24 frets in a 24 3/4 scale neck, floyd style trem and wilkinson humbucking pickups were what I was looking for and this has them.

A great tone that seems to work well from clean through to hard rock. Not quite as good for pinch harmonics and stuff as my Dean Dime o Flage and not quite as punchy for really hard rhythm work but still a damn good sound. Run it through a Boss Metal Zone and you won't have much to complain about though. 5 tone selector gives a nice variation.

I bought this 2nd hand for ??50 off ebay and it looked like the guy had been eating his dinner off it. Once I attacked it with some cleaning stuff and replaced the strings the finish was actually excellent.
The floyd rose required some lengthy setting up but now I've sorted it I get no buzz at all and the neck is fast, faster than the Dime IMO. I actually prefer this to my brother's VERY expensive Fender Strat.

Currently a bedroom player so I don't know how it could survive gigging but given the amount I had to clean it up to see it come out sparkling I think it can take abuse.

Been playing about 3 months after a 10 year gap but it's all come back quite quickly and this is my most used guitar so far (bought and sold a few until I found the ones I like).
If it was stolen I would buy one new, no second thoughts.

A stunning basswood body with blood red quilted top. Superstrat design. 2 wilkinson double coil pickups and a licensed floyd rose tremolo. All hardware is by Wilkinson and seems very good quality. bolt on maple neck. 1 volume control and 1 tone control. 24 frets.

Sounds great clean and distorted. I've recentley being plying through a Marshall MG15DFX and a Korg Ax3g and the sound is fantastic. Great for all types of music expecially rock and metal. Is't noisy at all. Fat humbucking sound which i like. Bridge pickup could be slightly brighter and the neck pickup sounds very warm and smooth, great for lead work.

Medium/low action but i can bend very easily. Small crack on the neck at the 24th fret but i superglued it and its fine. All hardware set up well.

Bashed it a few times; cannot see any scratches. Hardware seems like it will last donkeys years, good quality. Solid strat buttons. I think I could gig without a back up most certainly.

I've been playing almost 2 years and i know quite a bit about guitars. I played this guitar along with 2 other ??500 guitars I felt this guitar had much more solid materials and better tone. If it were lost or stolen, I would have a look around at other guitars but probably buy this guitar again. I recommend this guitar to any rock/metal player.

This is a 24 fret rock guitar with a beautiful blood red quilted maple finish, it is a real stunner. The body is medium weight bass wood. There are two humbuckers switched through a 3-way selecter (web site says 5 but it's wrong).
A floyd rose trem is sitting on the back but this wasn't really an attarction for me, however it looks great.
The neck is first rate, smooth bolt on maple with nicely inlaid rosewood fertboard. All of the hardware is gold and it contrasts with the blood red body. I am woried about how long it will last though.

The sound is a little one dimensional the neck pickup is warm and silky, however with the switch in the centre it is louder and delivers a good fat sound. The bridge pickup alone is on the thin side so this is dissapointing. As for the tone control.... it doesn't but let's face it no-one really uses this anyway!
Put through my Peavey Bandit 80w amp it rocks and I will be using this guitar for all the heavier rock numbers in the set.

This guitar was acquired at a show and it was nicely set up from new by the guys at JHS (UK).
Having played Strats for 15 years I was hoping for a fast smooth action and this didn't disapoint. The palayability of this guitar is first rate and it would make a great starter guitar.
I haven't found any cosmetic faults but regular gigs over the next year will test the gold finish.

The hardware looks pretty robust and I am sure that it will withstand regular use, however this guitar was CHEAP! so I wouldn't be surprised if the finish isn't as deep as more expensive guitars.
I never had a backup guitar before so this is a luxury. Everyone tells me to expect some broken strings if I use the tremelo. In 15 years I never broke a string on the strat so life could get interesting!

I bought this at a guitar show in the UK, the distributor let me try it and the retailer next door sold it to me (big #60 discount!)straight off the wall. The deal was good If I paid full price for this guitar and then heard how much they knock off when pushed I would be very discapointed.

I am looking forward to many years of service from the new guitar. Comparible models from Peavey and Yamaha seem to cost double what this sells for and they offer little more. The ability to change guitars mid set is a real attraction especialy as we play a mixture of 70/80s rock with a few ballads thrown in.
One last point, why no name? pointy rock axes need names!

No idea what the body is made of, but it's fairly heavy. No-name twin humbuckers, 3 way selector switch, 24 fret neck with what look/feel like medium jumbo frets, rosewood fingerboard. Body style resembles a classic 80's metal guitar...think Ibanez/Kramer style, variation on a theme of Strat. Also features a double-locking licensed Floyd Rose, which ain't all that bad. I'm giving it a ten as value for money.

This is where I rate Vintage guitars. They may be cheap, but they can really please ears. The humbuckers buzz slightly, but you can't hear it when playing. The sound can sometimes be a little thin, but with new pickups I'm sure that it could reach just about most things. It suits my needs - Blues, rock, shred, metal, classical etc etc. The clean sounds aren't great, a little overdrive from both pickups, but play gently and it's clean clean clean.
I'm using it with a Marshall G80RCD, with no effects. I'm also a firm believer in the 'tone comes from the player' philosophy. So for that I'm giving it 8, because it's versatile, but not quite a jack of all trades. That said, it is sold as a 'rock axe'. For that, I can barely fault it. Only that the pickups are a little weak for some exercises.

Came with a cracked headstock, so it ain't great. Thankfully it stays in tune fairly well even with whammy-abuse. But I had spend a while setting it up nicely. Now it feels great, the 5 is based on how it arrived. Now i've set it up properly, worth more of an 8.

It does withstand live playing, but make sure them strings are stretched properly. Otherwise you'll be out of tune before you can fart with nerves. Hardware seems alright, finish is solid, replaced strap buttons with Schaller locks. I'd never gig it without a backup - floyd rose, changing strings...not fun.

Been playing for 12 years, own a modified Fender Strat, and a home-made strat type guitar. This has a fuller sound than the strat, but could never replace my other (although that does have a Duncan Custom Custom).
If it were lost or stolen, I'd buy something else. But purely because I don't like buying the same guitar twice.
I can't think of anything else to put here, so I'll simply say that if you're thinking of buying a rock guitar, then give this one a look. Vintage make superb instruments, and you could always replace some parts and still save money over an Ibanez or something costing nasty amounts.
