sounds below average with original strings, a couple of dead spots. the pickup is surprisingly good for a passive piezo one.
Action, Fit, & Finish

the action is pretty low for a 12-string but the nut is bad, the frets aren't levelled properly, there are a couple of dead spots, the inlays are very badly set in, with ugly traces of glue on the fretboard. more traces of glue on and in the body.

i don't think the guitar would withstand any live playing, it looks and feels very fragile

I've been playing for three years and I own about 8 different guitars and this one is nearly the worst guitar I ever have played. It is so bad that i have given it away a month after I have bought it.
About the only halfway decent thing about the guitar was the pickup.
Have bought this guitar because of the good reviews on harmony central, maybe the others had more luck with the guitar.
If you really have to buy this guitar, don't buy it by mail order, try it out first in the shop, otherwise you could be very disappointed - I was.

Sounds awesome after a change of strings. Not bad out of box but still absolutely awesome sounding pick up. Not at all noisy.
I record into a Soundcraft M8 Mixer then into my M-audio 1010lt soundcard into cubase sx and this works a dream using either my Oktava Mk 319 or Akg c100s.
Live i use a marshal amp plugged direct into the output
I love the sound of this guitar

The action rocks for a 12 string, I wouldnt say the fret board is any wider than my normal acoustic and the action is very nice. Quick neck. No attention need to any frets or hardware. Lovely action and finish for the price

Think the hardware will last.

It sounds nice warm.Warmer than the "real" ovation. That is to say;after a few weeks.
This guitar really needs to be played to come loose. When I first bought it the sound was less balanced than now (after 2,5 months.
I've tried it amplified with a GT5 over Behringer Truth's and with a bit eq. at 1khz(-4db)and a bit limiter it was just perfect! No need for active electronics.

Well ,here's the not-so-good part.
Factory strings were bad.The topnut needed to be sawn in for proper action. There were a few laquer drops on the side of the body-bindings (though the neck and top were perfectly finished)(removed them with a file and sandpaper) and the pin-holes in the bridge were too deep for 3 strings so I had to remount them with a piece of paper between pin and hole when changing strings.Cheap decorations around the soundhole(plastic, mounted with double sided tape)
But than again;
The neck was perfectly straight and the action is a dream now.Plays very light.Top properly bookmatched.
The intonation is perfect also.Chords above the 12th pos. together with loose strings sound perfect.
It seems Stagg paid a lot attention to what is essential (e.g. neck finish-good pickup) but not to things of minor interest for sound and playability.

I haven't had it long enough to say something sensible about durability. What i did see at the music shop was another Stagg with damaged finish at the headstock where it was hanged (in rubber) so the neckfinish isn't the best around.
Strap buttons seem solid (screwn in thick plastic body).
I would use it without backup.(though for the rediculous price you could buy another to bring along -in black finish for example)

I play since 32 years.Own a Roland strat, a Hanika classical, some Shergolds, self build Explorer and double neck bass/guitar, Rick 4003.
Gallien Krueger 2100sel, VG8,Sansamp bassdriverDI.enz.
I would definitely buy another if it was lost/stolen.
I love the playability (after a few adjustments),the sound , the wide neck which suits my gorilla-hands, and the (certainly for a 12 string)perfect intonation.
I hate the cheap soundhole-decoration.
But overall,for this price? it's a steal!
