Satin Finish
Square top dreadnought
Made in China
Laminated top
I don't like the idea of a laminated top, as that means the sound won't get better with age.

I've had this guitar for 1 and a half years and have been playing for 2 and a half. At first, I thought this guitar was lovely. Since then, my liking for the sound has decreased. Bear in mind, this was my first decent guitar.
The major thing is that the bass is too deep. People may say this is a good thing, but it almost drowns out the top 2 strings in chords. I have changed to Martin Extra light strings with no avail. Apart from that, the notes resonate quite nicely for a ??100 guitar.

The action I now realised is POOR. It was WAY too high for about a year, before realizing how to adjust it. Another point, which isn't too relevant is that inside the guitar, you can see glue left out and covers quite a bit of the surface of the guitar. This doesn't show from a regular look inside the sound hole so I wasn't aware of that. Another thing is that on the rosewood fretboard, someone SEEMS to have gone over some scratches with a black permanent marker! THIS is unacceptable but sadly I cannot return this guitar.

It fell on the floor once from leaning on a chair once, and there's now a ding in the neck which doesn't obstruct me, but shows the workmanship. However, the finish looks quite good for the ??100 I paid.

Overall, looking back I would've selected another guitar, maybe a Yamaha, as I only looked at the Tanglewoods as my mate had said they were very good guitars. Sadly this model does not apply. If it were stolen, I'd definitely get another guitar, perhaps something better such as a Seagull or Simon & Patrick. I own a Fender Mexican Strat which I am VERY happy with and now is what I mainly play on. Currently I am looking to buy one of the Seagulls or S&Ps. But it was a good starter guitar but I could find a couple of better guitars out there for that money.

This is a laminated top dreadnought, no electronics. It is a BIG guitar, with a very big sound. The top is a cedar laminate i think, but it has the sound of a solid top. The finish is a very very hardwearing satin, with mahogany sides showing some wonderful grain. The adjustable neck is mahogany also and has a very comfortable shape, making it fairly easy for my short fat fingers to make thier way all around it. The tuners are Tanglewoods copy of Grovers and to be honest they are as good as it gets. They are sealed geared, and they stay in tune no matter what.

WOW! This is a LOUD guitar. This is actually my first decent guitar and I made the right choice. It has a nice boomy voice to it but the bass doesn't overpower the higher notes. Very well balanced sound. I switched the original strings (Sundance) for some Martin 8's and while it is much brighter it still hasn't lost any of its bass. As i said, this is my first decent guitar, taking up the instrument late in life, but a friend of mine has been playing for over 30 years and I took it around to his place to play. Well, that was the last i got to play MY guitar for the rest of the night. He loved it, and I had to make sure that it was in it's case when I left. He wasn't overly familiar with the Tanglewood products and guessed that I had paid between 400 to 600 british pounds for it. When i told him what I paid he almost fell off his stool. He managed to coax sounds out of it that I never imagined it would be capable of. Blues, Rock, Country, you name it, it kicked it out with no problems. In fact, the more he played the more the guitar seemed to warm up. He especially liked that you could feel the resonance from the back of the guitar against his midsection. As far as I know he is online as we speak ordering one of these. He has a Gibson Les Paul, Ovation, Martin, and several that I have never heard of, and he said that it actually has a nicer tone and is easier to play than any of his acoustics (which is why I had to check the case before I left, LOL!!!). There really was nothing that any of us could find to fault with this guitar. My own preferences lean towards Country Blues and Rockabilly and this guitar is going to be wonderful. Strummed or Fingerpicked it handles it all.

This is where it really amazed me. This guitar is made in China (as are most) but this one is actually MADE, not manufactured. I have gone over it again and again, and there are NO flaws in the fit or finish. the rear of the guitar is GORGEOUS, bookmatched Sapelle, with a wonderful satin glow. There are no gaps anywhere, no globs of glue, nothing. It says "handmade" on the label and I believe them, this is a well crafted musical instrument.
The action was set up for me by the guys I bought it from, nice and low, with just a little fret buzz every now and then to let me know I am hitting it too hard. When played properly this thing sings. I am learning fingerpicking and it is a joy to use an instrument like this. The clarity and sustain are wonderful. Intonation is perfect.

I don't know that it will stand live playing, but I imagine that it should if I tried. As far as if it will last, this thing is solid. well made, with a lot of attention to detail. the satin finish has taken some pretty hard knocks already but I can't tell where they were, very very durable. There is only one strap button, plastic, but I have ordered a pair of metal ones, going to add one at the heel and replace the plastic one. Nothing wrong with it, it is strong enough, I just want matching buttons. I am also replacing the pickguard, it is simple, plain, black plastic, so I ordered a rosewood one inlaid with Abalone. This guitar really does deserve it.
Would I gig with this one? Damn right, i feel that it could handle it with ease.

can't say, haven't had to use them, and in all probability I never will.
The guys I bought it from were great though, and if i had any problems they are the first ones I would go to. Great price too, brand new, out the door for LESS THAN HALF THE RRP. Lists for 169 pounds i think.

I have played Banjo before, and a little Vibraphone, but this is my first attempt at really learning guitar, so I would say I have been at it about 3 months.
If this guitar were stolen, I would simply hunt down whoever did it and kick the crap out of them. Failing that I would be on the phone to order EXACTLY the same guitar. I love everything about this guitar, I only wish that it came with a second strap button, thats it. I was looking at a lot of "entry level" guitars from Aria, Yamaha, Fender, Stagg, and others, and I got a chance to try some. When I did, I kept coming back to this one. It just felt right. IF you are looking for a great sounding, well made, good looking guitar then check out this one. Every time I pick it up I know that I made the right choice.
