I play a little of everything, basicly what ever pays. I feel I could
do any gig with this guitar. Rock, Blues, Musicals, 80s. I would
feel comfortable using this guitar at any gig.

Has a good sound range from Strat single coil sounds to beefy Les Paul
bridge sounds.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Everything looks great about this guitar! Seems tough and road worthy.

Not sure what the wood is....I think it is Mahogany and maple and rosewood.

Action is low with no buzz!!!

Reliability/Durability : 9
everything looks great...should last a life time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Vaccaro is now out of business. As of late, even their web site is down.

Overall Rating : 9
I have been paying for about 20 years and have collected guitars for all that time. I have 5 PRS guitars, 3 Fender USA Strats, 2 Gibsons
Les Paul and a V. I could go on and on. I really like this guitar
it is a very fine instrument. It is kind of ugly but, it plays BADASS. So do you buy with your eyes or your ears? This guitar ROCKS!

-Korean-made in 2000 (i think).
-25-1/2" scale, 22 frets, rosewood fretboard. It's got a zero-fret, too, which is quite nice.
-The neck is aluminum with a maple cap on the back, a sorta stratty-feeling neck, but I dunno about the body. Whatever it's made of, it's pretty damned hefty. This guitar ain't the least bit light.
-Passive electronics, Vaccaro pickups: a humbucker in the bridge and a slanted single coil in the neck. Volume and tone knobs, 3-way pickup selector, and a coil-tap switch for the humbucker.
-Red Sparkle finish. -The body style is somewhat like a Squier Venus, even with the thru-body string thing and tune-o-matic bridge, but it's a little pointier. And it has that tuning fork-looking headstock, with really nice Gotoh tuners (non-locking).
-Came with a cheap six-foot cable. Woooo.
-It's left-handed, if that means anything to you.

Sound : 9
-If my musical style were a person, it would be a mopey British folk singer who plays guitar in a Japanese punk band, goes to raves on the weekends, has a secret crush on Britney Spears, listens to metal while he drives and to the Carpenters when he's cleaning his apartment.
-I play this thing through a Peavey 5150 combo. I have a Danelectro Fab Tone, Boss Dual Overdrive, Ibanez Tone-Lok Flanger/Chorus, and a Boss EQ pedal. I don't really use those too much, normally it's just guitar and amp.
-The only noise I get out of this guitar is the single-coil hum. The pickups aren't that microphonic, so you only feed back when you want to. And when the coil tap is on and your playing in the middle position, the hum gets cancelled out by the two single coils. Yay!
-This guitar has a freakin' ton of sounds. Unplugged, it's mighty loud, and it's even moreso when plugged in. The pickups are pretty hot considering that they're stock pickups of questionable origin, but they suit the guitar really well. And they're well matched. The humbucker is big and fat, but not muddy, and the neck single-coil is nvery clear and clean sounding. The middle position gives a really good jangly sound, great for attempting to play Judy and Mary songs.
-As far as sonic variety goes, there's a lot to this guitar. The bridge pickup can do metal quite well, and with the coil tap it's much more bright and cutting. Clean tones on this guitar are wonderful. When the old guy at the music store compliments your clean tone, you gotta have something good. The neck pickup was designed to play porn-groove Maxwell-type stuff. If that pickup was a chick, it'd be damn sexy.
-One complaint, tohugh. The tone knob sucks. No subtlety, either up or down. And with the tone knob down, it just muffles all the high-end from your signal. Pretty crappy. The one thing I had any real problem with. But it's okay, I never used the tone knob anyway.
-And one additional plus! You can play the strings behind the bridge to get cool sonic youth-like noisy sounds! That's hours of fun just in itself. But if you're playing really tight, precise stuff, you may get a little sympathetic vibration from the strings. It that's a problem, just stick a little piece of foam or something under it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
-The action WAS really nice and low, but since i put heavier strings on it (10-52 on it now, i think it had 10-46 before), the action is a little higher, but still quite nice. Everything else was set up nicely, all nice and tight and free of any problems that I've noticed yet.
-No problems with the neck or fretboard or anything. The neck joint of this guitar is kinda nice, too. No clunky plat to get in the way, and the bolts are recessed into the body.
-The bridge seems to be a little subpar. Something a little more massive would have been nice. Oh well, I'll just save up a whole $25 or so and get a better bridge someday. I'm in no hurry.
-Now back to the finish. It's fucking awesome. Best sparkle finish i've ever seen on a guitar. Almost three-dimensional, and wonderfully flashy and gaudy. The kinda thing you'd stare at for hours when you're high. But it has a boring white pickguard and strat-like volume and tone knobs, so it's not quite living up to its potential gaudiness. Maybe a pearloid pickguard would've been overkill.

Reliability/Durability : 10
-This guitar is a fucking tank. It's built like one and it weighs just about as much as one. I've bled and sweated all over thing, and it's still in perfect shape. Super-durable.
-I'd have to make a serious effort to damage the finish. It's super-thick and really durable.
-I've played lots of shows with this as my lone guitar. No problems yet, aside from a sore shoulder at the end of the show.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Well, the guy i bought it from was super-cool and helpful. Never dealt with Vaccaro directly, though.

Overall Rating : 9
PROS:
-unique body style
-amazing finish
-versatile sound capabilities and well-matched pickups
-super-sturdy aluminum neck
-zero fret is nice
-capable of making sonic youth noises
-it's a left-handed guitar in a color that isn't black

CONS:
-weighs a freakin' ton
-tone knob is pretty worthless
-bridge could be of a little better quality

To sum it up, I love this guitar. It can handle all the ballady metal/rock/punk/pop/disco/baby-makin' music that i attempt to play on it. It looks great, plays really well, and i'll be damned if anyone else around here has one like it. Bonus points for originality. Go out and buy one before Vaccaro goes out of business. I think they might be on their way there, so act fast. And check ebay. Ebay always seems to have a few.

1999 model, made in korea.22 frets.the controls are very basic just the goods no gimmics(volume, tone, coil tap).pickups s/h.the pickups are Vaccaro's own (nice touch).the neck is maple, the v-neck runs through the entire length of the neck.the finish on mine was blue sparkle well worth the extra coin for it.as for the body style nothing i have seen before,a breeze to play ,well balanced.the bridge is a tune-o-matic style with string through body, with this feature and the v-neck prepare for some serious sustain.gotoh tuners hold very well.it has a 25-1/2 scale, rosewood board, dot inlays.

Sound : 10
the v2-xray fits my style of playing like a long lost friend.i play it through a sovtek mig 100 head, marshall 4X10 cabinet,it sounds so killer.the pickups are quiet, you have many options to choose from.the humbucker screams,i must say i really enjoy the coil tap.you can make notes stand out that would otherwise be lost.pickups are very well matched for all types of playing styles.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
when i got my guitar,i tried to find something wrong with it.to tell you the truth not a damn thing wrong to be found.it stills play today like when it came out of the box.the set up was right on,no tinkering for me to do at all.i have to tell you for the price and what you get for it,you cannot pass one up.

Reliability/Durability : 10
this guitar will last playing live for years to come, and then some.nothing on this guitar shows signs of any forseeable problems.you will be able to depend on this guitar, every time you go to pick it up.i only play this guitar out, would only have another one around for maybe some drop d tunes.

Customer Support : 9
never had to contact them yet.but i'm told that they back the v-neck with a lifetime warranty.so any company that has that strong of a warranty should be a pleasure to deal with.

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playing guitar for a third of my life.i have owned many other brands(not going to get into them all).i love my v2-xray so much that i plan on buying a Vaccaro American X-RAY.if by chance it got stolen,i would first replace it,then hope that the person who snaked it loves it as much as i did.so try one, don't let it's looks put you off.sit down and play it,you will be in for a real treat.in my opinion keep an eye out for these guys.
