It sounds fantastic unplugged. Much better then the other guitars at the store in the same price range. It has a very resonant rich sound but might not be as bassy as others. Plugged in it sounds ok and the preamp seems very quiet.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action was set-up very well from the factory. Best action of the guitars in the price range I was looking at. There are some slight finish flaws - right at the base of the neck in the seam is missing some lacquer. High marks for excellent action.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
Not sure, only had it for short period.

I have a Epiphone by Gibson electric guitar. This is my first acoustic guitar. I haven't playing seriously, just a beginner on guitar. If it were lost, i'd probably wind up with the same guitar, although I wish the body was thinner and lighter.

I love the action and sound of this guitar along with the quality tuners. Playability and sound seem of the level found in a guitar twice the price. I'm not thrilled with the body style and would have preferred the look of a number of other guitars at the store.

I didn't realize when I bought it there was no neck strap attachment on the front side of the guitar, thats a dissapointment. Wish it had the electric jack through the back peg like some other guitars, not the bottom. I compared this guitar to many guitars - Brownsville, Carlo Robelli, Ibanez, Jasmine/Takamine, Applause/Ovation. The Brownsville was nice and so was the Carlo Robelli. (played a second Carlo Robelli and it wasn't nearly as good as the first, so not very consistent manufacturing?) I almost bought the Carlo Robelli due to its thin body, decent sound and action, but I felt like I would have kicked myself if I didn't get the Washburn since it just played and sounded like it was in a different league but was only a little more expensive.

Washburn Festival EA9, laminated top, Equis preamp 3-way EQ + presence and volume,

I got it with very bad pick-up. You can hardly hear low E when play plugged. Unplagged has average sound. Sound is clear and crisp, but not so warm.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Looks nice, even though cheep.

I have been playing for 18 years. I own old acoustic Yamaha DG with perfect sound. I prefer to play blues-rock. I've chosen Washbern EA9 because of good reviews I read about it especialy on this website. However, I regret it. I wanted to spare some money. Now I am gonna return this guitar and byu some with solid spruce top form Fender or Takamine. I hope I'll have better luck.

Very nice and sharp single cut away. I wasn't really thinking of getting an acoustic/electric for a while, but when I saw and played this one, it just stuck right with me. It's a nice sized comfortable instrument, and it feels a lot more expensive than it actually is. 5 band eq (volume, presence, treble, middle, bass) and the controls are nice and easy to reach. The neck is also extremely comfortable, and makes it feel more like an expensive guitar. For its value, you definitaly get everything.

Sound : 10
I play a lot of stuff that's all over the board: From Athenaeum and Mike Garrigan, to Aerosmith, to Stevie Ray Vaughan, to Seven Mary Three, to whatever I get my hands on. Unplugged its sweet and warm and full, and plugged in, it's that and then some. I've found that I can tweak the controls, and easily do so in under a minute, to clear up my sound and get exactly what I want.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
It's really comfortable to play. I've noticed after about 2 hours it starts to get uncomfortable, but that's just my fingers. The finish is nice, and I'm sure to polish her after every live appearance I do to tell her that she did a good job.

The only problem with it at all is that there's a problem with the setup somewhere which is causing me to constantly break the D and G strings, so I need to take it in, but even with this issue, it plays amazing.

Reliability/Durability : 10
When I was looking at A/E guitars, I wanted something cheap that sounded good and wasn't the standard "Talisman modern rock" style. When I picked this up, I knew it was it.

I do 2 to 3 open mics a week and that's a lot of loading, unloading, plugging, unplugging, sound checking, and environment changes. I've found that I can check my tuning electronically before and after at home and maybe have changed 10 cents, and the only thing showing that I've played being a smudge or something on the finish. The electronics and the guitar's versitility and sound make it a wonderful live instrument. I've been working solely with this guitar, and the only reason I'd have a backup would be for alternative tunings, and I'd buy one of these for that as well. With the black color and gloss, the finish will last but you have to treat it right.

I've been playing since July 1995, and I've played and seen my fair share of guitars, this one being one of 6 in my collection: 3 electrics (Les Paul Special II, Squire Standard Strat, Vintage Silvertone Hollowbody), a 12 string acoustic, and a classical guitar. Since buying this guitar, as much as I've wanted a band, I've enjoyed every minute of my solo "career." This instrument turns heads and always makes me want to play it. Very full feeling and sounding, it's durable and does everythign I want it to do and could ask for it to do. If you want to hear or see what I'm talking about, head over to my webpage: http://www.tryingsohard.com Everything over there is recorded with this guitar.

The Washburn EA-9 is a Sam Ash exclusive. This shiney black beauty features abalone rosette, chrome, 18-1 Grover tuners; bound neck and body; rosewood bridge and fingerboard; Low-Z and Hi-Z inputs; dot markers. The Equis Extra Preamp has controls for Bass, Mid, Treble, Presence and volume. The Grover tuners are a big plus, this baby seems to constantly stay IN TUNE which is wonderful. The cutaway body is great because I am a big fan of the high notes and this makes access to the high frets a lot easier! The only down side to the guitar is that there is no strap bolt on the neck, therefore, you have to use a "tie on" strap. No biggie, a lot of acoustic/electrics don't have a neck strap bolt.

Sound : 10
For $299, you'd expect a guitar that sounds like you paid $299...not the case with the Washburn EA-9! It sounds golden and produces full rich tones if you are playing high or low notes or chords. A friend played it and said "Sounds great for a $600 guitar!" Little did he know...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The glossy black makes me feel like I borrowed Johnny Cash's guitar. It really shines, therefore, it can get "smudgy" pretty easy if you play a lot. No biggie, just wipe it off and you're back to a pretty shiney black beauty. I was amazed with the action on the Washburn EA-9! Low and smoooooooooth. No buzzing on any of the frets and the low action allows for full tone on open or barred chords. The rosewood fret board is a big big plus also, I love rosewood but that's just my personal opinion. Not a big fan of the Washburn strings that came on it, kinda rough feeling to me, however, I'm a fan of Elixirs but once again, that's just a personal opinion. The Equis Pre-Amp is a God send! It makes this baby really ring true when you plug it in.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Feels solid, smells like a forest. The Grover Tuners are a big plus, however, it could use a neck strap bolt. It's an acoustic/electric which means it has a big hollow body which could easy be crushed if you jumped on it. I have another Washburn guitar and the reliabilty seems to be great. They are solid guitars. I'd gig without a back up.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with them.

I love this guitar! Everything about it seems to fit my taste and demands to a "T." I am still amazed that it was only $299, what a great guitar for such little money! I compared this to the Washburn EA-8 (only available at Music123.com) and I chose this because it came with Grover Tuners AND the Equis Pre-Amp. The EA8 is similar but only the Natural colored version comes with Grover Tuners (which are tons better then generic tuners.) Wish I would have bought the case though.

Got this guitar at the recommendation of the acoustic shop folks at SAM ASH. I thought i wanted a Strata-Coustic but when you play one unplugged they sound horrible. When you strum this guitar after that the sound was very good, clean, and excellent tone. Electric controls are sufficient and work well. The finish is very cool, gloss black with white trim and grover tuners. Always stays in tune. The only thing missing is a strap bolt on the neck, i hate that tie on strap thing on the neck so i give it a 9 for missing that chunk of hardware. Says its made in china but the workmanship is fine.

Sound : 10
I am playing this through a guitarport and playing everything from old Bowie, Who, Black Sabbath to the Cult and the Ramones. You can make this guitar sound like anything with a guitarport but the tone is perfect for the rock acoustic stuff on its own. Plying closer to the bridge gives it a more jangly sound and strumming in the middle has a full rich warm tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action is low for an acoustic which is what sold me immediately when playing it. Had one odd problem with the G string which was fixed by replacing the strings with Martin Marquis strings.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I don't play live so i have no opinion on that. I have 4 kids which might exceed any road dangers with time if they try to ride it down the stairs or smear it with pop tart goo. Overall the finish is very good with no flaws, when its polished up it glows. I did manage to bang it on something metal and sharp once and it did chip the finish a little which i would expect.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Washburn never answers their emails. Not cool since most people live by email now. The dealer did a setup for me for the price of a set of new strings which i thought was really nice.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 3 years and would recoomend this guitar to anyone since the tone is very good for the price but that's what Washburn is known for.
