I picked mine up for a 100 english pounds about 5 years ago. It is the early seventies model because its got a number on the back of the neck. Its black with two di marzio pickups. Its not perfect, its got buckle marks and a couple of dinks on the back and the gold plating is wearing off the bridge and tuners. The tonal features are amazing on this guitar. I love peter Greens out of phase tone and the phase switching gives a pretty good lP greeny tone. It also gets a great blues tone clean and overdriven. Crank it a bit more and there are classic rock tones to be found. Its a got a lovely sustain too. My only complaint would be its very neck heavy and you darn't let go of the the neck. I suppose I could alter the strap position to gain a better balance. Its a very well made guitar and pretty much bomb proof. In my opinion, this guitar is the equal of most quality guitars, unless you really want to splash out a lot of cash.

Sound : 9
Suits my bluesy style well.
I play it through a peavy classic thirty.
It's a bit noisy if you wander too close to the amp.
I would say it leans towards a bright tone but there are also some good fat tones to be gained with the right tone settings and pickup selection.
I would say its a very versatile guitar although classic fender tones are'nt really part of its tonal reportoire.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Dont know.

Reliability/Durability : 10
You could chop wood with this axe.
the hardwares original and has lasted 30 years.
Its dependable but I would never gig without a backup but only due to string breakages.

Ive been playing 38 years.
I would try to get another if it were stolen.
Love the build, hate the weight. my favourite feature is the 18 combination pickup selectors.

1970s Deluxe, handmade in USA (When westburys were first made the first several had serial numbers on the back of the headstock. That was the only way to tell if they were hand made)
Solid maple, carved top, full of seventies features: two double cream DiMarzio humbuckers (super distorion (neck) and dual sound (bridge)), coil tap on bridge pickup, black finish, set neck, slim nzeck profile, brass nut, quality sealed tuning machines (Westbury brand),

Sound : 10
I use this guitar for classic rock (it really shines for Kiss, ZZ-Top, AC/DC and Sabbath covers!), My pedal setup changes frequently, right now it goes into a Marshall ED1 compressor > modded Boss BD2 > RAT, handmade treble booster > Arion chorus > EH Small stone phaser > custom made treble booster. Amps I use are a Fender Super Reverb (silverface) and a plexi clone. The tones are fat and rich, even without any pedals it can really slam the snot out of the preamp tubes.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I bought it used, had to set it up again, and replace one pot. The guitar got a bit 'aged' during the last three decades, some chips in the paint, some buckle wear on the back but nothing really bad.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's a very heavy and a very solid guitar fitted with quality parts. It lasts for 3 decades now, I guess it's undestructable.

#The other guitar player in my band plays gibsons exclusively (SG an LP), this guitar isn't as beautiful as a Gibby but the quality f the construction, the tone and playability are better than my friends LP (and at least as good as the SG) for a lot less $$!

the westbury deluxe i have was made in 1982 in japan.it has 22 frets, guitar is a solid-top.i also still have the original case i also took great care of always kept it clean and scratch free..

Sound : 9
i'm into blues, metal, and just good old rock and roll, i am running this through a crate with 2 12 inch speakers for small bars and halls.has a very crisp sound and nice crunc when i need it..when i feel like getting clean it is very toney in a good way, very clean and crisp..

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
the action is super tight, i don't want to compare it with anything else because its anything but a westbury and i would not play any other guitar but this one. i have played others but this is by far the easiest action i have ever felt.it can...e with two dimarzio's, humbucker and a super distortion, wich gives it aq great bite.ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. when i am in the metal mood!!!!!!!!!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
the guitar has been played for years, the kneck is still original and i never had to tamper with it at all. amazing!!!!!i will play this till i die..strap buttons are great, wood finish shows normal pick wear wich polishes out nice with some elbow grease,no back up needed.depend in it? absolutely..

Customer Support : 9
never had to have any type of work done!

It was made in the early 80's i think. It was made in japan.22 fret
Its a solid top, has 2 volume 2tone 3-way selector switch swith to change it from single coil to twin di-marizo humbucker
the body & neck are either maple or mahogany i can't remember
it's a tabacco sunburst, its body is kind of like half les paul half SG for a bridge it has a tailpeice, its tuners are non locking made by westbury. the neck/scale is 25.5inch
i have a govnor gig bag a short strap but i can't read who its made by
i have 3 leads a 15foot a 2foot( to link up effects pedals)& a 5-7foot lead, I also have a jackhammer & a wah pedal (both very good)

Sound : 9
Basically you won't find many guitars with the same sound as this one it has a amazing clean sound wich I fell in love with the first time I herd it! & the distortion is pretty amazin aswell it suites me & wat i play(rock lead bit of punk NO ska!!)I have a marshall MG15CD series wich makes it sound pretty damn good!!I've played it on many amps & it sounds very nice on all of them. effects only 2 effects pedals a wah & jackhammer sounds good on wah for solos I can solo for hours with that, the jackhammer gives it alot of extra distortion so you can play heavy songs things like that.
is it noisy? what a stupid question yer its an imense guitar on any setting it sounds good. I can't really describe the sound except that its a really good sound. I don't know quiet a few though , likes would be that it plays really well & has an amazin clean sound to it, dislikes well its not really a dislike but I think if it was a bit more distorted I'd definatly give it a 10 but no bodys perfect

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Hmm..at the shop it was the same as it is now pretty good action so i can solo well on it erm..the pickups are pretty damn good!
basically it was pretty good when I bought it

Reliability/Durability : 9
Yes you could kick some real ass with this guitar
everything on it has lasted so far & i never put it down
Its beein quite reliable the only time it let me down was when it wouldn't stay in tune but that was my fault for not stringing it properly
no I would never go to a gig without a backup because you'll never know whats going to happen

Customer Support : 10
They were very friendly & helpful
I got it repaired after the warreny had expired & they did it for free!
3 months second hand

Overall Rating : 9
I've beein playin for about 6 months now & out of all the guitars i've played this has to be one of the best!If it was stolen or lost i'd find it theres no way I'd let that happen
I love the sounds the feel everything really
I don't hate any think really sept that the tuning heads a very light & get moved easils so it can got out of tune easily & its a very very heavy guitar!
I compared it to squire strat, jagmaster & a axl les paul the strat is nothing compaired to my westbury neitheres the jagmaster, but it was a close one between the les paul & my deluxe but the deluxe i liked the feel of it more so thats why i have one

I bought this Westbury SG Delux around 1980. Its tobacco? sunburst colour with twin di-marzio jumbuckers. Still sounds brilliant. Has inlayed mother of pearl Westbury 'W' logo at the nut end.

Considering its about 24 years old and has had a pretty hard life, its in amazing condition. Only a few minor knocks and still an absolute delight to play. Just how good it is became very apparent a few weeks ago when I used a friend's Mexican Fender Strat. He hadn't touched it for a few months. Well it was awful, all the controls had gone scratchy and it felt like a plank.

It has volume & tone for each pickup a phaze selector switch and the usual front/back front/back toggle selector.

The only issue have is the tuning heads are very light & quite easy to knock out of tune, even by laying it down.

I had come into a bit of money and badly needed a decent guitar. My existing guitar had poor intonation so I wanted to find one that was spot on. I spent nealry a whole day in the music shop trying everything , this was the only guitar that had truly perfect intonation!

Don't know all the technical details about the wood etc. I only play the thing but I think the body & neck are all one piece.

Sound : 9
I love the sound, its creamey blues & screams when you wind it up. Super low action means I can fly. Using front pickup & back out of phaze makes a convincing acoustic sound. If it would sustain just a teeny bit longer I would have given a 10.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Total perfection, can't say any more than that. If I could give 100/10 I would.

Reliability/Durability : 10
24 years of rough treatment, still tunes to perfection and sounds brill. Not even a scratchy control, ever.

Customer Support : No Opinion

I fell in love with guitars when I had my first one aged 4, 39 years ago so I know what I like!

If it was stolen or lost, I think I would grieve like for an old friend but replace it with something modern probably.

I love it because its grown up with me and although I have deteriorated, this guitar hasn't.

I used to wish it had a tremolo arm but I soon learned the man's way of doing it;-)

Its very heavy, maybe that's why it sounds so darn good.

Pre 1983. 22 frets, double cutaway tobacco sunburst westbury SG Custom. 2x Gold plated humbuckers with the Westbury signature engraved. Alder body Rosewood neck. Stop tailpiece bridge. Gold coloured Speedknobs laid out as with a Les Paul.

Sound : 10
For Blues and Rock this guitaris wonderful, but it would suit virtually any style. I use it with a Marshall Valvestate combo, and although I do own a couple of Digitech pedalboards, it does sound terrific in it's own right.

I managed to getbackstage at a Climax Blues Band circa and got to talking guitars with Pete Haycock (excellent guitarist), and asked what he'd been using to get such a wide variety of wonderful tones. He said it was the custom SG, and thoroughly reccomended them. Mine came with 2 x Gold Plated humbuckers. The neck pick up had a coil tap built into a gold coloured chickhead selector knob which gave 3x variations on the set tone, plus three split coil variations of that sound. When used with the guitar's own 3 way pickup selector switch the range of tones were/are immense! The machineheads are Schallers labelled up with the Westbury "W". Peter Haycock can be seen holding a black westbury on his website(pete Haycock.com)Mine is a tobacco sunburst, with a properly bookmatched top.The join can only be seen under very close scrutiny. It plays like a dream. I'm nothing to write home about, but even I sound good with this guitar! If you see one, buy it. You won't regret it.

My Westbury Deluxe was bought in 1981 for $500(along with a Roland Cube 20 amp). I bought it used from Guitar Center, so I'm not sure what year it was made. The body is a five-piece maple archtop(three-piece top, two-piece back), with a cherry sunburst. The neck is maple and finished to match the body. The fretboard is a dark rosewood or possibly ebony, with twenty-two frets. The electronics are set up like a Les Paul( two volume, two tone, two humbukers, and a three-way toggle switch). The bridge is a fatter tune-o-matic style with stop tailpiece. The tuners are probably Westbury's own design, since there is a "W" imprinted on each.

Sound : 10
Originially the Deluxe came with Dimarzio humbuckers, the rhythm died the day I bought the guitar and was replaced by another Dimarzio PAF. I recently replaced it with a Duncan Pealy Gates and now a Alnico II. The bridge became really noisy over time and I replaced it eight years ago with a Duncan distortion, then a JB, and finally a Custom Custom. The guitar has a bright focused sound, tight rhythms and a cutting lead. Great for metal and the blues. I play it through a Mesa DC Five combo and Nomad 100 head with Recto and Marshall 2x12 cabinets. Effects are a Boss chorus, Ibanez Delay and a Bad Horsie Wah. The deluxe sounds good even umplugged.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The finish is tough and shows little signs of abuse after twenty years. As mentioned earlier the pickups were replaced. The nut has been replaced. The output jack was replaced. The strap button was on the back heel of the neck originally. The position was awkward for soloing so I had the button moved to the inside of the top cutaway. The only real complaint is the neck has a dead spot at the twentith fret.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This has been the most dependable guitar I've owned. This was my main stage guitar for years. Now it's too precious to take out anymore.

Customer Support : No Opinion
The company from what I know doesn't exist anymore, which is a shame, cause I'd love to get another Deluxe from them.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for almost twenty-one years, since the day I bought this Deluxe. Others guitars I've bought over the years, were backup to my Deluxe. My Robin strat, made of ash, had the closest sound as far as brightness. My Gibson Explorer is what I've been using lately as backup, but nothing else comes close to feel and playability, execept maybe a Paul Reed Smith.

Early 1980's Sunburst finish, cost $350, 22 frets, double cutaway, 1 Dimarzio Super Distortion, 1 Dimarzio X2N, replaced plastic nut with bone nut. Made by the Matsuamoko Guitar Factory in Japan.

Sound : 9
Sound and sustain comparable to similiar solid bodies such as Les Pauls. Great for Rock, metal, blues, I would never subject it to country music though!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action was slightly high out of the box, but I had it tuned professionally so it is much better now. The quality was good overall for a guitar of it's price. Excellent finish and great looking guitar. Did have a noisy plug-in. Hardware has started to show signs of age. Compared with my BC Rich Warlock which is a piece of garbage. I really need to have it pro-worked on again, it's been over 5 years since the last tune up.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Overall very reliable I bought it 22 years ago!

Customer Support : 1
The company is no more!

Overall Rating : 8
I have been playing over 20 years. I chose this guitar because I was 13 years old and couldn't afford anything else I thought was cool looking with my paper route money! Own a Ampeg amp, a BC RICH Warlock (sucks), an Epiphone Acoustic (good), old Korg effect board, Cry baby wah, Danelectro distortion pedal. I'd recommend Westbury guitars for used buyers. Overall I'd give it an 8.5 actually.
