When I got this guitar I didn't know what I was buying because I was just starting but when I started playing it and knowing how it worked I noticed that the wammy bar was doulbe action which usually doesn't happen with stratocasters. 22 frets.

Sound : 10
I like this guitar best for rhythm because it has an all maple neck which gives a warmer tone that rosewood but It can still handle lead like a les paul.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The finish is perfect. Antique Sunburst but I have to tighten the output jack once a month but It is not that big of a deal.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is amazing for live sound. This guitar is very prone to feedback. I also have a Epiphone les paul standard and sometimes in the middle of a show my les paul will start giving me this really bad feedback but I always fix it but I like my strat for feedback situations on stage. This guitar is also very light unlike my les paul.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never delt with them.

Overall Rating : 9
So this guitar is a very good guitar to play on stage and in jam practices. It can just handle anything you throw at it, except for metal.

Strat standard, three p/ups. Fat 70s style headstock. Dual pivot trem. Standard tuners, nothing special - 21 fret Squire strat. Maple neck, maple fretboard. I have had it for 5 years.

Sound : 9
I play mostly blues and classic rock SRV, Brian Setzer, Clapton, stones etc, although I dabble in mainstream rockabilly. I play with a fender frontman 25R and a Princeton 65 reissue S/S. A Danelectro Fab overdrive - thats it.

little buzzy at times, but thats to be expected of a strat american, MIM, or otherwise. i've been playing for over 20 years and I like this guitar. I can make this baby sound like clapton, SRV, you name it. Over the years I have played everything from American Strats, LPs, SGs, Teles, Gretsch, etc.

I can't speak for those who say these guitars are crap because maybe they got a dud (or maybe, just maybe they suck or are guitar snobs). I have played out with it as my stand alone guitar with no back up. Crisp clean channel, gritty overdrives, you just gotta know how to work it.

Having said that I will say that there is not much range in the tone controls. A cool strat trick is turning down the tone on the neck p/up and all the way up in the bridge then slamming the 5 way back and forth for a cool wah effect. This guitar can do that pretty well.

All in all, for a one-trick-pony like myself, I leave jaws on the floor when I shred on this baby. I have other guitarists heading out to buy one after they hear mine though my less than average set up.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Nice looking finish, clean even clear coat over a sunburst finish with a tortoise shell pickguard.

Reliability/Durability : 7
The input jack comes loose from time to time. Easy to tighten it though. This is a common strat problem (american or other). My dual pivot bridge pulled loose so I pulled if off, filled the holes and screwed a 6 screw standard, vintage style into it. This was a quick, easy, and cheap fix. since then it has been a tank. it is my only guitar.

Customer Support : 1
After the bridge pulled loose (3 years after I had it) I called the customer support at fender. I was able to talk to someone right away. The guy said it was past warranty and said I got enough use from it and did not offer any help

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing over 20 years. If this guitar was lost or stolen, I would replace it with the same thing (probably a different color - just for something new). There is nothing I hate about this guitar.

I have never written a review before, but I wanted to give a response to all those guys who are afraid to get squire on their hands if they touch one. This guitar is great for the beginner or pro who wants a great sounding guitar and don't want to spend a ton. If you gotta have the fender at the top then get a fender, but if not get one of these.

If you're any good the sound will come from the sauce on your fingers, not the spaghetti on the head.

Made in 2007. It's a plain strat - 5 way switch, 3 single coils, yadda yadda yadda. Mine was made in INDONESIA. No special features. so this section gets a 5.

Sound : 3
It sounds OK. Let's just say it "gets the job done". This guitar is not meant for anything other than beginners, or a toy you don't mind slinging around.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 2
The body is made of agathis, which looks like a very red wood UNDER the paint. The wood feels very cheap. The neck also feels very cheap. The whole thing feels cheap....and looks cheap. cheap! cheap! cheap! The guy at guitarzzz.com will probably give you one for free. haha

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
No it is not very reliable. Although I'm sure it can hold up to some abuse. It has tuning problems by the way.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with, and never will.

Overall Rating : 4
Like I said - It's made cheap for beginners. What do you expect. The neck of a guitar is the most important thing, and the neck on this is a disappointment. Alsmost feels like a childs toy to me, compared to a USA made strat anyway.

Covered by many previous reviewers. But let me just clear one thing up for you. The reviews that claim this is on par with a Fender Stratocaster (Mexican) are not giving you the facts. the fender strat is an entirely different animal with much better quality conrol, wiring, pickups and playability. To compare it to Fenders is just immature and not the case. These are nice guitars for the money but do NOT confuse them with Fender stratocasters, their not and to tell someone that is really a bogus review. You get what you pay for. These are nice guitars but are DEFINETLEY not real stratocasters, that said I think for the money it's the best buy out ther in it's price range but it is NOT a FEnder strat.

Sound : 6
Sounds Ok for the money but anyone who says this is on line with an American Strat has NEVER played an American strat most if the reviewers of this guitar are teenagers or pre-teens excited to have their first guitar. Don't compare this to an American strat. It sounds Ok and for the money it's a very good buy vut to say it's on par with even a Standard Mexican strat is just immature and not to be believed. The sound is better than average for the price but still thin and weak compared to a REAL Stratocaster. Don't believe the posters (who should really be called POSERS) who tell you it's on par with a Fender strat, it's not, in fact it's not even close and to say so smaks of real immaturity.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 3
You'll need to take this to a GOOD tech to get it set up proplerly, The frets need to be dressed, sharp ends filed and pickups adjusted as well as action and intonation adjustments. The factory setup is very, very, poor. I would highly recomend you play SECERal of these and find the one that feels the best as these guitars can vary widely from guitar to guitar (this is true with all Fenders) but ESPECIALLY on the Squire line where quality control is almost non-existant. One last piece of advise NEVER,NEVER buy these sight unseen over the internet (that goes for Fenders too) as no other guitar manufacturer has such a wide difference from guitar to guitar and on Fenders cheapest line buying without seeing is like playing Russian roulete excpet they'll be 5 bullets in the gun instead of one.

Reliability/Durability : 3
This is a very inexpensive guitar and it's built that way, the wiring is extremely poor so don't expect to get years from this with no problems unless your good with wires and a soldering iron. The wiring on these things can be a disaster. Another good reason to try befor you buy. I have seen these with the pickup selector switch wired completely wrong and the tone selectors not even wired. These are good guitars IF you find agood one. TRY it first. You may go thru a dozen before you find one that "speaks" to you. If you get a good one you'll love it. Anyone who says they'd gig wwith this has never seen a stage. It is not profeesional in quality by ANY measure or even intermediate quality. It's a nice beater or a great first guitar but you'd better try before you buy.

Customer Support : 1
Good luck. Fender probably has the WORST customer service in the business followed closely by Ibanez.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
This is a good guitar for the money if you take your time and find a good one. To compare them to Fenders is ludidrous and speaks of a reviewers immaturity. It is a Great first guitar if you find a good one and then after you've gotten into being able to play with some competence graduate to a Fender Standard Stratocaster. You will hear the difference as soon as you plug in...assuming your using a decent amp. A tube amp will bring out everthing that single colis have to offer but don't believe the reviewers that tell you this is as good or on par with a Fender strat. It's not, it's not even close.

The initial features sound exciting. You have a single coil, double coil, and hum bucker along with a nifty switch that allows you to change up your sound choice a lot.

Basic 21 frets.

Sound : 5
The sound for this beginners guitar in my opinion is very average.
I've heard many different guitars. If you play jazzy, blues toons and thats it, then this guitar isn't bad. But I play punk rock and there is a horrible amount of feedback and string humming when you turn on the distortion.

You might be thinking "maybe your amp sucks". Well, I tried it on my brothers much more expensive Line 6 medium Amp. And the problem remains.

Definitely not a guitar for gigging. But then Again, this guitar was only about 200 dollars so Its ok for the price.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The pickups for this guitar were very sturdy actually. I haven't experienced any problems with them. The turn knobs are conveniently placed and work pretty well.

Reliability/Durability : 7
The guitar is definitely durable partially due to its size. Its also pretty heavy but at least its not lopsided.
I've dropped it once, and hit the neck against a wall a couple times and it didn't even scratch it that bad.
The gloss seems well applied. I've had the Squire for over a year and it looks like new with a bit of polish.
I got mine in Black with chrome knobs and pick guard so it gets dusty pretty easy.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 6
This is a great first guitar. But it will probably sound like crap if you try to play it loud and live. Best for practicing.

Squier Strat SE100 Special. It's basic, but great - agathis body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. The neck's bolt-on, solidly built and very smooth. Plenty of travel on the 22 medium jumbo frets, more than wide enough for my sausage fingers! My Strat's got the gloss black vinyl finish with three generic (I hope Fender, but probably not) single-coil pickups, with the five-way selector and angled bridge pickup. Pretty simple tremolo on the bridge - mine was second-hand and didn't include the whammy bar, but oh well, not really used it! Generic tuners as well, but they hold firm and the Strat stays in tune well enough. It came out of the SE100 starter pack, but I didn't get the tuner - I use a Korg CA-30 instead. I did get the bag, Fender strap, Squier SP-10 amp with cable and a couple of picks. Suits me fine as a beginner - good action and very easy to play. And for the price I paid, it's a bargain.

Sound : 7
My style is more alternative metal and prog rock - AFI and Muse dominate my music life. Initially you realise that single-coils aren't good if you plan on heaping on the overdrive, but a little trick with Strats is to put the selector in pos. 2 or 4 for rhythm and lead respectively. This chains the single-coils together and gives basic humbucker function - sounds different to a humbucker, but that makes it unique. I generally chain the middle and neck pickups together to play lead parts and find that it sounds great - nice sharp sound from the pickups, very pronounced through the SP-10 amp. I'm waiting on a Korg 105od stomp box and a Laney HCM30R amp - linking it to these two should give a better sound, but it could pass as basic Muse level on Starlight and Time Is Running Out. Playing Killing Lights on it is great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This Strat was built in China, so it's basic. But the action is very good - very smooth, everything lined up properly. Remember I'm not the first owner - this guitar has survived another rock-obsessed teen before me and bears a few battle scars, but the axe itself is fine. The black gloss vinyl is beautiful under light - perfectly reflective, but it shows up fingerprints like a bitch! Needs regular polishing, but it's so worth it. There's a couple of chunks of the vinyl missing - clearly been dropped, but is coping well, and not really noticeable from the front. Manufacturing must have been painless, cos everything works fine.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Totally solid. Beautifully built - the build quality is easily on par with a full Fender Strat. It's been dropped at least twice by the previous owner, and I thrash it regularly when I get really into practising. The body seems indestructible - really strong, and good weight too. I've often thought of putting together a band and gigging - sure, I'd use this without a backup (only cos I don't have another electric guitar! I've been playing since Jan 2007!) The only worry I'd have is strings, but Ernie Ball's got that covered ;) The hardware's good quality, though I'd probably put hot rail pickups in for gigging, as the single coils aren't quite my style. I don't know just how tough the finish is, but I bet it'd survive the odd knock. (I'm careful with my stuff - it's the only guitar I've got, and it means so much to me that I take good care of it). Only quirk I've had is the strap falling off when I pick it up - it stays on perfectly while playing, so it's just an old strap. Buttons are solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with Squier directly, but I found their website easy to navigate. I found out about the guitar before I bought it, and found the user manual easy. No warranty to speak of, but I bet they'd help out if I needed it.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing since January 2007 on an acoustic guitar. I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to this Strat in May same year, after my guitar tutor mentioned one of his students was upgrading. I loved it the moment I saw it, bonded the moment I picked it up. So far, I've been using it straight, with the SP-10 amp, but I'm gonna have a Laney HCM30R amp with a Korg 105od distortion pedal - this thing will shake walls with power chords! I find it easy to play, and the ergonomics are awesome - it moulds straight into my lap when I sit, making practising easy. The neck's thin and easy to fret. If somebody stole it, I would wish them a slow and most painful death; failing that, I'd find them and torture them to demonstrate how much this guitar means to me. Oh, and I'm not stupid enough to lose a guitar, btw ;) I love the sound and ease of play - it's a solid guitar that will survive many years of active service. I'm gonna upgrade it when I get the opportunity with two humbucking hot rail pickups (bridge and neck), a Floyd Rose double-locking trem and maybe get a Korg 411fx. My favourite feature is just owning it - being able to play a guitar and having one that I can just work so well with. If forced to get a 'proper' guitar, I'd either have a full Fender Strat, or a Strat-styled Ibanez. It's comparable to my mate's Ibanez GSA-60, except for the humbucker, but otherwise an ideal beginner's guitar. I can see myself playing this for many years to come.

Normal, strat-like features.

Tuners are bad. The fact that the tuner that comes in the SE100 value pack (where I got this guitar) dosen't work adds to that problem.

My guitar has a maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

Sound : 8
I started playing guitar over half a year ago. I didn't really consider music styles, I just bought this because it was modelled on Fender, and I thought Fender was good. Bad mistake.

Soon after I bought the guitar I really started to like AC/DC. I also realised that most of the music wasn't suited to this guitar.

However, it has a great sound (at least as far as a beginner like me can judge) when it plays the music that its made for. Eg. Smoke on The Water.

With three pickups you can get quite a variety on sound.

I haven't used any other guitars, so I can't really comment so much on its sound compared to the industry. But, it sounds good enough for me.

Overall, its got a good sound for the price, but if you like rock music, don't buy this guitar

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar was very well set up. I haven't had to do any modifications (apart from changing strings occassionaly).

The finish is flawless, and so far it has only attracted minor scratches which are only visible from up close.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
The guitar seems very durable. I haven't had any problems with hardware, and I've hit the guitar on walls several times, but it still stands strong.

I wouldn't use it on a gig.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've had to deal with customer support when my tremelo arm got stuck in the bridge, but it wasn't the Fender customer support - I just took it to my local music shop.

Overall Rating : 7
I own no other guitars. This guitar is good for a beginner. If it were stolen, I wouldn't buy it again, I'd buy a better guitar.

The only problem is that its been half a year, and I'm already hungry for a better guitar.

Overall, this is good for its price, but if you have the money, you'll be better off getting something else.

Black Strat Copy.
It had a tremelo I think
Very light compared to a "real" strat.

I bought this on an extended business trip to the US in 1987 for about $150 with an real Strat case. Used it to plink with, and then brought it home and P/Exed it for US strat. THe case was worth a lot more than the guitar - For some reason Fender cases are overpriced here.

Sound : 6
Generally OK
Hummed like crazy, but then so does my Fender.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Pretty decent. Played well. Set up was OK. Poor quality machine heads, but again - some Fender Strats have just as bad.

Reliability/Durability : 5
I wouldn't gig ithout a backup, period. But, this is decent enough to be used as a backup.
Big advantage of owning a playable but cheap guitar is like driving a beater. You don't actually care too much.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never tried.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I've been playing 30 years, have had 3 Fender Strats, a Gibson Les Paul,
Godin LGX, Aria ProII Les Paul, Yamaha Pacifica 812, a few Acoustics and this Squier.

It's probably low on this list, but then it was bought almost as a throw-away.

What I would say is that one of my Fender Strats, a Mexican one, was certainly no better guitar - and quiote a bit more expensive.

I'd say if you can't afford a decent Fender, then while Squier are OK, there's a lot of choice out there in this price category. Personally I think Yamaha Pacificas are better as an entry level, but if you can find a decent older copy (and I think Aria ProII and Ibanez from the 70's were the amongst the best) then you'll be happier.

Squier Strat, 21 frets, red "finish" (Looks/feels like it was dipped in a vat of that wax they use to seal bottles of Makers Mark) Generic tuners, electronics. Came with a gig bag.

Sound : 5
The guitar plays well. Don't even bother with the tone knobs, they're worthless. Plugged in, it sounds like a $100 guitar. It's noisy. But its not like you are going to be gigging with it...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Finish sucks- But what do you expect for the price? The action, however, is where this guitar shines. It plays just like a Fender strat, with nice low action. It was set up well, no fret buzz anywhere. Do yourself a favor, and take the tremolo arm and throw it away. If you don't use it, the guitar will stay in tune.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've left this guitar in my car for 3 days in freezing weather, dropped it, let my 10 year old cousin use it unsupervised for a week, burnt it with a lit cigarette, and all it's ever needed was to be tuned. This guitar is a built pretty well. When you factor in price, it gets a 9.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No need. If it broke, i would just buy another.

Overall Rating : 9
You have to factor in price when considering this- it was dirt cheap. It plays like a real Strat, and it stays in tune. Personally, I think it is the perfect guitar to learn on. You don't have to drop a lot of cash, it is durable and does what it is supposed to do. The electronics are muddy, the tuners are garbage, but it stays in tune (just don't mess with the tremolo) and I got it for under $100. If someone stole it, I would laugh- imagine the effort they put into stealing a guitar they could probably only get $50 for. Price/Quality ratio, I have yet to see anything better.

Japanese Strat from 1983/84, customised with a DiMarzio humbucker in the neck position & an unbranded humbucker in the bridge position. everything else is standard.
2 tone sunburst finish & all the usual strat features.

Sound : 9
Mostly using this for blues / slide playing & rock at the moment with small amps. I have the trem blocked off with a chunk of wood.

Solid build, good wood & electrics on these old Squiers gives a very close Fender sound & great sustain. The humbuckers suit my taste although the bridge position one lacks bottom end & punchy mids. It is good for slide playing & dirty or clean blues though & the DiMarzio humbucker is very smooth. Also, mixing the middle single-coil with either humbucker gives a delicate, almost acoustic tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
A poor score here mainly due to the hatchet job the previous owner did while customising the guitar. The neck will go out of position if it gets a solid knock, probably due to the number of times it's been removed. The scratchplate is a nasty 1 ply white plastic affair, badly cut to accomodate humbuckers & with very few screws holding it in place. The body has been crudely routed & the electrics were a mess when I first got it.

On the positive side:
Hard laquer, quality wood, excellent neck profile, super low action (currently raised a little for sliding), quality electrics (after a little rewiring) & hardware.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It's been dropped, thrown, stamped on, had a hardcase dropped on it, covered in stickers, covered in Beer & sweat etc...
...basically every situation you can imagine during my teenage years. It survived beautifully & has only a scattering of chips & cracks. A very tough guitar. I had to replace the bridge saddles after allowing them to rust because I never cleaned it & the nut was raised due to wear & tear. Thats it! The frets & neck are showing some age & wear but there's still loads of life in the old dog.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 8
My 1st guitar & therefore has sentimental value & is irriplaceable. Had it for 12 years. I'd definately get another Jap Strat if I lost it though. Seriously, these are better than the vast majority of Fenders out there. You need a good USA Fender to find higher all round quality.

Buy one now if you can! The prices are just beginning to creep up on these early 80's squiers as they are getting collectable. You still see some in pawn shops / second hand stores for bargain prices though.

Squier standard stratocaster with maple neck. Nice 2 tone sunburst. Neck is way off, partly fixed that with truss rod adjustment. Horrible tremolo, it takes the guitar 5 minutes to get back in tune after use. It looks nice though...

Sound : 2
Thin, buzzy, treblish-one of the worst sounding electrics I ever did play. Strumming a chord is even worse than playing single notes. Chords sound like 10 differently tuned guitars playing at the same time. Pickups are so bad I can't find a word for it. This guitar plays better unplugged than plugged in and still sounds so bad it's useless.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
Action is crap, but can be adjusted. Finish is allright and it looks nice. Frets are way too small and harsh.

Playing for 20 years. This guitar is terrible. Buy a mexican Fender, it's 10 times better and at least it's usable. I own or have owned at least 15 guitars, all in the above 700$ price range. Bought this as a jam session guitar, but sold it straight away. I bet there's better guitars out there for 250$, but I won't ever take my chances again. Fortunately I sold mine, but if it was stolen I'd pitty the guy who did it. Yes, it's so bad...

It's a black strat with white pickguard. It was built in the US in 1989, and I bought it new for 500 dollars in 1990.
It has gotoh style tuner, maple neck, and all the rest is a mistery.
The setup is a standard 3 single coils strat and the usual strat controls.
Materials used are all good quality. The electronics are low standard.

Sound : 4
I play Goth Rock, and, I looked for a guitar that would deliver good clean tones for me to "ruin" with a little overdrive.
Well, the tone was clean, but, too much on the trebble side, and, strange enough, with very soft atack. Not the twang I was expecting to hear.
The sound was also afected by too much noise by any standard, always humming, and I later found out why. For some reason there is no shielding anywhere around the circuit.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
The wood work and finish are very good. After 16 years the paint has no cracks the neck is still in top shape, and the hardware has only minor spots of rust, mostly on springs and screws.
I don't like the neck, never did. It's a bit too thin, and for some complex chord playing as I used it for, it requires a lot of efford on the fingers. But, this is part of the design, I just didn't consider it before buying the guitar, and I regret it.
As for the string action, I used to play with 08s and it rattled a bit, and when I moved to 09s and 10s the bridge almost jumped out. Adjusting the truss rod made no difference with the 08s, and reseting the tremolo springs didn't do much with the 10s.
Even from the store it came with the bridge "jumping" out with the string tension.

Reliability/Durability : 5
This guitar has suffered in my hands for 16 years, gigged with it, carried it all around, all sorts of punishment and it still looks as good as new on the wood parts. No paint cracks, no mechanical problems. Excelent. But all the screw rusted within the first 2 years of use, and that was just the beggining.
The electronics, on the other hand didn't even last 1 year before I had to start fixing things... Pots and the knob sounded like fried potatoes cracking when you used them, the hum never gone away, even with combined PUs in the selector, and with the hands on the strings or bridge. I had to improvise some shielding, and replace circuit wires that cracked, replace the PU selector (just stoped working), and finaly decided to buy all the electronics, new and rebuild everything.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No contact with them...

Overall Rating : 5
I play for 18 years now, and have had this guitar for 16 years.
If it were stolen I'd buy something else. There are better single coil sounds out there. Even within the same price tag! I just didn't realize it when I bought it. I have to say I love the woods used, and the flexibility of the PU cavity being a big flat hole, which allowed be to rebuild it as I wished. The neck works better with 09s or 10s strings, but, it needed to have 2 extra springs attached to the tremolo.
I own this unit, along with an Epiphone LesPaul Custom.
For effects I use a GT-6. I have a Marshall JCM-900 1945 Dual Reverb, and a Marshall 1936 cabinet. And a Sennheiser e606 mic for recordings.

21 frets, 5 way tone selector, Rosewood neck, and a tremelo bar. I got the package deal that came with a tuner that enjoys breaking, a terrible amp, and some headphones. A great setup for when I first started and didn't know what a pull off was but I found it lacking around 6 months after purchase.

Sound : 6
I play primarily 80s metal(Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Scorpians), industrial metal(Ministry, Skinny Puppy),a bit of thrash(Slayer), classic rock(Deep Purple, Black Sabbath), and some gothic rock(Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy). It had an OK sound when I didn't know any better and first started learning, though I've found it lacking because I've been unable to get a decent, full sound out of it.

The E string and A string buzz on it, particularly between the 3rd and 9th fret. As well it doesn't have the "heavy" sound I'm looking for now that I know what I'm doing.

I'm still using the horrid 5 watt amp that came with the guitar, the one that picks up radio signals and can oftentimes I cannot hear what I'm playing over the static, expecially with distortion. I would get a new AMP but I'm saving up for a new guitar that will, hopefully last me longer than this one.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
I needed the action lowered asap due to it being nearly impossible for a bigginer like myself to play. After a friend told me how hard it was to play I brought it into the shop and had it adjusted which help a huge deal.

Despite my best efforts the cord imput keeps coming loose along with the screw on it. Before I start practicing I need to tighten everything. I actually find myself looking for a screw driver before even thinking of grabbing a pick.

Reliability/Durability : 4
I've never played live so I don't know about all that, though I wouldn't take this guitar live even if I did.

My tremelo bar is bent and slightly broken after a few hours of use; the cord imput is sketchy at best, if I move it will stop working. I've dropped my guitar because of the strap buttons coming off. My pick guard is scatched up from me trying to thrash, I guess that's why they call it a guard. The strings go out of tune after about twenty minutes of solid playing, and they break constantly, granted this could be from the thrashing.

If I had to play live, this guitar would be my backup's backup's backup. Even then I'd see if anyone in the audience had one I could borrow for the set.

I've been playing for ten months, about four hours a day. I recieved this guitar as a gift when I made an off hand comment that I'd like to learn to play, but I wish I could have had a chance to try out other bigginer's guitars but I wouldn't know what to look for. If it was stolen I'd use that as a very good excuse to get a new one. I really do love this guitar in all its shoddy glory because I learned how to play on it and I've done so a lot in a short amount of time.

I've played other guitars: an gibson SG, a BC Rich Warlock, and a real Fender Strat. All of them felt better than my squier, but they were also about 200-700 dollars more than my squier. The old addage is true, you get what you pay for.

My advice, if you play guitar aleady, don't buy it, get something better. If your getting this for someone who has never picked up a guitar before it's perfect because it's cheap, it plays OK, and if you get the package deal everything you need is inluded. Though if you do get it for someone as a gift you can expect one of two things, either they stop playing after a month and you've just saved a bundle on expensive guitars or two they're going to want a better guitar in about a year which fine and dandy as long as they play.

Same things as you might find on a normal strat, a bit cheaper pickups but that's really all. I switched the neck for a lefty fender neck ( Hendrix!!!!!), and it plays on.

Sound : 9
Sounds fine for what I use it for. i use this for everything as it is my only elctric. it handles those sounds good. Roll off neck tone for jazz, bridge for country, middles for Funk and Tool's clean tones. It gives a fat sound on some settings and thin in others. It is good. I can get maybe 4 different sounds out of it, before you get into the tone knobs. I'm using a big yellow digitech distortion and a weeping demon wah into a Fender princeton chorus my dad got from one of his coworkers when he went acoustic. Sounds phenomenal with that setup. you can't really go wrong unless you are looking for shred tones. You won't find em. Thank god I'm not a yngwie disciple or else i would hate this rig. everything is there, all you need to rock.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I've had it for a while, so I can't remember how it was set up, though it must have been good because once i got it I played from when I got it to when I had to go to jazz camp that morning. Likewise, I do not rember how the pickups were adjusted as I change them a lot, you know, raise one for this gig, lower another, vice versa. The wood is OK, but not stellar. The only finish flaws I came across was spots where my arm was against it after a year of devoted playing. The hardware was a bit rusty as I had bought it used, but that doen'st matter to me unless I seem to need a tetanus shot every gig. then I have a problem. Only Flaws. the neck comes out of the pocket a tad when you play heavy guage strings. This is not a SR Vaughanabee's axe, 11s are the max. I tried 12s for a more 50s vintage blues sound, the body and neck satrted to resemble a banana. I use 10s and they work out fine.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Yeah, I would gig it w/o a backup. All you need to do is screw in the strap pin tight before each show and you should be fine. Finish is thin but I like it that way. The hardware will last longer than many of my relationships will, and it overall seems pretty damn solid

I haven't had any real trouble I couldn't fix.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for five years and I've had it for 3. I'm 15 and I play in wherever will let me in and play. i also play with guys around town and at dances. I have played school talent shows and do comedy and writing as well. I have a used takamine I got early last year and it plays real good. If it were stolen, I'd probably get a diferent one. It's nice, but something with more of a jazz pedigree would be in order. I wish it had those dimarzio stack coils to stop that damned hum. I like the distorted tone in those settings, but all you hear then is BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ under it. I got a sweet deal for $89

I have a Japenese Squier which I use live with a fender princeton amp and usually a pod with a foot controller. I bought it as I play a wide range of music and I find it very versatile.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought it used and had to do a bit of adjusting on the neck but everything else is ok

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar gets some serious abuse and it keeps on taking it & I never have to worry about loss or damage as it is not valuable and would be easily replaced although I've grown quite attached to it and I love the fact that I am doing most of my gigging with a guitar that cost ??100.

Customer Support : No Opinion
bought it used so no experience in this area.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 25 years and own a gibson les paul, and an epiphone sheraton both of which are rarely played whilst i play the squier every day. If it were stolen or lost I would buy another one definitley buy another although it would have to be JAPENESE as I've played the Korean ones and I wouldn't touch one of those

Features : 1
left-handed
3-single coils
5-way selector
2 tone, 1 volume
poorly assembled bridge
right-handed, poorly fitting trem arm
fat and lopsided neck
unlaminated
made in indonesia

Sound : 4
Very weak pickups. Impossible to fingertap. No difference in tone adjustment, very little sound variety.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
Guitar is left-handed and made in Indonesia. Black sparkle finish. White pickguard. One of the tone knobs was never connected at all. Came with an ill fitting right handed trem from a Fender which neither fender nor squire could properly finish. Horrible action and intonation. Cracked neck at the 13th fret. goes out of tune at the 14th. Tuners are horrible. The neck is very thick and uneven which is horrible since my fingers are small and more suited for a duosonic or a jaguar.

Reliability/Durability : 3
This guitar needs a backup. Electrical and tuning problems are constant. Can hold out but it's best to keep a screw driver, soddering iron, and several strings a foot away at all times.

Customer Support : 1
No warranty available. Needed extensive repair because it was never wired properly and the tone knobs were never wired at all. Squire could never provide a proper trem bar since their lefties were wired at a different gauge from righties which they have conveniently stopped making.

Overall Rating : 1
This was my first electric and i've been playing it for about 6 years. I've put up with it simply because the industry discriminates against lefties and basically charges huge markups for poorly assembled pieces of crap like this (up to 400%). I generally play it through a cheap Crate GFX amp of some make with a Danelectro delay, boss ds-1, ibanez flange, digitech death metal, and digitech multichorus. great effects, horrible guitar. Basically, I should have sued Squire or Fender for false advertisement, misleading statements, and discrimination.

It's strat body, maple wood neckboard. Five way pickup selector. Three single coils. I thinking it is mexican. 21 frets. The rest is just standard strat. The frets are too close together. I don't like rosewood necks.

Sound : 5
They're is some hum if you use the neck pickup. Though the sound is metallic dud sound that no one could like. The only thing that makes it even ok is about between the fifth and tweleith fret on the e b and g string is clean and nice. When playing chords even at a gently strum it sounds like someone is beating the crap out of it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action is way too low (for me) and if you play it like a normal peson you come down with too much force the string will bend or make a bad hammer on tone.

Reliability/Durability : 6
The input jack dies about every month and a half. Everything else I have no problem with beside the tuning machines. Very often when making the slightest tuning the string will become disalinged and slip oout of the nut and drop in tuning.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I haven't tried

Overall Rating : 4
I have been more than a year, the guitar came in the se-100 strat pack. It came with the Sp-10 amp. The tuner's input jack on it dosen't work sometimes, the mic isn't the most reliable and even with the cable the tuner sometimes dosen't work. Strap tore in about a month. Cable went out about 2 months. Gig bag ( I don't use it often) is ripped to shreds. I like the clean jazz like tones you can get on the the three bottom strings between the fifth and twelevth fret. I hate the feel of the fretboard, the extremly low action and the sound. I give it this low rating due to all the said above combined.

Black finish, white pickguard, three single coils, toggle switch, volume and two tone knobs. Has a trem bridge that works alright, but goes way out of tune with much use.

Sound : 5
Not as bad as some beginner guitars I've played, but I don't like its sound much. The clean is ok, but it's not capable of producing a nice lead tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
No real flaws that I found.

Reliability/Durability : 7
My only complaint is the input jack, which comes loose after a while, and is a pain to screw back in.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
I've been playing a few years. This was my first guitar, and I run it through a Fender Stage 100 solid state amp. I wouldn't buy it again if it was lost or stolen.

Again, it's not a bad guitar for a beginner, but it won't fulfill your needs once you get better.

Made in 2002, my USA strat has 21 easily reachable frets (well, being a single cutaway strat shape, the high frets on the E,A and D strings are a little tricky to reach when playing but not impossible). It has a nice black satin lacquer which has a few chips but only what you could expect from 3 year's regular transit. There is a volume pot, 2 tone pots, a 5 way pickup selector, and a tremolo arm. The whammy bar works ok but can knock it right out of tune as there are no locking tuners. There are 3 single coil pickups (The factory pickups are quite noisy, I was considering putting some EMG buckers in there). The electronics are passive. Not sure what the wood is, but I took the scratchplate off to have a look around, and the wood looks like MDF! so not great sustain. The fretboard is rosewood but I have a friend who has it in maple, so there IS a choice. I bought this as part of a pack when i first started playing, it contained the guitar iteslf, a fender frontman 15G amp, a lead, a plectrum and a 'get started' video.

Sound : 6
I loved this guitar as a beginner. Up until about 6 months ago I used it through the practice amp that it came with (Fender Frontman 15G) but then I needed to buy a proper amp to be heard over my drummer, so I got a line 6 hd75 head and an ashdown fallen angel 4x12 cab, which makes the strat sound just lovely. However, I dont think the sound is very full, this may be because i use super slinkys and need to get a thicker guage, but upgrading the single coils to humbuckers really would make the difference i think. The Squier can produce a fairly pleasing distortion, and makes an ok rhythm or lead, it is very versatile. It has a nice shimmering clean sound, not as good as the SG i played in my local music shop a few months ago, but it is sure good enough for a beginner.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The strat came in perfect working order. The intonation was perfect, the strings were even in tune! It came exactly as I had ordered it (I bought it off the net) with the right finish and fretboard wood. There were NO flaws in it (for a squier) except the pickup selector does make a slight clicking noise through the amp when it is adjusted, and recently the volume pot has started rustling when it is turned, I will have to look at the circuitry. The action is very low with no fret buzz. The jack socket is very sturdy and has never caused me problems.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I have used this guitar at band practise and it has never let me down. I would use it as a backup at a gig but not as my main guitar as it doesnt sound nice enough. It is very rugged and durable. The finish is immensely hard to remove. Only a heavy collision with something hard can chip it. The strap buttons are solid and do not move at all. The scratchplate does crack a little, but this may be because of over-tightened screws.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 7
This guitar is a good little axe. I love the versatility and the durability. Please note: This is a BEGINNER'S GUITAR and does NOT match the sound of a real fender. If you've just started playing or are perhaps looking for your second guitar but are on a tight budget, this is a good guitar. You can do what you want with it without having to worry about it falling apart.

Black finish, No pick guard, 3 mini toggless for each pickup. Brige humbucker, and two single coils. Cable plugs in bottom. Made in Japan and E-serial number. Black head stock with white/silver text.
Bridge with wammy bar. Looks like mahogny neck wood.

Crome tuners by Fender.
Fairly Thin neck. 22 frets.
Original hard case.

Sound : 8
Fat humbucking sound.
Bright single coil sound, but not the typical Fender sound.
Broad range of sounds possible with three mini toggles, one for each pick-up.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Well adjusted pick-ups and no flaws in the finish.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Really suprising good playablility and durability. I've owned the guitar for 15 years and I guess it was built about 1982 based on feedback from previous owner. It still looks fairly new.
