM tele. was blown away by it. Couldn't afford that and took home the Squire.
Wish I could have got the MIM one and if you can spend 5 bills on a guitar check it out. felt better, sounded better, but 300 more. If you can't afford that get the Squire. 80% of the guitar at 40% of the cost!
Highly recommend as a budget guitar for a serious player or for a first guitar, guarantied to satisfy for a long time. I was wrong to pigeon hole this guitar as a country guitar. (but I do love that twangy taste)
If it was stolen that would replace it in a second. But if budget permitted, I'd go for a Fender version.

Nice sweet sound. Very impressed with the original pickups. Warm sound with only the Neck pickup switched on and the Tele Twang from the Bridge. Different music styles playable with this baby. From Classic to Punk. The only complaint was the Pickguard for the Antique burst; It came with a Tortoise shell I would've loved white for the classic look. I replaced it anyway and it looks beautiful. I like things orginal as well so I might replace the original in time

Super good tele twang and can mellow out. I use it with HRDx SCXD V8 VJr w 1 by 12 and 4 by 12 So. Cal. cabs. Have not needed to use many effects, just a little tremolo, boss tremolo, very sweet. Bright sound. Tele characteristic brightness and palm muting can yield some nice muffled tones. I like the feel, looks, playability, and sound. A superior sounding guitar. Set up right.

Playing for a long time, seriously for about three years with weekly lessons since I retired. Main instrument has been drums. Now I am getting into some serious guitar and collecting, so to speak, getting better guitars as I go. Never thought I'd get a Squire but some of them are far better than I had thought they were. This is a sweet guitar and has that charismatic look that takes you in. The guitar picked me. I was looking for a different guitar when I saw it.
