I bought this guitar used from Brazil. It's a few years old and has the big seventies strat type head. Light colored solid Brazilian woods, marfim neck and marupa body, in a natural finish. The wood is solid, well cut and well finished with a thin lacquer that feels much better than the thick plastic covering most mass produced guitars have. Nice abalone dots. No-name tuners and electronics that seem to work good enough but can easily be changed if necessary. The main reason I got this guitar is for the woods and craftsmanship. If they put high end electronics in it would be too expensive.

Sound : 8
The guitar sounds great with the stock pickups through my silverface Princeton Reverb. I'm thinking of switching to humbuckers out of personal preference when I have the cash.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
When I got it second hand I had to have the frets changed because the last guy who owned it had played them down too much. The guitar sets up fine now with everything stock.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It was at least ten years old when I bought it last year. The guitar is solid and stays in tune.

I've been playing for over twenty years. I bought this guitar to remind me of Brazil. Sure I would want to buy another one if it were stolen although it would be hard to go back to Brazil to get it because they don't make this style anymore. The best thing about it is the wood and craftsmanship. And it's cool to have the only Brazilian electric guitar in town.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
Trastes estilo vintage.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion

Brazillian handmade, brazillian woods,
Marupa = body
Pau Marfim = Neck (no fretboard)
Mine is finished with a gorgeous tobacco sunburst colour.
Original Pickups were korean.
Vintage tremolo style bridge.
Original tuners were korean too.

This guitar is the best copy of stratocaster design guitars, changing the pups and tweaking the hardware you get a guitar with incredible feel and sound, better than a bunch of modern mass production Fender's.

Sound : 10
Strats can do a lto of stuff, country, rock, fusion, etc...
Today I am using a 1987 Marshall plexi clone with it, I achieved the one of the best strat tones after changing the pups, tuners and adjusting it right.
Now I have Texas Customs shop pups (HOT) and Grover Tuners.
Noisy, well, I tube amp and single coils give you the classic 60Hz hum, but for me it's is ok, not disturbing that much.
I dig this guitar, It was the best choice for me, great wood work care and quality.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
At the factory the setting was not that good, I think that the strings that they fit the guitar to sell are not Premium strings, so things change a lot when you exchange the strings, but okay, a minor truss-rod spin, good strings, graffite under the nut and that is it.
Original pickups were lousy for my taste, but it is compatible to the price.
Amazing sunburst finish!
The body is very well routed and the counter body feel is great.

Reliability/Durability : 9
So far it handle my playing very well, I have a soft sort of playing, but even I freak out and do some bass playing wacko, it goes ok, tremolo out tune is within this guitar standards.
The tuners were a good improvement, the korean ones look cool but are not so strong as the Grovers.
The backup for me would be another style guitar, my Tagima will go everywhere.

Customer Support : 9
I sent an email to the factory and receive a prompt answer.
Warranty I think it is not a problem, but if needs somethind I would do it myself.

Overall Rating : 10
I also own my plexi tube amp, a solid state bass amp, a custom bass, a custom archtop semi-hollow guitar. Play the guitar for 8 years.
I would certainly buy it again with I miss it.
I like it's sound, looks, action, great guitar deal, classic and full strat tone.
I compared it with a Fender Deluxe 1983... Mine sound better, maybe because of the pups.

Solid body 50's Strat copy, made in Brazil, 2002, under the supervision of factory owner Seiji Tagima. I've heard they have two series of guitars now: one is made in Korea (slightly cheaper and not as good), and the "hand made in Brazil" series.
Mine's on the second group. "Marfim" neck and scale (a brazilian wood, similar to maple), "marupa" solid body, 50's style bridge, schaller-type tuners. 3 single coil pickups, 5-way selector, blah blah blah, it's a strat copy, dammit.

Sound : 9
This guitar is a battle horse. I play instrumental rock (surf, twang and the like), and it's perfect for it. nicely setup with 0.11s and you can't even tell, it plays like melted butter.
Been playing it on a Fender Stage 100, no effects apart from the spring reverb on the amp. very bright sounding. Pickups are fine for the price paid, but I plan to put on seymour duncan vintage strat pickups someday. The only thing I don't like about this guitar is the fact that it isn't a Fender :)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Original setup was fine, but it came with 0.09s (yuck) so it gets even easier to play and easier to sell for the kids. Asked the in-store luthier to fit some 0.11s and set the action and tension on the neck as soon as I bought it. No flaws in the setup, the "made in Brazil" Tagima serier is very trustworthy.

Reliability/Durability : 10
As I mentioned before, it is a battlehorse. Fine Strat copy, and Leo Fender's creatures have proved their worth over time. I've heard those guitars can be improved further on (better bridge, etc), but I see no need for it, given my playing style. I wouldn't gig without a backup because I'm not crazy. Strings do break, you know.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've emailed the factory once a long time ago to ask something, can't remember what. But they answered with a phone number and told me to speak with Tagima himself, so I suppose support's not that bad.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing for about ten years. Own a 74 Fender Mustang, and a Reissue Danelectro U2. If it were stolen, I wouldn't hesitate in buying another one. Heck, I actually want to buy some other Tagima Strats, in different colours, and with a rosewood neck.
The thing I like the best about this guitar is that it is a very good copy of a Fender Stratocaster. Might not be the real deal, but it gets very close and it is very affordable. Plus, it is nice to see factories in Brazil doing an effort to offer a good product for a good price. The quality of instruments in this country got terrible at the end of the 70s, and it remained so until the early 90s, when asian imports invasion set in. Right now what we have is manufacturers who just make their instruments in Asia (Korea, China) and stamp their name. Tagima does that as well one a couple of its series, but the "made in Brazil" series is still fine, being very playable and affordable.

Fender based model
Tagima handmade
3 WSC pickups korea
5 way sw
Ash body, maple neck, hardware vintage(bridge with 5 pins)

Sound : 10
Sound is always the key... no coment, but is strongly better than the "originals...".
Cream sound, crisp soud, clean sound as you prefer.
100% of this taste born by handcraft action of Seiji Tagima put in the brute wood. Love in do it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Thats very difficult to me discribe it. In my poor English I"ve seen so much diferences between "the Originals.." and the Tagima axe. Tagimas sound is best than "other", no because he is picked -up with over coiled full gain pickups, but in other hand because it is perfetly dimentioned, woods and pickups are perfect for it. The turners and the bridge is not a point. Whith a pair of Schaller hardware you assume the sky sound.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
No problems whith it. Just a monkey service of strings change one a month.

Customer Support : 10
The tagima support is personal. As the "the original" says...custom art.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 13 years and you can supose my big setup. Playing this axe in a Fenders, Marshalls, Line 6, Mesa....it is the best sound with I ear. "Originals" excuse me, TAGIMA sounds better....cream full sound....

My strato was made under measure for me, in 1996, here in Brasil, by Tagima. 22 frets, solid top, three controls (1 vol, 2 tones) plus a 5-way selector, just like an american Fender stratocaster. Black body, and the neck even have that stripe in the back. Perfectly finished.

Sound : 10
It has been perfect for my music. It screams very well for punkrock, even better using a Marshall DSL100 and some over drive. You can get brightness sound if you want, but I like it dirty. Anyway, it makes any sound: blues, jazz, rock, solos etc... Sounds perfect for me.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Not much to say: perfectly adjusted, perfect wood, beauty and smooth.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It has been perfect for live action! It's very strong, the painting is perfect until now, just like the bridge and other stuff. It will last forever. Even playing punkrock - jumping, kicking, playing the drums with it - it looks like new. The strap buttons are solid, but I've changed them for that Jim Dunlop Straplok, wich represent no risks at all. But when in live action you'll need another instrument in the backup, but only cause the strings can fail.

Customer Support : 9
Very friendly people, really nice. As I've said, it was made for me, and Tagima has made a great job. Repairs were never needed. 90 days warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I'm using this for the last 5 years. I own other Tagima (Tg 652) and a Fender Telecaster, but Tagima strato is the best for me. I wouldn't change it for anything.
