310ce is all solid wood constructed guitar the top is sitka spruce and side and back is awesome mahagony. The pickguard is cool, grover tuner, oh yes Fishman prefix is a must for a good acoustic guitar like Taylor.

Sound : 9
many well known guitar dont really come close this lowest series in the Taylor guitars family, Imagine you got the higher ones. The tone is well balanced and low end is just perfect, it just awesome.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought it at second hand but to my surprice it's action was 100% comfortable and it fits my little asian chinese hand pretty and I just enjoy holding it. The pick up is the state of the art kind of thing, cause Fishman knows what he is doing being an acoustic player himself. The bridge is beautifully shape

Reliability/Durability : 10
BoB Taylor just know what we need when it comes to acoustic guitar some guitar maker are not very sensitive in thier approach in guitar making, in terms of durability you can trust in Taylor guitar no complaint so far those that I came to who are using Taylor for both leisure and professional. It stands in season and out of season

Customer Support : 9
no problem at all, the dealer in Singapore and Malaysia is here to help at anytime

I just bought a Taylor 310CE and I think I'm in love. I don't know if the bass player's review is still up but like he said, they make you want to play them. Alright fine, so it's a 300 series and it's not made of rainforest wood, it's still a decent looking guitar and it sounds like a $5000 Martin.
This model comes with the Taylor Prefix Preamp, which other people have said they don't like, but I find it to be more than enough for me (even when recording direct to ProTools). It offers EQ's, countour, brilliance, notch, volume, and phase control (VERY USEFUL). If you don't know what phase is, the manual explains it as well as most recording books.
As for other features... It's got Grover tuners (which in my opinion should be on every guitar made), 20 frets (17 of which are accessible, good for an acoustic), and of course a Piezo pickup. It also came with a truss rod wrench and a beautiful case.

This form isn't letting put a rating in for features, but I'd put it at about 9.5.

Sound : 10
It's a Taylor, so of course, I bought it for the tone. It has a very full balanced tone. It's a little bright for my taste, but that is just a function of newness. It's impossible for me to fully explain it's sound, you're just going to have to go listen to one.
One piece of advice, get the dreadnought. I don't like playing the big clunky ones as much, but they sound substantially better. Don't get me wrong, any Taylor will sound great, but due to their increased size and its effect on the properties of sound in acoustic guitars, the dreadnoughts sound slightly better. (unplugged that is, if you're just gigging or recording direct, it won't matter)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The factory setup was very good. The truss rod was adjusted, string height was high enough to give it some of the punch necessary for a good acoustic sound, but low enough to make the guitar easily playable even up to the 17th fret. Bends can be a little tough at first, but that is going to be the case on any acoustic with enough string tension to really project.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I haven't the foggiest idea about durability, I've only had the guitar for a week. It feels very solid and I would feel comfortable gigging with just this guitar if I absolutely had to. (on no uncertain terms should you go to a show with less than two guitars unless you absolutely have to, that's just a rule)
One problem that I've had in the past has been straps slipping off buttons, no risk of that here. The strap on the butt of the guitar is huge (kind of a pain to get the damn thing on at first, this is of course by design) and the strap at the base of the neck is at such an angle that it is highly unlikely that a strap will ever come off. It's attention to small details like these that really make Taylors as fabulous as they are.

Customer Support : 9
It'll probably never be an issue, but I wouldn't be worried if it ever became one. If their customer support reps are half as nice as their guitar, it'd be a breeze to deal with them.
They also allow you to register your name with them so that in the unlikely event of theft, they can send your name and the guitar's serial number to dealers and get your guitar back. I was told this works in 50-60% of reported cases, great considering.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for seven years and I finally decided it would be nice to hear an acoustic around the house. When I went to shop for this guitar I brought my friend's father who was a semi professional musician and now has his own studio (in addition to perfect pitch and a great ear). He had done some research a few months back and came to the same conlcusion that I did, Taylor.
I would also like to mention that this man still has his vintage 60's Martin and thinks the Taylor is far and away the better guitar (in sound and playability).

I own a 2000 Taylor 310ce upgraded with a Fishman Onboard Blender system (piezo and mini internal condensor microphone). I also upgraded the case from SKB-style to the Taylor hardshell, which I love. This acoustic is 100% ALL SOLID WOOD, which is why I decided on a Taylor after 3 years+ of researching which acoustic guitar was right for me. The body, neck and headstock are Sapelle "mahogany", the top is Sitka "spruce", and the fretboard and bridge are ebony.
It came with a truss rod tool and several pamphets about truss rod adjustments, moisture care, etc. Limited lifetime warranty.

Sound : 10
I play folk, rock, etc and this guitar sounds amazing. The Fishman system sounds great for recording, when both the piezo and microphone are combined. I have received nothing but praise for the sound of this instrument from musicians and listeners alike, and have loved the sound of this guitar in the studio. It sounds huge, warm, and full, like an acoustic guitar should. I would recomend this model as a first acoustic guitar to anyone serious about the instrument.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
When this guitar arrived (direct from Taylor), it was perfectly in tune. The fishman system took some time to tweak but I now know what I like and how to get "the sound" out of it. I have owned the instrumnet since early May of 2000, and it has never been in the shop. I have done a few truss rod adjustments by myself, but I am no repair guy. I have also moved from .012s to .013s, since I play in open tunings a whole lot. I feel that the instrument needs to go in the shop for a tweak and such. The action could be better in spots, but overall it was my beating the instrument on a daily basis for the past 18 months+ that has led to it falling a little from grace. I would love to purchase a 514ce and keep the 310ce in open G fulltime, having it permanantly setup for this tuning. Overall, it still plays great and stays in tune very well for an instrument that has been played for two years with no shop visits, daily tuning changes, and a string guage switch for which nothing was done to compensate.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is the bee's knees. I baby the sh*t out of it though it travels wherever I do. One small scratch barely noticable on the top, and indentations in the neck from a thumb ring. It adds to the vibe. I love this thing! I have also kept a humidifier in it for the past two years, and elixers on it. I change strings about every 3-4 months, unless I am recording. It keep it's tone and tune.

Customer Support : 10
I've dealt with Taylor many a time as a salesman and they excel at customer support. I ordered direct from them and they custom built me this instrument with the upgrade in electronics and such. It has a limited lifetime warranty which I believe covers manufacturer's defects. Whatever. They are a wonderful company. I would recomend them, and do, to everyone. Even when I called about having them custom build me a guitar with a mohogany top, they were to the point about getting me all of the info I needed. Great company.

Overall Rating : 10
I'll never sell it, and I'll definitely buy another Taylor when I can afford it. It was worth the research and the wait, and I love it more than any Martin that I have ever played (though they are also fine instruments), and WAY MORE than any Takamine what I ever played, which is what I was planning on getting several years before I purchased a my 310ce. To me, you just can't go wrong with a Taylor. I would recomend the 514ce as their finest instrument.

This is a single cutaway solid top, dreadnaught style accoustic guitar with a Fishman piezo pickup, with a solid spruce top. Included was a nice hardshell case and a little tool for adjusting the neck.. which I've needed more than I've wanted. More on that later.

Sound : 5
This guitar, played as an accoustic has a fairly rich sound. It's about average for a new guitar in this price range. However, when played through an amplifier, the pickup shows a distinct lack of uniformity.. for instance, both high and low E strings are barely audible, while the center strings, such as D and G are too loud.
That's unfortunate because the electronics, built into the Evanko body (that's some kind of African wood) work very nicely.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 2
Action? This is a miserable instrument. I've gotten to where I hate to play it. The action is so high it hurts my fingers.. and I've played accoustic guitars for 35 years. I asked my local dealer to do another setup.. even shaving down the saddle a bit.. but it didn't help.
I'm aware of the fact that this is Taylor's entry level guitar but there's no reason for the action to be so high. Yes, I've adjusted the neck in hopes of improving the action and I severe string buzz.
As for fit and finish, it's a beautifully finished, which makes it's playability ever the more remarkable.

Reliability/Durability : 6
While I doubt I'll own it long enough to find out, I'm sure this is a durable guitar. It looks great, sounds okay, plays like a brick.

Everytime I play this guitar, I ask myself why I bought it. I wanted an accoustic electric and had read a slew of positive Reviews on Taylors here on this site. I also own a Martin J40 which plays like a dream, a Larrivee Parlor which is also fine, easy to play little guitar and as a few electrics. As for my gripes, I should disclose that I haven't yet contacted Taylor, or even complained to the Guitar shop where I bought it. If I can somehow make this guitar easier to play, I'll try to amend my comments... But right now, If this guitar were stolen tomorrow, I'd probably have a great laugh.

This is a follow up to my earlier review, after repeated calls to taylor and the guitar shop about my problem, I finally got Taylor to take this guiar back. This is list of what they did to it- Re-set the neck, adjusted the intonition, re-dressed the frets, and relaced bridge saddle, & replaced strings. So I finaly got them to admit there was something wrong with this guitar.

Now here is my beef, I now this is there bottom of the line guitar, and I'm sure I would have gotten a faster, more polite responce, instead of "that's how it's sopposed to be set up". But I did pay $1400.00 dollars for this guitar, and that's a lot of money for anybody. And I am extreamly dissapionted that Taylor sent out a guitar in this shape. And also I never recieved so much as a appoligy from taylor, for all of may incovience, and frustration.

The gutiar do play like it should, but would I buy another Taylor, probabilly not. Despite the great tone the attitude towards my proplem, (I assume becuase it is only a 310ce), and there complete lack of q.c. for such a highly reputed company as this, to send out a guitar in this condition is to say the least dissipionting, and has left a extreamly bad taste in my mouth toward taylor, & feel very uncomfortable recominding a taylor to anyone.

A/E Cut away. I could not have picked a bigger waste of $1400.00 than this guitar. I will explain later, but I can't belive all the good reviews about taylor after my experence with this guitar.

Sound : 10
The only good thing I can say about this guitar that it does have a rich full sound, way better than a martin.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
This is the worst setup guitar I have ever seen, I feel like I have been raped by taylor. It is impossible to set up this guitar, the guitar was tuned down 1 whole step when I bought it, as soon as I got it home and tuned it up everything went to crap. the action at the 12th fret is weel over 1\2 inch if you make any truss rod adjustment ant all it starts buzzing like crazy. The electronic pickup is weak and frail sounding. Basiclly I have had this guitar for the months and every time I pick it up to play it all I want to do is smash it against the wall I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reliability/Durability : 1
Unajustable. Can not get it set up.

Customer Support : 1
Taylor has basicly toldme that they are unwilling to do anything to help me and that I have to go through the store I bought it from, and they are I bunch of crooks.

Never ever under any circustances will I ever by another taylor. The 2$200.00 fender korin know off is set up much better than this peice of crap.

2000 model 310ce. This has just about everything you'll need on an acoustic guitar. I love the Fishman Prefix onboard eq. I get great sound when this guitar is plugged up. It would be nice if it had an onboard tuner.

Sound : 10
I play Chet Atkins style guitar. The sound from this guitar is great. Unplugged, it's one of the best sounding acoustics on the market today. Plugged, you can do just about anything with it. I can get a bright, bouncy sound with a couple tweaks of the equalizer, or with a few more tweaks, get a great mellow jazzy sound that I've rarely heard from an acoustic guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The first time I played this guitar, It almost felt like an electric guitar. The action very low, which I prefer to a higher action. I replaced the Elixer medium gauge strings with Elixer light guage strings (Taylor recommends that med gauge be left on). I can play some very fast runs all over the neck. The finish on this guitar is absolutely beautiful. The pearl inlay dots are kind of boring, but I didn't have the cash for a presentation series!

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar is built very strong. It features the new Taylor neck design (you can order a video from taylor to check it out), which puts me at ease if I ever have to work on the neck. My only complaint is that after about a month of owning this guitar, some minor scratches became visible. This was mostly my fault though, not Taylor's.

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A. Never had to deal with Customer Support.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 3+ years. I've owned several different guitars, but when I picked up this one, I knew it had to be mine. I would definitely replace this guitar if it were stolen, perhaps with a higher-end Taylor. I love everything about this guitar. In my opinion, you can't compare many high end acoustic guitars to Taylor's. I would consider buying a different brand guitar, but I think that's just because I love guitars.

Made in El Cajun, Ca, July 2000.
All solid sapele mahogany/sitka spurce dreadnought with cutaway. Sapele neck with wonderful ebony fingerboard. Ebony bridge, indian rosewood headstock overlay. Black plastic binding on front/back+white and black plastic rosette inlay. Fishman Matrix pickup with fishman preamp (master volume, bass/semi-parametric mid/treble EQ, easy battery access).
Hi-gloss lacquer finish on the almost 3D top, comfy satin finish on back, sides and neck.
The neck isn't thin for an acoustic, but is the fastest I've ever played.
Guitar came with SKB made Taylor case, adjusting tools and docs.
It is a no-frills yet elegant guitar, I could only ask for a condensor mic w/preamp (but that would kick up the price).

Sound : 9
I mainly play classical, flamenco and jazz. The guitar is incredibly easy to play with or without a pick (9 out of 10 times I play fingerstyle). The notes come out rich and balanced thanks to the incredible construction and the high quality woods. Bass are strongs yet not overwhelming, and the treble notes sing richly.
The piezo is amazing - I expected it to be a lot more harsh and shrill, yet it reproduces all the nuances of my playing, even in open air, big services (3000 W and more) gigs. I just can't imagine how good it would sound with a dual source system, which I could probably install (I still have to think about it...I might get it on my next Taylor!)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The guitar is equipped with .013 strings, yet plays without the smallest effort (and I haven't strong hands at all-I'm not 18...).
It played right out of the box, and that is incredible considering it had been shipped from california to milan, Italy, and Genoa, where I live...However I had to file the G tuner as it kept sawing off the strings when changing tunings. That chops down a point...

Reliability/Durability : 9
I use the guitar live w/out a backup, as it is reliable-it won't let you down. Make sure to bring an extra 9v battery for the preamp, just in case.
With proper care, this guitar will last and even get better w/ the time.
Watch out: the finish of the top is EXTREMELY easy to damage: I have one tiny dent near the top binding caused by a stupid accident! ARGH!
Anyhow, the only thing to be affected from such things will be your heart...

Customer Support : No Opinion
never dealt w/ them
Praise to the distributor and my retailer: they got me a great price as I was their first customer from a freshly open shop

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for 9 years (such tender an age!).
I own a heavily modded Ibanez JS100, an ADA mp1 and a Marshall JCM900.
A custom made electric is upcoming.
This guitar won hands down against Martins, Guilds, Tacomas and Yamahas in its price range and above. I chose it for the features it offered-way more, and better ones, at a lower price. In italy it's hard to find an American made all solid acoustic for less than 1500$.
Yep, it's a hard life. This guitar kicks butts, it doesn't offer all the flashy cosmetics of the more expensive models (love'em or loathe'em- I can't stand'em) but sports great playability and the richest, soulful tone you could get for the price. Buy it, lucky american guys who can find them for half of what I had to pay it. You won't regret it. If you can, get a dual source system. You'll be in acoustic heaven. I give it a 9 for quality against price.

20 fret electric acoustic dreadnought, made in the USA. Solid sitka spruce top, solid sapele mahogany sides. Ebony fretboard and bridge. Gloss top, satin back and sides. Fishman Prefix preamp. Strung with Elixir 13's. I would have liked the Prefix Plus or Blender preamp, but I take care of preserving the sound in other ways.(see below)

Sound : 9
This guitar has a beautiful, balanced tone. Its much more balanced than the Martin I had for a month (DC-1E). The Martin was much boomier on the bass side, which drowns out the highs. This guitar sings beautifully throughout the entire range. Reacts equally well to a lead line as it does to heavy strumming. As I mentioned above, the preamp could be better, but to get that "blender" effect, I simply run the guitar directly into the PA, and also set up a condenser mic about 4-6 inches from the sound hole. I run the mic into the same channel, and use the mic/line balance to control the brilliance and resonance that comes through. Overall a beautiful sounding guitar, my only qualm is the preamp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Setup was AMAZING, Bob and the boys do an excellent job. The action is low, but not so low that it's sloppy. Easy to fret. Its such a joy to play. You have to play one to understand. The finish was spectacular. I wish the guitar came in the brilliant colors of the 600 series, but I was on a budget, and this does the job. Beautiful finish. No complaints in this department.

Reliability/Durability : 9
It withstands live playing 1 to 2 times a week, the hardware is more than solid. The finish is the work of an expert. Strap buttons...solid. I gig without a backup, I can, and do depend on it. Its an acoustic, it needs a gentle user. I baby mine. (humidifier, case kept, away from heater)

Customer Support : 10
Lifetime warranty, haven't had a problem yet. Frankly, I don't intend to. It gets a 10, based on the warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
Before you take into consideration how many years I've been playing, you have to take into account that I play live 1 to 2 times a week, playing all original songs. I have recorded, and have had my music played on the radio. I have only been playing 3 and a half years. I own an Ibanez JS-100 electric (horrible instrument, if you ask me), A Fender Twin ('78), A Fender passport 250 PA, and minimal effects. If this were stolen, I'd upgrade to a 600 series guitar, mainly for looks and the preamp. This guitar is THE BEST in its price range. The only thing that can rival it are the upper end Gibsons and Martins. Wonderful Guitar.

This is a 1999 taylor acoustic/electric with a cutaway body.20 frets, ebony fretboard & bridge.Thin neck profile, fishman pre-amp system installed.I believe the wood is mahogany and spruce.satin finish.came with a nice hard shell case, and paperwork on how to take care of it,also a truss rod wrench, that was a nice addition.

I went one day,a few moons ago,to get a new acoustic guitar.I checked out several guitars from martin, takamine, gibson, ovation, etc;I was not gonna leave without one & money was no object, well I wasn't gonna spend my life's savings but ya know what I mean here.
I play mostly rock and country some classical on acoustic and I wanted one that would cover all styles,I was wanting a cutaway to reach the high notes.after a few hours I realized this was my baby!!
Unplugged this thing sounded so true I could not stop playing it.True, you lose some bass end on a cutaway, but, this one had a nice balance.A very full sounding guitar.plugged in it is also a beauty,it also has pure tone. The fishman system compliments it well. The thing plays good strumming, but i love to finger this thing to death.she just moans with delight everytime i play with her,Ha..Ha.Fretting chords are a breeze on this thing.truly a classic.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got mine straight out of the box, never played.the action was nice, but as always a player needs to make adjustments to his or her liking. It was stung up with 12's,by elexir, but I changed them to 10's by Addamas'.Ijust love there feel and there response to my fingers.the top, back and sides were all matched up nicely, and no flaws i can see.frets are nice and level. The people at Taylor are real impressive in this regard.

Reliability/Durability : 9
All things on this sweetie, look reliable and durable.on gigs i have had no problems.i would gig this thing without a back up.the satin finish on the sides scare me a little, looks like it could dent easily so i take extra special care with it.The jack is in the strap button,so i wonder if it will hold up,but i have faith in it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Only dealings with the company i have had was to turn in the warranty,so not much to say here.5 year warranty

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing acoustic for 11 years now.when I started playing i figured that acoustic was the way to learn. It gave me a real sense of tones.A little tip to future pickers, start with nylon strings, you can play longer on them and they will help round out your callouses on your fingertips. It has made a world of difference to me.When I started learning, a year later the unplugged thing became popular, and it was nice to play sing-a-longs with friends.
Enough Personal stuff,I also own an ovation not electric and no cutaway.Sounds nice, but not in a league with my Taylor. The martins were nice too,but this thing sounded too sweet to say goodbye to.I would most certainly buy it again. The gibsons were nice,And I am a GIBSON fanatic, but unless I wanted to spend 2000+,I got a similar,if not better sound out of this baby.I can't wait till it ages for a few more years,it gets better by the day.
