On top of owning just about every cool guitar ever made, I just acquired a Wayne Rock Legend. By far, this is THEE guitar to have if you're tastes are 80's rock, metal, 70's classic rock, with some gain on your amplifier! 22 massive jumbo frets make up the neck, profile is a flat radius fretboard with some really nice birdseye figuring. Some of the best birdseye I've ever seen, honestly. The body is alder, with the best hardware you can buy. I have a hot rod flame, and I feel very lucky to have found this guitar, thanks to ebay. I have a Duncan JB, happens to sound great in this guitar. Doesn't over distort the original tone. I have grown into the 1-11/16 neck profile. I was 1-5/8 for years. Nice action, almost right on the fret.-all the way to the nut! NO fancy flame top on mine, trust me, you won't miss it once you start playing on this neck, it's THAT comfortable. Body is a vintage strat style, what more do you want!?
Sound

Sounds are truly amazing. guitar absolutely does not compromise it's tones. They are all in there. This guitar breathes life into a players talents. The electronics are shielded, which makes this ax so quiet, even on very loud gainy amp settings. A plus if you are in a rock band. I use Marshalls, and 6505's. These amps seem to make the guitar come alive!! When you turn down the volume knob, the guitar seems to clean up. Helps for the rhythm tones, and cleaner sounds. Makes any effect sound cool.

Holy moly, what a set up!! There is no question about it, the BEST setup guitar from the factory ever. You can tell as much work goes into this part of the guitar as well. No flaws on mine, all the alignments were right on, and everything was tight. The pickup is the real deal, no corners are cut, and the finish is immaculate. Once again, no complaints.

Live situation's is where this ax comes alive! I can't feel more confident playing this on any stage. Which is where this guitar was designed to be. I feel this is all I need.

Michael is a good honest guy, won't steer you wrong. He called me back one day I remember last year and we talked for about 20 minutes. Real great guy, likes to talk shop. Any good guitarist likes to talk shop. Easy to talk to, makes good customer relations.

I've been playing for about 30+ years. Owned plenty of guitars, some were good, others weren't. Don't really know until you try them out. ON stage is best place for this one. I would like another one someday, maybe 2 pickups. Great case too.

This guitar is made by the man , or sould I say the founder of custom guitar's Wayne Carvel . Try to get a PRS made by Paul Reed Smith . The Legend I have is a 2004. 1 p/u ,floyd rose, alder body red with black hardware, flame maple neck, this guitar has the new head stock . You can order these guitar away you want for your playing style . The fret work done on this guitar is unbelievable . Fast playing neck etc .

Mine is a 2002 Wayne Rock Legend, Alder body, rosewood board, birdseye neck, black & white bullseye finish. It's got a JB in the bridge and an Alnico II in the neck, 3-way toggle and single volume, non floating Floyd Rose and a D-Tuna. The paint job is great, its got that old school metal vibe, Zakk Wylde meets Twisted Sister, needless to say I don't take it many auditions cause it looks so crazy. I waited almost 2 full years to review this guitar I wanted to be fair and out of the "honeymoon" phase. I've played this guitar at alot of gigs and done a/b comparisons with my 2 Tylers, a PRS and 2 Andersons. Not alot of features. It's a rock guitar but it's not meant to be a jack of all trades.
My one beef (two actually) is that the neck heel is enormous, they should sculpt them so you can up to high frets without contortion maneuvers, and two, the truss rod access point is under the neck pickup. That is bullshit, I know the old charvels were done that way, but come on guys....it's the year 2000, times change and I don't want to have to take my damn neck off everytime I need to adjust the truss rod.
Sound
:No Opinion
This guitar is the best sounding one of the bunch. Better than my PRS, Les Paul, James Tyler and Anderson. I know that might sound like hype, and no the Wayne can't cop any strat tones, it's a full out rock machine. But for rock, no other guitar I've had can best it. Compared to my Tyler, which also has a JB in the bridge, the Wayne just has more balls. It's hard to describe but you can hear it. The guitar is just louder, more resonant, meaner...
Action, Fit, & Finish
:9
Guitar was set up perfect, the neck playes like butter. It's a shredder neck but doesn't get anoying like an Ibanez neck. It's the real deal old Charvel vibe. The guitar had a few spots on the finish where it looked like the paint got under the masking tape, hard to see but present. This is a hand painted finish and I'd rather have a small blem than a perfect graphic that was a decal.
Reliability/Durability

This guitar is built like a tank, enough said. Only tried and true components were used. Built to last

I've spoken to Michael a few times about getting a new neck, he mentioned he'd do it in 6 months....never happened. I can't get them to return my calls, to be fair though, I haven't really called them thayt much and they are busy guys.
Overall Rating

This is my best sounding rock guitar....PERIOD. I can't use it at all my gigs cause it doesn't cover all the bases. I do some session work, can you imagine me pulling out the Bullseye Wayne backing up a girl pop singer...me neither. But when I do a rock gig this thing SLAYS! They build something special into these guitars, it's not something you can see (like a Tom Anderson) or feel (like a Tyler) but you can HEAR it on a Wayne...moreso than the others. True, it's not versatile, if you want that buy an Anderson. But versatility is itself a compromise. When you need a NO COMPROMISE rock monster get a WAYNE!

2001 Wayne Rock Legend. Not sure of the body wood, but it has a maple on maple neck (birdseye, of course), and junbo frets. This is the killer Charvel neck, that destroys everything else. Mine has the hot-rod flame finish. When I was looking into the Waynes, I talked to Mike Charvel (super nice guy), he said he had a piece he was making for himself, but he didn't know if he was gonna keep it or not. Well, thank God he decided to sell.
Him and Jim O'Conner, hand painted the pin-stripes around the flames......very cool.
This one has all the trimmings us hair-metal guys like......you know, 2 Seymour Duncan hums, original Floyd Rose, no tone knob, super fast action and killer set-up. Blah, blah, blah......you know what we like. It's your typical heavy-metal guitar, but of extremely high quality.
Sound
:8
For what I play, (mostly hair metal, old school thrash or New Wave Of Swedish Melodic Death Metal), it does every sound I need. With the bridge hum, you can do all the Lynch/Van Halen/Timmons you want to. But when you add in the neck hum, it gets really fun. Kinda' hard to believe, but you can do some cool jazzy stuff, and top 40's radio rock too.
When I first got it, I was exclusively using the JB in the bridge. Just shredding away on all this Dimebag stuff. I didn't even want to toggle up into the other pickups. But then I thought, what the hell, I might as well just try it. Whoaaa......I was knocked back. It really sings w/ the neck pup going. Now I play all my scales, w/ the neck pup.
There is just WAY to many varieties of sounds you can get out of this, for me to list them all.
The tone wood used, is also excellent. Really bright, and resonant w/ the maple neck. And I have always loved the original Floyds.
But, when the day is done, there is no doubt that this guitar is made for heavy metal/rock-n-roll. Don't expect to get country and hip-hop and all that other bunk out of it. It truly harkens back to the hey-day of the shredder, when the Jacksons, Kramers, and Charvels ruled the scene.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
I just have to give this a 10. This bitch was made to shred on, straight out of the case.
Wayne takes his time, and truly babies each and every piece that he touches. This bodes well for anyone who is looking into buying a Wayne.
He sets them up himself, and makes sure they are all perfect before they leave the shop. Mine was no exception. The string heighth was almost exactly how I like it. The trem was evenly balanced, and didn't need touched. The action was nice and low, just how I like it. Of course, this was also due to me keeping in touch w/ Mike, and letting him know how I like my guitars set-up.
Over all, I didn't need to touch a thing, when I got it. I just pulled it out of the case, plugged it in, and played all day and night.
Reliability/Durability
:9
Like I said, everything on this guitar is of the highest quality. I don't see me having any problem w/ it lasting.
I also take care of my stuff......that helps. But I think guitars are meant to be played, and not just pined over. And when I pay this much for a guitar, you better believe I'ma play the shit out of it. I've had it for over 6 mos. already, and no problems.
9, I hope.

I came into this guitar half way through it's birth, so I kinda' had the chance to spec it out, how I wanted it.
I worked w/ Mike on it, and called and e-mailed him several times.
Absolutely wonderful. No hiccups at all.

I've been playing for around 13 years. I've always had a weakness for the custom "super-strats". I've owned several U.S.A. guitars. Everything from B.C. Riches to Hamers, to Jacksons and Kramers and this is truly the crown jewel of them all. I can honestly say, this is the best guitar I've ever owned.
I like it so much, I just ordered a Monster from Guitar Asylum. It should be in my hands in about a week. I can't wait.
I play through a Laney VH100R w/ a few effects. It's really a nice pile of gear, and works well together. But, I would like to get a hold of a Mesa triple or a Bogner XTC, and see what it would do through those. But I'm happy w/ what I've got.
If it were stolen or lost (how the f**k would you lose it???), I would freak out. I don't know what I would play, while I was waiting for a new one to come.
Let me just say, I have no regrets at all, about purchasing a Wayne Rock Legend.

As far as solid body rock guitars go, the Wayne is like the Jaguar of the guitar world. Everything about this guitar speaks of a meticulous attention to detail and painstaking quality control. The body is solid alder, and the pickups are Seymour Duncan. The pickup configuration is H/S/S, with the bridge being a JB, and the other 2 being Hot Rails. It has a 22 fret fingerboard, with "jumbo" frets, although the frets don't seem as big as the ones in my ESP George Lynch. The finish on the frets themselves is amazing. The neck is lightly oiled birdseye maple, with an incredible feel to it. The neck radius is wide and flat, perfect for shred guitar playing. Also included is an EVH D-Tuna; I do not play in dropped D tuning, but this device makes it so easy to do, that I will begin experimenting with it. Bridge is a chrome orignal Floyd Rose. The feel of the trem is a little stiff compared to what I'm used to (ESP and Ibanez Jems). The most astonishing feature of the guitar is, of course, the hand painted graphic. This one is a wrap-around python skin graphic painted on top, sides, and back, and is nothing short of breathtaking! My only quibble with this guitar is that I would like to have seen routing under the bridge. As it is, the trem can only go down; you cannot pull up on the trem. Price included a hardshell case with keys and basic hex key set.
Sound
:10
This guitar is most definitely a rock/metal guitar, if the paint job and pickup choice don't say it, then the neck radius and Floyd trem do. I play guitar in the New York City based progressive band Twilight Odyssey (www.twilight-odyssey.com), and the sound is a blend of progressive rock and European hard rock/metal. Influences include Iron Maiden, Fates Warning, Rush, Rainbow, Blind Guardian, Genesis, etc. My basic guitar rig is a Fulltone Full-Drive 2 (see review elsewhere on this site) going into a Rivera Knucklehead K-100 stack w/Rivera cabs(review also on this site). This guitar has a warm sound with a LOT of sustain! The pickups are mounted directly to the body of the guitar, which I suppose adds to the sustain. There is a nice percussive "chunk" when you play that adds that "baseball card in a bicycle wheel" effect to your playing that makes shredding sound great. There is an even balance in volume between all of the pickups, which rest kind of high. Getting screaming pinched harmonics out of the guitar is pretty easy, although the basic tone does not seem to be rich in harmonics when you are playing riffs. With the mids slightly boosted on my head, I got a great super-high-gain distorted sound. Clean, the guitar sounds great as well. NOTE ABOUT WAYNE GUITARS: Like any other hand-built guitar, each Wayne guitar sounds and plays a little different, even tho 99% of them have the same body material, neck, bridge, and bridge pickup. I cannot explain this phenomenon, but the guitar I purchased sounded way better than the other Waynes I played in the same shop at the same time through the same amp. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!! I fell in love with this guitar the second I picked it up, and the sound was better than other Wayne guitars on the same wall (in my opinion).
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Guitar Asylum makes sure every Wayne guitar is set up at the shop, so it played like a dream the second I picked it up. As a curteousy, Rob even double checked the action before I packed up the guitar and took it home. There is the slightest buzzing at the top of the neck, but you cannot hear it through the amp, and you are gonna get some buzzing when you have really low action and jumbo frets. It does not inhibit the sustain or playability of the guitar at all. The fit and finish of this guitar borders on the psychotic!
Reliability/Durability
:10
Ths guitar seems utterly reliable and of extremely high quality. The only thing I will be changing on it are the strap locks to the Dunlop locking kind. I would never ever play a gig with only one guitar, too much can go wrong, and they all sound different, but this guitar is quickly becoming my main axe.
Customer Support
:10
WAYNE CUSTOMER SUPPORT: I called them a couple of times when I was deciding which guitar to buy, and found them to be wonderful. Even spoke to Mike Charvel a couple of times, and found him to be curteous, helpful, and very interested in my music and playing style, making sure that his guitar was right for my needs. The Warranty is one year, and I have no worries about any gliches in the guitar; I own several high end guitars, and have not doubt they will do the right thing should something go wrong.
GUITAR ASYLUM SUPPORT: Both Rob and Gary were super-nice guys and were great sources of information. Of course, there is no way to determine how "real" a potential customer is, and they did not know me, but they were very helpful in any case. I only visited the shop once, and bought the guitar right on the spot. They are a high end shop and understand how to treat the high end customer with the proper amount of guidance, freedom , and respect. Rob let me play every model of Wayne several times, except for one already sold, which shows a great loyalty to their customers. He could've let me play the one sold to see how it sounded, but it was reserved for another customer, and Rob was clearly concerned about keeping the guitar in the same coniditioni it was purchased in.

I have been playing guitar for 18 years. My other guitars include a 1979 Strat w/Joe Barden pickups, an ESP George Lynch, an Ibanez Jem, Fender Roland Ready Strat, Roland GR-30 and VG-88, AKG wireless sytem, and a Marshall EL-34 100/100 power amp. Thats' my MAIN GEAR.
This guitar is a classic and I hope Wayne has much success with it, while keeping the same level of quality, and NEVER going production on this guitar!!

This guitar will do any tone I'm looking for! Very defined, with great sustain and incredible chunk! Play it through a Rivera Fandango 100 watt 2x12 combo with a MXR Micro Amp, Boss Super-Overdrive, Line-6 MM4 pedal and a Boss DD3 delay. This guitar is thicker and sustains more than my White 2000 Les Paul Custom w/ the same pickups!

The factory set up the guitar but Rob from the Guitar Asylum in Hauppauge did an ass kicking setup for me before I bought it! He dressed the frets and made it play like butter!! I did a quick setup on the EVH ?D-Tuna? when I got it home and it now goes from "D" to "E " like nothing! Action feels like a Les Paul with more room! No flaws in the guitar period!!!
Reliability/Durability

My band played a 40-plus-song gig last night with no glitches whatsoever! I didn't have to retune once other than drop "D" songs and back, which was simply awesome with the D-Tuna! The finish is unbelievable that I can tell will never be a problem. The only change I made was installing Dunlop strap-locks. I had my Les Paul Custom that I have to retune during every song with me at the gig last night and never picked it up except to put it in the case at the end of the night!!
