This is a 2000 special edition 314 with Koa on back and sides. Apart from that it's pretty much a normal 314 (great neck & action). Finish is gorgeous and Koa is unbelievable!!! For $1,300 used in excellent condition, I don't think one can do any better.

Sound : 10
I had Martin D series before, but could not play it very well since I usually play fingerstyle. 314-K fits me much better since it has a wider 3/4 nut. The sound is much more solid than Martin (well known for its warm sound). It simply blows the normal 314 away. Koa back and sides produce a much more balance sound. Comparing to the 6 and 7 series soundwise, I don't think you have a clear winner.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is a little low when I tried it. Not a problem since I had it adjusted right after purchase. It plays like a dream now. Since it is bought used, I do not know if the action is low from factory or not though. Finish is awesome as mentioned above. You need to actually see and feel one to understand what I am talking about.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Seems solid enough to withstand live playing.

Dealt with the company once asking about the limited 2000 edition. Very helpful and was able to answer all my questions.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for almost 10 years now. I have been playing many other brands, Martin, Ovation, Guild but this Taylor beats them all hands down. I could stretch my budget to get the 7 and 8 series, but what for? The sound is not that much different plus I really love the Koa and the simple plain decoration on the 314k. If it were lost or stolen, I will try my best to get a new one since only 300 or so of this were made. I am so surprised how the guys in the previous posts got it for less than $1,000. I guess as time passes by, they will be more valuable?? If you have a chance to get them for that price, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

2000 LOTF 314k with 2 piece back and nicely figured koa. Special inlay in the back. Gloss top, satin sides & back. Not alot of special features but nicely done. Very classly but understated guitar.

Sound : 10
Fantastic sound. Very balanced with a characteristic koa "sparkle" on the highs and mids. This is my wife's guitar and after buying a 314kce for my son, she would not even look at anything other than a Taylor koa.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Flawless finish. Easy to play

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems solid enough. I wonder why the 314k's don't have a rib on the back seam?

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
Fantastic value. All solid wood koa guitar. I have 2 now and planning my next addition. Maybe 310k or 312k?

This is a limited edition Taylor 314-k (Grand Auditorium). Solid sitka spruce top, with Koa back and sides. Mahog neck, ebony fretboard and bridge. No frills as far as special, flashy designs, but it looks great! Came with SKB Hardshell case. Bought it used (less than 1 year old) for $900, and in my opinion, was a steal!

Sound : 9
Like all Taylors, this guitar sounds great! It really has an amazingly "crisp" and accurate sound to it. Whether you're picking or strumming, it really has the ability to cut through anything. The KOA is a nice feature as well - I personally like it better than a solid Mahog. guitar. Very bright and even sounding overall.
This one did not come with electronics, but I plan on adding them eventually, and have heard very good things about Taylors "plugged in". I enjoy the sound of this guitar the more I play it!!!
When shopping around, I was choosing between a Taylor and a similar priced Martin. Although the Martin (J-1) is a great guitar, I have absolutely NO regrets about the Taylor.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Incredible action and neck design (as Taylor's are known for). This particular model features the new Taylor neck design.
I'm definitely a novice guitar player (5 years), but the Taylor has improved my guitar playing dramatically. It really almost plays itself! The Elixir strings (although more expensive) really make a difference, and add to the sound and feel of this Taylor.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is incredibly well made. It seems like Taylor pays attention to even the smallest details. The tuners are well made, no glue residue anywhere on the guitar. The top is scratch free (even adter a few dings), and the hardshell case is pretty durable. No complaints whatsoever. I can't wait until it ages!

Customer Support : 10
Haven't had any customer support issues, but Taylor has a VERY user friendly website. You can download all sorts of instant "tech sheets" from their site to answer most questions. Even simple questions like restringing your guitar are available on-line. They seem very helpful...

Overall Rating : 10
Again, I consider myself a novice (5 years of playing), but I would definitely endorse this guitar for ALL player levels. It has improved my playing dramatically.
When shopping for a guitar, I probably played 30-40 of them, some of them a lot more expensive than this Taylor. But, it would definitely hold it's own to anything in it's price range, and many guitars that are more expensive (including other Taylor's). The only change I would make next time is to get the JUMBO version, instead of the Grand Auditorium - I personally like the "bigger" body style, although the Grand Aud. has no problem with volume.
