1966 ET-440 saved from being parted out. Replaced nut, frets, and pots. Still needs fine-tuning on the setup. Although I was told the mahogany body would look great with a refinish, I left it the original creme color. Has numerous finish checks and chipped paint. Has 3 way selector which rotates all the way around( perhaps more than 3 options) as well as the toggle switches for the 4 PUPs. Tone knob is reversed as mentioned elsewhere.

Sound : 10
Although I am still experimenting, I am very pleased with the wide variety of tones. It can go from twangier than a Tele on the Bridge PUP to a super extreme bass that I can't quite compare to any of the dozens of guitars I own. For me, this super rich bass is where I plan to use it the most.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Obviously, this guitar is far from it's factory setup which was done 40 years ago, if at all.

If you know Teisco guitar's, they are not the highest quality. The frets wear easily and were almost gone before this one was refretted with better wire.

Reliability/Durability : 7
This guitar is not in live playing shape yet. Since the electronics were reworked, I wouldn't hesitate to play it live once it's setup right.

There are two holes in the neck where 2 strap buttons have been but there are currently none installed. Because of the sharp radius on the lower bout, that strap button is also gone and will be harder to find a new place for installation.

As I said above, much of the finish is checked or missing, however; I have other Teisco's that look like they were dragged behind a car to several gigs and they still play fine so I think the woodwork is pretty solid (aside from a few plywood models that I don't own)

OOB in 1969 after joining with KAWAI. Too Bad

Overall Rating : 8
I have too much gear to list but have been playing this one through a tube amp (epiphone junior combo) so far. I plan to try it through some other amps once I get the setup fine-tuned.

I really love the deep bass tones and the overall variety of sounds that this guitar produces. It's too bad they never made a real good neck. Probably would replace the original neck with a MM Tele or Strat neck if I decided I was going to play it a ton.

The 2 PUP ones are plentiful but these are fairly scarce from what I've seen. If you can get over the fret issue, I would reccomend picking up anyone you may encounter.

Cheapo 60?s Japanese guitar before they started copying high end American guitars. Four single coil pickups with on-off rockers switches for each one, a rhythm/solo switch (essentially a treble boost/cut), master volume and tone knobs (the tone knob is wired backwards for some reason), whammy bar. Roughly strat style body but shorter and fatter. Exact date of manufacture is anyone?s guess.

Sound : 8
Surprisingly wide range of sounds between the four pickups (if my math?s correct ? that?s 15 different pickup configurations), rhythm/solo switch and tone knob. From very scratchy to very smooth. Always reminds me of old Lou Reed with the Velvet Underground. Good for lo-fi indie rock.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I found this at a flea market and the neck was still pretty straight. Haven?t had it set up since I got it (though I probably should) and it plays fine. V-shaped neck. Nice sunburst color with tough metal pickguard.

Reliability/Durability : 8
For a cheap guitar from the (mid- or late-) 60?s it?s held up quite well. All four pickups work, no scratchy pots, straight neck, nice sound. I don?t play live - just record with it. It?s pretty light and the body feels a little thin to me. Not really the kind of thing you?d want to bash away on.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I hear Teisco?s back in business and reissuing some of their old 60?s guitars (but not this one). No customer support to speak of.

Overall Rating : 8
A cool little guitar if you can still find them cheap. I?ve seen this exact guitar (and not in as good shape) going for $300 - $350. Not sure if it?s worth that though. If it got stolen I?d be pretty bummed but definitely wouldn?t pay that for another one. For all its cool features it?s still, however, a cheap entry level guitar and doesn?t necessarily feel like it was made with the best craftsmanship or like it was made to last. But then again I guess that?s kind of the point with a guitar like this.

Made in Japan, Tele-style solid hardwood contoured body - not too heavy. Strong striaght hardwood laminated neck with fast action.
4 pickups that can be raised or lowerered to get a wide variety of sounds.

Whammy bar works and sounds great. Roller bridge is simple and strong. The guitar does not go out of tune easily.

Sound : 10
Can be the cleanest of Clean or the king of dirty. Great Blues sound.
Has a hollow cavity under the pick guard that gives the pick-ups a "gohsty" hollow body sound when played on a clean channel.
Using it with a Marshal mini-stack.
Because of the hollow space the guitar does give some nice (bad if you don't want it) feedback when facing the amp.
The floating pickups are easily adjusted and fun to play around with.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
For a 40 year old guitar it is solid. I have an Epiphone LP and Casino and it is in as good shape as the new stuff.
It was kept with love.

Reliability/Durability : 9
NICE.
Old tuners still hold.
The gold fake shine has worn off of some of the fittings but there is no rusting. Looks better dull.
It's hang it on the wall stand it in the corner with a house full of kids - throw it in you trunk - rugged

owned for 1 year so far. made in 60's in japan. 23 frets. 3-way selector with 4 other slider bars and a tone and volume knob. 4 single coil. don't know wood types. strat style. non-locking tuners (suck). standard features of time it was produced.

Sound : 4
I play garage rock / punk / jazz mixed together. I use a marshall jcm900 and 4x12 with celestions. VERY NOISY on all settings. pretty bright sound but not very full. for all the sliders, and settings I can't produce a great variety.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
setup was horrible but completely expected. dents and what not after years. had re-set-up at local shop.

Reliability/Durability : 3
I wouldn't use it live because I have a better sounding squire II strat than this. the finish is attractive sunburst. strap buttons work well. never gig with it.

been playing 10 years I own squire II strat, fender jagaur (best ever), and a epi. les paul. jcm900 4x12 cab w/ celestions, and vox pathfinder 15 practice amp (quality solid state amp). if it were stolen I'd laugh at the idiot who stole it, I need to downsize anyway, can only play one at a time. I would compare it with the lowest end guitar I have which would be the squire II and that isn't even a fair comparison. I wish I only paid $15, then I would smash it and not feel bad.
