2 knobs 1 tone 1 volume nothing fancy but fits the guitar. The neck is awsome reminds me of a LP. Only thing i dont really like is the placement of the tuners not a big deal because it comes with the shape of the guitar no other place to put them

Ive actully played this guitar live once and it holds up well i was reculent to play it live because of the size but i figured if its such a great guitar why not play it? its no different just a bit smaller... I think the hardware will last tuners stay in tune very well...the back strap button is kinda a ***** to work around you cant fit it with locking strap buttons because of the size and after a bit of playing on it and moving around it will come unscrewed and if ur not careful ull drop the SOB

Ive been playing for about 5 yrs now i own a epi dot and a Vox amp and other hodgepodge of guitars and equipment...if it was lost or stolen i would cry like crazy this was the first real guitar that i bought on my own so it has a huge sentemental value let alone its a great guitar for the price...I love the sound and feel of the guitar the worst thing about it is that stringing it is a pain in the *** and i always end up cursing the hell out of the guitar...I personally think that this is one of the best and most unique guitars out there for the money i really dig not haveing a headstock it lets u stand out a bit i love this guitar!!!

2007, China, 22 frets, single-piece with "wings" for control/input and detachable armrest. Single humbucker near tune-o-matic bridge, standard tuners. Came with decent gig bag and truss rod wrench. Nothing fancy, just a volume and tone knob, and that's the reason for the 7 rating. No problems, just a basic electric guitar.

I've only been playing for a little over a year, trying multiple styles. Using a Pocket Pod & headphones for travel, sounds great to my ear! Has a lot more bass to it than my Strat. Even sounds great unplugged.

Very well put-together guitar. I haven't had any issues, action is set for my liking, it could probably use a pro setup, but I haven't had the time to take it in. No fret buzz, and I can't find any problems with the paint/finish.

Very solidly built! I've had it with me for the last 4 months in Iraq ( I bought it just for this purpose), it made the trip out here just fine, and has endured some minor abuse, but still doing great. I don't do live playing, but I would imagine you could do a lot worse than the Speedster.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm still a fairly new player. I wanted to bring a guitar with me, but not a full-sized one, just too much hassle luggage-wise, especially since I had to carry all of my bags around (no skycaps or cabs in Iraq). This guitar has helped me keep my sanity and improve my playing. I can't say enough about what a great purchase this has been for me. Worth every penny!

I've own this little guitar for a couple years and it is a great travel companion. It is light weight and compact and easily carried in its over-the-shoulder gig bag. The guitar is electric with a tone and volume control and quite capable of good sounds. The guitar is very similar to a Gibson neck with a rosewood fretboard. I've plugged into all sorts of amps and it does a great job. The guitar is a good looking gloss black.
I like the way the tuners are tucked into the body to lower the risk of breaking or being knocked out of tune when traveling however, when tuning or re-stringing this little beast it can be challenging.

The sound was not why I purchase this guitar. I wanted a instrument that could be used away from home and be similar to my gear at home. I use this exclusively for air travel. I take it through airport security with no or few questions since the security folks see these often. I carry it on-board and it fits into the overhead luggage compartments without a problem (even on the smallest ComAir jets).
Since it is for traveling I only use a small portable amp. I had a Dean "pocket-rocket" type amp that worked great but I had headphones and a guitar cable to fool with. Recently I purchased a VOX Amplug and that is perfect. The Vox plugs directly into the guitar and the headphone plugs into the Amplug. So no guitar cable. You can rock and not disturb anyone plus you can carry the little amp and heaphones in the guitar's gig bag. Life is good. Yes, I do plug it in at home on a Fender DeVille and let it rip and it sounds real good.

The guitar was made in China. They did a great job of finishing the guitar. The action needed adjusting but when I get new guitars made in America, they usually need to be set up also.
One thing to mention, sitting in a chair, I can play this guitar easily with no strap. However, much of the time I wear a guitar strap because I can get more aggressive when playing hard. You have the option.

I don't see why this would not hold up to gigging but who would want to gig with this except for a novelty act. This little jewel is built very well and has traveled thousand's of miles with me with no problems. I totally rely on the guitar to work because that is all I have when I'm stuck in a motel in the middle of nowhere with a lot of time to pass.

I think the warranty is limited to a year or two. Not sure. When I got the guitar (new) the paper work required me to register it within 15 days. The actual registration paper was not with the guitar. I sent an email to the company. They immediately responded and told me what information to send them via email. I did as they asked and a day later sent a response that the guitar was registered. Besides that, I've had not problems with the guitar and no reason to contact the company.

I've been playing the guitar over 40 years. I have Strats and a Gibson LP. I've taken full sized guitars on airplanes and have been fairly lucky. Mostly the cases get scratched and skuffed or a latch busted but the guitars have traveled ok. The problem is that if the airlines ruins your guitar you'll never get back what you lost.
One day in the airport I saw a guy board with a Baby Taylor and thought I would look into getting one of those. During my search for a travel guitar, a salesman introduced me to the Sidekick. He plugged it into an amp and left me alone for about a half hour. He came back and saw me smiling and the rest is history. And without a doubt, I would replace it if it was stolen.
For the record, on some flights when there is no passenger next to you, some flight attendents will let you play while flying across the country. It's a different "Mile High" club but it's a great high to rock-on a mile high in the clouds.

The guitar I own is a glossy, black, smallish-scale guitar made up of a little body, neck, and a detachable arm. It is electric and comes with a little form-fitting gig bag, complete with an outer compartment for the detachable wooden arm and mounting hardware (a post and a thumbscrew. It has 22 frets, a single pickup, mine came with low action on the strings.

I have played it only through my little portable amplifier (a Korg Pandora) and headsets. It sounds nice and full, this is definitely a real guitar. I adjust the controls to make the sound pleasing, but I have not spent much time tweaking it. I like the bright yet somber sound it makes without amplification, as well as the different tones I get when I use my portable amp set-up.

As I said before, it came from the factory with a nice low set-up. I own several guitars including a Gibson Explorer and Flying V, as well as a Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster. The neck kind of reminds me of the Stratocaster, since it is nor real thick. And, like the Strat, the strings are easily fretted.
I could not find any flaws with the guitar. It had a nice, glossy finish and a smooth neck.

Since I don't play live, I cannot say with any certainty if this guitar could be used in that way. But, if I had to guess, I would have to say that it would be at the very least, serviceable. It is definitely tough enough.
I keep it in the back of my SUV, and try as I may not to, I still sometime have dropped boxes and bags on top of it. It has been in the trunk during 100+ degree weather and weather under freezing. When I take it out to steal some practice time, I have found that I have not had to do much tuning.
I am a mechanic so I have no problems manipulating the tuning pegs to tune the guitar. I don't do a whole lot of whole step and 1-1/2 bends on it, but when I have gotten a little rough with it, I have found that it stayed in tune for me. Still, I would think that the roller mechanism it uses would eventually wear over the years, where a normal guitar would not. Still, how else could they have made it so compact and portable.
My main use for the guitar is for practice at times when one of my full-size guitars would be inconvenient. I take it with me when I travel, and while stuck in the big city rush-hour traffic, I pull it out and do picking exercises and fingerpicking. If it is warm enough, I roll down the window and throw in some left-hand practice with chord work. It is just that portable (and I am just that addicted to playing the guitar).

I am not sure about it having a warranty. I did have occasion to contact them to order another post after I lost mine. The post is what the detachable arm hinges on, while the thumbscrew secures it still (and also doubles as a guitar strap post. I did not realize I could leave the post in. I emailed and also called their customer service line. They were great - real people, personable and very helpful. I got my post in three days.

I love the portability and quality of this guitar. With it, I have been able to steal many hours of practice time that I would not have otherwise gotten. Also, I have not had to risk shipping damage to my full-size guitars since I could carry on the Traveler Speedster. It is my secret weapon that has allowed me to advance past friends that began playing around the same time I did. it is kind of expensive, but you must pay for quality - that's a given.

Sounds pretty good. I think my pickup is a Kent.
I use is almost exclusively with a Korg Pandora with Sony headphone and it sounds awesome! I use an adaptor made to hook effects together with a straight connector with 1/4" plugs on both ends. Plug on end in the guitar and plug in Pandora into that. I play without the extension. It works great, nice and compact. I can sit in front of the TV and play when I choose without bugging the old lady.
I also used to carry it as a spare guitar when I gigged. I would not hesitate to use it but I never needed it.

I bought this on Ebay as a blem but for the life of me I can see no flaws.
I did replace the tuners with locking Sperzels. This made it easy to change the strings. Otherwise changing strings it a bit trick, but not as hard as some seem to think. Also, tuning is a bit harder and will take some getting used to because the tuners are in the body.

Sure you can play live with it. I did use it for some band practices. You kind of need to get used to the shape but I really like it now. I have had mine for years and travel in an RV with it and I don't see any wear on it. It has never failed me. In fact I suspect it is more reliable than just about any other guitar because there is no headstock to break off and the tuners are enclosed.

I have played for years.
I had the acoustic version and it is VERY hard to tune because the strings stick in the bridge. This electric version fixes that with the roller bridge.
If it were lost I would buy another.
I love the portabilty. I was playing on the rim of the Grand Canyon at sunset using headphones and you should have seen the looks of people as they tried to figure out what I was doing.
It should come with locking tuner but you can change them (requires a little drilling)

This guitar comes with a good neck profile, nice fretboard and a lack luster, but useable, dual blade humbucker. The one I have was made in China. It has a tune-o-matic bridge and an unusual method of string routing, but if you read the manual, stringing it up is no problem. The controls are one tone and one volume. The guitar comes with a case and tools.

Don't get the idea that this will replace a strat or a tele, after all, the name of the guitar is "traveler". I run the guitar through a PX4D and headphones. I use the guitar as one of my travel essentials. The guitar makes no noise of its own that I can tell. If is a little farty if you lay into the strings too much on the base side, but part of that is the pickup's bridge location. The sound it bright, but not harsh.
I am more of a "neck" pickup sound kind of guy, but the guitars sound is still pleasant to listen to.

The action is just fine. It wasn't when I got it, since I like a higher action than most players I know. However, with a little setup, it is a real joy to play. The finish is tough, as I have tested it a few times.

No problems yet. I do tend to break strings on the high E more than usual, but I think that is because it is a 24.75" scale. All my other guitars are 25.5 scale guitars. I use 11's on it and it shows no signs of stress.

All as per above, you know the features. Tools and pick included. It is very basic, but all I need for its purpose. To be honest, I barely even plug it in at all, its great to have at my desk at work, or to throw in the car on trips or on planes. Its just great for down-time anywhere. This guitar beats the competition because of the removable upper bout that keeps it correctly oriented so that its stable when played- other guitars are too floppy (that is, they tilt toward and away from the you too easily) to really get into leads. Having no headstock saves room but makes the neck light- just need to get used to it and then you're flying straight.
Sound
:

The neck is thick and a good compliment to my Les Pauls in a small package. I barely ever plug it in, but it has a bit of a treblish-Tele sound to the pickup; very bright sounding. Not much noise and really not a bad sound. It actually sounds pretty good considering how little mass of wood there is- its only 4 pounds! You really could use this at a show in a pinch, though I would prefer to use it for practice. I have plugged it only into Fender amps, and was surprised at how good it does sound. The main sound I'm concerned with is unplugged, and acoustically its surprisingly loud. My rating is based on "travel", which is what it's for.

Very good quality guitar that seems well-designed and I believe will outlast the other travel guitars I've played (Epiphone, etc...), but you get what you pay for- these are not cheap, relatively speaking. I really like that it is so small and yet is tuned using standard E-E tuning.
One really could gig with this guitar, without a backup.

I've played about 35 years and mostly play the classics. I really love that this thing is so small and neatly designed, that it plays so well acoustically, and at a decent price. Its easy to bring in to work and fits anywhere. It is a good quality sound, plugged in, but again, I bought it for the acoustic sound and portability for practice time. If you're serious about practicing away from home or studio, get this guitar!

Good. I usually pack a PODxt or Zoom PS4. It works fine with both of those products. There is a hum which resonates when playing the lower strings. This happens on certain amp models. It is not fret buzz and my other guitars do not produce the hum when using the above devices.

I would definately buy another one if stolen. I have been playing for several years off and on. I have been avg. 1 to 1.5 hours a day for the last two years(I killed my TV). I own 4 electrics, 2 acoustics, 15watt class A tube combo, and a Mesa Boogie 50/50 + BBE + Line6 POD + 4x12.
I am an airline pilot and I need an axe for when I'm stuck for 18 hours in boringtown USA and not getting paid. Let's face it, the flight attendants are either fat or gay, layover locations aren't what they used to be, and watching too much CNN rots one's brain.
For the other pilots out there. It fits in the cockpit no problem. I've flow with it on the Stupid-80, 75/76, and the 737-800.

Given the body size and thickness, I'm surprised at how good this sounds. Nice tone and pretty good sustain. Surprising volume unplugged. Twin-blade humbucker provides a nice balance to the hard maple. If I have to have one pickup on a guitar I'd rather have one at the neck, but by changing your playing area and/or using an effects processor you can get this to sound pretty much like you want.
I bought this strictly for practice, and it serves that purpose well.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

A little out of tune and intonation needed a little tweaking, but who knows where this was until I bought it. Action is O.K., the medium frets provide more fretboard feel than the jumbo frets I'm more used to, so the action feels a little lower than it actually is. I'm not going to tweak it. Finish is well done, looks like a color coat with a clear finish on top; sides of the fretboard are finished in the clearcoat. No dust specks, lint or sanding marks. Nice fingerboard.
The neck-through design and thin body make playing the high frets easy. Craftmanship is good. Only gripe (this is getting petty) is that the bridge rout could have received a little more attention. The finish is pretty thin on the walls of the rout with a couple of little drips, but again, you'd have to deliberately look for it. No complaints anywhere else, and I scrutinized this thing pretty well.
The knurled thumbscrew that secures the armrest acts as the bottom strap peg; I prefer a strap and not using the arm rest, so you've got this big bolt sticking out of the back for the peg. I found an identical but shorter bolt (1/4-20) that screws down flush to the body and replaced the factory one with it. Traveler might want to consider including one with the guitar. If this guitar really lacks anything, it's the tuners. This guitar needs locking tuners if for no other reason than to making stringing easier. Pretty close quarters to work in and conventional tuners don't make it any easier.
Reliability/Durability
:
8
Haven't had it long, hard to say. I have no plans to gig it so it's not an issue. It's well-engineered and constructed and a solid chunk of hard maple is hard to break. If you broke or screwed-up any other parts of the body(?)that are screwed on they can be replaced. Only concern would be the tuners. As noted above, existing tuners are only O.K. quality and this guitar needs locking tuners anyway. This is a nice guitar and the gig bag (good quality) provides minimal protection, I'd like to get a hard case if I can find one.

I bought this because I work weekends and have a fair amount of free time to practice. I got tired of lugging in a full-size guitar in a hard case, effects bag, brief case and lunch bucket. This little fella is small, light, and fits in my half-size locker. Here's the most important part: I just plain like it. It plays well, sounds good, and just makes itself real cozy sitting in your lap. I don't have to worry about banging it into anything, it's too small. It took awhile to adapt to the size, but the strap works for me. If anything happened to this I would replace it with another.

Right out of the box the action is excellent. My guitar is candy apple red metalic. Very nice. The frets are dressed nicely and the neck is dead on straight. I had to tighten a couple of screws that hold the lower bout to the main body, but other than that I think they did a good job. I think the way the arm rest attaches could use a little engineering, but it's ok. I would beef it up a little so it fits a little tighter and doesn't "creek" when you apply force to it while playing. Maybe 2 screws instead of 1 screw and an alignment post?

I've only had my Speedster for awhile, but I think with a little care it should last a long time. I wouldn't check it through baggage at the airport, and if I stowed it in the overhead I would make sure it was on top of any baggage. I don't think it would take much to knock the detachable arm rest off either. I thought about just glueing it on, but then put down the crack pipe and came to my senses.

I think this is a well crafted guitar. I'm not totaly convinced it's worth 300 bucks, but comparitively, if you want something like this, there isn't a lot of options out there (that I'm aware of). The neck and playability are excellent. The detachable arm rest gives the guitar the feel of a full size instrument, and I dig the fact that it has a Tele twang to it.
Here's the bad news folks...
I'm having tuning stability problems. The tuners are recessed into the body and with my large fingers I find it extremely difficult to turn the tuner heads. I can't imagine restringing this little bugger. The manual says you can use a peg winder, but mine barely fits in the body slot and if I force it I will damage the finish. I would need to pop 4 Aleve after I restrung this guitar.
If they included a custom peg winder or some type of key that mated perfectly to the Ping style machines and had more clearance than the problem would be solved. Maybe even put velcro on it so you can hide it somewhere on the guitar...anyways..just thinking out loud.
I'm not sure how to rate it because of the tuner access problem, but because I think it's made well I'll go with an 8.
