Late 70 early 80's, made in Japan, double cut away body, set neck, LP 24" scale, 2 Dimarzio Super Distortion PU, chrome hardware, stop tail bridge. 2 vol and tone, mine is black laquer although they did them in chery red too. Best feature is the neck, just can't put this one down.

Sound : 10
This guitar is oozes tone, I've not heard anything before that has such a range of tones available from such a simple design. It will do anything from HM to twang by adjusting tone and volume, I had thought about swapping the PUs and coil tap but no need really. I dabble with blues and its as good as any Strat type guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Bought second hand, with a bit of fret dressing and set up the action is now very low with no buzz. I guess guitars are like shoes and everyone needs a different fit, for me this is spot on as my fingers are on the short side. Finish is bomb proof!

Reliability/Durability : 10
I don't play live ut wouldn't doubt that this could withstand the punishment. She is now nearly 30 and going very strong!

Customer Support : No Opinion
No support needed but I guess she would be easy to get fixed.

Overall Rating : 10
Been playing about 5 years, also own a Westbury Standard and have owned some Jap E serial Strats.

This guitar wants for nothing and I would only let it go ifIcan no longer play. It would be a crime for it not to be played!

If you see one buy it!

as above, mahogany body and glued on neck. twin humbuckers, les paul style knobs and pick up selector

Sound : 10
the sustain is unbelievable! my mate who has tons of guitars calls it a monster, the sound is great when through a gain channel or clean channel,

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
everyone comments on how low the action is and how comfortable it is to play, i've since had the bridge jacked right up playing slide, but then lowered it back down to rock out with ease.
the pickups (ivory twin humbuckers) have also been wound right up and wound down but to be honest they sound best where they were originally set,
its got a few marks but what great guitars havent?

Reliability/Durability : 10
it stays in tune brilliantly no matter how much s**t you give it!
and i've gotta say mines had quite a hard life i've had it nearly 23 years!!!! But the laquer is still like new on the top of the guitar.
its by far my favourite guitar, its never far out of tune when ever i pick it up, unlike my flying v, strat, telecaster or les paul

2 Hums, 2 volume, 2 tone(standard stuff), beautiful black, glass like. The finish is very thick; Like an SG copy but with an off set neck and a thick LP style body(good sustain). 22 short but wide frets. The neck is relatively wide and thin, as indicated in previous reviews. Stop tailpiece.No-frills, which is always good. (Less to break). Lovey Black Beast!

Sound : 10
This guitar suits rock to jazz and maybe metal, due to its 2 DiMarzio heavey distortsion pickups.Very smooth and balanced sound.it's one of the best guitars for sound, which shows how good it is. meaty and solid!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The action was pretty good when I got it, saying that it was played by many hands, and with a little adjustment, it is now absolutely perfect. its very low action and this no fret buzz! sexy!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
High reliability/ durability. I have used this guitar for recording// live playing//all around jamming and have NEVER had a problem. the finish is hardy as hell and its never caused me a problem!

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
In the last 15 years, i've owned: lots of Les Paul copies. You will pray this guitar from my cold, dead hands. It is, beyond a shadow of doubt, the best guitar I have ever owned. There are better guitars out there, but this one has a little place in my heart!
If anyone wants pics of it or if anyone has pics of there own VOX standard 24. please email me..

i really want to see other ones cause i've NEVER SEEN OTHER STANDARD 24S

2 Hums, 2 volume, 2 tone(standard stuff), beautiful black, glass like finish. The finish is very thick; one of the few blimmishes on the guitar is a deep scratch, all the way to the wood(my fault..obviously). Like an SG copy but with an off set neck and a thick LP style body(good sustain). 22 short but wide frets. The neck is relatively wide and thin, as indicated in previous reviews. Stop tailpiece. Original case, sweet late seventies looking earth tones with fuzzy brownish, gold interior. "VOX" in gold on the side of the case, very choice and suggestive of it's era.

Sound : 9
Not a jazz guy, but it would be good for that, high quality hums that handle feed back great, Also good for warm Allman to heavy Boston and ACDC. Very smooth and balanced sound. I am a strat man, but I also own an SG with classic 57's(brightest hums I've come across). The Standard 24's sound is slightly dull for my taste, but I would say that about alot of quality, highly favored humbucker guitars. Tone great for any style, but more meaty and not quite glassy enough for my ears. Definately a great 2nd quitar in my arsenal for added color.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Plays like an absolute dream, very smooth and easy fretboard, good upper registry access. Again, glasslike finish, and it says "VOX", quite boldly, on the headstock!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Solid as a TANK, my dad bought this guitar new around 25 years ago and treated it like a baby. Then, I started playing when I was around 12 or 13 years old and you know how that goes! Anyway, this guitar sounds, plays, looks(minus a few of my dings) and stays in tune like a brand new axe.

NA***

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing around eight years, not forever but enough to know that this is a quality instrument and probably an excellent value when it was new and today. I've taken on a relatively recent appreciation for the guitar as I've been increasingly surrounded by and even owned expensive, and high value guitars. None of them necessarily beats this bad boy. If anything it stays in tune better than any guitar I've ever been around, including my pricey, but thin 62 reissure SG. If you're a celery toned, Fender maniac like myself look elsewhere but anybody else, VOX ROCKS! Go for it.

Knee slappin', finger crackin' ear bleedin',blister raisin',rockin' rollin! Early 1980's Vox Standard 24. Standard Super-Strat features with non-standard tone! Nicely flamed Maple neck with ultra heavy multi-piece Maple body. The body has a veneer laminating from and back to eliminate seam show-through on the painted surface. Nice. I was not in the market for another guitar, but finding this rather neglected Vox at a friends shop was an act of God. After a few chops on a tasty class A British amp...the tone and punch of this guitar was breathtaking. Sold!

Sound : 10
The Standard 24 has fire-breathing single pole pickups in a Strat configuration. These pickups are breathtaking; they are very percussive with uncanny low end growl. Rock reference: Free's "All Right Now."

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The Vox Standard 24 has a Stratocaster layout, but with a twist. The lower bout is rounded, similar to a Les Paul. This guitar is evidence of Japan's rapid rise to high-quality gear.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitaris built like a Humvee with the same off-road ability. The highly flamed Maple neck is as beautiful as a custom shop Fender. This guitar is the heaviest guitar I own...suitable for pounding in tent stakes, then still being in tune for the gig! And sustain? Thrash a power chord and order out for pizza...

Customer Support : No Opinion
Vox...who owns 'em today?

Overall Rating : 8
Playing this Vox is similar to the clandestine thrill of handling a howitzer...well designed, over-engineered, and deadly! Pawn your Strat and take this one on trade...check out this and other cool guitars and amps at: www.flatearthguitars.com

Same features as mentioned above. Would add that mine has a solid Glued in Neck.

Sound : 10
Again as per above. I would like to add that the tone and volume knobs on my particulare ax are its secret weapon. They are exceptional at "tweaking" tones from dark and smokey to crisp, clean and clear. Not to mention the whole gambit of distortion, overdrive, fuzz.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action is "top notch". I have it @ a medium hight right now with 10's on it. def' could get this baby down to very low action with no problem. The finish shows average wear and tear for a guitar of it's age thats been played and not just stuck in the dark end of a closet. I can still get er' to shine with a little "spit N' polish"

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Again..wut was said above by previous peeps. High reliability/ durability. I have used this guitar for recording// live playing//all around jamming and have NEVER had a problem. As far as using this guitar without backup. I have to say that it can be done but it's always a good idea to have a backup when you are playing a paying gig.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The guitars to old for any of that!

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I bought this GEM at a Guitar Center for $50 plus tax. They wanted $99 but I talked the guy into letting me have it for $50 because one of the tunners was broken. a set of schaller tunners later and I was in buisness. That's about it...I didnt really add anything more then what was already said by the two guys who posted above me, but I had to chime in when I saw that some other people actually had one of the guitars!

I believe this guitar was made somewhere between 1978 and 1983 in Japan. The guitar is made from mahogany, and has Les Paul type controls (2 tone, 2 volume). The neck is also mahogany and has the same 24.75" scale length as a Les Paul, with a rosewood fingerboard and pearloid fretboard markers. The guitar is a shaped like a double-cutaway Les Paul, but at a slight offset. No-frills, which is always good. (Less to break). The pickups are Dimarzio Super Distortion, and are incredibly powerful.

Sound : 10
I plat this guitar through a Hiwatt Lead 100 going into 2 custom 2x12 celestion loaded cabinets. Through the dirty channel on the amp, this guitar produces one of the thickest tones you could possibly imagine, no doubt thanks to the Super Distortions. It's not too good for clean though, but who cares?

What's rock about clean guitar sounds?

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action was pretty good when I got it, and with a little adjustment, it is now absolutely perfect for my needs.

Reliability/Durability : 5
The machine heads aint up to much, and I'll probably replace them with Grovers in the very near future. Apart from that, it's a solid piece of kit.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
For the style of music I play (Rock of all types, except death/thrash etc) this guitar is great. It's solid, and the tones are powerful and distinctive.

If you find one, buy it.

This review is for the Vox Standard 24, made likely in Japan during the period 1978-1984 (from the information provided by a rep of the Vox Showroom. The story I have is that it was designed by Adrian Legg - although I cannot verify that).
The guitar is black, 22 frets, mahogany (solid) neck and body. the shape is somewhere between a les paul special DC and the new PRS santana special. 2 HB (DiMarzio stock), 2 vol, 2 tone LP config. Stop tailpiece.
The neck is beautiful. wideish, thinish, used to be large frets. Came with original case.

Sound : 10
When I bought this guitar I played in a punk band (1988 or so). We sucked, but we were loud as hell. Today I play flamencobilly-jazz/blues fusion, with occasional folk forrays. So there.
This guitar covers ALL the bases. Raw Rock and/or Roll, with a really smooth clean Jazz on the neck pup. With flatwounds, it records jazz lines better than the under $1000 jazz box. It's quiet enough to run direct to the 4 track. Pots need cleaning though.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Cant speak directly to the factory setup, but this guitar is an absolute warhorse. The finish has worn through in a number of spots, but that's my own damn fault - belt buckles, metal studs, metal picks, etc. It was no easy task, as the finish is quite thick. Has held up well, holds it's tune, and is always ready to go. Nicely finished, no complaints.

Reliability/Durability : 10
See above. It's held up very well under some rather stupid conditions.
Still rings like a bell. Probably did use it without a backup at some point, although I wouldnt today.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Heh. right.

This is an ABSOLUTE KEEPER. PAWN SHOP PRIZE IF YOU CAN FIND IT!
In the last 15 years, i've owned: lots of Les Paul copies, 1965 teisco del rey, 50's re-issue strat, Jerry Donahue Hellecasters Strat (!), 2 kramers, custom shop Lado super strat, Les Paul Custom, Vox Mark VI acoustic, and a whole bunch of others. You will pry this guitar from my cold, dead hands. It is, beyond a shadow of doubt, the best guitar I have ever owned. There are better guitars out there, but this one, for the money, is the best value in the pawn shops. I'd be very interested in hearing from other owners!
