i have had this guitar for about 7/8 years it was my first electric guitar and i still play it live today. it has 3 single coil pickups. 2 tone and one volume knob, a five way pickup selector. its just a bog standard guitar really, but good none the less

Sound : 7
its a very versatile guitar. i use it with a line 6 amp and it sounds good. i use it mainly for rythmn playing but its very capable of lead aswell.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
i bought it from a friend of my brothers with an old zoom pedal, arena amp and some other stuff. so all i had to do was plug in and play really.

Reliability/Durability : 4
ive used it at a few gigs but would never use this without a backup because ive had it a long time and i dont think it could withstand a whole show. however it has lasted a long time and it still plays

Customer Support : No Opinion
again, bought from a friend

Overall Rating : 6
my first electric guitar and still use it live today, overall a good guitar, not exactly a gibson or fender or whatever, but a good guitar

Lovely gloss black with a black scratch plate. I'd seen one in a shop in Glasgow, Scotland (near England) with a black neck. It was sold and I couldn't find another so settled for one with the maple neck that I found in Birmingham. If I'd found a black necked one I don't think I'd ever have played it - just sat there looking at it all day and night.
I have to admit that I wanted it initially because aesthetically, it was exactly what I wanted but it turned out to be a superb bit of kit. Good variation on the pick-up style and just a lovely shape.

Sound : 10
Sound is a major point for me on this - my band in Manchester were likened to all sorts by Terry Christian in the 90s, from Jonathon Richman & the Modern Lovers to The Man From Del Monte (what d'you mean, "who?"). Mostly because we were a bit quirky and with no distinctive style - not initially anyway. The point is (sorry) that his bass could give me pretty much whatever sound I wanted, from a Beatie-esque 'Sabotage' deep hammer to a twangy, Daisy Chainsaw grunt.
In fact I used a Trace Elliot combi stage amp and when I bought a Rick 4003, I often had to switch back to the Westone to get the sound I wanted - wierd.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Fret board and neck were easy to get along with - I tried a fretless version after I'd bought mine and I liked that a lot - the fretless may have got a 10 here. Nice & slim, it needed no further det-up from when I bought it. There was no problems with the quality anywhere.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I played live with this thing for the best part of 10 years and it's still in great nick - either it's a top bit of kit or I'm just a crap live show!. I played for 4 years without a back-up and never a problem - it still has all the original buttons, knobs etc.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed any, no idea.

Overall Rating : 10
I have a new, even more expensive hobby now so I have to sell one of my guitars. Although I'm selling the Rick for funding, I can honestly say that I would miss the Westone more - I can't speak highly enough of it. The best ??150 I ever spent.

Made in Japan, 1983

Strat type, S/S/S, 5 way selector, volume, tone, tone

Maple neck

Brass fixed bridge, brass nut, strings through body.

Cream body with white scratch plate. Don't know what wood.

Hard ware all own brand.

Sound : 8
This guitar has a nice full , clean sound. There is a lot of variety between the pickups.

Using with Marshall MG15DX amp (which I will review another day) and a Pandora PX4. Most of the time I just go for a good clean tone with minimal effects.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Well, it's 22 years old so the finish is wearing on the bridge, the body is chipped, the varnish is starting to wear on the neck, the plastic is starting to yellow. But despite this it functions well. The electrics are quiet and crackle free. The action is a bit high but then I ought to take it for a set up job.

Reliability/Durability : 7
This guitar was obivously well made since it is still going strong. The hardware seems to have pleanty of life left in it. The finish is good but obviously it has worn.

I only play at home but I think that gigging would be no problem.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Company gone out of business long ago.

Overall Rating : 10
Playing 2 years. Also own Ibanez AM50, Fender Lite Ash Tele.

I have rated it 10 because on a price/ performance ratio I think that it is outstanding. For 100 quid I have an instrument that is a joy to play, good tone, no hastle.

If it was lost or stolen, I'd buy another if I could find one. In fact I'm looking for another to keep it company.

I bought minr in a pawn shop in Woolwich in 2002 for #125. It s red with a single piece maple neck. A previous owner had worn a studded wristband and its badly scratched where his forearm rested on the body. It was originally sold by a Leeds music shop (now gone) in the early 80s I suppose. The tremelo arm is missing but who needs it? Its very robust and sounds ok for the sort of post-punk stuff I play and for a cheap guitar has a nice action. Its very very good if, like me, you have small hands, as the neck is very slim. I also like that the controls are tucked away so I don't accidentally hit them when I get a bit frenzid!

I bought this guitar from White's Music in Attleboro, Ma back when I was in high school, my first guitar. I believe it was made between 1982-1984 (puchased in '84, but it had been in the store a while). 21 frets, sort of a strat copy, but a unique spin on the body style. Bolt on neck (maple), not sure what the body is made of. Black gloss finish with a white pickguard. 3 passive single coil pickups, strat style with one volume, two tones, 5 way selector switch. Original bridge was fixed brass, string through body. Tuners are Westone, pretty good too. The maple neck is pretty nice, thin with great frets, and the guitar plays very well, you would never know it was a sub-$200 guitar. I still have this guitar, it never gives me any problems.

I changed a few things on this guitar. Pickups weren't that great, lots of feedback at high volumes and didn't sound very good. After I played a real strat, I knew the pickups needed to go. I put Carvin single coils in the neck and middle (they sound great-like hotter stock strats), and a Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge. Also wanted a tremelo system...didn't want to cut up the guitar...in the '80s there was a cam-based locking tremolo that Washburn sold called the "wonderbar". Pretty cool, came with a locking nut. This was an awesome system, stays in tune perfectly, and required no routing at all, just bolts on. The only drawback was a limited range, not like the Floyd Rose.

features: original setup=6, pretty basic. With mods=8

Sound : 8
The original pickups were not very good. They sounded too thin, and at high volumes they would squeal. Dealt with it for a while, though I did rewire the guitar with shielded cable and also insulated the inside with foil tape to try to reduce the squeal...moderately effective.

Got tired of the poor sound and squeal and put in Carvin single coil pickups in the bridge/middle, and a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge. No more squeal, and the guitar now sounded awesome!

Lately I play mostly electric blues, but also really like classic rock/metal. The guitar can do almost anything in the current configuration. Through a Marshall tube amp, the Hot Rails pickup makes this thing scream. Can't get a good clean sound from the Hot Rails though, it's output is too high. The Marshall is too much for the single coil pickups if you want a nice clean sound...they sound better through a more mellow amp. Overall, this guitar sounds great. I am planning to replace the Hot Rails with another Carvin single coil though, maybe an AP 11 (I think the other ones are SH 60's, or whatever the equivalent was in the late '80s)...I can use a different guitar for the rock/metal sound, would rather make this into more of a straight up blues guitar.

Sound-original: 5 With mods: 8

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Set up was great right off the shelf. Action is real low, no string buzz at all. I learned to play on this guitar, and I don't think I could have made a better choice.

Though I did change to the Washburn tremelo bridge, I wanted to duplicate the original action and feel, that's how good it was. Luckily, I was able to get it right.

I can't honestly think of any faults this guitar has in this category. I've played better, but not much better.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is bulletproof. It's over 20 years old and has been to a lot of places with me. It never lets me down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A. I don't think this company is even in business anymore. Never tried to contact them in the past though, never had to.

Overall Rating : 8
Overall, this is a great guitar, especially when you consider the expense (or lack thereof). If you are a beginner/intermediate player, or even an experienced player and want a back up, if you see one used you might want to consider it. In the original configuration I didn't like the sound much, but the Carvin pickups were cheap and direct replacements, they really fixed it up nicely. The other stuff I did was not really necessary, it was just my preference. Best thing about it is the incredible craftsmanship for such an inexpensive guitar. Also has a nice look/shape. If it were lost or stolen I'd be pretty upset, it's unique and probably could not be replaced. I considered selling this a long time ago, I would never sell it now. My next guitar will probably be a Carvin California Carved Top, or an Ibanez Artist (maybe both?), but I won't even consider parting with this one.

I was made sometime between 83-86 in Japan. It has a volume and a tone knob, both brass. It also has a brass nut. It has a solid maple neck and fretboard. It came with a hardshell case. This guitar has a very unique look to it and I really like the way that the body bows out on both sides at the bottom like a J-bass.

Sound : 9
The sound is robust and pokey. I play it on my Fender Bassman 60W with a Zoom BFX-708 effects pedal and can get some killer sounds out of it. With the right settings I can play anything from metal to blues.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The original owner of this bass obviously loved it very much. When I first got it there was body polish in some small nooks and corners. Like I said before, it's all brass cosmetics with a white pickguard and an awesome candy apple red finish. There is some light belt buckle scarring on the back, but that is IT. This thing is in mint condition.

Reliability/Durability : 9
The bass is kinda heavy. The strap buttons are well rooted in the body. I've never had any problems with it in the two years I've had it. Everything is smooth and solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I got it off a friend as an even trade for my first bass, which was a black Slammer (by Hamer) for which I paid I think $140.00 US. He was really pushing it on me, and I actually declined at first, but then I told him I would try it out for a few days and let him know. I figured there was something wrong with it since he seemed so anxious to get rid of it. I was hesitant because I'd never heard of Westone. I opened it up while I had it and the hardware in itself was a few steps up from the Slammer. So I decided to go for it, and now I'm sooooooo glad I did. I love this bass, and will probably never get rid of it.

Strat copy. Standard one volume, two tone pots, 5 way selector. 21 frets.

Fitted my own humbucking pick up at the bridge to add versitility.

Sound : 8
Tremendous sound. Only really coming into it's own as I improve as a player.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Jack plug is too noisy and strap buttons too loose, but I hav had it ten years alone so it's too be expected! A little outlay will soon sort this!

Reliability/Durability : 10
This thing would survive almost anything you choose to do to it.

Now a defunt company. Westone were a jap company and guitars were made in the same establishment as Aria guitars so I believe.

Overall Rating : 9
Looking to do it up a little, may treat it to a new scratch plate...and definatley new jack plug and strap buttons.

As with the other reviews, I never heard of this before. Stirng-thru body, 2 single coils, bolt on neck, decent stock tuners. I mostly play epiphone, but I use this when I need a stratty sound.

Sound : 8
It sounds like a single coil guitar. It's about as versatile as a strat, maybe a couple more sounds. The pickups aren't at all microphonic.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
the blinde finish wasn't exactly that of a custom made guitar, and the action's a little high, but I think it just needs a truss rod adjustment. This guitar has had the best frets of any budget guitar I've owned.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This is one of the most durable guitars I've played. I'm no professional, and I've taken it apart and tried to paint and unpaint it several times, and I would definitely play a gig without a backup, although I wouldnt' play a whole gig without a LP or an archtop, because there's a place for single coil sound, but it can be overdone. The strap buttons were not solid, but it cost me $4 to replace them.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never even heard of the company

Overall Rating : 9
I've only played this through my Crate CR-19, and it sounds better than a American Strat through one of those nice 50W Fender amps that you can make like 75 distortion settings without a pedal at all. I would love it if I could pop a whammy bar in here, so I might have to buy some kind of compensating effects. If you see one of these in a pawn shop or used, buy it, it's the one of the best cheap guitars I've owned.

I have no idea where the thing was made, or who the company is. I got it at a local used guitar store. It has 21 frets, rosewood fret board. It has 3 pickups, like a Fender Strat, 1 volume and 2 tone. Body is black, and so is the pick gaurd. It came with a case.

Sound : 10
To me it sound great. Well probably because I mostly use humbuckers, but for the price that i got it for, it sounds great. I like the shape of the body of the guitar, like a srtat with the horns cut short. But playing the guitar out of a Fender Perfomer 1000 amp with a Boss dual overdrive, Danelectro chours, dunlop Wah-Wah, and a ibanez Flanger, it sounds KILLER..............

Reliability/Durability : 7
I'm still not sure if it will stand a beating, because I just got the thing. The guitar is heavy, just like my ibanez RX-20. The finish was in good condition, exept for some tiny scratches form picks. I am thinking of using the guitar for recording, but i'm still playing with it.

If anybody knows, let me know..............pls

This guitar is a mystery to me. I've never heard of the company or anyone who has ever owned a westone before, but I like this guitar a lot because it was my first. It's your normal stratty 3 single-coil p/u, 5-way switch, one volume, two tone setup. The body kind of looks like a J-Bass gone bad. I've never seen a guitar shaped like this. It's very heavy.

Sound : 5
The tone is not that bad for your normal pawn-shop animal. There is really no high-end and it sounds kind of like it's being played through your butt. Through all of the 5 pickup settings, there is a HUGE difference in the five tones. The butt sound comes with the neck pickup, but if you use the setting where it's either neck/middle or middle/bridge, the tone is managable.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
The guitar is an ugly cream color that is rather repulsive. Other than that, the screw that holds the strap at the tail has come out and the plug jack has at times receded into the depths of the guitar. Those were quickly repaired with gaffing tape.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This guitar is so freaking reliable it's disgusting. It's taken a whole lot of abuse and it still holds up. Except for the crappy jack and strap buttons, the pickups have always worked and there is no noise when changing volume.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Who, where and when is Westone? The guitar has a serial number and I'd love to get more information on it. Please, someone let me know.

Overall Rating : 7
Like I said, I got this as my first guitar as a gift one Christmas from my mom. I had little or no input about buying it, so I couldn't compare it to anything. I'm planning on routing slots for two J-Bass pickups and creating the ultimate monster guitar with it. Sounds kind of disgusting don't it?
Overall, sturdy ok sounding guitar.
