I've been collecting Charvel's since 1983 and I have probably
played over 100 to 200 hundred of them. I still own over 30 charvels. I just can't get enough of them. Till now. Since Wayne and
Mike have started Wayne Guitars I have bought 3 of them
and 1 more is on the way. They play, sound, look and feel incredible.
The way I am with buying guitars I'll probably own another 10 by the end of the year!!! The best thing about them is now I can get
a guitar any way I have imagined with the best guy making them Wayne.
Ok as for the details of the guitars.
Here goes:
First Guitar
------------
Rock Legend
Black with blue pinstriping outlining yellow flames(front and back).
Rosewood neck
1 hum
1 volume
Crome floyd
Second Guitar
-------------
Rock Legend
Bright orange with wayne logo's all over it.
Ebony neck
1 hum
1 vol
Black floyd
Third Guitar
------------
Exotic Wood
It's all made from Zebra wood neck and body. Really heavy guitar
Ebony neck
1 hum
1 vol
black floyd

The guitars sound incredible. I'm playing thru a hafler triple
giant to a soldano 100watt power amp with marshall half stack
cabinet. The sound is to say the least FULL, BALLZY and they
Sustain for ever. I can go out and get a bite and the guitar is
still humming. Especially the Zebra wood!!

Each guitar was setup so perfect that when I got them
the only thing I had to do was open the case and plug them
in. All in tune and ready to go!!! The workmanship is flawless!!
You can tell when someone takes pride in his workmanship.
The product comes out perfect.

These guitars are solid. There is no skimping on material. Mike
and Wayne use the best materials available. Beside you
can pick whatever materials you want. Wait till you hold
one and you will feel the quality of workmanship.

I have spoken to Mike and Wayne on numerous occasions and
have never had any problems with them. They are a Team that
will give you the shirt off their backs!!!! For a price of course!! Never had any problems with the guitars either. The only
problem is that it's a long wait to get one. Unless you are
lucky. BUT IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've played a lot of guitars, and this is in my opinion the ferrari of electric guitars. It's very organic feeling, and not sterile like a lot of other guitars. You can tell it's a hand built guitar.

I got lucky and bought one of the first 10 Rock Legends Wayne built a couple years ago , i guess the guitar was a '99 model. I have had three strats over the years , and wanted something more for the tones you just can't get any other way . My Guitar has the most amazing black and white checkerboard paint job , you could just get lost in the clearcoat .You won't see this level of excellence in the finish work on this type of guitar from anyone else .Just perfect. The paintjob made you want to play better! The neck finish , carve and fretwork are superior to any I've found in 30 + years of playing , and gathering guitars , I hate to call it collecting .Even the case is gorgeous .

I play the Rock legend thru a Johnson Millenium 150 , a Paevey Delta
Blues with the 15" speaker and believe it or not a '49 Fender Princeton .Teh Seymour Duncans combined with the Alder body and Maple neck give you a strong clear tone you can flavor any way you want , depending on your pick attack and available wattage .On the back pickup with the tone pot rolled off you can even get some smokey Jazz tones that will surprise you .All in all the guitar has a strong sonic personality that anyone can work with .No surprises , and that's a good thing !
Action, Fit, & Finish
:

My Legend was set up ( as they all are ) by the Man Himself , Wayne Charvel . I know it sounds corny , but it just doesn't get any better than that .Again , no surprises , just a simple rock and roll machine ready to go right out of the box.

No trouble so far....I think these guys have been at this long enough to build a near bullet proof guitar for people who play hard .RealHard.I would certainly depend on this axe for a stage guitar, and so would my kid , if I would let him .

I've had the pleasure of visiting the shop where they build these beasties many times , since I live in the same town .I have had other guitars set-up and gotten alot of good advice from these people on how to bet the best from my other guitars .There's not much they don't know , and they'll tell you .Excellent , friendly ( good sense of humour , too ) service.I haven't had any problems , so i can't say about the warranty , but I think you can count on Wayne and Mike to do right by you .

I've been playing guitar and playing with guitars since 1966...way tooo long to screw around with boring guitars .I confess I am more of a set-neck freak..but when it comes to a durable , dependable rock& roll machine ...you can't beat the fundamental strength of the Strat design , and Wayne just goes the extra mile to make it better .Would I buy another ? Certainly .What do I love about it ? I love that neck and the frets...they just suck you into playing that leetle bit better than you thought you could .The finsh is great , and there's no un-neccesary junk to go wrong . Just a great American Made electric guitar .

I just got this fabulous guitar from Wayne Charvel "the rock legend" it is amazing because I have been playing a strat for like 25 years then a tele for the last two years, then i decited to try out this guitar only because i was up at his shop and saw the peice of wood before it was finished. it is very lite so its easy to hold up for the whole evening, but what really suprised me was the floyed it really does stay in tune! i had them paint it in a translucent red flam job over a beautiful maple body, everywhere i play it people just go crazy over it. It was a little hard to get use to at first cause the ebony neck seemed a little wide but after a few days i must admit that once agin I really like it! In my opinion no one on this earth can set up a guitar like wayne charvel, he spends an intire day doing just one guitar, sometimes taking it apart 3 to 4 times before he gets it right, I guess thats why they are so expensive, but i would buy another one if i for some reason lost this ax! theonly bad things i can say about it is... the charvels are very slow so if you intend on buying one of these guitars be patiant!also i keep breaking strings down at the saddle but after having a conversation with micheal about it i have come to the conclusion that it very well could be my fault for making them a little to tight! if you have any questions or would love to see this beautiful instrament i will be more than happy to send you pictures just email me thanks ... rshalita@pacbell.net

im really not sure but i think i did put all of this up there ^ i have been playing 40 some odd years almost 30 as a pro, no i asked everything i needed to,yes i defenatly would buy another one, i love the sound, the weight, the wammy is my favorite feature, yes i compared it to other guitars, i really chose this one because wayne the man! lives up in my area and i have done busness with him when he had a retail store and after years of talking to him i thought he new what he was talking about, and he did! anything else? hmmmm i dare you to go out and get a wayne guitar yes they are pricey yes they take a while to complete, but after all it is an extension of what you feel! I really wouldnt have botherd to take the time to write all of this if I hadnt wanted to share my great reward of owning this fine instrament!

AAA maple neck and fretboard. Original Floyd w/ D-tuna. Van Halen II black with yellow stripes paint job. DiMarzio Evolution in the bridge and a Duncan Hotrail in the neck. Made just the way I asked. I guess that makes it a 10.
Sound
:

I ordered it with a JB Jr. in the neck and a JB in the bridge. After a while I decided I wanted a less polished sound with more growl so it slaped a Duncan Custom in the bridge (my normal setup). Pretty close. Finally, I installed a DiMarzio Evolution in there and now it screams bloody murder! I always considered myself a Duncan man but, oh well.
The sound of this guitar is SO ALIVE it makes my other axes sound kind of like they have dead strings on them. I think the biggest contributing factor is the unfinished neck. I sounds like it "breathes" more and resonates better than a guitar with a finish on the neck. Not steril at all. Very organtic sounding.

The only bummer was that one of the locking nut screws were stripped causing some tuning problems. I emailed Mike and he gave me some advice. Five cents later and the problem was solved (screw with bigger threads).
The finish on this thing is SO deep. Nice job. Very rich looking. Thick clear coat.
After I had it for six months I decided it was time to reshape the neck to fit my hand. Yeah, I know it's not a normal thing to do to a $2800 guitar but hell, it is supposed to be a "custom" guitar so I customized it some more. It's not like I'm ever going to sell it and the damn thing is ment to ROCK not collect dust.
I took my time, removed the neck a total of four times sanding and reshaping it. Besides making the neck thinner (yeah I know this makes it weaker) the most important mod it did was to remove the slope of the neck right up to where it meets the heel of the body. Now I have a super comfortable neck all the way up to the 17th position. I'm currently toying with the idea of scolloping the fretboard from the 15th fret on up. We'll see.

Been playing for 18 years. I wouldn't mind having 24 frets (rather than the 22) and I wouldn't mind having better upper fret access (like a more extended cutaway and sculpted neck/heel joint) but the whole point of the Rock Legend is to create a guitar that is a return to the San Dimas strats of the Late 70's. I could always do the Steve Vai thing and use a drum sander to make the cutaway deeper like on his old Charvel Green Meanie. JUST KIDDING!!!
Thanks for a great guitar Wayne. I love it.

Made 2001, USA (california). She has 22 Jumbo frets on a highly figured Birdseye Maple board and neck, solid Alder strat style body with Pewter (metallic grey) finish, . She is equipped with 2 Seymour Duncan humbuckers (Jazz for the neck and JB for bridge) with 1 volume and 1 tone control (tone for neck pickup only), 3 way toggle selector. Bridge is an original Floyd Rose locking tremolo system. Gotoh non-locking tuners (all chrome hardware). Came with a "Fender" style case, allen wrenches, case key, anti-moisture packett. If it had came with the "candy sack" with cables, strap, etc. like Custom Shop Fenders, this category would have received a 10.

I picked her up today and plugged her in as soon as i got home. I use a Soldano SLO-100 and Mesa Boogie Mk IV (2 of the best amps in my opinion) with a Boogie half back 4x12 Cabinet (I switch amps depending on my mood - but mostly use SLO). She sounds fantastic through the SLO with no effects needed, pure sonic pleasure. For effects, wah pedal, TC Chorus/Flander, and Boss Delay Pedal. This guitar is excellent. It fits my style very well since I'm into strat style guitars, so I feel at home with this neck (it's more of a thicker neck than a typical USA Jackson neck). The neck is unfinished which makes it smoother and quicker (in my opinion that is). On the SLO's Overdrive Channel, she was clear and sparkled, every note in the chord was defined. Magnificent tone which is clearly defined from my other 3 guitars. I like buying guitars that each have different tonal characteristics - for reasons of wide open spaces. Dislikes? yeah, I wish I had this guitar years ago!
Action, Fit, & Finish

The guitar was set up nice. I ordered the guitar to have a recessed cavity for the Floyd Rose so pull backs can be achieved, so the trem was adjusted evenly with plenty of room to play with. The action is just right where there is no buzzing, fretting-out, etc. The pickup height seems normal (no problems there). The finish was congruent, even, no smudges, no scratches, bumps or bruises, or cracks at the neck joint. I do have a bit of a scratchy volume pot but that problem was rectified right away with some electronic cleaner. The 3-way toggle is tight, so it has to be worn in.

I do intend playing gigs with this guitar. For what I paid for this guitar, everything had better last. I would depend on this guitar to go through an entire set without any problems, but would still gig with a backup as this guitar is Floyd equipped and those who use Floyds know what happens when strings break. I also use a Jackson USA Custom Shop Soloist, Jackson USA RR-1, and Fender Relic 50's Strat. One of the guitars may go but not the Wayne.

I never dealt with the factory, but the salesman I bought from has informed me that they are good and trying to keep up the best they can with the orders. It has a one year warranty that I will examine later but chances are that it may never need to be used. Since I dealt with the salesman, Rob, and he has always provided me with an answer and no bullshit and with great service on my other guitars. I inquired on a price from another local NY dealer, described on paper everything I was looking for and the DICKHEAD never got backed to me and from I understand, he turns off interested parties and they all find Rob. This category gets the rating it deserves because I wasn't fed BULLSHIT (even though I never dealt with Charvel and Son). Thanks Rob!!!

I've been playing for about 14 years. I wouldn't mind picking up one of those other Rock Legends on display at the Shop, hell I would buy them all if I won that $300 million dollar Power Ball. I would definitely purchase another one, I would sell a couple of guitars to accumulate funds. To date, this is the best sounding guitar played through my SLO-100 in comparison to my other axes. Love or Hate? Nothing I hate about it. I hear players critique the headstock design and dub it as "bottle opener". Look! Jackson headstocks were "queer" when they were first introduced. I have no opinion of it other than that I like. If Charvel & Son products catch on, I'm sure players' opinions on the headstock would become a negligible factor since they would be so enchanted by the feel and tone of these fine instruments. I was in the midst of purchasing a custom shop guitar about 8 months ago, particularly interested in a Jackson, but they had hiked their prices up and the wait period was ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, a custom Jackson is worth the wait and price (I'm positive on that) but I personally want my demands met in the shortest amount of time (I'm picky which is typical of the engineer that I am). So Rob had some Wayne Guitars on display, I tried a few and I was SOLD - END OF STORY, P.S. I'm going to play my new ROCK LEGEND some more~~~

My wayne guitar fits my style very very well. I like guitars w/ cool grapics and to me this guitar is the real deal. I use a three way system starting w/a soldono SLO-100,HH power amp,ibanez-SDR-1000,TC electronic 2290,BBE-482,mxr-90,mxr-flanger,X-wire,rane-EQ,3-soldono cabs, rocktron patchmate w/ foot controler for effects. its is not noicey what so ever. this guitar has the best tone and sustain I have heard in a long time and fantastic tone, its that 80s thing for me. I am convinced that the wayne guitars are the best guitars made today!!

The action on my wayne guitar is... We'll lets this say this " it doesn't get any better than this" The neck I beleive is the same feel as the old charvels from the late seventies which to my understanding is the " most sought out necks in the word " wayne & micheal really know how to make perfection on these guitars. The paint jobs are the coolest I've seen as well. They can do anything you want even something they haven't done ,they have some real artist working for them!

As far as reliability goes I believe that a truck can run over this thing and It will stay in tune. I have done everything I could to get this thing to go out of tune and it right on, thats cool!! I have delt w/both wayne & micheal and I can honestly say they are the most down to earth guys I have ever met, sometimes when the phones aren't ringing off the hook they sit there and chat which I think thats neat!! If you have a problem or question about your guitar they are very very helpful. You always don't get that. warrenty is good and fair but do to the qaulity I wouldn't worry about it

I have been playing for 18 yrs and I also own all jackson/charvels guitars. If this thing were to get stolen I would be pissed but yes I would defently get another one! What I really like about this thing is the feel, sound, look and especialily the quality. There is no comparison to other guitars made today, to me wayne is the only one that is still sticking to his guns and believes in quality not quanity and means alot. He did it back in the late seventies and he is doing it again, I really respect that and really hope that he never changes. We all should be grateful that these guitar are available but don't take my word " just play one and you will know what I mean "

The guitar was made in the USA last year (2000) by Wayne Charvel. It has 22 jumbo frets, ebony fretboard on a 1 5/8" nut width birdseye maple neck. Machineheads are by Gotoh. The premium alder body is strat style with the usual elegant Wayne Charvel contours. Pickups are two Seymour Duncan humbuckers- Jeff Beck Zebra at the bridge and Alnico II at the neck. Single volume control with three-way selector switch. The bridge is a Floyd Rose Original double locking trem in chrome. Finished in high gloss white with custom Hot-rod flame graphics by Jim O' Connor (I've never seen such high quality graphics before this!!) It came with a hard case.

I've been playing for 15 years and I've tried most of the major guitar companies Fender, Gibson, Charvel/Jackson but there always seemed to be something missing, if the action was good there would be something I didn't like with the sound etc. The Rock Legend was built to my own spec and I just can't find any fault with it. It took me 3 years to track Wayne Charvel down and this guitar has made it all worthwhile.
