I'm dreadful at playing the guitar but even I can get it to make a good noise. My guitar teacher still doesn't believe it's #150 guitar. I try to play blues but it sounds more like I am violating cats.

I think that as it is a budget guitar you may find that some are finished better than others. Mine is fantastic, very hard to tell apart from the real thing. I think someone else mentioned they don't sell it anymore, well that is not entirely correct. They still sell it but they have changed the pickups (which seems a shame considering how good everyone says they are) and it is no longer made of mahogany. I guess these are all cost cutting excercises so I hope they haven't ruined it.

Tough one this. I had mine completely re-wired (at a massive cost of #20) and had all the switches replaced and the pickups raised. With the exception of the pickups this was because of an anoying buzzing sound. It turn out that there were a couple of dry joints that did need replacing and atone switch that crackled a bit but the buzzing as actually caused by the dimmer switch on the lights in the room where I practiced. D'oh!
No problems since then

Only had support from the reseller, Mikes Music in Bognor Regis and that has been superb.

I love it. It looks superb (although I must say my initial reaction to the colour was AAAARGH!) and I really don't think you can beat it for the money. Shame they seem to have changed it so much.

Copy of a Les Paul Special single cut. Tulip Style die cast tuners. Wraparound tailpiece. Two P90s. Nice rosewood fingerboard. TV yellow lacquered finish. Body appears to be made from two pieces of mahogany. Superb for price point.

I'm first and foremost a stat and tele lover. I bought this because it was the host guitar for a review of upmarket aftermarket P90s in Guitar magazine. The stock pickups are great for high gain stuff, but with far less definition than my tele for playing clean. But the tones are pretty wonderful considering the price of this guitar.

Seems extremely good to me. I've only lived with the guitar for a week, but it seems well set up and durable.

I believe the guitar would be dependable in a live playing situation, although my only audience is my dog, and even he doesn't like my playing.

Guitar came with a list of guitar tutors, basic musical information, and a warranty card. John Hornby Skewes obviously take customer service more seriously than many other companies. Aire guitars who sold me this baby were also spot on - made the purchase a bit special.

I've been playing on and off for 30 years. I'm crap and have the concentration of a gnat. I get as much pleasure looking at my guitars as playing them, and this sure is a nice looking instrument. I intend to replace the P90s with a pair of Seymour Duncans in due course. I'll then be able to hear those bum notes more clearly when I'm playing clean. If it were stolen it'd be hard to replace, because Vintage have stopped making this particular model.

Decent pickups, good double volume controls (although it can be a little confusing sometimes!) the tone controls didnt do much in my opinion, but thats superficial, if you wanna change its sound you need to alter your amp. Good tuners, theyre non locking but it stays in tune after a little bit of playing. The compensated stopbar sounds good, it takes a little getting used to but PRS use them so they must be good. The pickups are the best feature on this beast, they sound amazing runnning thorugh a high gain amp and clean up alright, although u may wanna switch to the bridge pickup for clean parts.

The pickups provide very good humbucking effect with great trebly tones, i use this guitar with a shitty amp and some danelectro pedals and it still sounds great. Has a great bright sound with the mahogany body providing loads of sustain. The rosewood fingerboard allows you to play some sweet runs on it too.

Decent finish, nicely glossed. Scratchplate and the guitar go well together, knobs contrast nicely with the finish. Decent action for a guitar at this price (#150)

I would always depend on this guitar, although i would take a backup to a gig (i always do anyway!) It seems sturdy enough to last although the finish may wear off. I have a hunch that the wood underneath is actually stained, so even if the gloss does come off then the wood will still look nice. Strap buttons seem like normal strap buttons, id reccomend some sort of strap lock. I LOVE THIS GUITAR THOUGH.

I'm only submitting this review to correct, what I think is, a misrepersentation of the sound, as described by another reviewer of this model. It's not a bad instrument for #165 (bought from Aire guitars) and after having the frets stoned (one needed digging out as it was way too low)it does a good job. However, I own a couple of old Gibsons with p90s and you can take it from me that the pickups on this guitar are poor by comparison. Yes, they are loud, but they are also lacking in tone. Interestingly enough they are Epiphone p100 pickups. I'm not trying to suggest that, value for money wise, the pickups are that much of a let down, just that they are not as good as some might suggest. For high gain sounds they are OK but they really don't cut it for cleaner playing. The resonant qualities of the guitar seem quite good in other respects so a pu change might prove very worthwhile.

As said earlier the guitar required some work following delivery. It now plays really well so 4 out of the box, 9 following the extra sixty pound spent on fret work, averages to 6?!

Although other people have remarked about the need for all manner of electrical adjustments wrt Vinatge guitars, apart from the pus, which are not great, the rest of the guitar is very good value for money, IMO, and as a Jam session guitar it does a great job. I particularly like the way the manufacturer has captured the retro vibe with the wrap over bridge. if they did the same thing as an SG I'd buy one tomorrow.

http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintageelectric.html about a third of the way down the page.
Seeing as no-one else has reviewed it...I tested this for 20 mins or so at a dealer with a Vox Valvetronic (the big one).
It's a copy of a (Streaky and Shiny) Yellow Les Paul Junior special, twin "P90s".
Do slightly duff tuners,a binding nut and binding pots count as features??? are they the in thing now?.
My word what nice and tasty pickups, really fine.
Bridge is a compensated stopbar and seems fairly substantial, although,it did look a bit "off" having owned a Vintage SG, for around a year, and played several more, I'd be very tempted to change it ..it's a Typical Vintage --a curate's egg.

My I loved those pickups, I had to turn them down to 4 and they were as LOUD at 4 as a Gould Gothic LP (humbucker) on 10 that I tested next.
No noisy noise only rock and roll noise..a very "junior" vibe.
The thing gets a distinct difference in tone between the neck and bridge pup. Typical Vintage "quality control". Be very careful that all the controls do control if you buy one.
F@rking fantastic SOUND though for a #170 guitar, best cheap Lester i've tested yet.

Oh dear-- as mentioned nut and pots bind, tuners seem a little insubstantial,I expect that the compensation on the stop bar would be wrong if you changed string gauges and you'ld want to tighten every nut/screw on the damn thing,as Vintage do not do this.
The neck (back) profile and frets are the same as the Vintage SG = good, but not outstanding. Action would be a little higher as the compensated bar cannot drop as far as a Tunomatic. Neck similar depth to a Gib/Epi slim taper, but, wider from side to side.
The paint was overly laquered (I suspect it's quite tough due to that) and some parts were "marbled effect" whereas some parts looked as if a small bird had crapped on it when the YELLOW paint was applied.
Not only are the Pickups loud, but, the finish is too.
The neck joint had a big glue line between it and the body...i don't usually notice the neck joint on most Lesters, even cheapies ,however, this one visually assaulted people.
This is a mediocre example, try several.
Despite this, for an experienced bodger, it presents no really huge difficulties.

If it's as tough as the SG which was dropped a couple of times and fell over a couple of times with no ill effects..she'll be right.
Vintages seem to be quite solid.
So, i'll surmise it'll be good, but, cannot really tell you.

Impressed with the P90 copies.
A Good deal if you could get on with lack of finesse, turn a blind eye, solder and fart the Star Spangled Banner simultaneosly...I jest, if you find a nice example of one then give it a big old test session ,one of the few Junior Specials we get on this side of the pond without having to sell a kidney,so if you must have a junior this is one of your limited options.
I've too much to list, have been playing about 20 years and have owned or played quite a few Lester copies to backup my Gibson.
Try the Vintage Gold-Top too, alack they didn't have one or i'd have tested that too.
Personally, this isn't enough of an improvement above their SG copy, which is cheaper.
9 for sound 5 for everything else an average of an average 7 FOR THIS PARTICULAR "INSTRUMENT".
