It's was made sometime in the seventies? The only problem with the controls (I caused). It has two humbuckers (don't know if they're original or not). I bought it used and was told "it used to belong to Gary Moore". True or not, it's a cool story. The body must be solid because it's still sustaining from yesterday. It's similar to a strat but cooler. The case is original and holds together well.

Sound : 9
I have many styles of music but as far as hard rock, it's amazing. I typically use a digitech multi effect processor. The only noise is caused by my ignorance. The forward pickup gives a real rich rythmic sound and the bridge pickup screams.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I'm not sure how it came from the factory because I bought it used. The pickups are adjusted quite low. I typically can get away the original tuning when I place new strings and I don't have to tune again (that's the honest to God truth). I've played Les Pauls, Strats, Iceman, Explorer, etc... and this thing is amazing. The action is so low, I need to play my acustic occasionally just to keep my calus built.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've beat it to death and it just keeps coming back for more. The hardware is all original. The finish is original and it's very thick. It has some real deep dings from being dropped etc... I'm so impressed with this axe, I've become a Vantage collector. I depended on this unit soley for years.

I've been playing for 25 years. In my house there's an Ovation, Johnson (12 string), Epiphone (1965ish), another vantage, strat, les paul, blah, blah. I use a digitech effect unit, and a Custom amp. If this guitar were lost or stolen, I'd be really ticked off. The only thing I'd ever chage about this unit is the forward pickup (sometimes I'd like a cleaner sound). The only thing I wish this guitar had was a twin.

Not sure the exact year, but this is a late 70's early 80's made in Japan Vantage Avenger X-77T, 21 frets. It's a "plank" type guitar build (i.e. SG, vintage tele, strat, etc.), and it transfers sound vibrations too well to be plywood, so we'll say it's solid. Has one pickup- a passive humbucker in the neck position- one tone, one volume, and a coil tap toggleswitch. It also has an S-type tremolo system with a twist: the trem is made out of solid, heavy-duty brass as opposed to the much lighter (and cheaper) chromish metal in most other trems. Body looks to be cheaper mahogany or even (shudder!!) basswood, but the finish is polyurethane-ish like a strat's so it's hard to tell. The body is an off center double cut, though a version that's unique to Vantage Avengers, not the same-old-same-old, thank God! and the headstock is also a unique creation, as opposed to the ever-common Fender/scroll knock off (which was, ironically enough, originally a Bigsby/scroll knock off, but that's another story). The tuners are grover-style enclosed machines, six-in-line mounting, and seem to be pretty good quality. I've had no troubles with it falling out of tune, which is good.

In short, this guitar gets points for creativity, aesthetics, and over-all quality of workmanship, but loses a point because I have a fear and dislike of basswood and this axe could have a basswood body...unless it's mahogany...

Sound : 9
Now comes the hard part: describing sound. First of all, let me say this: the sound that issues from this guitar is good... VERY good. It has a distinct, vintage feel and tone to it, probably because it's a vintage guitar, with a bright, clear tone. The sonic response from this guitar is one of my personal favorites. I run it through a mostly clean (a touch of reverb) VOX 45R, and it sounds like it can handle most anything, though I've not tried distorting it.

Points for tone, distinctiveness, and an adequate versatility.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I got this guitar 20 years used, so I can't really say on this one, but since it's been so long since they've been made, I figure this one's not gonna be too important to you anyway. What I can say, though, is that they seemed to have done a good finish job; it doesn't seem to smother the tone of this guitar at all, and the neck feels great.

Reliability/Durability : 10
20 years and another owner later, and this one still sounds and feels great.

Non-existent, sorry

Overall this is a good, quality guitar. It stacks up against my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus, and even comes up ahead in some categories! There is one thing the prospective buyer needs to know, though. There are 2 kinds of Vantages: Korean and Japanese. The earliest were made in the Matsumoku plant in Japan, which I've heard called the best guitar factory in the world, before it burned down. The Matsumoku guitars are amazing to play and hear, but I've heard that the Korean makes are hideous to the ear, just FYI.

This guitar is a 21-fret, Japanese-made Guitar. I think its under 7 years old..but i can't be sure. Its a solid top, with a 3-way selector, 2-tone, 2-volume nobs. It has 2 Humbuckers, that are MMK, Passive. Maple neck and Mahogany Body. It has a double-cutaway body, but not a Strat Style..it's kind of offset, and pointed outwards...really cool-lookin! The strings go thru the body, and it has the original non-lockin Vantage tuners...but im getting Grovers to replace them soon... Thin neck with a Rosewood fretboard..really nice to maneovre on... Just came with a Hard case and alien Levi Strap.

Sound : 8
It suits my style great, i play mostly Led Zep, and Sabbath/Ozzy. It's really nice for playin Randy Rhoads stuff, and van halen is nice. The variety isnt the best, but I don't need alot of that..plus my amp gives my the variety i want...so its all good. I LOVE the push and pull feature for the tone nobs...great for a hollow sound. Very Rich sound, otherwise.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Fit is AMAZING! Action is Beautiful! Finish would have been amazing, if I got it new...the finish is beautiful, but its chipped on the edges. It has a metal nut, but its hasnt taken a toll on my strings....YET.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar makes a tank look like a pinto. It is a bomb shelter built for the President! This thing has even fallen down a fight of stairs and there were no new scratches! The finish is like an inch thick! Whoever had it before me must have been really really bad with it to have gotten the chips on this thing. Strap buttons are solid, and the hardware is near mint! I can completely depend on this thing, without any backups!

Customer Support : No Opinion
never had to deal with Vantage. don't think i ever will.

Overall Rating : 10
I Havent been playin long.... but this thing will last me forever. My Lead guitarist said that this thing blew away his Gibson SG, except for my lack of a Tune-o-matic bridge.I wish the volume and tone nobes were a little more sensitive, so im gonna replace those soon. I love pretty much everything else about this guiatr, though!
The action and fit are like heaven, so i dont think ill ever get rid of this thing.

i dont know what year my guitar is, but it was made in japan. It has 21 frets, and a solid top. it has a volume and tone control, and i 2 way selector. It only has a single humbucker. i dont know the make or model of the pickups. it ahs a satin finish with no pick guard. It has a double cut-away body but its not a strat style. tune-o-matic bridge, which stays in tune very well. Non locking tuners. This guitar is very nice, except for the wiring. So wires came lose and now i dont know where they go.

Sound : 8
the guitar had great sound until th wire problem.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7

MAde in Korea with a two volume knobs, and two tone knobs for the two dual humbuckers with pearl white coloring. Pretty basic guitar.

Sound : 8
I play metal and it is pretty well suited for it. Though it isnet completely intonated but that is because of my brother. There is one volume on mine. Loud. Only because the volume knobs are screwed up. But it sounds better than a lot o fmy friends guitars. Even better than my cousins Jackson.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Beautifully developed. The pickups are fine, paint is shimmering. A lovely crafted guitar. Except those volume knobs...

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar has been to a few parties and lived to tell the story. No complaints about the sound, even compliments. But my guitar is newer so it would explain a lot. Quite dependable.

Christmas present.

Overall Rating : 9
Ieve played many other guitars. But this is the best so far. If it was stolen or lost, I would get something different if I had the money. There is definetly better guitars out there. I have only played with a friends effects for a couple seconds and he got really jealous and unplugged my guitar. It obviously sounded much better than his Samick. But i only have a headset amp that has distortion so I canet really say how well it actually works plugged into a phaser or whatever. If you are just starting or are not staisfied woth the guitar you have now, consider this one. I like it very much...
