It's a copy of a '59 Gibson 335. Two HB's with dedicated volume and tone controls. 3-way switch.
Sound

Sounds great both clean and with distortion. Instant Larry Carlton with a bit of overdrive. Fat, rich and beefy sound when played with heavy distortion. Nice jazz sound with the neck PU and the tone control a bit off, funky with neck and bridge PU, twang with bridge PU when played clean.
The Tokai HB II PU's sound pretty good. I don't feel the need to replace them anytime soon.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Action, Fit & Finish are perfect. Neck is straight as an arrow, low action, no buzz whatsoever. The same for the nut, saddle, electronics etc. - this workmanship on this guitar is flawless.
Reliability/Durability
:8
I won't give a ten here because it's a hollowbody guitar, i.e. it's a bit more fragile than a comparable solidbody. But in terms of reliability or durability I don't have any worries.

This is a great 335 guitar. When I was shopping around money wasn't an issue. I tried the Ibanez John Scofield model, which the neck was too thin for my taste, and several new Gibson 335's. A few Gibsons were close to the Tokai (except for the price tag) but in comparison, they all were less resonant, a bit dull sounding and considerably heavier. I used to have an old Gibson 335 years ago and the Tokai sounds pretty much the same like that guitar.
If you don't care for the name of the headstock, the Tokai is the way to go.

I love the sound from this guitar. I am learning blues and lead guitar and this baby has a beautiful range of sounds. Very clear, rounded full sound. I play it through a Fender M-80 Chorus which is super for screaming lead and also a Roland Cube30 for the softer effected sounds.

Playable from the box. I am no professional but I have a few guitars to compare this to and the ease at which you can play this guitar is unbelievable. There is a slight vibration on the 5th string from frets 9 to 11 but only on a distorted channel. I am not experienced enough to know what this is? The finish on the guitar is beautiful. It looks really expensive except for the small inlay at the head which is croked.

Haven't had it too long but gigging would not be a problem.

I had a bit of trouble when inquiring with the distributor but once they realised I was serious they treated me well and sorted me out within the required time.
Support? Not yet necessary but I will report back if the problem on the 5th string turns out to require a fix.

I have been playing on and off for 10 years but mostly acoustic. I have a Washburn WD20 and a Patrick Eggle Berlin standard. I find it hard to put this guitar down. It has rekindled my will to learn and I am enjoying learning(something I never usually do). If it were stolen I would replace it immediatly. I initially wanted a Gibson 355 but the price alone for the real thing was daunting. I had also heard good things about Tokai which turned out to be very true.

Suits my style perfect which is jangly blues to hard rock, i had the money for a gib but the 3 i tried didn't match up to all the Tokais i tried, it has a rich, very full, smooth and creamy detailed sound, not harsh at all, this guitar sounds MASIVE and is extremely flexible when dialing in tones, it oozes quality from the point you plug it in.

Well, heres where the Tokai leaves the Gibsons behind, the 335s of today are just shabby, the necks are horrible. On the Tokai everything feels right, the finish is spotless, the action was set medium-low as i like it and plays beautifully, theres is nothing to fault on the setup of this guitar, its all there.

well i've owned it for 2 months, so time will tell on durability, i cant see why not, it gigs as well as high quality guitar should, never have to correct the tuning, infact it holds tune for weeks at a time with out re-adjusting.
