This is a 2005 or so Re-issure of the 60's Spectrum guitar similar to the Spectrum V except it only has two pairs of pickups instead of three (with associated switching/electronics differences), it has a different vibrato, no body binding, different tuners, and dot inlays on the neck instead of the triangular style.

The neck, headstock and body are red metallic. It has die cast tuners, 1 each volume and tone, three "Spectrum" switches with one on/off each for the two pickup pairs and one that puts a capacitor in circuit to bleed off some treble, silk screened pickguard with Spectrum written below strings and a vine/flower design above strings, and and Old Style Snake Teisco log on the headstock.

It uses a stock Teisco style vibrato with one spring. The vibrato is a low rent Bigsby style that is OK for warbling, but not much else. It also makes the guitar very hard to restring in a hurry since it is hard to see/find the holes to put the strings through! (Try it on a gig in the dark and you'll find it is great at inducing profanity!)

The main feature of these beasts are the looks and the cool split pickups. Much like a P-bass pickup for guitar each pickup has a coil that senses three strings, so they are arranged in pairs. One pair for the bridge and one pair for the neck. Each coil is labled North and South on the bottom and together theoretically form a humbucking pair, but with the single coil sound and "quack". Very cool.

Sound : 10
If you've heard Van Halen's "Finish What You've Started" than you know the Ultra-Cool spanky tone of the Teisco Spectrum guitars. They have a gorgeous quack to them without being thin or shrill. Lovely! The tone is what these guitars are all about, and they look COOL!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Got it used so N/A. But, it plays very nice with VERY low action and good intonation. The neck is a little wider than most Fender style necks, which is great by me! Everything works as it should. The only drawback is the cheapo vibrato that is hard to restring, but I can live with that.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Given average care it will keep going for decades!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Huh?

Overall Rating : 10
The looks and the tone are where this thing is at. If you love those then it's a 10. If not...............
