for humbuckers in a strat it drove me crazy because as this was my first axe i also wanted a real strat.
it had what my friends called a club neck, full round hand filling,
but my father bought it for my 16th birthday used for 100 bucks it was my first real electric

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
had low frets combined with fat neck and small hands make for a dawg of a player, but i made it thru.action was a bit higher than spec for a strat.

Reliability/Durability : 10
one thing this was---was indestructible, you could knock a fire hydrant over with it if so inclined.

i kind of wish i still had it as i traded it to a friend back in 1986,but as i have experienced better insruments,i know if i saw it today it would shatter the fond memories of teen garage jams.
i have been playing seriously for five of the 22 years now,and own les paul, fender, larivee, martin guitars.if ti were stolen at the time i would be on the warpath, but if it happened now i may say oh well.

My guess is this guitar was made in the early to mid seventies. It was made in Japan. It has the large headstock with the bullet truss rod. It originally came with 3 humbuckers and a 3 way selector switch, one volume and two tone controls. I'm not sure what kind of wood the body is made of, but it's solid, not plywood. It has a natural finish and a maple neck and fretboard. The pickup selector switch only worked in two out of three positions. When I took it apart, I found a pickguard screw through the shielded lead to the neck position pickup. This was clearly a problem from the factory.
I have since replaced all electronics with a setup from a brand new Fernandez that was damaged in shipping. It now has a white pearlized pickguard with a humbucker in the bridge position and two single coils, a five way selector, one tone and one volume.

It can produce sounds from a low growl to a bright shrill scream. Of course it isn't original anymore, but who cares? It suits my style of music, any can handle Blues, Jazz, Rockabilly, Country, and Heavy Metal.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action on this guitar is incredible! It actually plays better than some of my real Strats. If you were blindfolded, you would think this was the "Real McCoy!" Other than the wiring problem which has been eliminated, this is one of the best players I own. I have a collection of about 44 guitars, and some of them are very expensive. Expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be a good player.
It has a few dings and scrathes but nothing too serious, it still looks great.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is one of the main guitars I would take on the road. I don't play out much anymore, but this guitar is "Old Reliable" It has stood the test of time and passed with flying colors.

Univox is long gone. Too bad, they made quality stuff.

I've been playing about 43 years and have owned some of the finest guitars money can buy. This guitar has taught me that a guitar need not be expensive to be a great player. If it were lost or stolen, I could never replace it. Even if I found another one like it, it wouldn't feel the same. You would have to play this one to believe it!
Actual cash value, maybe $300.00 You could spend two grand and still not have one that plays this well. I know, I have. This guitar puts my Gretsch Tennessee Rose to shame!
