Got from Musicians friend. Sounded good but had buzz on 5th string if not played right next to fret. Sent back at no charge and got another. HAd the same proble. Took it to a Luthier. He did miracles on my othe two guitars but said he could not set up the guitar. Sent the second one back to Musicians' friend. they are troopers and did not fuss or complain at all.

The action was low but this did not matter as I could not get over the buzz on the5th string. The wood used was to put it politely "ugly". Eveidently there are lots of different kinds of NATO but the one on this guitar had no pattern on the neck or on the sides and looking at it was worse than kissing your sister.

I gave up on this yamaha even though I have a yamaha cg171CCA which is awesome. I am looking for a travel guitar that would not kill me when I lose it. Looks like the Cordoba C5 may be the ticket. It costs more but is slap beautifu. Will see if the reviews on HArmony central are right about the bridge plat falling off. Willing to try. The cordoba C5 has better lows and crystal clear highs. The cordoba was made in china and has fit equal to the yamaha. I have taken it to a Luthier to see if he can get it set up with out buzzes. I guess the truth be known it will cost me $360 by the time I am finished and I will hate like hell when I lose it someplace.

This is a solid top cedar full size classical model that I bought new in April 2005. Back, sides and neck are nato with rosewood bridge and fret board. Chrome tuners. Has nice urthane finish. 12 reachable frets. Bought a good hard shell case that was discounted due to slight damage.

I already have a solid spruce classical and I wanted an inexpensive solid cedar model so that I could enjoy the different tone of the sound boards. This guitar sounds as advertized, more mellow with a deeper bass end than my spruce (Yamaha CG150S). Very pleasant sound.

All woods are nicely matched and I was surprised at how nice the nato wood looks since it is used mostely on low end guitars. Finish looks very nice with no obvious imperfections. I thought the factory set action was a tad high so I brought it back to the music shop to have the action lowered. Must admit I wasn't expecting such an improvement. They were able to lower it significantly with ZERO buzz on the strings.

Guitar seems very solidly built to me and if its anything like the CG150S, it should last a long time.

Haven't ever dealt with Yamaha directly but the Music and Arts Center where I bought mine has been very helpfull.

I think this guitar has excellent value for the money. Yamaha's factory in Taiwan seems to really have their quality assurance down pat. One thing about factory made guitars, besides the price, is that since machines do much of the cutting and wood tolerance work, the guitar parameters can be quite close over many instuments produced. This makes it more likely that quality can be consistent over many guitars of the same model...a good thing. I recommend this guitar to anyone on a low budget that wants a good sounding and quality classical guitar.
