I truefully cannot tell you when and where it was made because I am simply too lazy to look it up or read the other reviews but I know its pretty old. It out lives me (I'm 14) so I consider it pretty old. My guitar teacher tells me it a solid top. I don't know about the sides and the bottom. It has a wide neck and a pretty high action (but that might not apply to others because mine is slightly warped due to my mothers ignorance :pp )

Sound : 10
I am a beginner at classical guitar and this guitar suits my playing very very well (other that the high action but that is pretty easy to deal with after using it a lot). Other guitarists I have shown this guitar to are surprised at how good to sounds. So I take that as a good sign(:

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The action is pretty high as I have said before but it is a minor problem (at least to me it is.) I am not that experienced but other than that its a very good guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I don't play in front of people much but I have played for friends and family and this guitar always pulls through(: I play this guitar all the time. Its my favorite of three (a squier strat electric guitar by Fender and a Gibson 1936 L7 arch top steel string Acoustic guitar.) It a reliable guitar and it has been for both my fathers playing and my own.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I've never had to deal with this kind of stuff.

Overall Rating : 10
I've only been playing for about 2 years. As I said before I own two other guitars a squier strat electric guitar by Fender and a Gibson 1936 L7 arch top steel string Acoustic guitar.) I didn't buy this guitar. It was passed down to me from my father (and if you are curious I also aquired my Gibson in the same manner from my Grandpa.) If it was ever stolen or lost I would hunt down and hurt the person who stole it to get it back or turn the world upside down until I found it (considering that this guitar has sentimental meaning to it.) So in other words yes I would want to buy it again. I love the sound of this guitar. If played correctly it sounds amazing. The only thing that I would change about it is the high action which does cause me some problems. I pretty much love this guitar and I would definately recommend it.

This guitar belongs to my girlfriend. She's had it since about '75/'76... She bought it used. Doesn't recall the amount she paid for it... The guitar has all the features mentioned in the reviews prior to this one, and all parts were in good condition, except for the tuners... I replaced them with a set of Grovers, and new strings... I have big hands, and am learning, so this guitar is fitting me just fine... The guitar lives in an old cardboard case, which I believe it's been in all it's life... For what it is, with it's age and such, this is a wonderful instrument...

Sound : 9
The sound on this guitar is really good... I have a friend who is a musician, and he was particularly surprised at the sound... As has been mentioned, and I'm no pro, fer sure, this guitar has a huge range of tones, if you play the strings anywhere from the end of the board, to the bridge... It all depends what you want it to sound like... The only gig I could give it is having the first 3 strings being nylon... If you want to play blues, and such, yer not going to be able to do it on this guitar...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The finish is great... There is some evidence of it being played a bit, which didn't happen in my girlfriend's hands, but I expect that out of a good guitar... If it didn't have it, I would think it wasn't worth playing... I did quite a bit of reading on setting the action, and has been mentioned, it was quite high... I removed the saddle out of the bridge, and sanded it down, to where when the saddle was replaced, the strings were just a tad off the bridge... The guitar was now easy to play, not requiring a lot of pressure, and there is no buzzing... I feel it is a ton better now... I gave it the 7 due to the original setup, which is still playable, so I'm told, but now, things are much better... These guitars can be improved with just a little tweaking...

Reliability/Durability : 10
My refit of this 30+ year old guitar did not cost that much... And I feel the guitar is very strong, as it has stood up to being moved all over the U.S., and having 3 children near it too...

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
This is a great guitar for someone like me, who has big fingers, and can manipulate them around the neck... It's 2 inches wide, at the nut, so one needs to be able to reach... As I mentioned about the strings, you can't really get into doing some bending, while you play, because the nylon strings just don't give out that sound... They stretch too much... But the guitar will stay in tune, once the strings are broken in... Overall, it is a wonderful instrument, and if you can get yer hands on one, I would buy it, just to have around... This one will end up on my boat...

Made in Japan G-50A Nippon GAKKI CO,LTD. 19 Fret's, solid top and back, fat neck. Don't know about the woods.

Sound : 9
Bought this gem at a garage sale for $5.00 bucks. At first a didn't like it. The neck is wide and the strings high. But occasionally I'd have a go of it just for the 'hell of it', well it grew on me. The tone is so warm and lush. Very mellow, light, depth in Bass, a very classic sound. This guitar has changed how I hear music. I think it's inspirational personally. Great to bash away on due to high action, and clean sounding but if you like to tinker with melody's excellent. This is a great instrument to write a verse or two on, or to create. I can imagine many professionals have used this in the studio, Yes I like this guitar!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
Well this is an old guitar, made in Japan by Yamaha. It must be an original before they started making them in other country's. The action as you may imagine being unadjustable is quite high. The neck is displaying a moderate bend under the strain of over 25 years, saying that, it's not excessive by any means. The fretboard is sound with frets that are raised to a high level over the fingerboard, they do not show any signs of wear, don't ask me how. The six is for the action only, its well built.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Well it must be good.

Customer Support : No Opinion
What.

Overall Rating : 9
Wow what can I add? Great classic guitar. No nonsense or excuses. It is what it is, to me anyhow, I love it.

I was given this guitar by a friend about 4 years ago and at first I really wasn't sure about it but I grew to love it.
Classical acoustic guitar made by Yamaha in the 80's I believe, I can't seem to find an exact date. It was made in Taiwan and it has 18 and a half frets, I say and a half because the 19th fret overlaps the sound hole.
Ceder top, rosewood fingerboard, really not sure what the rest of it is made out of but it's quite light. No truss rod in the neck which is kind of a bummer but since it was given to me for free I really can't complain.

Sound : 9
It sounds pretty good. With good strings on it this guitar really sings, it has a very sweet mellow sound which is great for playing folk/alternative music. I've recorded quite a few times with this guitar and I think that it sounds pretty darn good.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The setup on this guitar is pretty good considering it lived in a shed in the middle of a damp forest before it came in to my hands.
The action is a little high but it works great for open chords.
I've never had it setup and it has been through a lot. I'm sure that if I took the time to go and get it set up it would be great.
This is the guitar that I learned on and as long as you don't have small hands I think that it's a great beginner guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 9
See above.
This guitar lived in a damp shed before I got it and it's in really good shape still. Still stays in tune and it looks and plays great.

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing guitar for about 4 years now and this is the guitar I learned on, I wrote some of my first songs on it and I have grown to love it deeply, I would be very sad if I lost it.
I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a classical guitar for under a $100.
I play Rock/Folk/Alternative/Experimental and I also have a Yamaha FG-180-1 acoustic steel string guitar and I just got a Fender Stratocaster 1962 reissue made in Japan from around 1990.

I was 9 when I finally had enough money to buy my own guitar...I chose the Yamaha G50A. It was NZ$36 and I fell in love with it immediately(I couldn't afford the newer model, the CG, it was $48! I am now 40+ and still have this guitar. It's neck has stayed straight and true and the tuning pegs are fine. The only problem I had was that I was very fond of Levis and the metal rivet above the pocket has scored race tracks all over the back. However, the finish was tough enough not to cut through the varnish. Testament to its strength!

Sound : 8
I have always loved the mellow tones of this guitar. It isn't particularly boomy and is very suitable for either folk or classical styles.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
I have never adjusted the action so , consequently, you can still drive a truck through it! I am now curious to know what it would play like with this obvious amendment. As I have read from others, the neck is very wide and consequently tricky for the beginner or small handed person to master.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I never got a hard case with it so it lived in a bright orange vinyl soft case under my bed. The salesman told me it was important to store it flat so it wouldn't warp... he appeares to have been right.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never needed repairs although i think the frets could need renewing.

Overall Rating : 8
I've played since dad taught me the basics on a ukelele when i was 4 at home with a cold. I own a Tama steel string, a cort headless bass and i just scored a 1960 Hofner senator. If it was stolen I wouldn't replace it now because it would be like trying to relive your first kiss.

I bought my G-50A used in 1972 for about $80 and have been playing it steadily ever since. It has a few minor dings and scratches in it but nothing to change the sound. I was told when I bought it that it was only a year or two old, but Yamaha stopped making this model shortly afterwards and replaced it with one of their CG models.

The fingerboard is real rosewood, which is very rare these days and getting more scarce all the time. The neck, back and sides are mahogany and the top is cedar. My guitar is in original condition with the exception of the tuners which were replaced sometime in the late 1980's and with the addition of a strap button when I bought the guitar. This is a classical style guitar set up similarly, if not identical, to the Ramirez style. I seem to remember reading that Ramirez was hired by Yamaha to help design their guitars back then so I guess this is no surprise.

An interesting construction legend. When Yamaha made these guitars, they apparently hired young girls to wax the interior to help preserve the wood. In any case, one can still detect the wax on the interior of mine.

Sound : 9
I play Classical, Renaissance, Baroque, Medieval etc. on this guitar and it always seems to have a fairly full, rich tone. This is due in part to the beautiful cedar top and the very solid neck. Yamaha guitars with spruce tops provide a somewhat brighter tone but I prefer, (or have simply gotten used to) the full rich tones.

There is a tremendous tonal difference between notes played close to the bridge vs. notes played close to the fingerboard so it has a tremendous range of sounds.

Good strings are a must for this guitar to play at its best. NO LA Bella???s - D'Addarios seem to do very well. If you must have that La Bella sound try the D'Addario high tension - I use them for public performances as the higher tension helps to boost the volume and make the sound a tad brighter.

Newer, much more expensive guitars have better frets and fret placement, as well as a faster action, especially nearer the guitar body. For the money, however, this guitar does very well.

Newer, much more expensive guitars have better frets and fret placement, as well as a faster action, especially nearer the guitar body. For the money, however, this guitar does very well.

Factory set up was as good as it got when this guitar was made. Faster action, smoother frets, narrow necks, etc were reserved only for more expensive electrics back then, (consider the Rickenbacker 6 string). Comparing the guitar to newer, low to medium priced classical models, though, it stacks up very well and in my view, it beats most of them. The guitar was exceptionally well built considering its age. There's not a misaligned piece on it - inside or out. Even the inlaid rosette and purfling are exceptional. Yamaha was trying to enter the American market in a big way back in the 70's and made a special effort on all their instruments. As an example, check out a Yamaha Piano of the same period.

Like everyone else, at some point the tuning pegs had to be replaced, but that's not bad at all for a 34 plus year old guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have had my guitar for 34 years and have played it continuously all these years. With the exception of a few dings and the replacement of the tuning pegs, it looks and feels as good as new. In fact, the age of the wood and the constant playing have only served to make the sound sweeter and mellower. Like a fine old violin, it has improved with age.

This is a very dependable guitar, perfect for beginners to experts. My G-50A has and continues to withstand live playing and, no doubt, will continue to do so for at least another 30 years.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I bought the guitar used, so there was no warranty. The only repair I have ever needed was the tuning peg replacement which I did myself. I've never had occasion to deal with Yamaha.

Overall Rating : 10
I first started playing guitar in 1961 when I was 10 years old. It was a borrowed Martin acoustic from my friend Bobby Williams, (Bobby's uncle was Andy Williams). My first electric was a Zim-Gar Solid Body which I later traded for a Zim-Gar electric arch top. I traded the Zim-Gar to Billy Schultz, (since then, he became President of Fender, but who knows where he is now). I ended up with a Sears Kent - a Strat knock off. AT LAST, I bought some good equipment which I still have - a Rickenbacker a Seagull 12 string, a Fender acoustic 6, a made in Mexico throw-away, and an 8 course renaissance lute made by Richard Fletcher.

When I want to play, I have to admit I always reach for the Yamaha first. I couldn't live without it.

This guitar plays well and has great full tone, I play it often working out old songs

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I got this guitat at a yard sale, it has only one string and the tuners were broken. the bridge was a piece of lego and it was covered in dirt and grease. However, when I played a note on that one string I knew that this was a very special guitar. I bought it at once for 20 USD. once I cleaned it up I noticed that there was slight seperation from the neck and one or two minor dings. I took it to my local guitar shop and they repaired the neck and relpaced the tuning hardware and strings and bridge. it now sounds great and looks great as well. there is a small (real) dasy flower glued to the guitar with I Love You on it. I dont know if this came with the guitar or not.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar is sturdy and has seen lots of action. However, it looks like with proper care it will last and play for a long time. I would depend on it as my main guitat on a gig no problem.

This was my first Classical that I had any real playing time with and i think that the aged woods have a wonderful tone that you dont see in new guitars. I dont think that I would be able to replace this guitar if i lost it.
I have been playing no and off all my life lets say over 30 years
I currently have a Les Paul Studio plus, Ovation Tangent, Ibanez Artcore, and a Rogue Violin Bass.

I am looking for a Fender Fat Srtat now.

This guitar was made in Taiwan. I bought it at a pawn shop for $50.
The tuning geer needed to be replaced so I did that and put on new strings.

The sound is rich and full. There is no buzz on the frets

Well yes also it's my first guitar. It was made in Taiwan. It has regular features making it a classic guitar. Even more classy because its not even on the market. The guitar itself is very good. The only feature I really dont like is the frets. Let's say that you have to key a not above 13-19, it would be harder because you have to take your thumb off the neck and place it over the top. To put it in easier terms frets 13-19 are over the guitar body. I dont know if it is suppose to be like that becuase its a classical guitar or what. The neck is pretty huge in width. Its either good for people who usually overlap their notes or its bad because a lot of times you'll find your fingers getting stuck. It comes with a case thats all I know.

Sound : 9
It suits my style of music. My style of music varies though. It's good for classic spanish songs, oldie acoustic songs (Led Zep, Dust in the wind), I use it to make up acoustic songs, Finger picking (i guess) It has a good tone and quality to the sound. Sometimes if you dont play the note right since the strings are so much off the neck it can sound screechy but that helps you in correcting your notes.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
If this guitar isn't even in market and it sounds and feels and is still holding up (mine is in good shape) then it was set-up good. The guitar has a little cracks on the wood of the body, but its also been passed down so I can't be the judge.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Yes, the durability of this guitar is insane. With proper treatment it can withstand a long time. I can depend on it. It is very good and very well made.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Eh! The only thing that I've done was add a tuner knob!

Overall Rating : 9
If your a begginer find any place to buy this guitar because I believe its the best one to start on. This guitar has nice smooth sound to it and it is very much a classic I've only played guitar in one year and I already learned so many songs on it and how to play on it. If it were stolen I would find the guy and beat him down. Compared to other acoustic guitars this would be pretty high in the rankings!
