made 2001 in China. Solid top (what a waste!) copy of a Yamaha APX, gloss finish, rubber covered piezo pick-up and ear-ache inducing pre-amp.

The pre-amp has been upgraded on new ones, and Hanks were selling this cheap as a result. It's awful. You can't plug it in, it'll hurt anyone listening. My Tanglewood was the same price, so it should have been better. Also, acoustically even with Elixirs on it sounds absolutely dead. Why waste solid wood?
Action, Fit, & Finish

Finish is poor - you can see it's all uneven. Action is a quarter of an inch at the 12th fret.
Reliability/Durability

I suppose if you put really light strings on it and have an amazingly expensive amp and p.a. it would be okay.

EMD - awful. They just try to wriggle out of any responsibility. This guitar was damp damaged, as the pre-amp was full of corrosion and the truss rod was seized up. I'm imagining that SOMEBODY sold it to Hamnks in a funky "Let's screw the tourists in London manner".

It shows that sometimes a better made laminate top guitar is preferable.
