Vintage V400 - actually this one is in Blue, looks lovely too.

Made in China I believe, to a remarkable standard, especially considering this cost me only 65 quid!

Sound : 10
Excellent on the highs and open strings, probably even better once re-strung.

Still undecided by lo notes - could be thicker sounding but again this could be because of the strings.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Considering the price this guitar is put together with far more love and quality than any Yamaha, Fenders, Takamines or Tanglewoods I have seen - most of which are far more expensive.

The neck has a lovely feel and the action out of the box was superb.

Forget those nasty plastic feeling "lo end" guitar necks, this thing feels and plays great.

Reliability/Durability : 7
It looks pretty tough.

I had high hopes for this guitar before I even bought it, since its smaller brother thew v300 is a highly raved about lo-price guitar.

The fact is it has exceeded my expectations considerably, it feels more like guitars I have played in the 350 - 500 pound price range.

Also, if the sound is improved by better strings (as a few have suggested it would) this guitar could easily match an Epiphone many times the price.

Bought recently so assume it is 2005. Solid top dreadnought acoustic finished in black. Nice neck with 20 frets. Not really slim but is ok for most hand sizes. No cutaway so top 5 frets really for decoration. Tuners a bit cheap. 1 or 2 were found to be really loose when tension off the strings. Free pick!

Sound : 8
Nice treble but lows only good on strumming. Lows fade quickly on picking and sound a bit metally! Great for open chords. Barre chords a bit more difficult without good pressure. Very nice sounding for the money.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Initial Set-up out of box was useless. Action was soooo high. Had to remove the saddle and file down until if was bearly above bridge to make it anywhere playable. Frets were nicely finished and neck plastic bound all round. Even with the action as low as I could get it barre chords still needed good pressure and accuracy to avoid string buzzing. Still after all that said it is a ?90 guitar. So before reset the action its a 7 and after give it a 9 so average of 8!

Reliability/Durability : 8
Not for live playing but represents great value for money. Is well built and would certainly last if you look after it.

Been playing ON and OFF for quite a few years. Have been put off buying a really good acoustic because of this. This cost me ?90 all in. If like me you really are looking at the guitar as a hobby or you are a newbie I would recommend. Excellent value for money so gotta have a 10 despite the ridiculous initial high action. (But hey we all know how to adjust that don't we)?
