1976 Made in California USA, Natural Hawaiian Koa Wood body, Aircraft
Aluminum neck through design. "String-thru" the body crome Travis Bean bridge, two Travis Bean humbucking passive pickups that are attached to the aluminum neck, with 2 volume and 2 tone controls with a 3-way toggle pick-up selector. Rosewood fret board with oversize pearl dot inlays, peg-head has big "T" cut out in it with 4 Grover tuners. Finish is simi gloss natural Koa wood from Hawai'i. Body is 2 piece and has double cutaway, and doesn't really resemble any other bass i've ever seen. Neck feel's sorta of like a Jazz bass but the fret board is flat like a banjo or classical guitar, the playability is so good though I didn't even notice until looking at a web page and reading the description about the fret board. Origional case is smaller that a standard bass case (about the size of a strat).
I think has a 34" scale but have not checked. I own 3 other basses all high quality instruments, I bought this Bass at a pawn shop for 175.00 and it is now my main bass. These sell on eBay for 1000.00 - 1500.00, but even at those prices it would be well worth the money. This bass is #496 out of 1123 made during the 70's. It has a warm round tone that melts in Your ear! And the sustain is the best I've ever heard on a instrument, most likely due to the fact that the pick-up's are mounted right on the neck. Travis Bean is back in buisness and You can Buy new basses starting at around 6500.00, but these vintage one's in my opinion are much cooler looking. I give it two thumbs up!
