Outstanding quilted maple cap finish , body mahogany, mahogany set neck two paf humbucker pickups Tune-o-Matic bridge.......LOOK its a Gibson standard spec only put together better

Sound : 10
Have been playing Brit Blues and rock for the last 30 years and in that time have owned just about every guitar and amp combination and this one just sings.changed the pickups for Bare knuckle Rif Raf in the bridge and Mule in the neck and now it is a killer ..I can take it from a Pete Green to Gary Moore just on the volume pot...it just covers all I need.
I play through a Marshal DSL and a VOX AC 30 with a Ibanez tube screamer and a old delay peddle and thats all I use

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was about 18 months old when I got it ..just took it to the guy who sets up a lot of pro guitarists gear and it was he who said just how well put together the guitar is even down to a bone nut....the action and finish is up there with the best

Reliability/Durability : 10
Look this guitar is gigged and we play hard Pubs and clubs it just takes it the hardware and finish is well up to gig work I was so impressed with it I have now got the Tokai LS150 as a back up

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 30 years and as I have said this is the match for a Gibson standard.....if it was stolen then I would find the person and loop guitar strings around his genitals ....I would get a new one asp

Tokai LS-75Q VF (violin flame) model, made in Japan. Les paul copy, top is flamed sycamore and body and neck mahogany with a lovely rosewood fingerboard. All fittings are Gotoh, Japan. All the features you could ask for, though no case, but i did save #200 off it anyway.

Sound : 5
okay gorgeous sound clean and light disortion, plenty of sustain, and the bridge pickup has plenty of attack and a nice warm tone. neck pickup is a bit muddy but nevermind. musical style is soft rock/rock/blues and it should suit it perfectly, lots of variety.

HOWEVER I can't at the moment use this with the rest of my rig, when put through any of my more powerful effects or high gain settings the bridge pickup especially just squeals at me. and i dont mean your classic feedback, real microphonic high pitched feedback. its horrible basically - think i'm going to get the pickups wax potted and see if its okay then, if not either new pups or i'm taking it back, only other option would be to change my sound ive been using for the last 2 years, and i'm not prepared to do that. This problem may not affect you but be aware if you use more extravegant high gain effects (visit http://www.faithless-craze.com and go to the music page, the distortion effects on those songs are what this guitar can't cope with).

I'd like to give this a higher rating because it sounds lovely clean/light crunch, but with this problem i can't justify it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
action, fit and finish perfect straight from factory (nice low action). Pickups are nicely adjusted, good close sound. Only one slight problem with the pickup selector cutting out between selections sometimes, but nothing major, though i may get it sorted.

Reliability/Durability : 9
seems like it will withstand live playing, high quality hardware and a lustrous thick finish. Haven't used it at a gig yet (see "sound" for why) but i'm sure it'll last. Only thing is the strap button near the neck, compared to my epiphone its placed much closer to the neck, and so my strap has a tendancy to come off more often, luckily i havent dropped it yet but i'll need some strap locks before i gig it.

Customer Support : 1
not dealt with tokai. had to go see DAWSONS LIVERPOOL about the pickup problem, and they were very unhelpful, basically trying to say that its the difference between a cheap copy and real gibson (#800 cheap??). this is by no means a cheap copy, its the best copy you'll find, and the staff didnt even mention the possibility of wax potting the pickups, just said id need to replace them. not helpful at all, so i'll give dawsons a 1 lol but never dealt with tokai like i said

Overall Rating : 9
been playing for 3 years, 2 of which in a band. Also own an epiphone les paul custom and two kramer focus guitars, and used to own a nice vintage vrs100. These go through a heavily customised Zoom 505II lol and an Ibanez WF-10 Wah/Fuzz pedal, into a 65 watt Gibson Electar stage amp (sometimes use 100 watt Marshall AVT)
I love the quality of it basically, and how beautifully it plays and looks, if i lost it i doubt id be able to find another one like it, they're not being distributed in the UK anymore.
Favourite feature hmm... the beautiful top i suppose... or the neck.

Wish i'd asked about the pickups though!!! or been given the chance to try it at decent levels in the shop.

Also kind of wish it had a scratch plate cause i think i'm gonna ruin the finish lol, overall 9 because of the sound probs.

No case. Basically same features you'll find in any singlecut designed guitar. Gotoh Japan accessories look and feel high quality. Don't know too much about specifics, info on these guitars is almost non existent!

Sound : 9
Very Very sweet! I've owned a lot of gear, had to sell this guitar but it was very comparable to my PRS (which I had to sell also) for about a third of the cost! Feel, action, and tone was on par with Gibson's I played at various venues and shops. It sounds like a good Les Paul should. I'd probably have changed the PUPs, but I do that to all my guitars. No dislikes. I play through a ton of effects and a Victoria amp, again it handles everything like a guitar 3 or 4 times as much would. I think the tone would be enhanced by better pick-ups so I'm not giving it a 10.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Here's where it really shines. Everthing was beautiful, playable right out of the box! Maple top was fitted and finished flawlessly! I had this shipped directly from Japan and was not expecting a guitar of it's caliber. Because the finish and action were beyond my expectations, I'll give it a 10. Again, this is a rating for the price, if it were more I'd come down to 8-9?

Reliability/Durability : 9
Looks reliable with certain degree of care. I don't gig but if I did I'd always have a backup guitar ready. It should last as long as any high end singlecut. Strap buttons looked a little cheap and I'm not positive about the Japanese accessories longevity? Overall it seems very well built and dependable. Feel, finish and weight are comparable to $4000 Gibson or $3000 PRS.

Customer Support : 1
Manufacturer is almost non-existent? No info, no reply on emails, no warranty that I know of? I ended up buying from a shop in Japan who are very nice but Tokai has yet to respond to any emails for info on their guitars.

Overall Rating : 9
Overall a great value but the lack of case, fairly high priced for a brand not known with basically no customer service are it's only flaws. From an instrument standpoint it's a 10 but due to other factors (not the guitars fault) I lowered my ratings. I plan on buying a few more, they are worth three times the price. The finish and tone to price ratio are it's shinning points. PRS and Gibson, are overpriced and over marketed, and lack the detail of Japanese manufactures.

2001, Japan, 22 frets, Quilted laminated maple top, 2 tone, 2 volume, 3-way selector, 2 Gotoh PAF copies, mahogany back, maple top, Les Paul body, bridge, tuners, Classic style neck, Hard Shell case, pick guard, cable, cloth

Sound : 8
Good for blues to hard rock. I play through a Fender Cyber-Twin. Pickups are quiet. Classic Les Paul sound, bassy, lots of sustane
Very good sounds, will probably upgrade pickups to get a clearer neck position.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar came strung with 10's, low action, perfect intonation, no string buzz. I needed to slightly tweak the neck pickup height. Top is bookmatched, routes are good. No finish flaws, top notch binding and fret dressing.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Deffinetly a giggable guitar. All hardware is Gotoh, good quailty. Finish seems durable. Solid strap buttons. Dependable! Always gig with a backup (you never know.)

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for about 11 years, I also play Fender strat's and Fender Jazz Bass. I did alot of research before buying this guitar, no regrets. I would get another one if stolen. I love the solid feel and sound (it's every bit a Les Paul.) I compared it to used Gibsons, Epi's, Dean's, Heritages, & Warmoth custom. I chose this one because of the build quality/featured to price ratio. (this guitar was $520 before adding the case and shipping.) http://dabluesman.com/Tokai.htm

Features : 10
Made 2000+ in Japan, 18 frets, 3way selector, 2 volume and 2 tone knobs, Seymour Duncan Antique pickups, the usual Les Paul configuration, stop tailpiece etc. 1 piece mahogany body. AAAA beautiful quilted flamed maple top. Fat neck, rosewood.

Sound : 10
The sound is absolutely great for any music you could imagine playing with guitar. The SD antique pickups are super silent, greeat! I use a VHT Pittbull classic 2x12 combo, and a Boss GT3.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I didn't find any quality that I would justice even a least bit poor!
Everythings set up perfectly.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It feels so confident in hand that I would definitely gig without a backup (and will have to, since i had to give away both of my old guitars)

Customer Support : No Opinion
6 mon. full warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for almost eight years, I own a VHT Pittbull Classic 2x12 combo-amp, and a boss GT-3 Multieffects-processor. I had to give both of my guitars away when I changed to this guitar, and still had to pay a lot of money. I probably wouldn't have the money to replace this guitar if anything happened to it, but I would if so.
I love the fact that the frets dont buzz at all, and although the neck is very fat, it fits to my hand perfectly. The guitar is a pleasure to play in all ways. I honestly judge this guitar to be better than for example any Gibson I've played. The guitar is in general very heavily made and it weights more than for example a gibson custom. When you take it to your hand, it stays puttttt. Absolutely a great guitar!
