ME AGAIN!!! MR. METALHEART HERE WITH MY LATEST PURCHASE AND REVIEW.
SWITCH HAS ALOT OF GREAT MODELS TO CHOOSE FROM. I MOSTLY PLAY METAL AND I DECIDED TO PUT A "LESS LIKELY" SWITCH INSTRUMENT TO THE TEST. I AM REVIEWING A SWITCH STEIN III IN BLUE FIREMIST W/ BLACK PICKGUARD. I PURCHASED IT NEW ON EBAY FROM A DEALER IN SC. FIRST PROBLEM WAS OBVIOUS THIS INSTRUMENT WAS MADE ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND HAD BEEN "TRIED OUT" ALOT IN THE STORE...THE STRINGS HAD TO GO!!! I GOT HER ALL CLEANED UP LEMON OILED AND A FRESH SET OF GHS 10 GAUGE INFINITY STEELS....HOLD ON TO YOUR SHORTS FOLKS I'VE CREATED A MONSTER!!! IMPORTED OR NOT THIS IS A TRULY GREAT INSTRUMENT!!! VERY VERSATILE W/ A COOL SUSTAINING METAL CRUNCH. IT WAS ALREADY SETUP FAIRLY WELL BUT I TWEEKED A BIT. EASY TO DO W/ THE HARDWARE USED ON THIS GUITAR...NICE FUNCTIONAL ROLLER TREM SYSTEM.THE GUITAR SEEMS TO HOLD TUNE WELL W/O A LOCKNUT TOO. ALL MY OTHER SWITCH INSTRUMENTS HAVE THE THREE ON A SIDE HEADSTOCK AND THIS GUITAR IS COOL LOOKING W/ THE SIX TO A SIDE CONFIGURATION. GUITAR CAME W/ AN AWESOME GIGBAG AND STRAP.

Sound : 9
WELL AS I SAID BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS WITH "METAL FAILURE" IN MIND...EVEN THINKING I'D PROBABLY RESELL IT...NO F..KIN' WAY!!! ITS LIKE A STRAT AND DOUBLE CUT LES PAUL HAD A BABY...I LOVE THIS GUITAR AND PLAN ON GETTING A SIGNATURE VERSION SOON...HUM,SIN,SIN...PUPS...I'LL LEAVE IN THEY SOUND GREAT ALL LUG POLE PIECES...VERY SMOOTH DISTORTION...LIKE MY WOLFTONE PUPS IN MY USA IRONBIRD(BC RICH FOR YOU NOVICES) BEST PART IS THE NECK CONSISTANCY FROM MODEL TO MODEL THERE IS VERY LITTLE DEVIATION THEY CAN BE SWAPPED IN A LIVE SITUATION AND YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE YOU NOTICE A CHANGE AT ALL. CONTRARY TO "CUSTOM SHOP" ONE OF A KIND GUITARS. MOST SHOPS SAY THEY MAKE THEM TO THE PURCHASER'S SPECS,BUT IT THINK THEY CANNOT DO THE SAME AXE "EXACTLY" TWICE. JUST MY OPINION AND EXPERIENCE...YOU BE THE JUDGE ON THAT. THE STEIN III IS A GREAT LITTLE AXE I'LL USE ALOT...GOOD SOLID FEEL, CHUNKY TONE.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
WELL FOR A DEMO STORE MODEL SETUP WAS OKAY BUT WAS PROBABLY CHANGED FROM ORIGINAL SHIPPED CONDITION. SO NO REAL OPINION CAN BE GIVEN ON SETUP HERE. IT WAS NOT BAD BUT NEEDED TO BE REDONE AND I DID SO. PUPS WERE IN NEED OF HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT AS WELL. THIS IS WHERE I SOUND LIKE I'M OVER THE TOP BUT WHOEVER DOES THE FRETS AT SWITCH THEY DO A GREAT JOB THIS STEIN III DOES FEEL AS GOOD AS AN IMPORTED JACKSON NECKTHRU AXE IT REALLY DOES. ALL HARDWARE IS ASSEMBLED WELL AND FUNCTIONS FLAWLESSLY. ALL ALIGNMENTS ARE ACCURATE NO STRINGS HANGING OFF THE NECK OR "NEARLY OFF". VIBRACELL WHAT GREAT STUFF!!!
THE TONE OF IT IS GREAT. PEOPLE SAY THAT EMG PICKUPS ARE "STERILE SOUNDING" IF BY THAT THEY MEAN ANY INSTRUMENT W/ ACTIVE EMGS SOUNDS THE SAME THEN I SAY COOL! WHY NOT MAKE A CHEAPER GUITAR SCREAM W/ THE BIG BOYS. SWITCH HAS DONE THE SAME AMAZING THING HERE. ANY MODEL YOU BUY SOUNDS GREAT...PERIOD!!! YOU CAN CHANGE WHAT YOU WANT BUT HOW COOL IS IT TO BUY AN INSTRUMENT THAT REALLY DOES NOT NEED IT THE DAY YOU PURCHASE IT...OR EVER FOR THAT MATTER. THIS COMPANY REALLY HAS DONE SOMETHING AMAZING HERE.... GIVE ONE AN HONEST TRY YOU'LL SEE FOR YOUR SELF...IF YOU HAVE AN OPEN MIND AND WANT SOMETHING "REAL" FOR A CHANGE.

Reliability/Durability : 9
MY OTHERS HAVE TAKEN ALL I CAN MUSTER AND THEY SURVIVE TO THIS DAY. SOME OTHER CONVENTIONAL GUITARS I'VE HAD LOOK PRETTY BEATEN A YEAR LATER WITH HEAVY USE. MY SWITCHES ALL LOOK RELATIVELY NEW SOME PICK SCRATCHES AND SUCH BUT THEY DON'T GET AFFECTED BY THE ELEMENTS AND THEY ARE JUST PLAIN SOLID WORK GUITARS. ALL HARDWARE IS GOOD, PUPS ARE GREAT... I CAN DEPEND ON MY SWITCH ARSENAL FOR ALL I NEED THEM FOR. FUNNY THING IS I'LL NEVER NEED TO REPLACE THEM, BUT THEY COST LESS THAN MOST GUITARS OF SIMILAR QUALITY. SO IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO REPLACE ONE IT WON'T CRUSH YOUR POCKET JUST YOUR AUDIENCE. MY FAVORITE "BEATER AXE" IS A SOLID BLACK SWITCH WILD I ITS A LITTLE BRUISER.

Customer Support : 10
GREAT COMPANY ...GREAT PEOPLE...ENOUGH SAID...THANKS SWITCH!!!

MY OTHER SWITCH REVIEWS GO INTO MORE DETAIL HERE...BEEN PLAYING LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW A GREAT THING WHEN I SEE/HEAR IT!!!! PICK A MODEL THAT SUITS YOU AND DON'T HOLD ANYTHING BACK....WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS ON THAT BATTLEFIELD(STAGE)THE ONLY THING LEFT STANDING WILL BE YOU AND YOUR SWITCH AXE!!!
KEEP THE FAITH

H-S-S Configuration like a fat strat; 5-way switch, Vol-Tone-Tone, Two-point floating tremolo with roller saddles, 6 inline Grover tuners, bound neck. Single piece resin body shaped like a cross between a Parker Fly and a Strat. Fender neck scale with 22 frets.

Sound : 7
Sounds like a combination of an Epiphone Les Paul and a MIM Standard Strat. The single coils are clear and clean sounding. The humbucker is warm and compressed. The tone controls only affect the single coil pickups, and they don't do much at that. But the range of available sounds (including the position 2 and 4 out of phase selections) is sufficiently diverse and useable. It is easy to get a decent and balanced sound from the stock pickups. Nothing very complex about the tone though, and the sustain is not any different than that of an American bolt-neck strat. I might upgrade the pickups in the future.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Plus: Very easy to adjust, and intonates well. Action can be set comfortably low without fret buzz. The body feels very similar to mahogany; the single piece design makes it pleasingly solid to hold.
The paint job is a screaming neon yellow and orange fade that is much more flourescent in real life than it appears in the pictures on the switchmusic.com website. The rest of the world looks positively bland once you bring this guitar into the room.

Minus: The fret edges are nasty and rough, despite the neck binding. Worse in this regard than any guitar I have ever owned. Needs sanding.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Solidly built. The guitar inspires confidence, and the hardware is professional. This could be anybody's main guitar, as far as the durability department goes. In fact, I'd rather gig with this one than with some of my more valuable recording guitars.

I like it because it is different. I think the name "Switch" hurts the sales of these things, which is probably why I got mine so cheap. They should have named these "Swatch", or "Little Wilkies" or something, because most guitarists have no interest in 'switching' their brand name for some fancy new technology. Strats and Pauls have remained popular for 50 years now, and this guitar wouldn't make you switch brands. Once you get past the stupid marketing hype though, it's a nifty guitar that gives you a solid piece of workmanship and a comfortable playing experience. This complements my collection of 8 stratocasters nicely, and the overall quality I would say is somewhere between a MIM Standard and an American Standard fat Strat. I'm happy with it.

Not bought it yet, but our guitar shop had this screaming thing hanging behind some Peaveys - not now though, I've re-arranged them. It just feels good - no, it feels very good. Grovers, EMG design pick-ups, Trev Wilkinson design wammy, lovely finish, it's just got to sound and feel top notch - screaming yellow guitar, half dipped in blood, the greenfly will love this. Rosewood neck, 22 frets, 2 singles and a humbucker. I'm not a great wammy user, but even that feels good.

Sound : 10
Wonderfully warm on neck & middle pick-ups, lovely and smooth in the out-of-phases with just a hint of that characteristic click and bloody hot on the neck pick-up. The tones were so full and usable, almost as though I could play all of our songs - smooth to rock without changing too much. And this was through a Peavey amp that I had no idea how to control. I like guitars that are different, but still sound really good - this Switch guitar is the epitome.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
In tune straight off the shelf and God knows how many little urchins had been fiddling with it. I've got short, stubby fingers and the frets and string spacing are perfect. The palm rest area is comfortable and I was straight off and playing with a big smile. I use JBs on my Yamaha and I take some pleasing, especially with all of these so-and-so designed pick-ups (I really hate the Schecter etc, pick ups these days) but these EMGs are lovely and smooth.

Reliability/Durability : 8
As I said, I haven't bought it yet, but I will once I'm paid this month. It's stood up very well to the school holidays torture the local grubby handed kids have given it and the hot summer had not affected the tuning at all. I'm sure it will love being under lights and the audience are going need shades !!! I was looking for a back-up for my beloved Yamaha, but this might even overtake that.

Pass - I'm still trying to find their website. They say lifetime guarantee, I just hope that they also have 3rd party cover for the audience having look at this thing with lights shining on it.

Overall Rating : 10
Can't wait to get one (or more, the Les Paul type one looks good too) and I've already texted to 4 other players who always moan about even the most expensive guitars. I'm as exceited as when I first played through a Line 6 on Soldano settings. The closest guitar I've played to this is the Brian Moore - pure comfort, warm tone and easy, but solid feel. Only the #1,400 price difference separates them !
