I have the Suhr Pro series model 1 in three tone Sunburst- beautiful finish. Mine happens to have a low serial number. The specs for these can be seen on Suhrs web site so I wont get into that. SSH configuration is the most versatile set up available. Every aspect of this guitar was well thought out and attention to the highest quality was addressed. Locking tuners,Wilkinson Bridge, custom radius fretboard, etc, etc,...Everything was designed, and improved upon, from any of the custom shop or high end Fenders I have ever owned. It is a professional guitar in every way.

This is an extremely versatile gutar that has the bite of a LP in the bridge, and the sweet 60's strat sound in the neck. It has body to the tone that is essential with ash and alder- It retains great clarity and punch regardless of the amps/effects I use. ( I am a session player for over 30 years and utilize varieties of different gear however, I gravitate to Mesa amps for live shows with various vintage/boutique analog effects, and Lexicon Rack reverb/delays.)
I play mostly, Rock, fusion, Jazz, blues,.. This guitar sounds fantastic with all genre's- incredible sustain.

This guitar is rock solid. Came from the factory set up perfect. Low action(as I like).PU height is dead on. The neck pocket to body is so tight and the sustain is amazing.
If I has to change anything, I would have preferred an option of a slightly deeper V profile to the neck- But that's what a custom or classic Suhr isfor.... This neck though is sleek-very comfortable and fast.

Outstanding guitar. I never gig without a backup. Very dependable.
It is a Pro guitar...every aspect is the highest quality. Suhr doesn't make assembly line, mass produced guitars like those sold at guitar superstores.
They make amazing instruments.

I have been playing since I was a child ( fourty+ years). I have two favorite guitars that I gravitate to- my Ernieball/Musicman LUKE and my Suhr Pro. I have Gibsons, Fenders, Tom Anderson's, Valley Arts(The original company) etc,...even more variety available to me when in the studio. I choose to play these two guitars as they both offer the best TONE, feel, amazing quality, playability, crafmanship and overall vibe.
There are so many options out there these days. It all depends on what you like and what you want. I love LP'sand SG's for their bite and growl, but they aren't designed for versatility. Strats "generally" are more geared for cleaner or mildly overdriven sounds- not high gain( subjective I know). This model Suhr guitar though is relly the best of both worlds.

Suhr Pro Series S3 Bengal Burst
Made in USA
the body`s wood is basswood, it`s very light (and with the superlight case...it`s a really light guitar for move you with it), perhaps the sound hasn`t the enough sustain because the basswood.
The pickups (S/S/H) have a really very good sound, like a really old and good Fender with the singles and it can sound really hard with the powerfull Humbucker that it has in the bridge.
The tuners are good, they lock the strings very well.
5 ways selector.
Frets: heavy(like jumbo...i think)
I rate it a 8 because i don`t like at all the basswood.
Sound
:
10
The sound is very good(it`s the best of the guitar), i use to play rock, hardrock, blues, soul,...etc..., it isn`t noisy, it has a lot of harmonics if you use a good overdrive
Action, Fit, & Finish
:
4
The action was very bad, it had a lot of noises playing the guitar because the strings hit in the frets with low action(problems in the first frets and in the last frets), it isn`t true that the Suhr guitars can be adjusted better than Fender, the same problems that with a Fender guitar, i had to adjust 2.1 mm. in the 6th string and 1.7 mm. in the first string for find a good sounding action.
The finish was ok.
The action was very hard with the 0.10 that it had from factory(it`s a 0.10 guitar in the papers), i have 11 guitars and this guitar is the only one that it was as hard with a 0.10, i had to put a 0.9 for can play comfortably this guitar, i adjusted the springs for it, ....i don`t believe that these pro series can be as good like the custom Suhr line...because this is perhaps my worse guitar from my collection
Reliability/Durability

For the moment i prefer use my other guitars for live, perhaps one day i will try it
The finish is good enough, the strap buttons are solid

I only sent a mail to the shop telling about the guitar was a lot of noises(the strings with the frets) when i played with the guitar, the said me that it was very good adjusted for an expert...bla...bla..bla...and that i could send to them a mail telling them about it again after some weeks...

I`ve been playing from 20 years
My other guitars: PRS Mc cary, PRS custom 22 top 10 stoptail, PRS custom 22 top 10 trem, PRS singlecut top 10, PRS custom 24 top artist trem, Fender STrat 1979 with Alnico Ha??ssel pickups, IBanez Paul gilbert, Gibson les paul custom 81, Gibson les paul deluxe 73,Washburn N4 custom shop swamp ash
I bought this guitar because i believed that the pro series was a best sounding Fender...but...now i`m not sure about it, perhaps the custom series...but not the Pro Series
If it was stolen i never could buy again this guitar
I love the sound from the pickpus in this guitar
I hate the action, the wood from the body,..
I bought it without try it(for mail order) because it`s difficult in my country find these guitars

2008 S1 model gorgeous sunburst, features a lightweight Alder body, plain grain hard rock Eastern Maple neck, Indian Rosewood fingerboard, the Even C Slim neck shape, the Gotoh 510 bridge, Sperzel locking tuners, and the SSV humbucker in the bridge position and the V60LP single-coil pickups in the neck and middle positions. These pickups sound great, they are spanky, but with some beef, and a nice sustain.
Buzz Feiten Tuning System and the Plek fret-leveling job are standard features on the Pro Series guitars just like on their Custom guitars. Comes with nice hardcase. Nicely built, quality guitar!

I have tried several Strats over the last few years and after buying this guitar, have come to the conclusion that the mass produced USA Fender guitars can't come close to the quality, and attention to detail that this guitar has. Fender strats are heavier, and fell clunky to me now. The Suhr body is lighter and has better contours. Just feels right, and is a joy to play! If this is their entry level guitar, I can't imagine what the other models are like. This guitar is very versatile, with the single coils in the first 2 positions, and the humbucker in the bridge, you can get a wide variety of tones. I rarely use the bridge pickup on a Fender strat because that are usually too bright and thin. I find myself using the bridge pickups on the Suhr quite often, especially playing the lower notes on the heavier strings. The only thing I would change about the guitar is the neck. I like a slightly rounder back neck, don't get me wrong, it's a great neck, with impeccable fret work, but a little bit thicker neck would be nice.

I lowered the action a little to my taste, but other than that, the guitar was very platable out of the box. The neck is perfect, I have not had to adjust it at all. The fret work is awesome, great job!!

I have been playing 20+ years, and have tried a lot of gear over the years, and I have finally found my Strat! Everything about this guitar says quality. When I changed out the pickguard I noticed that all the wiring was run perfectly, all the soldering and mounting of the switches and knobs was perfect. The body cavity was clean and painted(no dust, no crap). I could tell that the people at Suhr care about putting out a quality product. I would buy another one if something happened to this one. Find a store that carries Suhr and try one through a good tube amp and see what I mean.

I play Jazz, Blues and pop styles. This guitar is awesome for nailing different tones. Just a fantastic sound. I use it with an old 64 Bassman converted into combo with a WeberVST speaker + beam blocker.
It has your typical true single coil hum in positions 1 and 3.
The sound of this guitar is amazing. The dynamic range is incredible and the sustain is great!

The guitar was set up well, the feel is smooth, the finish is great. The guitar is simple but put together very, very well.
The fretwork is perfect. The Sperzels feel tighter than some of my other Sperzel guitars, but this is minor.

I wish I had known about these guitars before I bought 6 or 7 other strat style guitars. This would have saved me a lot of money. This is the best guitar I have ever played. It suits me perfectly. About the only thing I wish it had was maybe a sunburst color, but this is only for looks. The guitar is KILLER!

This is a guitar you buy and forget about the others

i do recommend this guitar to the serious guitar player who will appreciate the sublte differences it possesses from the average guitar in its price range...another thing the price is high...but i think its worth it to have a guitar that you dont say...damn that was a stupid investment. even if this is suhr's lowest line doesnt mean quality is comprimised...youre still getting the same quality you would receive from his upper line stuff. lots of features that other companies just dont do...and just an awesome product.
iam quite happy with this buy and have now owned it for about 6months now...

Suhr REALLY got it right with the Pro Series. I've owned a bunch of strats (and still do), but every one of them has something that bugs me - I either live with it if it's an older one, or change it on my newer ones.
Here's what rocks about this guitar:
- compound radius fretboard (10" - 14") - great for chords down low and for solos/bending higher on the neck!
- A trem that really works! Don't be shy, even tho it is non-locking is ALWAYS comes back in tune.
- Buzz Feiten tempered tuning. This is a BIG deal. If you've never had a guitar with this feature you won't believe how in tune it plays all over the neck. If you're like me it will take a while to really "get" it, since you been compensating for so many years...
- Volume control that maintains highs as you turn it down! Nothing bugs me more than a vol control that muffles...
- tapered heel/neck joint - provides much easier access to the upper frets.
- locking tuners that STAY IN TUNE
- perfect "flatter C" style neck carve w/ fast satin finish!
+ all of the other features mentioned in the other reviews

I'm "modern vintage" kind of player... meaning that I like to play a range of gain from low-gain bluesy stuff to high gain rock (but I don't like high output pups in general as they always lack in tone). These pups do it all. Grrrreat vintage Stevie tones from the singles (one of my strats has Texas Specials and the Suhr pups are throatier). Also, excellent high gain tones from the hum (or either of the singles for that matter). I don't use a single coil bridge pup by itself much - too thin, so the simple switching to get the hum works great (BTW, it also splits really well in the 4th position and has a true strat quack).
I also have an Anderson 2006 hollow drop top with ALL the goodies - and this Suhr smmmmokes it in tone! (and I spent twice as much on the Anderson)

Like I said above - this guitar gives me EVERYTHING I need on a strat style guitar. I own 4 Fenders, a Tom Anderson, and a few other brands of strat style guitars and this is the one I find myself playing the most. The Anderson plays a little better, but the Suhr sounds MUCH better in my opinion. I'll likely pick up at least one more in another color (I have the white, which is very cool).
Buy this guitar before Suhr wakes up a raises the price!!!

See features above. Mine is an Olympic White model, alder body. HSS configuration. I would list all the features, but, someone already has. This guitar is very versatile, with the HSS setup. I can get the basic strat sound with the mid and neck positions, and I can get a great overdriven, tight, sound for more of a rock/metal sound with the humbucker. It has a Wilkinson VG 300 trem, which I love. I was tired of the Floyd thing. Been there and done that all thru the 80s.It was time for a change.

Oh yeah, I know this guitar can withstand live playing. Its a Suhr for heavens sake. Built like a tank. John really went all out for this one, and made a Suhr affordable for the working musician, or the casual player. Now a Suhr is not out of my grasp, finacially. I always gig with a backup, but not because I dont think the Suhr would let me down, but you should always gig with a backup guitar, and amp.

I am planning on getting another one.

This guitar sounds fantastic! I have been playing guitar for 20 years and worked in the music industry as a professional sound engineer in Nashville for 9 years. I have worked and heard the best session players, guitars, and amps known to produce "tone." This guitar gets all of the single coil strat tones effortlessly in the neck and mid positions! The bridge pick up is a JST DSH Humbucker. It meshes well with the single coils. I prefer single coils in all positions, but after hearing the double coil in the bridge with this guitar, I found it extremely usable and quite good sounding. Great for Nashville chickin' picking, Blues, and RNR. I am extremely impressed with the build. I have played Strats for years and have become tired of spending 3 months playing srat after strat(custom shop or standard) in order to try and find a good one. This guitar came out of the case after shipping playing, looking, and sounding great! I never have bought a guitar through mail order without playing it first. I would do it again now that I know this guy Suhr means business! I was worried because there are many players on his website indorsed by him are shredders. I don't have any problem with this, except for the fact that my style of playing is not the highly overdriven, saturated square wave Heavy Metal sound. I was afraid that the guitar would not get the classic Stratocaster tones... Just kiddin'!!! It nailes them and sounds great through all the amps that I play. I have a '59 Vibrolux, a 1973 Marshall Mark II Superlead, and a Dr. Z Maz 38 Senoir. The guitar is extremely sensitive to your playing and the pick ups sound great. Vintage tones, as well as the modern sounds are easily achieved. Freakin' love it!

Incredible action! Played like a dream out of the case! The guitar is put on a plek machine to level frets(check out website). I have owned many guitars and this one is on par with the best Strats I have owned. The action is the lowest on any guitar I have ever owned. Very comfortable. The neck is smooth as silk, and allows your thumb to slide up and down the neck effortlessly. The notes in the upper register sing with great sustain and do not die out when bending or being fretted. The color is a deep 3 tone burst. When buying a strat, you want a light to medium weight guitar. Heavy strat style guitars are too dark, but the lighter ones get more of the bell tone(usually as a general rule). Suhr uses a 2 piece body, maple neck, and a rosewood fretboard(look at the spec sheet for features). The body had a beautiful transparent grain.

$1650.00 Street. Around the cost of a Fender custom shop. You may order one of those though and not get the tone. What if it is a heavy one? Most boutique guitars are much more expesive. Why pay more? Great product for the money.
