It's was probably a 70's model made in Japan!
It was smokin'! Great playin' guitar! I wish I still had it, but I got rid of it because I needed money! It outshined my original Ampeg Dan Armstrong! Well, when you get stuff off of eBay, you don't really know what yer gettin'! Someone had rewired the Ampeg, so it kinda sucked! The Ventura was smokin'!

If you can't afford the Ampeg ones made in Japan now, you could find one on eBay or somewhere's else cheaper!!!

Feature wise everyone knows the Dan Armstrong Lucite guitar and this Ventura copy is pretty much an exact replica but I'll run through them anyway. It's got the removable pickup that I've been told is replaceable with an original DA pickup if you can get one. One tone and one volume control. 3 position toggle that works like the DA. 24 fret neck and of course the clear lucite body. I can find no serial number or any kind of control numbers on the guitar so I have no way of verifying when it was made. I would guess late 60's or ealy 70's. Ventura made some of the best copy guitars that I've ever seen and this one is no exception. It plays like butter and the sound is max rock with plenty of sustain. I can't say enough about how much this is like an original but if the headstock wasn't lamenated with Ventura on it you would almost swear it was the real thing.

I would say the sound is pretty much rock/blues with a pickup that has plenty of output. It's not a real versatile guitar but it does have its own niche and kicks ass in that department. I'm a keyboard player converted from guitar so I'm not playing it out in my band but I've been playing for 20 years and I really do love this guitar and would never think of parting with if I could help it. I have a Gibson Les Paul Standard, a Fender Strat and this guitar fills in the gaps in between those guitars nicely. The only thing that I would change would be the bridge, which like the original Ampeg guitar is the moveable wood piece. It plays in tune after working on the intonation but it would be nice to have a tune-o-matic type bridge in its place.

I got it used on E-bay from a music store so no factory set-up. It had a slight fret buzz at the 4th fret on the b and e strings but was easily remedied with a truss rod adjustment. It plays like a dream and all 24 frets are very accessalbe. The body is almost flawless for being as old as it probably is and the only modification are the knobs have been replaced with clear speed knobs which I think look pretty cool with the clear body.

I've never played this out but I've had it for 2 years and have never had a problem with it. It's built pretty solid and even if it were being played alot more I think it would hold up well. I wouldn't use it without a backup only because I would only use it on certain song types but it would definately hold up to the pressure.

I've been playing for well over 20 years and have owned various guitars over the years. Fenders, Gibsons, Ricks, Ibanezs, Epiphones and who knows what else but I'm not in the least ashamed to say that I have one of these guitars. If it was stolen I would definately try to find another but would never be able to get one at the price I paid for this one. That's about it for this review but if anyone has any information on these guitars please e-mail me, it would be apreciated.

Early 1970's replica of the famous Dan Armstrong lucite see-through guitar with the removable pickup. A very rare guitar- only Conrad (they're crap), Ibanez and Ventura made them...but Ventura, who made great guitars, was manufactured in the Ibanez factory. This is a dead-on Dan Armstrong replica- exact headstock shape, same bolt-on structure, same wiring with the exact same two knobs and toggle, and a super-fast neck to die for! I got this for $400, but I have seen them- which is not often- going for $600!!

This guitar is a bloody monster...both in sound and weight. Yeah, lucite is heavy- probably slightly heavier than a fat Les Paul, but the sound is monstrous. The guitar has unlimited sustain, which makes it ideal for thrashy power chords, super-charged lead runs, and especially awesome when set-up for slide. Listen to Keith's playing on "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out- this is the tone. I run mine through a '66 Bassman with a 4X12 ampeg cab, and nobody in my band can touch me. It cuts through the mix like a buzzsaw, but it also has a honking kind of midrange that is unique. These guitars are not terribly versatile, but they are fabulous for a Stonesy-Gun's N Roses type vibe. These are extremely loud guitars. Mine has the Rock Treble pickup, and it weighs in at a whopping 12.2K. You can get some nice tones with the different settings, and the tone knob is very responsive. This axe really kills the Les Pauls I play with. Warning- do not use these if you have a bad back!

Factory finish...who knows? Long time ago. However, Ventura guitars are becoming increasingly valuable for a good reason- they are very well made. This axe has never crapped out on me and the neck is great because of the access to all 24 frets. Intonation is similiar to that of an old Danelectro, but many tricks can be made to shore it up. Great craftsmanship and a killer look (play it nude for laughs)

Built like a friggin' tank! I've owned mine for over 3 years and I have only had to set it up now and again. Great.

I have been playing gigs for well over 17 years, and this axe is always in my arsenal for the harder stuff. I love the look, the ease of playing on the neck, and I love the tone! I don't use it for a whole set, as I also use a great Tele and a fabulous Les Paul Jr., butit just has a sound all it's own. Very unique guitar.
