Stagg G300GBK (Les Paul Gothic Copy.

Not sure what year it was made, I assume 05 or 06. Import SG copy probably made in China. 2 Humbuckers, Matte Black Finish, Kluson Style tuners etc.,etc. It's all your standard SG Stuff.

Sound : 8
This is where it gets interesting. The guitar looks Metal but, it's more suited for rock or blues? For $400 CDN it sound great once setup. Every bit as good as an Epi and in my opinion it's better built. The epiphones flex when you play them, takes barely any movement to use the neck as a whammy bar on an SG 400. The stagg doesn't do this and it's a cheaper guitar...

Through my Marshall S80 this guitar is very versitile. I play a bit of everything. For everyone complaining about the pickups.. They are a bit muddy when you have your and volume pots wide open. Most guitars are. The volume and tone controls are there for a reason, roll off some volume and tone and use your amp!! It surprises me how many people don't do this then upgrade/waste money on lower output pickups and think the world of them! Roll back the volume, you'll be surprised!! A good example of this is A person unfamilar with a telecaster.. most plug them in and crank the volume then say the guitar is twangy/bright/piercing to the ears and such. An experienced Telecaster player usually runs his volume at 75% full not 100%.. Experiment before writing bogus reviews please,

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Over all it's decent, the frets are a little small for a guitar that looks this "Metal" ..I would have liked to see Jumbo's.. instead these are more like a vintage strat fret..

Take the time and setup your intonation you would be surprised what it can do for how a guitar sounds guys.. also set your pickup height to something that is balanced.. let them breath but, not to much.. Don't peg your pickups into the strings! There's no tone there, somewhere between low and high is usually best on all guitars..

One thing I do not like are the pickup covers, they are effin' sharp! the corners are like razors.

Over all it's good for the money and easily comparable or better than an epi SG.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I'd gig with, once setup preoperly it's fairly reliable.. like any guitar..

The music stores should offer lessons onteaching people how to maintain and setup their instruments or do it for them when they purchase one. People bring home these mass produced guitars that have barely had a human hand laid on them in the factory and expect them to play like a guitar that has been taken off the line and setup in the factory.. fender/gibson?

Point being.. buy a guitar with a solid build and spend the time setting it up.. as long as it doesn't flex or have the worst of the worst parts it can be reworked to play properly.. Most of our import guitar now days are very playable if you take a little time.

Good luck to all!

A Stagg G300 SG copy, made in China in 2008. I got mine in red finish with a stop bar tailpiece and it has a set in neck with 22 frets. Neck it is fairly mid range not too thick and wide or too thin and narrow. 2 Volume and 2 Tone controls for pickups. Made out of Mahogany wood for both neck and body. I got this because one I was desperate for an SG with a set neck at a decent price and two then owner of the music store told me Staggs were good guitars for the price.

Sound : 10
It suits my style of music very well, which is rock, blues and metal. The sound out of this guitar sounds the same as a real SG, as I have played an SG Special Faded in store but couldn't get it because of price. It sounds brighter in pitch than the Maestro Les Paul copy I have (check the review for it under the Maestro section here at Harmony-Central).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got this brand new in store and the guys at the Music Loft in Carrboro set it up very well. No adjustments needed. As for the action, it is very fast and the neck is medium width, which is smaller than most Les Pauls.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Another reason why I got this guitar because it seemed durable and hard to break. It feels heavier than a real SG, for the SG Special I played in the store was light in weight. If I played it live I would totally depend on it. The only fault would be the strap buttons because they seem small for the size but I bought strap locks for them, so no points taken off for that

Never dealt with and I don't know how long the warranty is.

I have been playing for the past 5 years. This the third SG guitar I've owned, the other two being a Silvertone Rockit SG and the Epiphone G310 that I owned a couple of years back and slew of other guitars I've owned over the years, most of them fat Strat copies and Les Paul copy which I intend to sell once I finish paying for it.

No idea when guitar was made. I have a black version with no hole below the bridge. I replaced the strings and pickups. I replaced the older strings (no idea what kind, they we're just really bad though), with PRS strings which sound great on any guitar especially this one. Heavy gauge recommended. Pickups we're changed to humbuckers. The older pickups couldn't quite handle harmonics yet we're good with low end roar, which was amazing for rhythm. Now the guitar sounds like an SG with a Les Paul haha! The whammy bar is awesome, and looks cool, does the job. The guitar looks really good, and very suited to metal and rock, which is great. The guitar however is a NIGHTMARE to re-string. Every time a string breaks...i feel dread in myself. Re-stringing is fairly difficult on this guitar and very annoying also. Only real downfall of it.

Sound : 9
When i first got guitar, it didn't sound great at all. It sounded messy, horrible and very dull. However, once i set up this guitar, it sounded AMAZING. It truly sounded like whan an SG should be. This guitar is deffo best suited with distortion for playing rock and upwards. Wouldn't advise using it for blues, jazz, ect. Sounds great both for lead and rhythm. Tone is very good, once you adjust it to your likings. Best suited with Drop D also haha. I play rock and metal, this guitar does the job well and sounds great now. Very good presence when used with the right settings and equipment. Not so great on harmonics however but it can get by. The pickups aren't to amazing, so i recommend replacing them with humbuckers. Then it'll sound amazing. I'm rating it for how it sounded once set up, AKA, WITHOUT changes in hardware, and with all original bits.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar wasn't set up well, and it needed lots of work when i received it. The action was horribly high, the bridge was not levelled correctly. This is probably only in some cases, but i wasn't too pleased. Once the guitar is set up fully though, it sounds great and when you upgrade it with some better parts, you'll be flying around the stage with a great sounding axe.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The guitar structure is strong, it's withstood live playing countless times and the hardware has stayed strong. Yet i replaced the original hardware so i can't completely know how good it is. The finish lasts well, i have the black version, and i only have a few minor scratches on this guitar on the back, probably from my belt or something. Never had any problems with original strap buttons. Very dependable guitar. Very good for a back-up guitar or even main guitar. Only down's on it's reliability is that it comes out of tune sometimes, only a little bit, yet it's very annoying. Recommend replacing machine heads, which i probably will do too. I would use this guitar in a small-medium gig without back-up probably.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with customer support
I have had to repair it once though. I left my guitar upright once, and it fell backwards and because the headstock is quite far back, it cracked the back of my guitar neck. Yet, the strength of the neck is impressive, it only left a very small crack which was good. This was repaired by me and it worked superbly still after.

Overall Rating : 8
I've played for 3 years, and i have played on a Fender Telecaster before and a Fender Stratocaster. Of course, this guitar doesn't match up to those guitars for tone, playability and general standards. This guitar sure would be better for a metal player or a rhythm guitarist. It sounds crunchy and very impressive once upgraded with better pickups and strings. This guitar would be recommnded if you are upgrading from your first-second guitar or if you require a backup guitar. If this guitar got stolen, i would probably buy an Ibanez or Jackson. Yet, if i had a low budget, i'd happily buy this guitar again. I love the sound of it (especially once upgraded), the look is very good and the whammy bar!!. The only real thing i hate about the guitar is re-stringing it, which is an absolute nightmare. I wish it had better pickups however when you first buy it, as they aren't great.

Same features as every other stagg g300. Cherry Red.

Sound : 2
I play mostly folk/medieval/renaissance music and also gothic/power/symphonic metal and hard'n heavy. also play worship music in my church.

I'm using Peavey 112 bandit (at home - that is the only place where I can play with this piece of wood...), A lot of distortion pedals (Metal Muff, Vox Bulldog, Marshall Jackhammer, etc), boss dd-6, dd-3, ce-5, danelectro Milkshake chorus, Etc.

The sound actually is horrible. It's flat and very cheap. The stock pickups are completely useless. I changed them to Seymour Duncans (sh-4 and sh-6) to see how much can I get out of this guitar. Of course it sounded much better, but the guitar is a piece of..., so I took out those Duncans and replaced them to Diesel MetalShred (bridge) and Emg designed ibanez humbucker (neck). Now it is 5 times better than the stock setup was, but still - the only thing I can do with it is a little bit of practice at home, because the guitar itself is horrible.

Another stupid thing is that the neck bended down after just about 6 months of playing. I feel like I'm holding a bow in my hands, while playing :D too bad that the "Stagg" company didn't include some arrows in the set.

The stock pickups are terrible and I would give the guitar itself just 0,5 points, but the replaced pickups (i replaced them myself) are a LOT better and at least I can use this guitar for practicing, so I give itself 2. With better pickups It sounds a bit better also. at least you can feel a bit of mahogany (is it really made of mahogany? why should "stagg" ruin this kind of wood!?!?! :D)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
Actually this is the most terrible thing I have seen in my life. All the hardware is screwed completely without any accuracy, the quality is VERY poor...

The only thing that I liked about this guitar was the tuners. at least they do what they have to do and hold the tuning pretty well. I am wondering if the "stagg" haven't make a mistake setting so good tuners in this guitar, because everything else is completely useless...

Even the pickup rings are screwed oblique. terrible...

Reliability/Durability : 1
It's NOT reliable. So I wouldn't play with it. I wouldn't even take it as the backup guitar on tour, because it's horrible. The finish is worn off in just a half of year of playing... Is it normal? NO! :D

I definitely wouldn't depend on it..., because EVERYTHING is out of tune! :D

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't care about the customer service or some kind of warranty, because "Stagg" couldn't give me anything better than this.

Overall Rating : 1
I'm playing about 2 years for now And have owned a LOT of instruments from Gibson, Ibanez, ESP LTd, and I make guitars and other instruments myself, so I know quite much about instruments.

I got this guitar from a friend who actually changed it to 2 danelectro miniDJ effect pedals which I didn't like. It was just about 70$, so I'm not so sad about it.

The only thing which is good about this guitar is that It's so BAD and CHEAP that I can take it out in the nature - while hiking and play it with friends around the campfire... and after some songs use it as a piece of wood and burn it. :) but maybe it doesn't even burn?!?! who knows... ;D

ATTENTION: I got it just because I read reviews about this guitar and they were quite good, but you really shouldn't buy this guitar! All those review writers don't know anything about guitar playing or they are completely beginners, so DON'T TRUST REVIEWS!

If it were stolen or lost I wouldn't care about it. If You want a really good and cheap guitar, buy something from AGILE or SX - they're really good brands for low prices. And the quality is 2 times the money.

passive pickups 2 humbuckers sealed.
rosewood fret board
jumbo frets
mahoganybody and neck

Neck is a fat 50's stlye neck
alien crop circles designs for the fret inlays
kluson type tuners

This is a great guitar for the money. An obvious copy of the gibson sg gothic. Flat black finsh. This guitar can produce the same sounds as a gibson sg special and a standard. This is a very sweet sounding guitar, even the stock pickups sounded pretty good with no feedback. However the electronics are noisy and are not american made and would suggest changing them out to american made perferably CTS 500k pot,but the sound produced is nice and warm,Very beefy and resonant pluged in. It is also very resonant by itself.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action was a bit high for me so I lowerd and and had to adust the truss rod due to buzzing but the adjustment to the truss rod took care of that. If you dont know how to adjust the truss, I would suggest not to mess with it and have a guitar tech do it.There are some flaws on this guitar particualy the finish. The is finish flaws here and there but nothing crazy but could of done a better job. What do you expect from a chinese sweat mill. But I have seen way crappier. The fretboard definatly needed some lemon oil. The fret board looked dried and pale. Lemon oil will definatly bring the life and shine to the fret board and will prevent dryng and cracking due to tempature change. The frets however were really nice and rounded off and filed correctly and not half ass. The nut is a typcal cheap aftermaket but does the job.I reccomend a graphite nut.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I do belive this guitar would withstand playing live. It is a heavy for a sg copy but lighter than a les paul. But I would recomend changing, the electronics perferably the pots, and the nut and the pickups, And you will have a kick ass guitar. I love the neck on this. It is almost like holding a baseball bat. It is the fatest neck on a sg copy I have ever played. I fell in love with this one. I hate the slim taper necks they feel really cheap to me. I wish gibson would put fatter necks on the sg's and not cater to the slim taper crowd. Slim taper necks in the most part sucks. But offer's easy playabilty on a longer playing gig.

I have playing for 17 years and I have played and owned alot of guitars in my time. I own a gibson sgx. a gibson sg-1 and a whole of other guitars to name.I would say this does compare to a gibson sg as far as sound goes. This is better than the light weight crap that epiphone puts out, but I would say the overall value for 200.00 for a set neck sg copy is well worth the price. I am very pleased with this guitar.

Not sure of date of country or origin. 22 frets. 2 volume and 2 tone for each humbucker. 3 way selector. Pickups are not named. it is a glued neck. matt black. similar shape the the gibson sg.

Sound : 6
It is ok for most sounds from heavy metal with added distortion to blues style. Yet the clean tone lacks but that cant be helped as it doesnt have a single coil. it crackles a bit when switching between pickups, and the frets buzzed crazily until i raised the action.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
the action was nice and low yet most of the frets buzzed so i was unfortuantely forced to higher the action. trhe pickups also needed to be lowed as they were too close to the strings. the only problem with the finish is that fingerprints show up very well but that is unavoidable.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I believe this guitar couild withstand a live gig and as yet i have not broken any strings, so it would be ok to gig.

the hardware will last long enough until you get another guitar mayeb 2-3 years, but for the price i wouldnt expect any more.

the finish will probably stay around for many years as i play mine very much and no scratches or wear have apeared.

the strap buttons look as if they are metal yet they are plastic, but seem very solid and havent yet snapped or split.

I think i could depend on this guitar to perform yet as always no guitar is good enough to gig without a backup as strings dont always last.

Customer Support : No Opinion
i have never had to deal with the company, and if i did i wouldnt know where to get hold of them as i bought it from my local guitar shop.

Overall Rating : 7
I have been playing nearly a year now and have a lame amp so this guitar hasnt had full use of its capabilities but i am sure it would sound great for the price on a better amp. If it was stolen or lost i would gladly spend the money on some other guitar, mainly as i have got the fun out of this guitar and i dont believe it offers any more. the money would help buy a better amp or guitar. I previously owned a westfield les paul copy, it was the same price and they both seemed equal for value for money and quality. But i would much have an ibanez as they last much longer and are very nice guitars

this g300 gothic finish mat black, was made in 2004 in japan i recon, 22 frets, solid top 3 way selecter 2 humbuckers, own brand i think, mahogany gleud neck, it has an SG body with a slight modifacation on the bottom, stop tailpiece bridge, its neck is real nice not too fat not too thin, it came with a cable and a pick (el cheapo)

Sound : 8
it suits my style perfect rough when i play my screamo/post hardcore parts and smooth when i play my emo parts, although it buzzes a bit on my 12th fret but im sure with a little neck setting, i love the pick scrapes, but i dont like my palm mutes on some parts espeasicly in full distortion.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
i think they did a great job for a not hand built guitar,
pick ups were perfect the second time i got it because the first time i broke my 3 way, (to rough?)

Reliability/Durability : 9
im sure it will hold on gigs, it looks like it came of the tree this way with its beatifull black finish, the strap ons are a little scetchy though,

they were terrific they gave me a brand new one when the first one broke!

playing 3 years, if it was stolen id probaly by a red one or a les paul because i love variaty, i wish i didnt have that adjustment on the bottom :( beacause then it would look even better as an epi
