Here is where this guitar was a huge letdown. If you're looking for a nice strat thin sound then this guitar was a good choice. However, i did lot's a research which lead me to believe that the Koa, Pau Ferro combination would work well for rock, metal, and lead playing. I found this not to be the case at all. This guitar was very, very, thin sounding. When compared directly to several other more inexpensive guitars like IBanez rg3120's, Ibanez J-Custom, Jackson SL2h, or any Les Paul, the Suhr always came out on the loosing end. It wasn't just my opinion, several people who played this guitar each commented on it's thin, Bright tone. The tone of this guitar was on the oppossite side of the spectrum from a Mahagoney made guitar like a Les Paul. What you have here is a decent sounding strat, nothing more. That's not what i wanted so it scores very low for me. As far as clean tones go, any decent Strat can match it.

Fit and finish are top notch, no defects anywhere. The neck was to die for. The neck pocket fit was amazingly clean. Hardware all worked fine.

This Suhr is a very well made, very pretty guitar. BUT, i made the mistake of buying it without playing. You have to play these things before you buy one, don't make the mistake that i did. Not every Suhr is going to sound great. I have heard plenty of Suhr's that do nothing for me tonewise and i wonder why the heck they cost soo much. But i do have to admit that they are well made. You have to decide for yourself it it's worth it. The tone of the Suhr i owned was soo uninspiring to me i couldn't play it anymore. I did sell it and i bought another Les Paul which just blows any bolt-on style guitar away for fat thick tone. When it comes down to it, these Suhr's are still just bolt on's with tremolo bridges or FLoyd's. If you want the most thick and killer rock tones get a Les Paul. The Suhr's to me are good hybrid's for lots of different tones, but they really don't do any single tone the best. I still think the the Anderson's are way more versatile with the Switcheroo system.

A great creation of John Suhr. Mine is a woodgrain color and it has 22 frets. This one has some humbuckers and some Velvet Hammer pickups as well. Floyd Rose.

The guitar can go from a very rich sound to a tinny punky sound. I play through Crate and Epiphone amps and I use a Korg AX1500G for effects. No additional noise comes through the electronics. It can do about anything you want, but the rich sound is it's specialty.

I picked this one up used, but it was set up perfectly. The action is a little higher than the norm, but strings are soft so it plays like a dream.

It's been dropped and flung and stomped on and it doesn't have a scratch to show for it. The electronics have been a little messed up though...one of the positions on the 5-way selector switch buzzes a little bit. It is very dependable. Strap buttons are especially nice b/c they are large and your strap won't fall off.

I'm a 15 year old and I've been playing for 7 years. This is the 9th guitar that either I or my dad have owned and the Suhr and my vintage Strat are in a dead tie for my favorite. When separated from it, I cry. Large rivers. Let me know if anybody finds a Pensa-Suhr official website.

This is the tale of my 1990 Pensa-Suhr "dream" guitar. It was made solely by John Suhr in Rudy Pensa's custom shop at Rudy's Music, NYC. This guitar sports a natural finish strat style two-piece solid Koa body with a 22 fret solid Pau Ferro neck & fingerboard. It feautres EMG pickups in a S/S/H configuration ('81 humbucker and "SA's" for the single-coils) which are active electronics. The hardware is gold and features an original Floyd Rose with Schaller Tuners and small frets.

With the puchase of this guitar did I truly make the transition to how great tonewood and amazing craftmanship can really effect the instrument as a whole. Hands down, this is the nicest instrument I have ever played!
While this instrument was desinged with the high-gain lead player in mind, I've found this arrangement of EMG's to be very nice! I previsouly owned an Ibanez Voyager RBM2 whose design was based heavily on this Pensa-Suhr. However, the Ibanez had truly annoying EMG mid-boost circuitry which I think overpowered the actual tonality of the instrument. The EMG's on this Pensa-Suhr are the most natural-sounding active pickups I have ever heard.
From the best strat tones to that of a heavy crunch Les Paul, this instrument can really pull it all off! WOW!
