my guitar is a 2001 wayne special, made in Paradise, CA. It's a 22 fret monster of a guitar with a quilted maple top and an alder body with a contoured back. It has a five way switch which is able to pull the sweetest punchiest humbucker tones and the clearest single coil tones from the two custom wound dimarzio passive humbuckers. The neck is oiled instead of lacquered so my hands don't start sticking to it. Also, it has an ebony fretboard on a bird's eye maple neck. The bridge is a recessed double locking floyd rose tremolo that can bring the strings all the way to the fretboard, and keep them in perfect tune. Neck has nice wide string spacing, and it's faster than your sister.

My style of music is constantly evolving. But, this guitar can get the fattest, sweetest blues you can imagine. It can sustain for hours. It can pick and grin just like a tele. It can do santana, only with better tone. I play this guitar through a sundown A-36, no effects are necessary. It's sound is full of great overtones, and false harmonics are a breeze. It's beautiful.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Everything finish wise is perfect. Attention to detail is astounding. It was concert ready from the box. Pickups are adjusted perfectly.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've used this guitar live only once. Not because it's not durable. Because I'm afraid someone might try to steal it. The hardware is sturdy as hell. The finish is tough. My picking technique usually takes the paint right off most guitars, but this still looks brand new. Yes, this guitar is definitely gig worthy

Customer Support : 10
I've had no needs to deal with the company, though the guitar came with a transferrable 100% satisfaction or your money back 5 year warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
I haven't been playing long, but I have surpassed the other players around most of the south east in ability and passion. I only use one of two strats, both american deluxes. I use a fender deluxe and a sun down a-36. I also use a custom class a amp. I use no effects save a compressor, sparingly. I love this guitar, but I've recently learned that I like the singing tone of the stratocaster. I realize the wayne is better, but I'm always one to root for the unerdog. Consequently, I'm selling the wayne. Gimme an email if you're interested.

I have had my American made 2000 Wayne Special for a year now. It is a beautifully crafted instrument with great attention to even the smallest detail and no cosmetic defects; 22 frets with a quilted maple top and alder body(unique flat top with contoured back), maple neck with rosewood fingerboard; 3 Seymore Duncan pickups, one vol, one tone, 5 way toggle switch, hardtail (string-through-body bridge(, passive electronics, gold hardware and Gotoh tuners, thin neck with medium frets and hardshell case.

I do a lot of home recording and wanted to add a guitar to my arsenal that had a wide variation of tones. This guitar produces beautiful tones from a biting clear bridge position to warm and mellow neck position with lots of variation of tones in between. I have been playing through a 30 watt Peavey Delta Blues amp and have sidetracked my effects because the sound just straight through is punchy, rich and clear and I just haven't felt the need for effects like I do with my Strats. I am a very picky person but I haven't found anything yet that I don't like with this instrument.

My Wayne Special was set up perfectly straight from the factory. It has a low action with no buzzing at all. The balance between all pickup combinations is impeccable and I can switch between any of the pickup selections and get the tone I want without having to futz with the volume. The quilted maple top is perfectly bookmatched with antique looking binding and flawlessly painted black body. The intonation on every string at every fret was perfect and the frets were highly polished when I bought it. The maple neck is oiled and has a really unique rich tone to the maple that I have never seen on another guitar. Either the neck was made from a one-of-a-kind piece of maple or there is some trick to how they did the finish because it has a glow that I have not seen on another guitar. I like the oiled neck because I can move my fretting hand all up and down the neck witout any sticking from a shiny lacquer finish. The bolt on neck joint is perfect and tight with no space between the upper edge of the neck and the body. The control knobs are knurled metal with a good feel and easy to manipulate.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have packed this guitar around for a year now and it stays in tune and I haven't had to have any tune up work done yet. I think that after a year, any defects or instability would have shown, but so far there have been none. The finish is rich and durable and I have bumped it a few times but it seems to have weathered the bumps without any nicks or dents (thank God!) I have a very old strat which I leave at home because I fear losing it but I am quickly getting to this point with my Wayne because it is so perfect for me that I don't know if I could replace it. I have never had a problem yet with this guitar so I guess it qualifies for being very dependable. It does just fine on gigs and the only reason for a back-up is to have one in a different tuning or set up for slide. This one covers all the sounds and tones I need.

I called the factory once just to see if there was any special care I needed to take. All my questions were answered and I actually talked to both Michael and Wayne Charvel! I think that was really cool that they would take the time to talk to me instead of just having a worker or voice mail! They were both very interested in my satisfaction and I felt that if anything wasn't right, it would be taken care of.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 44 years and have two Fender Strats and a Martin acoustic. There is nothing I wish I would have asked before I bought this guitar. A friend of mine has one and I was very impressed with his, which by the way, although I think it is a "lower" model than mine (painted, no quilted top), is every bit as well crafted as mine and equal sound. If this guitar was lost or stolen, I would be as devistated as I would be if I lost my prize strat which I have had for thirty years. After checking out my buddy's Wayne and mine, I think that I could replace it with another which would be of equal quality, but you know how it is with guitars, when you have a great one, it is like a family member - irreplaceable!!

I love this guitar. If I lost it I would get another. I am going to get a second one. My friend bought one on the strength of mine and he is getting a second one. Everywhere we play the other guitar players from other bands play our guitars and love them.
