2003 - spruce top, rosewood back and sides with Taylor's new pickup system - the usual taylor case. I picked this up while wasting time at the Guitar Center and I didn't stop playing it for 2 hours, and I put a down payment on it immediately. While I was surprised to find a worthy acoustic at Guitar Center, I was even more surprised at how well it was set up. Generally, I find Guitar Center acoustics to be set up poorly and play worse. This is a Taylor though, so perhaps not that surprising. This guitar plays like a 6 string.
I found out later that it was one of 50 or so made (so did the guitar center manager who kept calling me to see if I was still interested because "other buyers" were asking about it) - most of the 455 series have ovangkol back and sides.

Unbelievably beautiful shimmering sound - I played it against a Martin 12 string and it was no contest. I had already bought my "nice" acoustic (a Lowden) but when I sat down and heard this guitar, I had to buy it. Plays very well up the neck, stay in tune - just amazing.

It has the great action that Taylors are known for... It plays like a six string. No flaws, beautiful woods.

Solid guitar, great finish. I treat it gently though....

I called Taylor when I was hemming and hawing about whether I wanted to buy the guitar - very friendly and informative.

Been playing for 12 years - my other acoustic gutiars are a Lowden 012, Seagull S6, Lyon & Healy 1900s parlor. This is a keeper...
Great guitar - if it were stolen I would be out of luck - there aren't any others out there that I have seen - too rare. The 445CE is nice, but I think the rosewood on this model makes all the difference.
