Spruce top, rosewood neck and bridge, sides and back are listed as Nato. The tuners feel a little cheap but seem to work well. This is my first classical guitar and I am very satisfied with it. I have to give it a 7 just because of the cheaper mahogony that is used for the sides and back.

Sound : 10
It has a very good tone. It sounded better than some of the more expensive classical guitars that were hanging on the wall around it. I had to replace the strings and that made the tone even better.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
This guitar is easy to play. I bought my guitar used but it was almost flawless and looks very good. It has good action and a wide fretboard. Since it was cheap and easy to play I can let my kids learn on it instead of my PRS, ESP or the Yamaha acoustic that my grandfather gave me years ago.

Reliability/Durability : 8
I have not had it very long, but it seems durable. Time will tell with my kids playing too.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never used them so I have no opinion of them.

Overall Rating : 9
This is a cheap guitar but has great tone and is easy to play. The price was excellent for this guitar. My ESP, Jackson and PRS all cost over 10x's what this one did. I would definately buy a new if I could find the same deal.

Made in Taiwan in 2006. This is Yamaha's entry level solid-top.

Solid spruce top with a natural mat finish. Nato (cheap variety of mahogany) back and sides and neck. Rosewood fretboard and bridge.

It has all the features of a classical 4/4 size guitar. I give an 8/10, because in my opinion a 10/10 should have solid back/sides as well and preferably an ebony fretboard/bridge.

Sound : 9
I think if sounds great. I play mostly bossa nova and some jazz on it and it sounds great. Mellow enough, but with enough bright snap in the bass. It can get surprisingly loud for a classical box too!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Didn't find anything wrong with it. And I'm not surprised... I have other guitars made in Yamaha's Kaohsiung, Taiwan factory and they were all perfect out of the box too. They have great quality control there.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I'm sure it will hold up just fine.

Customer Support : No Opinion
No opinion, although the shop where I bought it are official Yamaha dealers and they're pretty great.

Overall Rating : 9
I think it's really good value. The solid top will "open up" over the years, so I'm sure it will sound even better over time.

For a solid-top classical at this price and knowing it was made in a place I trust when it comes to quality... nobody can complain.

Kudos Yamaha.

I don't know the year, but this is is made in Taiwan. I was a little skeptical at first, because I had never heard of Taiwan being a good guitar manufacturing country. It has 19 frets. It has a great laminated finish, which has never worn off for me, even after 3+ years of playing. It's soo slick, I use windex to polish it, and it works great! I can even see my reflection in it! I have no idea what the body is made of, but its very thin, and very strong, as it can survive the clumsy drops with it I make. The neck is of solid rosewood, a very nice finish, which can help produce the tone and speed of great spanish music. It has a classical body shape, but is soo comfortable with its smooth finish! It has plastic tuners, but these are held in place very well by brass screws. Tuning is a cinch, and it'll only go out of tune if you leave it on purpose. The bridge is absolutely amazing, it never slips or loses its nots ( I cannot spell). It has fret marker "dots" on the fifth and seventh frets. It also has a classical mexican rosette, and looks better than any other mexi classical out there :)

Sound : 10
I was quite frankly amazed with the tonal variation. I use D'addario strings (the best btw!), and even though there isnt pickups, I can create bright spanish sounds playing over the soundhole, and even deep acoustic tones by picking near the bridge. This is the perfect practice guitar, as you can play rock, metal, blues (great), and such with much ease. It has a rich, variety of sounds, with great bass string action and bright and tinny sounds on the first string. The only problems I had is that sometimes the top E and G strings sometimes sound flat, I have no idea how to fix it, other than tuning it slightly higher, this is no big, and usally depends on your string gagues. Teh original strings are ok, but I would highly sugget that you replace them with D'addarios, because they are da bomb, my local store currently has only medium gague strings, and this may be the reason for them, and I prefer lighter gagues. This guitar also has a slim, elliptical neck, which is probably the best i have ever played with on a classical/acoustic guitar.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar was set up very well at the factory, however, there is no visible screw to adjust the neck, as I am beggining to see slight curbiture, but don't worry, this guitar lasts a VERY long time, and your local guitar/music shop should be able to help you out with this. This guitar was as tight as a tank when I bought it a few years ago, and still is today. I just wish that there was strap buttons to play easily standing up, but I dont want to put any in on the chance of cracking the nice laminate finish. This is the best clasical you can buy out there. I fist bought it a few years ago, because in middle school, I was in Music Lab, where we played classical guitar most of the time, and all the school had were CG-101s. I was really happy to be playing great with this guitar, so I bought it for the next year, when I had my guitar class. My friends usually use acoustics, but they usually werent very good, and had unmatching tones. A couple of my friends had CG-40s and CG-111Ss, but those did not play as well either, and were so horrible compared to their brother model.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have played this guitar a few times live, and it stands out great. The thing is though, it is only a classical, and you will need a mic, or external pickup for your guitar to be heard. This is NOT an issue, and not a problem with this guitar. I depend on this guitar alot, The finish is suberb, but battering against objects (especially with the head) will damage it, but its like any other guitar, damage will hurt it, so lose your fears, and get this great classical guitar. The finish will probably last forever, and I intend on using it for many, many more years. When I bought this guitar, to use in my guitar class at school, I played many rock, metal and blues licks to make me better so I will be good with my first electric, and guess what!, It helped out so much. I can play my friends' crappy tele's and strat copies and make them rock! ( I hate fender btw, steinberger, kramer, and Ibanez are all way better brands!). If you're young and want to learn how to play guitar, and well, this is a must!

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A, I bought this straight from a guitar dealer, and never had to deal with them, or go to them for adjustments. My compliments to Yamaha too, because even though they make lousy electrics, their CG-101 is da bomb!

Overall Rating : 10
If this guitar was stolen or lost, I would buy another one fo sho! I cant say anything about other gear, since this was my first guitar, and dosent need an amp, etc.

Made in either 2001 or 2002 in Asia (I Believe). With 19 frets and the following:

Top is Spruce; supposedly solid and not laminate.
Back/Sides/Neck look like Mohogany (although factory says Nato) Fretboard is Rosewood
Bridge is Rosewood
Hardware is plastic tuners with tarnished chrome
This model replaces the CG100A.

Finish is a nice poly-type...not too shiny or thick.

Neck is a bit slimmer than an average classical guitar, which I the main reason why I bought this model.

Sound : 8
I bought this used, and it needed a string change right out of the box; the original strings were past their prime and had a annoying ring on the 1-2-3 strings. All strings were now replaced with GHS Classical Bronze strings, because I wanted a more mellow & traditional sound. (I may go with D'Adarrio in the future because of their great quality & sound)

I did this change because Yamaha classical guitars are apparently known for brightness and volume with standard silver-coated strings. The very first thing I noticed about this guitar (both with old strings and new) was the great VOLUME this thing can put out.....heck, it is louder than my Fender dreadnought! There was also quite a bit of bass on the 4-5-6 strings before the string change. I was able to get alot of mid/treble from the 1-2-3 strings also, but I had to pick & strum on those a little harder to match the bass strings.

And the other thing about this guitar was: Sustain. This thing can hold a sustain, by one string or all, like no other guitar I've heard. Be prepared for that.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
After the string change, the action seemed to raise up a little. It is approximately 5/16" at the 12th fret. This seems a little high for me, but then again I'm used to electric and my dreadnought. It's workable, but may be too high for some folks...try it out, you may want to shave the lower half of the saddle.

As I mentioned above, the finish is real clean. However, I am meticulous, so I noticed the joint-seams and would say they are not quite as refined as some other brands (my Ibanez Acoustic/Electric had a better finish & cleaner seams than this does). But that does not affect playability. They'll do.

Tuners hold their own, but feel real cheap when changing strings. Wood grain and quality are excellent; kudos to Yamaha. Frets and hardware along the fretboard are nice.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This one I bought was used by a former student who carried this thing around in a nylon bag. There are a few dings on the head, but nothing major. The body feels and looks very strong. No strap buttons on this model. Definitely useable for gigs and traveling....the volume it produces will be heard quite well.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them, although other reviewers say good things about the correspondance from Yamaha.

Overall Rating : 9
I'm still learing after playing for 6 years. This was my first *real* classical size guitar, after purchasing a beat up 3/4 size cheapie classical that I use for camping. I like its sound so much, that I decided to buy this one.

I also own a Gretsch 3150 and Fender DG-7. If this Yamaha were lost or stolen, I would consider buying it again; although I would also probably look at other used brands like Alvarez, Guild, Fender, or Ibanez in the same price range (I previously had a chance to buy a Guild Maderia & missed it...ugggh!!)

Definitely play this guitar if you can before buying it. You'll be suprised at what it offers, both for sound and value.

Its a simple not too good looking classical guitar. Solid spruce top. Its got 19 medium-large frets (rosewood fretboard) which are comfortable as hell to play on (except sometimes barre chords can hurt your left thumb because of the size of the nato neck. The tuning system is simple, and is hard to tune sometimes, but the guitar really stays in tune so you don't need to tune it often. It didn't come with any accessories.

Sound : 10
I first bought this a beginner and i came a long way with this. I think this has the best sound for a classical guitar in its price range and even hire. Its got a unique crispy sound thats great to play anything. I can even play nirvana or anytype of grunge on it (even though im mainly into classic rock). Arpeggios sound great on this and you can have a great jam-session with it.
Great price value!!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
The guitar came in perfect condition except maybe the strings and of course the tuning. No flaws. Great price value

Reliability/Durability : 9
Ive been playing this for five years now and its in perfect condition. the hardware is great and tough. If you were to play this live than you probably should put in a pickup, because the guitar doesn't really get that loud. But in general its very dependable.

Been playing for 5 1/2 years and i own a Fender American Double Fat Strat and a Les Paul Classic (used) and this is the only accoustic i need. great versatility. If all my guitars were stolen the first guitar id get is this one.
