Overall, its a nice guitar for its price. It comes with everything essential to play guitar for yourself and a small crowd. The amp is not too great, but its there for those who have no alternative.
The neck flows nicely, and guitar can be played fast. It comes with multiple sound settings, and yes the guitar does have somewhat a twangy sound. if you have a good amplifier, and a set of preferable strings, you can solve this twanginess. The whammy bar only does downbends, so be sure to know that before looking for a cheap shredding guitar.
Anyone can complain about the tuning going bad every couple days, but really, if the tuner which comes with the guitar is in reach, its a matter of 1 to 2 minutes. not a big deal. This guitar sounds good for the finger picking pieces, but isnt all too great for the heavier Metallica or System of a Down pieces.
Those that complain that the guitar doesnt comply with their level of play should have spent a little more than 200-400 bucks for a guitar with all these extras. A professional that depends on his guitar for gigs wouldnt buy a 300 dollar guitar, but for a mediocre guitar player, this is a nice shining new guitar to further advance with skills and techniques. Buy this before spending 1000 bucks on a nice guitar you cant play.

Strat bodied beginner guitar H/S/S pickups. basswood body. Maple neck and rosewood fretboard, 22 frets. Strat tremolo bridge. A slightly cruder body than a real strat.
Sound
:9
Unplugged it sounds OK. but it's electric so screw it. running through the supplied GA-10 amp its great. The bridge is a little bright but the two single coils sound really good. sounds like you payed more than you did for it.
Action, Fit, & Finish

This thing is what it is for a beginner guitar. The setup out of the box is pretty good, i modded it a little for my style. i also blocked the tremolo because i just have no use for it. The tuners are a little stiff but that is what i was looking for. I'm left handed so it's restrung and even then barely loses tune. the neck is really comfortable and the general whole guitar is really great for long amounts of playing.
Reliability/Durability

This thing will definately sustain live playing. right now it's my only guitar so i can't afford to have any problems. so far i haven't, save for a string breaking at the very end of a set. I would suggest getting strap-loks though as the originals aren't all that hot. as long as there is weight on them they'll hold. The finish is strong thick and glossy. I would take my guitar anywhere in a split second. i take it back and forth to school everyday in a thin gigbag and it has ONE dent.

Very well made guitar. At this price point you get decent hardware and decent pickups. The best thing is the neck very comfortable with perfect fretwork! (unlike a couple of $1200. guitars I have that came raw). The neck shape is a smooth comfortable medium Strat shape. Very fast player.
It has all the hardware necessary for a strat style guitar and you get a tone pot for the bridge pickup. Somethin Fender should finally lean after 50 some years of hardheaded stupidity.
Sound

You make the music with your playing style. With a decent amp for your style of music, this guitar will sound as good as you can make it sound.
I'm not a fan of bridge humbuckers on any strat style guitar. this is no exception. But it sounds decent enough.
I like the individual intonatable bridge as found on this type of guitar. You can set it up with any string guage and neck relief parameter and dial it in precisely.

Perfect neck. Absolutely no flaws. The Yamaha people have their factory routines down pat.
Set the action and intonation as you wish and you are good to go.
No one can expect a perfect fet up at this price point. Hell, you can't get a good set up on a $1500.00 guitar either.
Fit and finish are excellent.

It's an ok guitar. Screw theese people that are saying its crappy and not worth it because for a case, gig bag, strap, cable, tools, humidifier, amp, AND the gitar for that low of a price: can you really expect a top of the line guitar? no, you cant, but its pretty good for its standards.

Strat-style double cutaway body, passive pickups (humbucker in the bridge position, single-coils at the neck and middle). The variety of pickups gives a huge variety of sounds to play with.
The neck is great-- narrow, smooth and just nice. The frets are even and precise. A really amazing neck for a guitar this cheap.
My only small complaint is with the tuning heads. They're kind of stiff and jerky-- definitely don't give smooth, high-precision tuning. This guitar *will* stay in tune, though.
Sound
:8
The single-coil pickups sound pretty nice-- not too bright, but smooth and warm. The humbucker is kind of tinny-sounding, though. The middle pickup/neck pickup selection produces a really sweet sound.
The amp that's included sounds kind of nice on the Clean setting. The Distortion setting will produce a kind of shallow extreme shred sound. There's no Gain setting knob, just a toggle for Clean or Distortion, so you have no choices but Clean or out-of-control dirty.
NOTE: I found that this guitar sounds better with a long, long cable to the amp. At first I was using a 15' cable and got a nice, mellow, blues-rock sound from the single-coils. I recently switched to a 5-footer, hoping to get some more brightness by reducing the signal loss in the cable to the amp. With the short cable the single-coils have kind of a cold, metallic, cheap-pickup sound coming through on the side. I guess the long cable filters out some of that detail, which is a good thing. I'm going back to the long cable.

The finish is nice-- smooth and glossy (mine's opaque black with a black pickguard). The paints a little fragile, though, and chips pretty easily.
I haven't had to do anything to the action. It was nice to start and has

I bought this guitar used, so I blame most problems more on the previous owner than on Yamaha. I can tell the former owner gave this guitar some pretty rough treatment. That said:
-The pickup selector switch is noisy and is actually starting to fail after maybe three years of use.
-The Tone adjust knob "floats" (it's loose in the hole and kind of resists and springs back when you turn it).
These problems are partly from hard use of the guitar and partly from the basic cheapness of the hardware itself. Still, for this price, the hardware overall is much better than expected.

I've been playing acoustics for some time, but this is my first electric. I've had it for a year, loved it from the beginning, and still love it. It will play as well as I can, and better. I've compared it to some more expensive Ibanezes and still like the Yamaha better. It's a great guitar for somebody to start with. You won't go broke paying for it, but it won't frustrate you with its crappiness like a lot of cheap instruments will. Pair it with a Roland Microcube and you have a good affordable bedroom guitar setup.

Though the "features" work alright, there's nothing special. typical tremolo bridge. When I first saw this guitar, I thought, illegitimate love child of a strat. Feels alright to play, I like the neck, has a nice fender feel. The action was set a bit low for my liking from the factory, intonation has always been a hit or miss. I only wish the body where made of a more solid wood. I recently replaced the pick ups with two infinity 3 single coils, and an infinity 4 humbucker taken from an Ibanez RG series, it sounds like a whole new guitar, with gut wrenching lows, and eardrum tearing harmonics. As far as hardware goes, I'd recommend swapping the pick-ups, and the tuners. The stock tuners are a bit to touchy for how stiff they are. I wouldn't personally throw more than $175 into it on top of the cost. For starters, not a bad beginners tool, and for the experienced player, not a bad toy to have fun fixing up into a thrasher guitar.
Sound
:6
Stock, sounds like you overpaid for the quality when you run it through mid to high quality equipment. through the cheap stuff somehow it works, maybe that went into the design.
After slight mods, Sounds quite interesting, between this and my Schecter Omen 6, I can get just about any sound desired. With mods this guitar can be a good variation to any sound.

I'm sure you could play it live, I don't know that I'd ever only take one guitar to a gig ever, but if i were to ever do so, I'm sure it would not be this one. on the durability note, mine survived a year of abuse and neglect before falling into my arms, and only suffered a few chips in the paint around the edges, and a few surface scratches. not to bad for putting up with all of that neglect.

* Date unknown Indonesian Yamaha EG 112C Strat copy, serial #Y0310
* 22 Fret generic rosewood fingerboard w/ mother of toilet seat inlays and white plastic side markers
* Solid flat top with elbow cutaway and convenient tummy cut
* 1 Volume control and 1 Tone control with Fender-style bell knobs
* 5-Way standard Strat switching (1: Bridge, 2: Bridge and middle, 3: Middle, 4: Middle and Neck, 5: Neck)
* Passive non-canceling Hum-Single-Single pickup configuration
* Body made of unknown wood, most likely plywood, alder, or basswood (in other words, cheap wood)
* Neck made of lower-grade maple. My personal headstock has interesting grain, however.
* Solid black finish with moderatley thick gloss for body, satin finish on neck
* Vintage-style silver vibrato bridge, substracts from the sustain
* Medium-Low fret wire
* Medium string spacing
* Single-action truss rod
* Non-locking generic chrome Fender Schaller-copy tuners
* White pickguard with 12 chrome screws
* I received mine with the gig bag, cable, and hex wrenches for the saddles and truss
My rating: 7 (relative to guitars of a comparable price). This is your standard Strat fare sans the extra tone control, which as a tone freak, I miss dearly. I do normally prefer S-S-S pickup configurations because of the simplicity of obtaining new pickups and performing wiring modifications (the humbucker is a dual-wire instead of a quad, my absolute favorite for modification). This is a beginner's instrument, but I personally believe it is superior in construction to many other brands with "bigger" reputations (Squire and Ibanez).
Sound
:8
This instrument suits me just fine. I received it as a gift from my uncle who had bought the beginner's pack and upgraded to a Rickenbacker 650S with Ed Roman's Van Campen modification, as per my recommendation. I use it when I just need a guitar to throw in the back seat and play somewhere. It's range of tones suits my early rock n' roll style of playing quite well for the price and quality. The simplicity of the guitar does help, sometimes: The lack of a second tone control makes adjusting from ryhtym at the fourth position at tone level 6/7 to lead in the first position at 1/2 a snap.
Unfortunately, the wood in this guitar takes away from the resonant qualities that I would like it to have. The wood under the hood is pretty blah. IT has a warm sound, but not in a good way. The guitar can be pretty bright, but it can't achieve normal Strat brightness, partly because of the body and partly because of the humbucker. Overall, however, the sound isn't that bad. I find myself playing at switch positions 3 and 4 most of the time, and this guitar produces a mild ryhtym sound with ease.
I hardly frequent position two, as I find it very horizontal and lacking. Then agian, I find myself saying that about the Jeff Beck Strat, which is one of the better Fender models. I assume it's just a personal thing. More often, I find myself at the neck-only position, trying to eek out and R&B sound. Sometimes I can hit it, depending upon the amplifier I'm using (Marshall: No, Fender: Yes). After the tone is down past 4, the neck just gets too muddy for my personal taste. Surprisingly, a better jazzy tone is achieved by using position 4 with tone around 2 1/2.
My rating: 8 (relative to guitars of a comparable price) It certainly has it's down sides: the mediocre and uninspiring position 2 and the "blah" muddy tone of the neck pickup with low tone settings, but overall this guitar churns out a decent ryhtym and hot lead which I would not be ashamed to use in public. I realize I'm not covering heavy styles much, but that's because frankly, it all sounds the same when the gain is up at "metal" levels.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:6
Wow. Don't get me started on the factory set-up of this thing. My compliments to the chefs at Yamaha for coming up with a decent beginner guitar, but the quality control people there are either robots or asleep. The action wasn't awful, but the intonation was. All 6 saddles were essentially in the same place on the bridge. I end up moving them so drastically to fix the B's flatness at the 12th that the saddle came off of it's support screw! Anyway, I fixed that with a longer screw I had in my shop (thanks, Gretsch). The saddles were lowered, and I now have a surprisingly low action with nearly no buzz. I had to file down the 8th, 10th, and 13th frets ever so slightly to avoid audible amplified buzz, though it still exists in part when the guitar is played without an amp.
The pickups, from what I can tell, are nearly set in stone. I tried to raise the middle G pole up about a tenth of an inch to accomodate my sound preference, but it would barely budge, so I decided to let sleeping dogs lie and converted to a wound G string instead.
The routing and fret jos are surprisingly good for a factory guitar, and there don't appear to be any major issues with the woodworking. Then again, what are machines for? The low E saddle seems to have lost a bit of it's outer plating and is oxidating slowly, but I don't particularly care. This guitar is not in existence for it's "tremendous looks", it is around for playing. The B tuner is a little shaky and loose, but I don't care enough to take time to spruce it up.
My rating: 6 (relative to guitars of a comparable price) This is where I'm the least impressed. The factory "set-up" was awful, and the action was nothing special. However, this was still better than 1/4 of what I've seen. Also, the fret jobs were quite good, and the finish was applied generouly and evenly. The neck satin is suprisingly quick when oiled (or sweat-lubricated), and the reach allows easy playing up until about the 18th-19th fret.
Reliability/Durability

Can it be played live: Yes. I've played this guitar live in an impromptu recording session as well as on-stage two or three times. It has surprised me with it's versatility (for being a beginner Strat knock-off). It has taken abuse, from being thrown into a car in a thin gig bag to being left out on the couch for months on end, to being dropped more than once with almost no chipping or wear of any sort. I mean, this thing can withstand a session of "Baba O'Reilly" windmills and then some. The hardware will probably last for at least 15 more years, give or take. I'm not terribly worried about it. The bridge can be replaced with an economy bridge, the tuners can be replaced with economy tuners or Gotohs, etc. The finish on the back is onloy showing a little scratching. The finish has surpised me with the beating it has taken over the past year. The strap buttons are in there for good. I check them bimonthly, as everyone should theirs for tightness and angle. As a whole, I can depend on this thing for a jam or practice under any conditions. Except for thunderstorms. For those, I prefer indoors. I wouldn't use this guitar at a gig with no backup, but then again I never gig without backups, so don't count that. It's a personal vice of mine to carry a lot of stuff around. All of that is why I give this thing an 8.

I've been playing guitar for eleven years, and I have a luthiery background. My other gear (since the format suggests listing it):
Blues: Vintage Gibson 1965 ES-335 or my own personal ES-335 copy with Varitone and a number of mods I've performed as my playing has evolved, Fender '59 Bassman Reissue, my own design head "The Blue Face", and "The Blue Box" matching 2x10 cabs.
Rock n' Roll: Vintage Telecaster copy, 1969 Telecaster Thinline reissue, or Gretsch 6120 with a Vox AC-30 or Fender Duo.
Jazz: Gibson Super 400 or Gibson Wes Montgomery L-5 and my own Jazz Clean amp.
If this guitar were stolen, I'd first start scouring hte pawn shops for it. If I could not get the original back, I would not purchase another one of these. As I mentioned before, I could have a superior version of the same instrument with tonewoods done within two weeks. For a beginner who couldn't afford something more and had a jam session with some pals the next day, I'd suggest purchasing this guitar again or loaning until something better could be found.
My likes: Positions 3 and 4 produce Fender-recognized sounds and deliver a punchy sound free of excess twang or warmth. One of the best beginner guitars out there by far, especially for 200, whereas the Squier kit is significantly more and of lower quality. I like the lack of a second tone control, but it makes wiring modifications more tricky. However if you're a beginner, this is once again not an issue. I also like the durability of the instrument and the low cost of upgrading it. If you want to buy a guitar to upgrade in the future, this one is it. The pickups, tuners, and bridge are all simple-to-upgrade because they are designed after Fender parts and are thus easy to replace.
Contact me for more info, though I think this is by far the most in-depth review of the instrument so far.
My dislikes: Bad wood, bad position 2 tone. Poorly set-up initially, and most beginner's won't bother to get a set-up. Instead, they'll just assume their guitar sucks and "upgrade" to a $500 Ibanez. But getting into that is a whole process of allegorical analysis I'd like to avoid. The guitar's neck has a dead-ish spot around hte 20th fret, but if you don't plan on playing up there a whole lot, then it won't be a problem. Also, it is likely that only my guitar does this.

made in 99, i stripped this guitar of the wax pot crap that made sound, i didnt go overboard, i found a wired pickguard on ebay, SSH
configuration with the desired 3rd pot-why yamaha stinks, strat pickguards dont fit on this guitar, i modified my pickguard and transfered the electronics. this guitar is now a fenderish style guitar with the MightyBucker and two ceramic single coils that came with it. im guessing the humbucker is a bit bright because its hard to get lows out of it, but the single coils are hot with a very clean sound that can get damn low at times, pots and selector are nice(500 Ohms) I recomend these for anyone looking to make a cheap upgrade on a cheap guitar

Made in Indionesia, 22 fret standard rosewood fingerboard set on a maple neck. Volume and Tone controlls w/ a 5 way selector switch. has a Humbucker/single/single configuration, passive electronics.
Body has a buetiful deep piano black finish with the traditional white pickguard. The body is a traditional strat design w/ the input mounted on the bottem instead of the face for a stream line look.
a functional temelo is used, its not bad with traditional chrome tuners that seem to hold pretty decent w/ a plastic nut. This unit was purchased 1 and a half years ago at BestBuy for $199.99 plus MA state tax and came w/ a cheap starter amp-GA10 7 watt w/ a distortion button and bass and treble controls, houses a 5 inch 4ohm 8 watt boombox speaker. A gig bag, 3 picks, a string winder, an electric tuning machine and a guitar book, fully strung w/ spares

Without the cheap amplifier, the guitar doesnt sound that bad, warm more tha bright. A good starter unit, or if you find seperate at a guitar shop or used private sale, a good project guitar. My dislikes are the 1 tone pod. The guitar is really light and is good for long periods of play, Came set up the right way and has never been a problem. I purchased a Fender Pro Junior amp to use and have a PODxt
amp modler, this guitar through this amp sounds unbelievable compared to the GA10. I am currently getting ready to buy a set of pickups a guard and 3 pots to replace the old ones, I am also looking for a metal input piece to replace the plastic piece. As I read the guitar does dent easy, mines in great shape still and i use it live at shows, it gives a tone i cant describe, great for bluesy riffs. The action is very nice about a quarter of an inch off the frets wich meant i played it directly from the box, I dumped the strings and picked up fender bullets for a fuller sound. I have read that people said it sounded twangy, it doesnt, thats just you not playing it right, the amp giving doesnt help any, I WILL BE CRITICLE OF SOME PEOPLES PLAYING, i cant tell you how many times someone returns a guitar to my local music shop just because they say it sounds like crap, when we pick it up and play the same instrument before we take it, they get pissed off because I can make it rock
don't be one of these people, if you buy a guitar, learn it or shutup

I play mostly rock and blues and this guitar does pretty well at both. When compared to Squires or Fenders this sounds just as good or better than both. I think this would be an excellent starter for anyone interested in getting their first electric guitar. I have done a few gigs with this one and it holds up pretty well! I play mostly rock/metal, but I do a little finger picking too. This guitar is ok for both. I bought it as a beater guitar, to keep in the truck, when I'm out on the road... (can't have my jackson, bouncing around inside a truck all day) It's pretty well constructed. I was suprised. The pickups aren't that good, but the humbucker is "good enough". I can get some good pings and squeals out of it when I use a little distortion and compression. Over all, I like this guitar. It's worth the $109 I paid for it.

This guitar was playable right out of the box. I checked the intonation, and it was right on. The strings are a slightly higher than 1/8th inch at the 22nd fret. No buzzing. I like it better than the squiers that I've tried.

If this yamaha was ever lost or stolen, I'd buy it again for the same price.... maybe a few bucks more. I compared it to other cheap guitars that I've played. I think it beats the heck out of the squiers. It won't hold up against an american made fender though.
I bought this guitar as a beater, so I won't have to expose my other electric guitar to life in a semi truck. I expected it to be a piece of junk, but I was pleasantly suprised.

EG-112C
Black Finish, black everything
It is bery boring looking
Gig Bag, strap, cable, amp, whammy bar, and tools
Sound

My style is metal to Beatles, Mudvayne to RHCP, this guitar can't hold up that well. The sound is twangy, i got new strings and it still sounds twangy. EXPENSIVE STRINGS. Don't waste your money.

The guitar was constructed fairly well. I will give them that, but it is a very boring guitar. I am a fan of the Les Paul Body, so the strat-style isn't me. The paint is reliable. The pickups are terribly adjusted, they fall out of place alot.

IVE ONLY HAD THE GUITAR FOR 6 MONTHS, AND THE PICKUPS ARE ALREADY WORN OUT. I WOULD NEVER USE THIS GUITAR IN A GIG, WITH OUR WITHOUT A BACKUP, THIS GUITAR IS A BACKUP TO A BACKUP TO A BACKUP. I CAN'T DEPEND ON IT.

I believe 2001 was its manufacture date, unsure, dont care
it has a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard with a maple neck, very strat like feel. black body that contours not quiet a fat strat, but much alike in any way you think. it has two single coils that are in my opinion underdriven, and a cheap humbucker in the bridge, all in all, a good sounding guitar. it has 1 tone and 1 volume control wich are kinda cheap, along w/ the 5 way selector switch, i have had it 1 year w/ no problems, so they work.
I bought this guitar new and it came w/ the extras , GA-10 amp, a little practice amp that rocks, a string winder, a quick tune automatic guitar/bass tuner, 3 pics, a gig bag, an extra pair of strings to throw away, a whammy bar, hex wrench, and a cheasy guitar book for anyone who knows they will quit playing when they read it
Sound
:9
I like jazz, blues and rock, it works great with all, my dislikes are the same w/ any guitar under 3 hundred dollars, strap, strap pegs, tuneres, humbuckers, nut....but it is my practice guitar, and that is too much money to spend on practice away from practice, so get strap locks, and a better strap. ALSO, the strings as i said above are their to throw out, this guitar sounded twangy when i bought it, not much of a strat sound from a strat style, this will cost 6 dollars to fix. Go get yourself some fender bullets and call it a day
Action, Fit, & Finish

Great action, is about 1/8 inch away from fretsat the bridge, and even less at the stock, but set it up to the way you like it, Definatly worth the 200 youll spend on it, looks like a million dollars, enjoy it, file the nut down on the high e string, when you play hard, it slips off the nut, easy enough to fix. It is most likly made out of basswood or something of thsat nature

i have used it live, no one said it sounds shitty so i use it for my back up when my fender isnt available to back my gibson, i used it for a whole show and no problems, so it is worthy of your time, just because a 15 year old killed his guitar, doesnt mean you will, buy this

well, unless its waterlogged or missing wires go to your local shop for any problems, they will fix it faster than yamaha

i have been playing 9 years and are going to to play a lot in the future, it wont replase my 335 or my telecaster, but it will be used.
if it were stoling i would cut the culprets balls off and feed them to rosie odonnell, just because of the theif being selfish, and rosie wants more balls than sylvester stalone

Made in 1999 in Indeonesia
22 Frets
Solid Laminated Top
1 Vol, 1 Tone(added a second Tone nob)and a 5 way selector switch
Chrome hardware, plastic nut, well equiped even before the teardown
s/s/h desighn, alright sounding out of the box, not loud enough without the humbucker, I recomend an upgrade
YAMAHA EG 112C
Pickups are a foodstamp brand
active although it was passive
Bass wood body, be careful not to drop it, smash it, so on so on, stays sounding right if you do, but can as ive read dent easy
neck- standard 60's style fender reproduced shape, maple w/ rosewood finger bourd
bridge is a string through body, looks great and is the only peice of chrome i didnt replace
tuners, non locking p.o.s., but for a combo for 179.99, cant go wrong, get new ones!!!!
narrow neck, not bad plays very good
This came with a gig bag, A ballsy 7 watt practice amp, The Yamaha GA-10, sounds great!!!3 picks, a guitar learning book, an electric tuner (actually works) and a nifty string winder that broke upon the first string up, OOPS!!!Not quite a fat strat, The look says it, but this model is much more refined, more of a pretty guitar if you asked me

heres the problems, tuning pegs, nut, and humbucker, these are a easy fix, as with most guitars under five hundred, i suggest if your gonna replace the humbucker, you might as well replace the other pickups, as i did! The guitar itself has a great tone, so dont go crazy and break the bank for the most expensive, go with what you know, or prefer. I just use a WHA pedal and it sounds kick ass
before i changed the pickups it wasnt sheilded all that great, I found this is the reason for the hum next to other electrionics, i recomend shielding your guitar upon your first upgrade, I use this peice w/ a Fender half Stack, and the GA-10 amp it came with...
Sound is kick ass
Action, Fit, & Finish

Finish of this guitar is a deep black like car finish, if you have seen a pair of Yamaha towers, you will recognise this finish. A white pick gaurd w/ a maple neck and rosewood finger board, no guitar under $1000.00 that i have owned has looked this good. fit is decent, the replacement of standard fat strat hook-up on the front was moved to the side, the fingering needed little tweaking as with all my guitars, very good feel, what can i say, i compare the action to an actual strat, Yamaha, well done

Define live playing, if it withstands practice, it will withstand live playing. I play jazzy riffs and this guitar actually gives me a better tone than ANY Fender, so when I play live, this is part of my arsenol...And although I HAVENT HAD TO BACK IT UP YET,IN THE 8 MONTHS, IF YOU PLAY A SHOW WITHOUT A BACK UP, YOU DESERVE TO BE SHOT!!!!!

For the price you will do better than that shitty squire or peavy , wich are more expensive and don't come with an amp to practice with
for price, action, fit and reliability, i will give it a ten, as long as you are not triing to kill it to get that Bigger more expensive guitar, this guitar will respect you
