This is a post-gibson steinberger, but before Gibson made steinberger into a cheap guitar. It has 24-frets, EMG pick-ups in a H-S-H configuration with coil tap, 5-way selector, Trans-trem tremolo, headless graphite neck and active electronics. This is one of the steinbergers with the strat like body made of mahogany, mine is white with a black neck. The guitar came with a gig bag.

I play mostly alternative but I have been trained in both classical and jazz. This guitar can scream and whisper depending on what you want it to do. I run it through a G-K ML/E, with an RP-12 and vox wah in the effects loop and 2 2x12 cabinets. There is nothing that this guitar can't play or emulate.

This guitar was perfect out of the box.

I work this guitar hard, it's my workhorse whether playing live, practicing or in the studio. The only problem I have had is that the strap has come off the strap buttons while playing live. This won't be a problem if you're stationary unlike me who is all over the stage. The only other guitar I have is for alternate tunings so I don't have to worry about it live otherwise I use this guitar without a back-up.

With Gibson buying steinberger and moving them all around the country it was difficult to get my warranty card to them (I believe I had to send it three different times). Other than that I've never dealt with them, but I have a bad feeling considering what Gibson reduced these guitars to. I have e-mailed Gibson's site (Musicyo) with questions and they have gotten back to me quickly but I still have a bad feeling if something were to go really wrong.

If this guitar were stolen I would be on e-bay trying to buy another one (unfortunately they don't make the good ones anymore). The only problems I have with this guitar are:
1) It is heavy after a three hour practice you definitely can feel it.
2) To get to the battery for the active electronics you need to unscrew the back plate, I worry that after enough times I will eventually strip the screws.
3) As time goes by it is getting harder to find strings (last time I ordered them it took three months before they arrived).
With this nit-picking aside this is a beautiful guitar. The double-ball system makes string changing a quick and painless activity (I remember the days of the Floyd Rose bridges all too well). If you can find one of these guitars I suggest you pick it up or tell me where one is and I'll buy it.

It's the strat shaped Steinberger and it's got 24 frets. The body is Mahogany with a nice flamed top and a transparent blue finish. It's got a trans trem tremelo system but I just lock it into the 'fixed' position. It also has my favorite all around pickups-EMG's and an active EQ system.

Sound : 10
This guitar sounds excellent. It would be easily suited to any style. It has a H-s-H pickup configuration and the humbuckers can be coil tapped for single coil sounds. Everything from blues and jazz to metal.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This guitar was set up well from the factory and other than strings I've changed nothing. My pickups of choice were already installed. These necks play great- as good or better than my Jacksons(in fact I rarely play them anymore).

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is reliable, and though it's resonably light, it's as solid as a rock. It's got the best tremelo available in my opinion- the Trans Trem. It dusts the floyd rose tremelo. I've got 2 floyd roses and I'll never buy another. And another thing. No guitars stay in tune like these double ball style guitars. These things stay intune like NOTHING ELSE. Unabelievable. You can change strings really fast too. Solid guitar.

I've emailed them I emailed them a few times, they were good about getting back to me.

Overall Rating : 10
I would have no problem recomending this guitar to anyone. It is well suited in any style. If you want a great playing-versatile guitar that's capable of tones from blues to shred this is it.
