Black, flying V-ish guitar with no headstock. Bolted neck. Neck plays great, and fast too. The guitar uses screws at the nut to hold the strings. Tuning is done at the bridge. Gaudy looking "SYNSONICS" painted conspicuously at the front of the body. One passive humbucker at the bridge position with one volume knob. Nothing much to shout about.

Sound : 4
Played a lot of "noise" with the band, so didn't really nitpicked on the sound. Pickups were ok, I guess. Clean, the tone was hard and biting. What would you expect from constantly playing the bridge position? Actually the clean sound was just horrible. Couldn't play with a pick as the sound of the pick hitting the strings came out very clear, so had to use my fingers. OD sounds better. Distortion is what this guitar was meant to play. Distortion sounded sweet and fat.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Action was great. Played great out off the box. Finish was so,so. Couldn't detect any flaws when I first got it. Electronics worked fine, no oxidization or rust there.

Reliability/Durability : 7
Gigged a few times with this one. Even did multi-track recording a few times. The tuning is rock-steady. Has never failed me on stage, this one. Hardware still plays great. Would I use it on a gig without a backup? This was my only guitar when I started playing, so I have USED it without a backup. Been with me for over 10 years, and the only problem is with the finish. Paint cracks on both the fins, and the wood appears to be cracking a little there. Must be the humidity. Then again, after all the abuse the guitar has been put through, I guess it's only inevitable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No need to deal with the dealer.

Been playing off and on for about 15 years now. Doodle with acoustic guitars most of the time, so the Synsonics is my one and only guitar. For practice, I put it through a Marshall Valvestate 8010. Like I said, distorted, the guitar sounds fine, and the Valvesate has got some nice OD sounds. When I bought the guitar, I was taken in by its unique shape. Sigh, I was young and foolish then. In retrospect, I would probably have gotten a more versatile guitar with a nice clean tone. With S/S/H, S/S/S or H/H pickups, and not just a single pickup which really limits the range of sounds. This guitar is basically eye candy. It never fails to turn heads in a crowded room - many oohs and ahhs everytime I bring it out. I don't love or hate it, and if it was lost or stolen, I'd get something else.

Model HL-200 T Made in Asia I guess. 24 frets on a headless fretboard with 1 humbucker. 1 volume and 1 tone control for 1 p/u - makes sense. It is a steinberger copy with a black hardwood body w/the obnoxious (I'll agree) Synsonic sticker plastered on the front which I covered w/ black elec. tape. This really is a rescued puppy story about a sad guitar rescued from a pawn shop. More on that latter. Enough features for what I paid and what it is.

Sound : 6
With the guitar stock it would appeal to the jr. hard rockers. It has more of a bright sound than I prefer. I have some mods planned for this guitar and should prove to be worth it. It sometimes has a strange buzz vibrato like ring to the strings.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
I bought this used from a pawn shop, so how fair can I be? I had the nut replaced and a professional setup. This guitar cleaned up nicely.

Reliability/Durability : 5
This guitar takes alot of daily pratice and I probably will use it for pratice only.

Customer Support : No Opinion

I have been playing off and on for 20 years. I had been looking for a project guitar and found this one. The pawnbroker sensed my pity and didn't give me the deal I should have got, but I made up for the difference with another purchase deal. What I didn't expect was the use I get from this guitar. It is travel lite and size, so I pick it up alot and I'm not worried about where I set it down. I have had alot of different guitars. I would probably replace this with a real Steinberger if lost or stolen. My main guitar is a #1 Bly Harmonic, but this is my daily driver.

This is a fairly cool version of the Steinberger "Headless" guitar made during the 80's. This one was made in 89. Sold thru Penney's and Sears catalogs during 89-91. It was made in Korea, 24 frets, solid matted black finish. Only one volume control, no tone knob. One humbucker in bridge position. This pickup I don't know what it is. The body is hardwood, the neck is hardwood I guess. The fretboard is ebony. The body is strange; it kinda resembles a Randy Rhoades square version. A fin design on the left side. Like a Steinberger, there are locking bolts near the nut to clamp down on the strings. A locking nut. The tuners are right on the bridge. A whammy bar bridge. The neck is small and the frets are small. This guitar was ordered thru the Synsonics co. it came with a whammy bar, cord, and allen wrenches. Oh yeah, in block white letters, it states, "SYNSONICS". Kinda hideous, people. Right on the front of the body.

Sound : 7
I used to own one before. I ordered it thru Penney's when I was younger, In 89. So I called Synsonics to see if I could locate another one. A bit of nostalgia, I guess. They said there were 20 in a warehouse for sale. I don't think this is anything but a good beg. guitar. I mean, the tuning is stable and doesn't go out of tune or anything but it looks, feels and plays like some kid metal guitar. If you're into that, nothing wrong with it. Kind of a plain, average sound. Good for heavy rock at the beginner's level. NO variety. Good for a garage band sound. I bought it from Synsonics for 80.00 dollars.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Coming from the factory, the action was good. Easy to play, and almost no fret buzz. Some tinkering could set it straight for ya. Pickup was adj. fine. All was fine coming from the warehouse. The bridge was good. No real flaws. I guess poor quality wood; I don't know what they used. Definetely hardwood of some sort.

Reliability/Durability : 7
I guess one could play live with it but unless your're playing only one style of music, you might want a backup. The hardware is ok. The finish is ok. The strap buttons are solid. The guitar is somewhat dependable but trashing it out onstage wouldn't be difficult. A Metallica tribute band could use it onstage w/out a backup. Its more of a gimmick or beginner's guitar.

Synsonics is good for beg. and intermidiate stuff. They sell stuff all the time in Damark and Penney's catalogs. They make a good strat copy also reviewed under "SYNSONICS". It came with a 90 day warranty. So far so good.

Overall Rating : 5
I wish I'd known I was buying a toy!!!!!! But to play, it produces a decent rock tone. With distortion, some interesting sounds. Doesn't feedback too bad. Yeah, it's ok. Good beg. axe. Or to smash onstage.
