I bought this strictly as a travel guitar, so I didn't expect premium sound from a $240.00 guitar. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the Wechter. I have owned a Baby Taylor, and it served its purpose, but was fairly dead in the tone department. I saw a Martin LX1 that was much better than the Taylor, and was considering buying that guitar until I viewed a video comparison of the Martin and Wechter on YouTube. The Wechter is 1 3/8" longer and 1" wider, and sound quality is markedly better than the Martin.

Time will tell, but the guitar appears to be of high quality materials, and workmanship is very good.

As a primary guitar, this guitar would rate at around a 5-6. As a travel guitar, given it's inherent limitations, I would rate it a 9.

This is probably a year 2001 or 2002 Wechter 1607 Travel acoustic guitar. 22 frets, blue, with a pickup. Standard tone and volume controls. Spruce Top, Maple Back and Sides, Wood Bowl Back, Heavy-Duty Padded Gig bag included.
One thing I liked about this is the neck itself. First of all, it HAS dots on the top of the neck, unlike the Baby Taylors. This should be a given and I can't believe Baby Taylors don't have dots along the top of the neck. Every time I pick up a Baby Taylor, I just laugh at the fact that they sell for $300-400. What a joke.
The neck it self just feels good overall and looks even better. The Baby Taylors have two big screws ON the fingerboard which just look terrible. Not on the Wechter.

The sound is good for a travel guitar. Obviously, is more tinty than your average guitar, but MUCH better than a Papoose or Backpacker.
When plugged in, it sounds much bigger than you would think. It doesn't take a 9-volt like the Yamaha APX-T, so the sound isn't quite good enough to use live. I hear the Yamaha travel guitars(which are no longer made) sound incredible.

It plays really well. Action was fine.

I wouldn't use it live simply because it takes a really hot signal to amplify it, unlike guitars which require a nine volt to boost the pickup. I still love this guitar though and it is built really well.

I've been playing 17 years and a good quality travel guitar is great to have in the collection. I really recommend these for anybody. I have had two friends also buy these because they loved mine so much. This guitar is SSOOOOOOO fun to play. Everyone who picks it up loves it.
I would replace it if it were stolen.
This guitar kicks the pants off the Baby Taylors, which are DOUBLE THE PRICE and have NO pickup. I love Taylor guitars, but their Travel guitar is such a rip off. Don't waste your money. Buy a wechter.
