It was made in Korea in 2002, 2003 maybe. It has 24 frets. solid from what I can tell. Volume and tone with three way selector for the two humbuckers. EMG Selects. Passive elecronics. Maple body and neck. Blue finish, looks kinda funny on the website but a good blue for not getting made fun of when trying to save a hundred bones. Smal V style body. Steinberger R-Trem. 40:1 tuners. 25.5 scale I believe. Fat neck. Gig Bag, whammy bar, allen wrenches and a cable.

It suits my styles real well. Punk and Metal. I use the Behringer V-Amp out a 1000 watt power amp into two 4x12 cabs in stereo, it sounds killer. It is very quiet in comparison to my Gibson Les Paul Jr. Lite. Medum Fat sound that is rich in sustain. Allan Holdsworth is close by. It has an incredible metal sound that tames into nice clean tone, not strat like, but nice. Very powerfull lead tone that cuts through with the right presense and treble settings, it is very trasnparent, so you work your amp around it. Wide variety of tonal possiblities. I like it very much because of it's playability and great tone. I don't like that I have never played one before.

Setup better than the horror stories I heard. Pickups were adjusted well but not perfect. Great workmanship. There was nothing wrong with a supposedly blemmished guitar.

You can literally whack someone with this guitar and it will stay in tune. This guitar will last for sure. The finish is great. Strap buttons are kinda gay, need strap locks for sure. I can depend on this guitar fully on its own. I can take it on a gig without a back up for sure.

I have been playing for 17 years. I own enough equipment to make my own digial recordings in my bedroom with studio quality. Why didn't I buy this guitar a Long time ago? Whoever stole or lost it would face testicular electrocution or just death depending if I got it back or not. Lol. If you never played one, you need to, chances are, you'd like it and I wouldn't have to explain all the details of having such a fine instrument. I am a small guy, so the explorer, flying V deal just doesn't work for me. It is futuristic and cool looking and fits my body like a glove. I wish it had a built in MIDI connection, but for $250 bucks, I am not saying shit. My girlfriend likes it too.

this Korean-made small-bodied guitar has a maple-through neck, maple body, mahogany fretboard, full 25.5" scale, 24 frets, 1.625" nut, EMG select dual passive humbuckers, painted top, glossy finish, special Steinberger headless neck, 40:1 direct-pull tuners, small frets, comes with a gigbag, hex wrenches, tremolo bar, min-flying V body style, 3-way toggle switch, pickguard.

occasional rattle from the pickups, which aren't this instrument's strength. While the dual humbucker formation doesn't allow the flexibility of the humbuck-single coil-humbuck, five way toggle of the deluxe steinies, it does allow for more room to pick and strum without hitting a pickup.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action and setup happened to be perfectly fine upon arrival. The finish is very glossy, even, and well-done. I believe that the factory in Korea must be streamlining and automating their production process. Only complaint is the fact that the trussrod access appears to be somewhat compromised by the fact that the access hole routing is not well-ligned up with the hex bolt head. Hopefully, I won't have to access the trussrod for adjustment often, if ever. Otherwise, this guitar is particularly HEAVY, solid, and robust feeling, with a nice soft, silky finish. I think only my Gibson Les Paul and new American strat have better fit and feel out of the box. And they cost A LOT more!

This thing is a tank. If you tried to brain somebody with it (not recommended), you'd kill 'em. Seriously. Despite the weight, balance is pretty okay when seated, but you must use the fold-out leg rest. Dual strap buttons on the bottom wings, with a third that comes with the guitar that can be screwed into the preexisting hole right at the rear base of the neck, where it meets the body. Still, I'd get straplocks instead, to avoid accidental slippage. I could totally depend on this guitar otherwise. Like the Spirit GT pro, it's the perfect guitar for travelling.

MusicYo is a great outfit. They're responsive, and quickly returned any items if they sent the incorrect ones, etc. I think they offer good enough service, while still offering outstanding value and honest, quality products.

I bought this guitar because I was so happy with the Steinberger Spirit GT-pro that I also recently bought from them. I wanted to get a different color and body style, but I like the fact that both the GP and the GT are so portable, playable, and robust. I think that this GP-2R is actually better looking than the GT-pro; it looks more like a mini flying-V (especially in red) than a broom, which is what the GT can be seen to resemble.
Only caveats to the GP vs. the GT pro are:
1. The guitar cord jack is on the faceplate of the guitar. Like Gibson SGs, this makes it much more likely to get in the way, even with an elbow-joint connector. Also more likely that something really bad could happen, like tearing off part of the face of the guitar. On the GT pro, the cord outlet is on the bottom edge surface of the guitar, much more out of harms' way.
2. The supplied gig bag is identical to those supplied with the GT.. which is to say that they suck. They're thin, flimsy, and the padding is too light. I highly recommend getting the $49 aftermarket, higher quality gigbag, also available at musicyo. Waaay, better, and essential if you will be taking it everywhere.
3. The GP will NOT fit into the hardshell case available at musicyo. Thus, there really is no acceptable hardshell case available for this guitar. The HSC will, however, fit the GT pro like a glove.
There you have it. I'd say that for your first Steinberger travel guitar, I'd have to give the GT-pro the slight nod over the GP due to its slightly smaller size and slightly lesser weight, as well as the fact that it will fit in the HSC. However, the GP is a better-looking guitar in my opinion, and looks slightly less funny if you're going to be playing it in front of people.
Either way, these are great travel guitars, and you really should take a look at the Steinbergers before buying any other travel guitars. Musicyo is a great outfit, and the prices are very fair.
I got this guitar in case my other Steinberger got lost or stolen.

This guitar was made in 2002 in Korea. It has 24 frets, solid top guitar with two volume/tone knobs with a three way selector switch. The pickup combination is humbucker, humbucker, the pickups are EMG Select series, passive pickups.
The body is solid maple and the neck is three piece maple, neckthrough construction with a rosewood fretboard with MOP dot inlays. It has a solid finish in blue with a polyurethane clearcoat finish. The body style is "v-type" with a pickguard on the front and only front side routing for the electronics.
The bridge on this guitar is the Steinberger patented R-Trem system which allows you to set your bridge as either floating or fixed. The tuners are handled through the R-Trem system and it is quite ingenius in its design. Very simple but extremely effective. The neck scale is medium but it is very comfortable and fast for a finished neck and it is very comfortable to play and manuever around on. Access the the higher frets is extremely easy.
Accessories included were: a gig-bag, wrenches, tremolo arm, cable, and instructions on how to setup the guitar

I plat Heavy Metal and Hard Rock/Classic Rock and this guitar suites my style perfectly. I love classic Van Halen, Kiss, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest as well as AC DC and Ozzy.
I play through a Marshall JCM 900 Duel Reverb High Gain 100 watt combo with a Boss GT-6 Multi-Effects Processor.
The guitar was extremeley quite and the pickups that the guitar came with were very tinny and sterile sounding. Still the neck had great harmonic response and the action was very fast. It had a very bright sound to the guitar but it was a little thin in the mids and low end.
The guitar can pretty much make any sound but the pickups really were the weak link in the whole equation. EMG Select Series are the bottom of the barrel as far as pickups are concerned and are simply lifeless.
I love the feel and playability and attack I can get from this guitar. I dislike the stock pickups and they had to go. I swapped them out right away.

The guitar was setup very well by the factory and was imaculate when I got it. everything was on solidly and there were no flaws anywhere. I was very impressed.
The pickups were adjusted fine, they were just a little loose. Everything was routed properly and everything fit tight as a drum on this guitar.
Fantastic setup for coming out of the factory!

This guitar could definitely withstand life playing it is as heavy as a sack of cement and built solid! The hardware seems if it will last a long time and looks very dependable. The finish is very well done and looks like it will last a very long time and is imaculate as I said earlier.
The strap buttons however do not work very well at all. Do to the top heavy nature of this headless guitar it is very easy for the guitar to turn over and fall out of the strap buttons just by standing up. I put in Schaller Strap Locks in it right away and I would suggest that anyone else who decides to buy one of these guitars do the same. It really SHOULD have come with strap locks in the first place.
That being said I really feel that I can depend on this guitar and I feel that it is solid enough to gig with, without a backup.

MusicYo where I bought this guitar is very helpful and curtious to there customers and I rate them very high. In the process of changing a string I thought that I lost the little nylon washer that goes on the bridge saddle screw and they are going to send me for free replacement nylon washers.
It is not under any warrenty that I am aware of and if it is I voided that warrenty because I have already swapped out the pickups on this guitar and had some routing done on the inside and had a new volume/tone pot put in.

I have been playing for three years and own 15 other guitars ranging from cheap Super Strat copies to a Gibson Signature Les Paul Ace Frehley guitar. So I have the whole gamut of guitars from cheap to custom shop. With that said I think that this Steinberger is a great value of guitar at $340 bucks! It plays great, stays in tune and is a hell of alot of fun to play.
I did modify this guitar quite a bit to fit my liking. I put in a Seymour Duncan Heavy Metal Live Wire bridge pickup in the guitar which needed to have 2 9-volt batteries to power it up and a special volume/tone put. I needed to have the guitar routed inside to accomodate the two 9-volts and the much larger volume/tone pot. I also put in a Seymour Duncan Full Shred neck pickup and had to re-wire it so that the two pickups were seperate form one another as the "active" pickup the Live Wire needed it's own seperate pot and the Full Shred used the other. The Strap Lock buttons needed to be glued in to fit into the larger drilled holes in the body but after I was done the guitar really smoked!
The active pickup in the bridge really brought the guitar to life and made it more like a real Steinberger now that it had an active pickup. The Full Shred also had much more character and "ummphh" then the EMG Selects so the guitar was improved tremendously with better pickups in it.
I really love how this guitar playes, feels and sounds now and it really rivals some of my really expensive guitars in its playability and sound. These are real GEMS that need a little tweaking and upgrades to made into something that really Rocks!
Try one! They are really cool little guitars

Music style, contempoary rock, little bit of everything, using minimal effects, mostly distortion, reverb, and chorus. I replaced the Crap pickups with in the first 5 mins, i knew i would going into it, since the guitar is so cheap, i didn't mind getting the pickups replaced. Decent sound actually for a headless/bodiless guitar. Sounds good clean and distorted. I would give it higher marks, if i graded it with my aftermarket pickups, stock pickups suck.

High marks, only because it is a Korean made, and i was expecting much worse, let's be realistic, it is a $300 guitar, but setup/fit/finish was very good for a guitar of this price range.

16 years of playing, i own many guitars, fenders, gibsons, dean, yamaha, kramer, and this is probably the best $300 guitar i ever played, i would definately buy one if i had a limited budget or wanted a secondary guitar, stays in tune quite well, and is a decent/solid guitar. i am very pleased.I gave it a 10 because it is a fantastic value, we all know it isn't a real 1988 Graphite steiney with active EMG's but for the $ it is a great guitar.
