Features : 9
Chinese made (2009), Les Paul replica, Set neck, 2 x PAF humbuckers, 22 frets, brown sunburst.

Sound : 10
Lovely tone, lots of sustain, sound nice even when not amplified, sounds good when recorded, very les Paul like.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Very low action couple of minor fret buzzes at top of neck, plays very nicely. Generally well finished, one slightly loose volume control (30 seconds to sort out). extremely well made for a 300 quid guitar but not perfect

Reliability/Durability : 9
Seems very solid, I have no gigged it yet but put in some extensive playing, the sort of guitar you do not put down for three hours solid. I never gig with out a backup as I always break strings, but I doubt the guitar it self would let you down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Not used but the tokai registry is very usefull

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing 27 years, also have a charvel MIJ super start and just sold an ESP LTD explorer. I use a Marshall Valve state 80 watt combo, zoom multi effects. This guitar is better than the charvel and way better than the ESP. I have played worse Gibsons and much worse epiphones. I am hugely impressed with this and it is taking over from my charvel as my main guitar ( I thing I thought would never happen) I had a tokia MIJ strat in the 80s this reminds me of it in terms of build and playbilty. When I get it set up it will be an amazing guitar, it is an excellently guitar as it stands, recommended! If this was stolen I would be gutted and would defiantly buy an other!

- Made in 2009, says "Made in china" back of the headstock.

- 22 frets

- Laminated top

- default les paul controls.

- 2 PAF style humbuckers (these ones are great, much better than i expected).

- Mahogany neck and alder body. (Tokai web site says the body material is Alder or Mahogany).

Sound : 9
I like the sound, it sounds like a les paul, a bit brighter than a Gibson lp standard that i have played.

It suits well for all music styles.

Im using it with a laney TF700 head + roland 4x12 cab.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This guitar had excellent set-up, it was set up in the store i bought it, so dont know about factory set-ups.

Only thing that im a bit suspicious is the nut. but no problems with that yet.

Reliability/Durability : 8
im sure it will last long, but its not a gibson that last a lifetime.

This is a black 08 Korean made Tokai 'love rock'. It has a maple top, a mahogany/alder back and a set mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard. You know when you pick this guitar up its the real deal, it weighs a fair bit but nothing that you couldn't cope with over maybe an hours set. Classic les paul type tuners, however I found them a tad flimsy so swapped them for some grovers. 2 PAF-Vintage MK4 pickups with a three way selector switch, trapezoid inlays on the 22 fret fretboard. More info on the tokai site.

Sound : 10
I play predominantly blues/rock and more recently have been hauled in to play a bit of pop/rock. I run the guitar through a Marshall solid state combo in to a Marshall distortion pedal and a dunlop crybaby. The pickups surprised me when I plugged this in, there is no unwanted hum or background noise at all. The neck position is great for saturated lead tones but can get a bit muddy with too much gain. The bridge pickup is a classic high output PAF and brightens the tone, lifting the treble for a similarly good lead tone. Roll the volume knob down and the guitar cleans up real nice. Very versatile and great middle position for rhythm playing.

The shop I bought it from set it up when I bought so I'm not sure how it was out of the factory. The finish is a lovely classic black and had no imperfections whatsoever. The binding aswell is great, finished really well, looks fantastic aesthetically against the black of the body. Like I said earlier I swapped over the machine heads, however this was just for peace of mind, the stock ones were useable. I've also fitted some straplocks, but again simply personal.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've already gigged with it and it was fabulous. So it definately withstands live playing. It feels so solid and you know instantly that the materials used are great. The hardware I think is eitehr nickel or chrome but I know for a fact that it will last longer than gold. This guitar is very dependable and have had no problems with it whatsoever. I would gig this guitar without a backup.

Never had to deal with Tokai.

I've been playing for 6 years and own a Fender mexican tele and a usa strat. I thought I needed a guitar which offered humbuckers so naturally I thought les paul. I didn't really want to go for a Gibson as am about to go to uni. This guitar is way better than any epiphones I played and the price is superb, excellent value for money. One thing I would say though is that after I had played mine for a month or so i noticed that the fretboard was quite dry. I applied some Jim dunlop lemon oil every time I changed the strings and it has worked wonders. The frets are now a lovely deep brown and the playability has improved loads. If your looking in the market for a les paul guitar and have checked out the epi's make sure you look at Tokai before making any descision. Overall fantastic guitar!

This is a 07, Korean made, Tokai Love Rock. Standard Les Paul features: a flame maple top with an alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, slightly more rounded than a 60's Gibson taper neck, 22 frets, PAF style humbuckers, Tune-O-Matic bridge, vintage Kluson style tuners, two volume and two tone controls.

Sound : 9
I play alot of rock-AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, ZZ Top, Van Halen and this guitar is perfect for my needs. I use no effects (just me, my guitar and amp, a 100 watt solid state combo). There is no unwanted hum or background noise, and the tone produced from the bridge humbucker is clear and biting. The neck pick-up is a bit muddy however, but doesn't bother me any. The sound produced from this guitar is great for blues and rock.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The guitar was set up well from the store i bought it, hasn't needed any modifications at all. The neck pick-up is a bit low however, and I may have to raise that in the future. The flame is awesome! That is one of the first things my mates said when they saw it at band practise :D. The flame is a bit 'weak' in some parts, but beggars can't be choosers! Overall, the finish is a top notch job.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This guitar would withstand anything! It's built like a tank, and is quite weighty. The hardware and finish seem quite durable. As soon as I got it I put on some DiMarzio Straplocks. I would definately use this guitar at a gig without a backup.

I havent dealt with Tokai

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing music for five or six years and this is my second guitar. If this guitar was stolen (God forbid) I would not hesitate in buying another Love Rock. I love the colour and flame, the tone and just the general playability this guitar gives me. It just feels natural in my hands. If you love Les Pauls, dont look past the Tokai range just because they're Asian made. Let your hands and ears do the judging, not what is on the headstock.

-I play many kinds of music, mostly rock/blues. Guitar suits well for that kind of music. For Trash/heavy this would'nt the best choise, maybe with EMG-pickups... LesPaul really isn't most comprehensive guitar, but if you play music like Guns N'Roses, Dire Straits or simply good rock n'roll, this is your guitar!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
-Tuners are quite bad. They resonance on some chords, which is irritating while playing without amp... But everything else seems to be ok, Finishing and stuff like that is great!

Reliability/Durability : 8
-This seems really durable guitar. I've had it only for a year, but I've played it a lot. I can't say would this guitar be as good as now after 10 years, but you can always buy a new one :)

-I have never had to deal with company...luckily

I have played Epiphones, but this is way better. I think for this money you simply can't get better LesPaul. And well, for $500 you cant go wrong...

Korean-made gold top. Normal Les Paul features. Lovely comfortable neck, not too fat.

Sound : 8
i play a variety of styles and this thing copes with them all admirably.Good rich tones,LOADS better than the Epiphones i've owned and played.i have never owned a les paul, but i have played a few,and while the love rock isn't as full-sounding as a les paul it isn't far off...and nothing like as preposterously-priced.The japenese-made guitars must be awesome.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
No problems with the set-up. Very good straight out of the box.

Reliability/Durability : 8
i fully expect this guitar to withstand any amount of live playing.
i seldom play any gig without a backup because that is asking for trouble, but i have total confidence in the this love rock.

I play mostly heavy/hard music. My guitar's got the EMG's, the stock PAF-vintage MK4 pickups aren't that great. I play it through a Marshall tube combo, no fx-pedals. Sounds great.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set-up on this one is very good.... no complains. Good electronics, stays in tune.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've been playing this one for about two years, rehearsals and a few gigs. Everything's working fine, no problems whatsoever.

This guitar is just a beauty. Plays, feels and looks like a charm. I've tested a few Gibson LP's that weren't this good... Don't be fooled by the prize-tag and the fact that it's MIK.
