This guitar is a thinline electroacoustic from Yamaha. 22 frets and chrome hardware, this is a beast of a guitar. The EQ is fantastic with a swept mid band and a low and high. The is also a volume control and a handy little mute switch. The filters are all active hence the need for a PP9 battery which is enclosed in a very neat little box near the top. The colouring of this guitar is what lead me to it in the first place, the back and sides are NATO black and the top is a translucent blue burst which looks gorgeous. I played the APX4A Natural ones and the spotted this beauty before being told that it was an SPL and was #70 dearer, but then the guy in the shop kindly let me have it for the same price as the APX4A. I also got a gig bag included with mine, not bad.

I play a variety of styles and record them as well and I found the SPL to be fantastic in any style I chose. When plugged in and adorned with a smidgen of reverb this baby is purring like a kitten.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I don;t know too muc habout this but I found the SPL a dream to play, the strings seemed to be more bouncy than my Aria AW-50 and this was a big advantage. It seemed to be set up perfectly.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I'm hoping my SPL will last fro a long time, I love it to bits already and have only had it for 3 days, maybe I should comment on this catagory yet.

I got a years warrenty with this guitar. I havn't had to contact the company yet so I can't comment on that.

Overall Rating : 10
This guitar is fantasic but then I wouldn't expect anything less. For my first Electro acoustic I've come to the conclusion I think I'll buy some more :)

Very cool setup. Mini equalizer, volume knob, AMF knob and mute button. The mute button is very useful when playing through an amp or PA system it takes away the worry of making really distracting or annying sounds when i'm moving around before a song in church or anywhere else, there's no bang or crack when its pressed either which i thought was nice. The battery is very securely stored and easy to get to. The tuners are something i really like on this guitar they are nice and chunky and don't feel as if they're are going to break when you turn them, as i though some of my friends guitars. Didn't give it a 10 'cause the AMF knob seems to do absolutely nothing.

Sound : 9
When i play it unplugged i think it sounds great and i have heard no acoustic sound better, for a small body acoustic it produces a really loud, warm sound which i really like. I manged to do a song with 150 people singing, unplugged....as i forgot to press the mute button...but it was easily loud enough. The only problem for me is when it is plugged it, it easily feedbacks and when it does it does so impressively. It does produce a very bright sound and the equalizer on the guitar is very good and a lot of different sounds can be acheived. The problem is that i don't think that it really sounds like an acoustic plugged in, more like an electric trying to be an acoustic. I prefer to actually mic it but thats just me. I'd give it an 8 because of this but it sounds so brilliant unplugged that i gave it a 9

This is where this guitar is very cool. I picked up my freinds APX-4A and within 5 minutes i knew i had to get this guitar. It's unbelievably nice to play i really enjoy playing anything on this guitar just for an excuse to play it. The action is great and the neck is really nicely shaped, the cutaway design means good upper fret access although i think maybe the action at the upper frets is a little high. I play with extra light gauge martin strings and they just make it even nicer to play. The finish is really impressive i have to tabaco sunburst top and it looks reallly really nice, no other way to describge it, its just a really classy finish. There wasn't anything wrong with it when i bought it.

Reliability/Durability : 8
So far it's doing great, it does dent quite easily but i'm not really bothered about that i'm quite rough when i moving it around and picking it up. I would definitely gig without a backup. I don't see any part of the guitar breaking or wearing except maybe the battery comnpartment, i think the catch could eventually snap or some part of the compartment go wrong. Apart from that there wer no flaws when i bought it.

Nope never dealt with them

This guitar is wonderful, i play it whenever i can. It looks sounds and feels great, i know many people who have got aan APX-4A/SPL and they all think the same. If i lost it had it stolen i'd run to the nearest shop and buy another. The size of this guitar is really cool it's really slim and small, everytime i play another acoustic it feels really awkward. What'd be great would be an XLR output as well as a jack one, but oh well there's always one thing.

Made in 2000 in Taiwan. I've been there a number of times and the craftsmen are very serious about quality in Taiwan .This is a very nice guitar . I own 6 vintage acoustics including fender , gibson and ovations and I rank this up there with the best of them even if it is not as booming as my Humingbird or as fast to play as some of my others . It is set up to play on stage and I have not had any feed back problems . It could come with a better case. The tuning keys are solid and the neck is in tune and plays well .

Sound : 9
The sound is a little tickey since most guitar players use some type of effects processor on stage . I am still experimenting with my Korg and I am setting up four patches that seem to work very well with it.

like with most guitars you will have to play it awhile to find where the sounds are . Try strumming and picking at different spots to find the sweet spots.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Great, no flaws . excellent craftsmenship

Reliability/Durability : 10
I use it on satge without a backup and feel confident it will last.

I've been playing over 30 years and I have many guitars ,all top of the line . I would buy this guitar again . It is a very attractive and responsive instrument . I used it on a show two days after I bought it and it was like slipping on a pair of old shoes.

This is a thin-bodied acoustic/electric with a flamed Sycamore top with a marine blue burst finish. Nato back, sides and neck. Fretboard is Indian Rosewood. 22 Frets, Chrome hardware, 3 band EQ with mid-range frequency (AMF) knob, volume knob, battery light, and a mute button. Body depth: 2-15/16-3-3/8". String scale 25-1/16" External battery compartment (nice).

Sound : 9
This guitar doesn't have a very good "acoustic" sound. It lacks that metallic punch on the bottom end that an acoustic has. It does have a very nice mellow, well balanced sound to it. I'm playing it through a Peavey TNT115BW bass amp. When I dial in the EQ I like I can get a very usable "acoustic" sound. With the EQ and AMF on the guitar, you can change your tone from bright to mellow/jazzy and everything in between without having to touch your amp. I do a little finger picking (this guitar picks up on the subtle differences in attack), but mostly rhythm. I boost the bottom end quite a bit on my amp and the guitar to get a nice percussive thump while I'm playing rhythm (I'll hit the saddle with my palm while I'm strumming to emphasize the down beat. I'm currently playing without a drummer). Has good output plugged in. Louder than the Ibanez's I've played.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
Mine came setup with very nice action. Not too low though. Neck has a nice roundness that fits my palm good when I'm playing chords. No buzzes. Very nice looking guitar. The soundhole doesn't have a pickguard. There is some decoration around the sound hole, but I believe it's plastic. When you're up close and playing it, you can tell (-). If you're used to an electric, you'll like this guitar. Small, thin-bodied.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've only had it for 4 days, but it seems very solid. Nice hardware. Tuning pegs are very smooth. The strap buttons were very solid, but the first I did when I got it home was replace them with straplock buttons. I would definitely use it without a backup.

This is the second yamaha I've owned and I didn't have to deal with customer service. Let's hope this one isn't any different.

Overall Rating : 9
This is a very nice acoustic electric if you spend the majority of your time plugged in. When I bought this guitar I was looking for a good sound plugged in. I didn't care a whole lot about the acoustic sound. However, that's not to say that this guitar doesn't sound good unplugged. It does lack in volume (thin body remember) and bottom end, but it has a very nice balanced tone to it. The electronics on it are very good (no noticeable noise or hum). The mute button was a nice feature. Very nice looking guitar, versatile, and relatively cheap.
